This place, absolutely hands-down, is one of the most important establishments we have in Southern Colorado. Sobriety can be fun, nutritious, and medicine!

Great non-alcoholic options and kava drinks. Calm and welcoming atmosphere with a lot of space.

The 59er is a "speakeasy" for gamers. Not sure why it's considered a speakeasy though because you can just walk from the game shop or ice cream shop into it. Nothing sneaky about it. Not sure how they make money as it seemed that people camp out here for hours playing D&D and Magic. [Also strange that I saw people bring in their own beer - seems like that could jeopardize their license] The food was ok. Nothing to write home about. I did have their grilled cheese sandwich. I don't recall all that it had on it other than a jam and a brie. It was tasty but the ingredients seemed really really stingy. The sandwich would have been better with a better melting cheese. The employees we've met (once for ice cream and once for The 59er), have been nice but also STRESSED. They don't have enough help. They're running around trying to manage all the different aspects of the space. There will often be a lengthy wait on ice cream because they're serving food in the back, helping in the game shop. I bet they'd have less shoplifting and more visitors if they had more staff to give a better experience.

The drinks were also very expensive, 15-18 bucks a pop. I hope it gets better because it could be so cool with better music, better decor, and better service.

The first time I was there was many years ago, when the warm fireplace with couches was a centerpiece and memorable. It's upstairs, off the street, windows looking out. I finally made it back with a friend, and we had a great time; however, as John C. said in his comments, I can relate to the (still current) problems they seem to be facing with only one employee available, and no one to make the cheese fondue we were looking forward to. We settled for a cheese and hummus & olive plates, which were good, just not what we wanted. I do not recall the fireplace going. There were a couple of other parties seated at tables, and it seemed as though our server was a bit overwhelmed. He did know about the wine, which we appreciated. I do not wish to write off this special place and am hopeful they will make improvements based on reviews like this one.

It was pretty magical since it was absolutely adorable in there. There were two staff members who were so cool. One (of course I don't remember the name because I'm the WORST with names) was so friendly and talked to us for a while. They made some recommendations, chatted for a little, and really made out short time there really lovely. 100% will be back for dessert and a glass of wine.

A re- gentrified and artsy downtown enclave with paid parking at $2 for two hours . Meeting my buddy here for a fun girls day lunch was a good choice ! . We felt very welcomed and not rushed which we appreciated. Appetizer of "boudin balls " was absolutely unique !4 big cheese & rice & sausage deep fried balls I'm a bed a savory dark gravy/sauce . I could only compare it to a casserole gone snack size ? Not unpleasant just unexpected. For my main I was so tempted by another "appetizer" , that after the waitrons glowing recommendation I had to go for the soy glazed grilled Brussels sprouts . They were everything promised . A bowl of ELK CHILI was the perfect accompaniment. My gal pal ordered the "most popular " fish and chips " and declared it was the best fried cod she'd found since her Alaska vacation. There were other intriguing menu choices , especially the wild game options , so I will certainly revisit this unique and welcoming restaurant!
