Had some really amazing oysters for Christmas, but didn't feel like driving 45 minutes to Wilmington for them. Who would have guessed an oyster shack would be placed conveniently near my mother's house? ... Okay, anyone would have considering we live right on the coast. I'm slow, okay? Looked up Grant's on Yelp and headed straight there. Upon arrival, I was greeted by a very enthusiastic dog... and then another dog! And then an adorable sleeping cat! Apparently there was another cat lurking about, but I never met them. The gentleman working there welcomed me and invited me inside. I asked how buying oysters goes because I had never purchased them fresh before. He directed me to the gentleman running the place who told me the current price for a bushel was $70, half for $40. I gave the woman at the desk my credit card while I chatted them up. They've been in busy since 1939, selling crabs, oysters, grouper, snapper, you name it. People tend to wipe them out daily, so it's best to show up as early as possible. I thanked everyone (including the animals) and drove home with my half-bushel in hand. Thank goodness I had a random cardboard box in my car or else I would have gotten ocean water all in the trunk. And, of course, the oysters were sublime. Salty with a smooth ocean aftertaste. Great raw and steamed, but even better with cocktail sauce and lemon juice on top. Yes, I ate half a bushel by myself in three days. It took a day to clean them all! Don't judge me. Definitely recommend Grant's. Was greeted by the best receiving staff, Kelly, Little Bit, and Lady Bug (cats). The shrimp I got were fresh and great. While it might look well loved from the outside, the fish is fresh, the walk-in cooler billows frosty air when opened, and the owners are nice. Establish on 1939. read more

We found Grant's by checking Yelp and I'm so glad we did. It's only about a mile off highway 210 and well worth a detour. We bought whole flounder, which was very fresh. The staff cut it into beautiful, large filets which we took home and fried. It was absolutely delicious! The woman helping us was super friendly and knowledge. She even showed us the alligator hanging out in the creek outside and gave us cooking suggestions. Grant's has been located here since 1938. I loved walking the property and marveled at its authenticity and simple beauty; aging boats gently rocking atop the brackish water of their creek side home, the craggy mountain of sun bleached oyster shells beside the fish house and the wiry crab pots, stacked and ready for yet another tour of duty. Places like this don't exist much anymore in Eastern North Carolina, or anywhere else for that matter. Go to Grant's, smell the briny air, buy some seafood, then go home to make your own magical memories of life in Coastal Carolina. read more

I've been to several seafood markets around the Topsail area and nothing beat the prices here. Whenever I'm in town, I always stop by to get soft shell crabs which he sell for $4/piece jumbo size! I guaranteed you will not find that elsewhere. He have bags of different clams ranging from $25-$35. Each bag has about 100 count. The place doesn't look much of anything, but it's legit. Amazing, I called in after they closed ( didn't know lol) and they said hey come on in! So me and my family went there and had the best scallops, crab and shrimp! Idk if I could rate this place any higher or I would. I absolutely recommend to stop here for fresh seafood. And they even have spices! Best place to buy seafood on the island! They usually have a great selection of clams, oysters, fish etc. if you're looking for something in particular it's best to call ahead but they're very accomodating. read more

Great fresh seafood at good prices with nice people. What more do you want? We got large shrimp at a price far lower than the local grocery stores, clams and a softshell crab, and it all tasted great. read more

I love this place!! Since moving to Sneads Ferry I was excited to be able to try all the fresh and local seafood instead of whatever was available at the grocery store. I was hoping to find a sustainable and local option fresh off the boat, and Grant's definitely delivers. The place does look a little dumpy, but its a fish warehouse not a restaurant so what do you really expect. The fish is being stored and processed safely. I love chatting with whoever is working while they skin my dinner and bag it up right in front of me. Bonus for the happy cat I walked in on enjoying a fish head one afternoon. read more

I love this place! This is a must go to if you are cooking your own seafood. We get shrimp and scallops here each time we come to Topsail. Family run business, they are super friendly and knowledgeable, and have a wide variety of different types of fish you can't get other places. Prices are reasonable. read more

Excellent quality of sea food I've had everything from the clams to oysters to shrimp and crab and they're all very good quality with the best price! Don't let the looks of the place fool you they have the same fisherman deliver the catch of all the other places. I've even seen other seafood vendors pull up and buy from them! read more

Wonderful fresh seafood. We always purchase crab meat, shrimp and clams when we're in town.

My daughter bought some shrimp there, and when she brought them to me, I was amazed that someone actually sold her those shrimp. They were of such inferior quality. The smell indicated they were not fresh at all. We took them back. They were not very nice at all. Earlier in the week I had bought clams and crabmeat. I was satisfied with that purchase; however, I will not be returning because of the attitude of the staff when returning the shrimp. There are other places to purchase seafood in the area. read more

Went twice during our week to North Topsail Beach to cook dinners at condo. The first visit we purchased shrimp for scampi and boil & eat as well as sea scallops which were extremely fresh and tasted wonderful. We went back a second time and bought clams that had just come off the boat and were being cleaned in back. We were able to go in back to pick size we wanted. We got steamers which tasted great. We also purchased live soft shell crabs. They even charged us a $1.00 less apiece than listed price because they were a little small . That is customer service. Also wife liked scallops so well that we bought more scallops as well. We will definitely go back the next time we visit the beach. read more

I'm from Ohio, and was at Topsail Island last week. My friend and I stumbled on this place seeking seafood, upon the recommendation of an employee at Food Lion. The lady who was there all three times that I was there was very accomodating! The seafood was incredible! 100 little neck clams (caught the same day) were $25.00! Huge shrimp $8.95 per pound (you have to peel and devein them, but well worth it for fresh!) I also bought flounder and she cleaned them on the spot. Lastly, I got a pound of massive scallops (8 to the pound). They were $14.95, but best I ever ate! This is a no frills place, so don't expect cases of fish or shellfish. But I HIGHLY recommend visiting if you are staying in Topsail or Surfside!! Enjoy!! read more
