This was my first visit to the Grapevine Cafe. I will be back. My server, Jasmine, was wonderful. Ask for her when to visit this cafe. You are served hot French bread with real butter immediately. The cup of corn shrimp bisque was delicious and full of nice size shrimp. Seasoned perfectly. The salad comes with your meal. It is a very nice portion. My main meal was the wonderful crawfish cornbread topped with fried fish and crawfish etouffee. Such a large portion, I had to bring leftovers home. Jasmine surprised me with the white chocolate bread pudding to take home as a thank you. Very nice casual dining area. Beautiful bar. Decorated with local art you can purchase. They do not offer to go orders which is a sad policy to have when you have people who can not go and dine in. I have no problem paying for the order when it is placed so if I don't show they didn't lose. We will find another place to get a to go order and when we are able to dine in we will find another restaurant to enjoy. read more

If you don't know about this place, you need to know about it! I love the Grapevine! The food here is always so good and always on point. I always get the same thing when I go, but next time I will have to venture out because the food it was just so good when I I first started with the crabcakes, I will say the crabcakes did not come as I expected, but they were still very good. I was expecting more of a flatter crabcake, but because they were fried, it still held up to my expectation then the salad came out and the salad was very good. I also ordered a lemon berry martini and it was very good. Also, I love the sugar rim on the glass. And finally, I ordered the grilled catfish with the crawfish, cornbread and mashed potatoes and green beans and it was amazing. Our waiter always recommends the crawfish cornbread with the grilled fish, and it was literally the best thing that I've gotten. The service was amazing. Our waiter was very patient with us and took the time to explain any questions that we had. I will say when I went to the Grapevine this time it was a little darker in there than normal, which was a little concerning because I could not see the menu as well as I normally can so being that it was dark it was kinda hard to read the menu and eat our food too . For dessert I decided to get the white chocolate bread pudding and it was so hot and good. It was fresh. It was good. It wasn't too sweet it was just right overall I give this place a 10 out of 10. Jasmine is the sweetest most efficient server. She made our visit so special. The seafood gumbo - Fantastic. The roux was perfect. It wasn't too dark or too thick. It was just right. The fried green tomatoes were beautifully burdened by crab meat and remoulade. The bread pudding was spectacular - just sumptuous. The next time I'm in Donaldsonville, I will make sure to drop by. We were in the area for lunch and decided to checkout Grapevine. On a Wednesday the were busy and the crowd was definitely local. The service is fantastic. All of the staff members are friendly, seem to know their customers and are helpful to each other. We're sending a special shout out to our server Jasmine for an excellent experience. We ordered fried green tomatoes topped with crab, crab cakes, a cup of Hen and Andouille Gumbo and a salad with grilled chicken. Every thing was delicious. We were too full from our meal for dessert. The table next to us ordered bread pudding and it looked fabulous. We mentioned to Jasmine how great it looked but we just couldn't eat anymore. As we were getting ready to leave, a to go bag appeared on our table with a container of bread pudding and directions on how to heat up the sauce for later. Very nice! read more

I wanted to love this place, but after two weekends in a row, the experience was frustrating and disappointing. The first weekend, we drove over 45 minutes only to be turned away because tables were being held for later reservations--understandable, but there was zero effort to accommodate us in any way. We made reservations for the following weekend, but a mistake was made with our name. We were seated, then moved, then told we could stay at a table reserved for 6:30 (it was 5:00) as long as we were done by then. The staff never really acknowledged or tried to fix their mistake, and we felt rushed the entire meal. When I tried to address this with the manager, she was defensive, interrupted me repeatedly, and walked away mid-conversation after mentioning she'd been the manager for 13 years--as if that meant there was nothing to improve. Our salads arrived wilted and browning, which sadly matched the tone of the service. The rest of the food was solid, but good food only goes so far when basic hospitality is missing. Driving 45+ minutes two weekends in a row to feel unwelcome is a dealbreaker. I'd like to return and try more of the menu, but not at the cost of being treated like an inconvenience. read more

Our company managers have a annual Christmas luncheon every year and this was the place everyone wanted to try. Centered in downtown Donaldsonville, La is this little restaurant. I advise to make reservations like we did because it gets very busy quick, especially for lunch time. We ordered 4 different appetizers: crab stuffed mushrooms, firecracker shrimp, catfish bites and crawfish cornbread. Everything was great. Full of flavor. I recommend the firecracker shrimp then the crawfish cornbread. Everyone tried something different but my choice was the crab stuffed blackened redfish topped with crab au gratin sauce. Perfect choice as it was so good and filling. It came with a side of mashed potatoes (lumpy not creamy) and downhome green beans. Our only complaint was that we were there for 2 hours because our order got pushed and it took a while to get out to us. But once it did, it was great. Our server was busy as they seemed to short handed bust she was awesome. She gave each of us a free dessert because we had to wait so long on our food (the award winning white chocolate bread pudding) So, if you are in the area or you are taking a drive and are not on any time schedule. We were passing through on a 10 hour roadtrip and didn't expect much but WOW! The food was excellent. Out of 6 people everyone was extremely happy with our meals. Very diverse menu. This is in the center of the old business district in a well preserved building and with several paintings (yes a gallery) portrayed on the walls. Should Webster's start showing pictures of old South, or well preserved buildings I think this location could be used as a fine example. The staff was well dressed and professional. Great spot in the historical district of Donaldsonville! Very friendly staff, and the decor is welcoming and exactly what you'd expect from a nice southern semi-boujie restaurant. We went on a Wednesday night and the place was pretty hopping for being in Donaldsonville. The service was attentive and quick. We ordered the blueberry lemon drop and Bahama mamma and both were strong but delicious. We got the bang bang shrimp... a must try! And the crab cakes which they offered grilled or fried. We had grilled and they were also pretty good. My filet was tender served with mashed potatoes and green beans ( I could have skipped the beans) and I wish I had the gravy from my husbands hamburger steak for my potatoes. We had been on vacation in New Orleans and were heading home to Texas. I decided to look for some place to eat for Dinner and The Grapevine Cafe came up on my maps. My husband and I debated whether to go check it out and decided "why not". This was a GREAT choice. This restaurant is in the small town of Donaldsonville. This is one of the best seafood restaurants we have ever been to. The crab cakes were awesome, then we split the blackened Redfish dish. It was more than enough for two people. BUT the biggest surprise was the the White Chocolate Bread Pudding. This dessert was melt in your mouth AMAZING!! The wait staff was so friendly and helpful and very efficient. Woah! Wonderful surprise! I visited on a Friday around 11:00 am. I was able to park on the street. The restaurant's decor is nice, especially for a small town. I was pleasantly surprised. Our waitress was knowledgeable, attentive, and friendly. There also was a gentleman server that kept my water filled and took away the dirty dishes expeditiously. I started with the Spicy Pecan Shrimp! OMG!! This was amazing! Sweet and slightly spicy. The sauce was absolutely delicious. The Bahama Mama drink was good! They have a great cocktail menu. Grapevine has been a staple in Donaldsonville for years! The fried green beans... WOOOO! I got the chicken parmesan and as usual it was great!!! We came in with a 30 top and the server was in for a wild ride, but he took it like a champ! It was a Friday night and had a live band the whole time. My 90 year old grandma truly enjoyed this. I had lunch here two days in a row while working in the area. Both times I ate at the bar and service was quick and friendly. I enjoyed a shrimp po boy on day one. They give you the of Choice of grilled or fried shrimp which is nice. I asked for the sandwich fully dressed, but they still put the lettuce and tomato and all condiments on the side. And the tomatoes were tiny cherry tomatoes which awkwardly roll off the po boy. The salad with grilled chicken was better than average in the chicken department. The grilled chicken was juicy and very well seasoned. It was plenty of chicken on the salad too! PET PEEVE ALERT- salads served with huge pieces of uncut or unbroken lettuce. So awkward to eat! Went to the grapevine cafe for the first time in a while and it was really tasty. I started off with a cup of the crab and corn bisque and it was delicious. It had a nice rich flavor with lump crab meat and was at the perfect temperature. The crab cakes were also really good and the potatoes that came with it paired perfect with them! They were a little more on the room temperature side but other then that they were really good. Also, parking can be hard if you come at a busy time. read more

This use to be an amazing place for us to go too. We drive 40 mins to get there. However the last two times have been not so great. It seems like it has changed management. If not, the new staff isn't like the old staff. Walked in and nobody greeted us. We were standing there about 5 mins before someone came over. It wasn't even that busy. The gumbo was ok, however the rice was so stale that it crunched. My mashed potatoes had chunks that were hard. And my fish was luke warm. The waitress barley checked on us. The table next to us was so close, that when the lady got up, her rear end was against our table. And we really miss the guy that would sing and play guitar. That could be gone cause of covid. I don't know. But the place seems to have lost its charm. And that saddens me, because it was a special place for us. I don't know if we will be making the drive back again. read more
