Jasmine is the sweetest most efficient server. She made our visit so special. The seafood gumbo - Fantastic. The roux was perfect. It wasn't too dark or too thick. It was just right. The fried green tomatoes were beautifully burdened by crab meat and remoulade. The bread pudding was spectacular - just sumptuous. The next time I'm in Donaldsonville, I will make sure to drop by. Bonus: Bo and Grace's shop was outside (Sinners).

We were in the area for lunch and decided to checkout Grapevine. On a Wednesday the were busy and the crowd was definitely local. The service is fantastic. All of the staff members are friendly, seem to know their customers and are helpful to each other. We're sending a special shout out to our server Jasmine for an excellent experience. We ordered fried green tomatoes topped with crab, crab cakes, a cup of Hen and Andouille Gumbo and a salad with grilled chicken. Every thing was delicious. We were too full from our meal for dessert. The table next to us ordered bread pudding and it looked fabulous. We mentioned to Jasmine how great it looked but we just couldn't eat anymore. As we were getting ready to leave, a to go bag appeared on our table with a container of bread pudding and directions on how to heat up the sauce for later. Very nice!

    Wilted, browning salad

I wanted to love this place, but after two weekends in a row, the experience was frustrating and disappointing. The first weekend, we drove over 45 minutes only to be turned away because tables were being held for later reservations--understandable, but there was zero effort to accommodate us in any way. We made reservations for the following weekend, but a mistake was made with our name. We were seated, then moved, then told we could stay at a table reserved for 6:30 (it was 5:00) as long as we were done by then. The staff never really acknowledged or tried to fix their mistake, and we felt rushed the entire meal. When I tried to address this with the manager, she was defensive, interrupted me repeatedly, and walked away mid-conversation after mentioning she'd been the manager for 13 years--as if that meant there was nothing to improve. Our salads arrived wilted and browning, which sadly matched the tone of the service. The rest of the food was solid, but good food only goes so far when basic hospitality is missing. Driving 45+ minutes two weekends in a row to feel unwelcome is a dealbreaker. I'd like to return and try more of the menu, but not at the cost of being treated like an inconvenience.

First timer here with the in-laws from Vacherie. I absolutely loved the place. Great music, great food, and amazing employees. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich with a praline martini. Def would recommend to others who happen to be in the area.

Our company managers have a annual Christmas luncheon every year and this was the place everyone wanted to try. Centered in downtown Donaldsonville, La is this little restaurant. I advise to make reservations like we did because it gets very busy quick, especially for lunch time. We ordered 4 different appetizers: crab stuffed mushrooms, firecracker shrimp, catfish bites and crawfish cornbread. Everything was great. Full of flavor. I recommend the firecracker shrimp then the crawfish cornbread. Everyone tried something different but my choice was the crab stuffed blackened redfish topped with crab au gratin sauce. Perfect choice as it was so good and filling. It came with a side of mashed potatoes (lumpy not creamy) and downhome green beans. Our only complaint was that we were there for 2 hours because our order got pushed and it took a while to get out to us. But once it did, it was great. Our server was busy as they seemed to short handed bust she was awesome. She gave each of us a free dessert because we had to wait so long on our food (the award winning white chocolate bread pudding) So, if you are in the area or you are taking a drive and are not on any time schedule. Gems like this place in small little old towns a perfect for a bite to eat. It shows in their food that they take pride in what they do

This chicken Parmesan and crab cake dinner was fantastic. Here's a Photo I took. The sides and pudding stuffed me Royally. They have all kinds of great though heavy food options down here! Yum folks. The view and service was good too and yes I would go back for the sauce alone!

Cleaning his plate after the pecan praline cheesecake

We were passing through on a 10 hour roadtrip and didn't expect much but WOW! The food was excellent. Out of 6 people everyone was extremely happy with our meals. Very diverse menu. The shrimp bisque was phenomenal. Don't miss out on ordering it. We might have to drive back just to visit. From front of the house to wait staff to the cook - loved it. My husband licked the plate clean after the pecan praline cheesecake - best cheesecake we have ever had! If you live within 2 hours of this place - you need to make the trip!

Great spot in the historical district of Donaldsonville! Very friendly staff, and the decor is welcoming and exactly what you'd expect from a nice southern semi-boujie restaurant. Local art on the walls and the antique wood plank flooring set the vibe beautifully. The food was well prepared, seasoned nicely (but too much), and the seafood was fresh. Worth the drive from anywhere in the River Parishes or even Jefferson Parish, as well.

Heard such good things and did not disappoint. Started with the cucumber watermelon martini. That drink is dangerous because it was so refreshing. For an appetizer we started with the spicy pecan shrimp. It wasn't spicy but it was good. I got the crab stuffed portobello mushroom and my husband got the redfish stuffed with crabmeat. Both were amazing. All the paintings were beautiful and we contemplated buying one. Loved that they had a musician playing made it a perfect place to have a date night. Will definitely be back.

I came here for my birthday and of course this is a kitchen type restaurant and it has a lot of culture and culinary traditions that might be close to home in NOLA. This restaurant does not shy away from spices and seasoning so if you too scared of spicy and flavorful delicious food might need to rethink life, because this place feels like life and ancestry. The ambiance for the evening was nice and set with low lighting feels like I am in grandmas house with mask decorating the walls and lighting and sculptures that make this place feel elegant with the dark painted walls. If you're craving bold flavors and a cozy spot that feels like a hidden gem, this place never disappoints--highly recommend for locals and visitors alike! The vibe here is warm and inviting, with simple, colorful decor that transports you straight to Cameroon or Gambia without leaving NOLA. It's a small, intimate space, perfect for a casual dinner or even a quick lunch amid the Quarter's hustle. Parking can be tricky on Royal Street, but it's worth the walk--plus, the location puts you right in the mix of historic charm and lively energy. Service is always spot-on: friendly, knowledgeable staff who make you feel like family. Our server chatted about the menu's inspirations and helped customize spice levels, which is great for anyone new to African dishes. Everything came out promptly, even on a busy evening, and they were attentive without hovering. Now, the food--oh man, where to start? It's all about that delicious, authentic goodness. My absolute go-to is the shrimp rice and spinach dish; the jollof rice is perfectly spiced with a rich tomato base, tender shrimp, and just the right kick, paired with sautéed spinach that's garlicky and fresh. It's hearty, flavorful, and reminds me of home-cooked comfort with an exotic twist. We also tried the plantains--crispy on the outside, soft inside--and the akara (black-eyed pea fritters) as starters, which were crispy, savory perfection. Portions are generous, and everything's made with fresh ingredients that shine through in every bite. If you're vegetarian, they've got plenty of options like the vegetable curry that pack the same punch. Prices are reasonable for the quality--entrees around $15-20--and it's BYOB, which keeps things affordable and fun. No frills, just straight-up deliciousness. As someone who's been coming here for years, Bennachin captures the essence of authentic African flavors in a way few places do. Whether you're a NOLA native like me or just passing through, do yourself a favor and stop in--you'll leave planning your next visit!
