This place is beyond words. Maybe I'm partial to it because I live a block away. Maybe I'm partial to it because I love dark beer and great people. Had two glasses of wine and an olive and nut plate. Was all okay, not really memorable, but I'd try it again. The sandwiches I saw on other tables looked yummy, and I'd like to try them. My main problem with this place is service. I sat in the bar area, and asked the bar tender if I should order through him or a server. I was told the server so I sat down, no menu. About 10m later a server showed up and dropped a menu in front of me and walked away. No explanations, no greeting. I picked out what I wanted on the menu and then waited. And waited. And waited. I literally sat, for 20m before the server came by to take my order. Even then no apology no conversation just "What do you want?" I'd try the place again, maybe the server was having a bad day. The prices are high and the hours are limited. I was so excited to have a coffee shop and restaurant within walking distance of home. The biggest issue is that it's never open when I want to go. 6:30 on Sunday for dinner? CLOSED. 10:30 a.m. for coffee on a Saturday morning? CLOSED. This place feels like a lovely European cafe set in the middle of a wine shop/grocery store. Excellent selection of beers and wines, and all of the food was terrific. The staff has very good and enthusiastic recommendations. We had a crostini, cheese plate and two soups, all of which was delicious. Stopped in on Christmas Eve afternoon. Excellent service. Best salad in this decade and the tiny anchovy tomato toasts are still dancing in our heads. A hidden jewel of a place. I want to like this place. We were thrilled when it came to the neighborhood a few years back - we were big fans of the Old Town location and there's nothing like it in Rosemont. It looks nice but years after they set up shop, I still don't know what this place is. Coffee shop? The only day they are open early enough for AM coffee is Saturday. There are precious few places to sit inside - nowhere to plug in a laptop - and the staff has been reluctant about customers sitting outside at a table with just coffee (even if all the seats are empty). There are no espresso-based drinks and regular coffee is $4+. (Compare with Swings, with an array of fancy pour over and chemex coffees, plus $2 drip, espresso, and a welcoming environment to sit and read the paper.) Retail spot? They have a good selection of beer and wine, but the beer at least seems to run about 20% more expensive than other local boutique-sized sellers. Trying to find a six pack for less than $16 is a challenge. (Compare with Cheesetique, where you can mix and match any six pack for $12). On the food side, they may or may not have fresh bread at any given time, so it's hard to plan on picking up any staples. Dining? This would appear to be the relative strength of this location. Dinner offerings are compelling, but on one occasion at least, we couldn't seem to wrap up quick enough for the staff. (Despite having a good sized group imbibing not-modestly-priced wine). Beyond convenience for those in Rosemont, it's hard to see what G&B brings to the table (literally and in terms of service) that a dozen places nearby aren't delivering in more consistent fashion. read more

They took a ratty old place and made it awesome! Love the interior, the selection of wines, beer, and coffees. I got the dark roast of whatever they had on and it was divine -- they really know how to brew a great cup of coffee. Service was nice and friendly as well. Trifecta at Grape and Bean Rosemont last night - great wine, great food and great service. Can't be beat for a neighborhood escape!

3.5 stars and only this much because the staff was so friendly. They let me sample beers and champagne as I was trying to make a selection which, in my book, earned plus points. I ended up getting the peeper ale beer and it was very tasty. However, I didn't think a pint was worth $12. If I was going to pay that much for a glass of draft beer, the decor and ambiance better be that worth it. The interior was just so-so and the outdoor seating area looked very tired. I suggest the owner spend some money they've already overcharged the customers on upgrading their patio furniture to justify the price. Or, simply lower the prices. Until then, I'll be visiting plenty of other wine/coffee/tea shops in the area. read more

Lunch was fine but it was a lot of money to spend for a bratwurst and a really long wait for everything. There were just 2 or 3 other tables of 2-4 people eating lunch, but we only saw our server 5 times in 2 hours before we paid the bill, which we had asked for on the fourth sighting to no avail. I thought $15 for a bratwurst and potato salad was a bit pricey (according to the menu), figured it was a Del Ray thing; when the check came it was actually $18, but I was already running late enough and didn't want to raise a fuss in front of my pleasant company (so I'm raising it here). The brat itself was pretty overcooked and shriveled, but at least the oversize baguette it came on was filling. read more

A very nice place. We were looking for a wine bar and the bartender was so nice. I forgot his name. He said he was from Hawaii? Anyway, I wanted something like a dessert wine since we already had dinner and he gave me such a good recommendation. Then he asked us what we were doing in town and gave us some wonderful suggestions. We took him up on one of his many suggestions and had a pretty good time. Wine selection and coffee selection is wonderful. Loved it. We wanted to go back, but didn't have time before we had to return to L.A. Next time definitely! read more

I really like grape and bean, I really do...but the hours! Trying to remember which location (they're both old town-ish) which location is open which days and what days are restaurant days and what days are just store days, and oh my! that's too much! I wish it was more simpler, for instance we know for sure in Old Town, they'll be open for brunch...however, I would prefer to have my cheese and wine without so much of a crowd. read more

We love having grape and bean in the neighborhood. The staff have always steered us in the right direction in selecting wine and are very knowledgeable. Our whole family is a little addicted to the pimento cheese and the ice cream, and we also enjoy the coffee. Came in and they refused to serve any wine, beer, or food. Only tea and coffee (which was ridiculously overpriced for its quality). Said they weren't allowed by state law as their manager was on break but a simple google search shower otherwise. This especially was ironic as they were trying to pawn off some discounted, closed wines in the meantime. read more

The staff was so RUDE! The woman had no idea what she was talking about while serving wine. As soon as we walked in they rolled their eyes. We were offered the opportunity to wait for table. Unfortunately, parties that walked in after us were seated instead of us. We we're seated right in front of the exits and when I asked why we couldn't sit at a table we were told there was too many of us and it was a fire hazard. While the whole time we were blocking the exit because the place is so small. After waiting for an hour and a half without being seated, we decided to leave. I thought this would definitely be a hit after reading the reviews on Yelp but I was very disappointed. read more

So, we haven't stayed here for a drink but it's definitely something we plan to do after the great experiences we've had buying nice wine and beer here. In fact, our most recent visit here was to pick up some very hard to find Hardywood Sidamos. My husband called over to see if it was worth the trip and it sure was. Not only did they have it but they also offered to hold several bottles for us until I could get over there to pick it up. They were so friendly and we'll continue to go there for not only our purchases but also for a nice place to have a drink. It looks like a welcoming and cozy place to spend a nice night. read more

As recent Old Town to Rosemont transplants, we couldn't be happier to have a Grape & Bean in our new hood! This was our go-to place during the winter months right after we moved - grabbing a quick pesto for dinner, that necessary jug of milk, or stopping in for charcuterie and draft beers after a long day of unpacking. Ben and Stephanie immediately started to know our names, further solidifying our loyalty to this corner charmer. Since then I've often run in for a quick 6 of wine for impromptu dinner parties, and always been given a great selection that was personally picked for me. We moved to the neighborhood last year and ate here twice last summer. I enjoyed it more than my SO and the 2nd time we had a really negative service experience so it took almost a year to convince my SO to try it again. We walked down with the dog and were thrilled that there was outside seating on a Friday night at 8pm. Actually, there were several seats available which kind of surprised me. We sat down and within a few minutes a young man brought us menus and water. And then for 15 minutes... nothing... crickets... nada. There was a woman who seemed to work there who was not serving but chatting with some customers at a front table, but there wasn't sight nor sound of anyone even seeming to care to take our order. So one star (when it really should be zero - like the service we received) and I'll never be able to convince the SO to give it another try. I don't know if that's their business model because it does seem like a habit with them. read more
