We went out looking for a car for a car for my daughter yesterday. One of the dealerships we went to was Grayson Subaru. I have never been treated more rudely in my life. We had two separate salesmen approach us while we were walking through the lot to see what they had that we might be interested in. The first one was a bit pushy, but left us alone when we told him we were just looking to see what they had and would come find him if we wanted to take something for a test drive. The other one approached us several minutes later asking if he could help us. My husband told him we were just looking. He kept pushing, so I told him we had already been helped. His response was to tell me the cheap cars that are under $5,000 were a few rows past the Genesis vehicles we were near. This man has no idea what our budget is or what we were looking for at all. The fact that he decided to imply that we could only afford a $5,000 car is absolutely ridiculous. I told him that comment just lost any sale that dealership might have made from us. I also told him he was being an ass. After that, the first sales guy we spoke with piped up and said, "don't worry, they did the same thing to me too!" We just want to look at the vehicles on the lot without being hassled or followed around. If I could give zero stars, I would. I will never recommend this dealership. read more

Since moving to the Knoxville area in 2017, our family has purchased six (6) vehicles just from Grayson. We had been extremely pleased with the Sales, Finance, and Service departments. In fact, in all of our dealings through those six vehicles, it would be safe to say that we felt the people there have been great, and we never had any sort of problem or issue. So when our 24 year old son needed a vehicle, where did we turn to? Grayson naturally. Why wouldn't we? We have had nothing but great experiences over the years and six (6) vehicles. Our son couldn't afford a new car, so he took his mom with him and they looked at used cars. And on December 31st, 2021 he purchased a 2009 Outback that Grayson had been advertising on the internet. He also purchased a warranty from Grayson. Unfortunately, it was with the purchase of car number seven that the wheels came off the wagon for our family. We didn't expect a used car to be perfect. Why would it be? It's a used car. But we had a certain expectation of merchantability. Less than two weeks later, our son took the car back to Grayson as he kept smelling burning oil. He had purchased the warranty so we were all shocked when the Service Department there at Grayson gave him a repair estimate of $5399.26, and said none of it was covered under the warranty. So why such a high repair bill, you might ask? Apparently $2850.00 of that repair estimate was for a new head gasket (the cause of the burning oil smell), and buried in the fine print in the warranty is an exclusion that it doesn't cover the head gasket. But the big question here is, why was the car sold to us if it had a blown head gasket? When we approached the sales department there at Grayson Subaru about selling us a car with a blown head gasket the individuals we dealt with all denied any wrong doing (And in our opinion some of them were even a little rude about it. In fact we are *still* waiting for the salesman to return our phone call like he said he would, and it's been almost three weeks now). However, a manager we finally spoke to saw our family had been loyal customers and agreed to cover up to $1000.00 of the repair costs. This manager even arranged to have the car serviced locally by another repair shop here in Knoxville, instead of the Service Department there at Grayson, as it would be cheaper. So long story short here is that (1) our trust and respect of the Grayson dealership has been utterly destroyed, (2) as things now stand they will never get any more business from us, and (3) it's our opinion that if you like to give money to people who will sell you a car with a blown head gasket, Grayson Subaru is apparently a good place to go car shopping. read more

I would have given them no stars if I could have. My car is due for 45,000 mile service. I've tried for 3 days to get someone to tell me how much I can expect this to cost (without extras that might come up). I've been but on hold for more than 20 minutes more than once then disconnected, told someone would call me back, twice. no one ever did. Take your car somewhere else for service - they obvious don't need your business. They are already too busy to handle what they already have. They wanted a very large down payment, they wanted a very short-term lease, which leads me to believe that they knew this car wouldn't last and sold it to me anyways, I called and spoke to Shannon Bowlin used car manager (spelling) because any ethical dealership with integrity should help with the repairs if it's been less than a month, of course I knew he would say "you signed 4 papers stating AS IS" ,that they make no guarantees to anybody and that they don't even check the vehicles before they put them on the lot" ????? How do you not check your mechanical issues before you put a car on a lot? kind of ridiculous if you ask me. I just bought a new car from Grayson Subaru. The sales experience was great and the guy that sold us the car was amazing. I am giving them three stars because of the false information provided on the deal sheet. I agreed to pay a $249 fee to have serial numbers engraved on my car because they told me there was no way to get around paying that fee. Once I made peace with the additional fee and got home I realized there had been no engraving done whatsoever. They literally placed stickers on the door panels of the vehicle. When I looked on Amazon the exact stickers sell for approximately $19. This is a huge scam and I am very disappointed in the dealership. Because of this I will not be going to this particular dealership for my scheduled maintenance or future purchases. Honesty and transparency go along way and repeat business. read more

To be quite honest one star is to many!! I have been speaking to a salesman for about 5 days, trying to set up a time to come and see a vehicle. I was finally able to get off work early to get down there before they closed. When I showed up I was alerted to the fact that the gentleman I had been speaking to left early and someone else had the vehicle. So I proceeded to leave, since he wasn't there and I didn't want to deal with anyone else mind you I also had my one year old with me and didn't know how long this other couple would be with the vehicle. Fast forward to today the same salesman let me know that the vehicle didn't sale yesterday and was still available. I proceeded to ask him if it would actually be there today if I came to look at it and this man actually wanted to argue with me through text. We've owned 4 Subaru Outbacks (from other dealerships) and I can't believe Grayson in Knoxville is actually a Subaru dealership. So, where do I start, they've earned every second of my time to tell everyone on this yelp site just how terrible they are. Strike One: In March of 2022 we tried to purchase a new Outback from Grayson, but they wanted $6700 above MSRP. I challenged them on the unethical pricing they were doing and they could care less, they simply want to make a buck. So, we went to Crown Subaru in Chattanooga and built our car and paid MSRP. Crown Subaru was wonderful. Strike Two: As I said, we purchased a 2022 Subaru Outback from Crown Subaru. Then after delivery, we noticed a large staple in the side of one tire (we only had about 800 miles on the car). It was obvious the staple was from the factory. So, we took the car to Grayson service department because they are closer than Chattanooga (remember, Grayson is a Subaru dealership). I paid for a new tire and the service manager said they would return the tire to Subaru and then refund my money. Well, that was back in August of 2022. After months of follow-up, a different service manager told me today "oh well, too bad", they are not going to do anything to refund the tire. I've heard some people like Grayson and we see their little stickers on a lot of cars. I simply don't get it??? Do yourself a favor and go to Crown Subaru in Chattanooga. At this point, I would drive further than Chattanooga to avoid Grayson in Knoxville. I would give Grayson zero stars, but that's not an option. I recently bought a WRX from Grayson and the experience was ok at best. The process took over 6 hours to complete and every step was drawn out like they were paid by the hour. My car is fine, but the dealership marks up the extended warranty and pre paid maintenance at a very high margin. Fast forward 3 months and my wife just purchased a new Ascent. We went through Wallace in Johnson City because of the excessive time, up charges and lack of effort by Grayson to treat me as a valuable customer. I forgot t mention their lack of effort to give me value on my trade, also a Subaru. Wallace worked with us and we saved several thousand dollars on her purchase. Because of the excessive mark up on the add ons, I do not have everything on my WRX, my wife's Ascent has extended warranty and pre paid service for less than Grayson charges for just one of the options. Gouging me cost them an additional sale, but they never even asked why I did not return for my next purchase. Wallace also told us of additional perks we get that Grayson "forgot" to mention, drive a few miles and get better service, price and education on your new Subaru. read more

Half of the employees didn't have a mask on or they were being worn incorrectly. Horrible. delayed and botched our registration. 5 voice mails, one email, one live chat request for contact and another voice mail to the owner have gone without any response. Finally reached my salesman and he said the Sales Manager would call me back if he didn't get too busy. Funny how they were not too busy to cash the check I wrote to pay for a new Subaru Outback. our temporary registration was due to expire - after that we couldn't legally drive our new car. With a great deal of effort I finally got the license plate and registration - took 7 weeks instead of two or less but guess what? They didn't order the handicapped plate. i got to go to the County Clerks office, sit in line and pay a fee because they were considered replacement plates. I can accept mistakes and delays if someone cared enough to communicate with me and return a call. DON'T BUY ANYTHING FROM THESE PEOPLE. ONCE THEY CASH YOUR CHECK OR GET PAID BY YOUR FINANCE COMPANY THEY WILL DROP YOU LIKE A HOT ROCK. Yes, in addition to all of the above I left a message for Walter Grayson. Guess what? No response. Trust me... take your business elsewhere. The Subaru dealerships I have dealt with in the past have been far more professional and reliable than my experience with Grayson. I was shown a car with a cracked windshield and other cars with Check Engine lights on. The salesman told me that they don't know anything about the cars other than what is on the Carfax report -- in other words, they don't know any more about the car than you (the buyer) do. I was shocked at the lack of care and knowledge presented at Grayson Subaru. Additionally, I was pressured into making a decision before they closed for the evening. My salesman said, "Let me try to find something for you really quick before we close!" I am glad I went elsewhere. When cars in their inventory have a "check engine" light on, they do not take it to a mechanic to find out why! You have to buy the car as is and hope it is not a serious issue! After leaving Grayson Subaru, I found out that their reputation is, unfortunately, well-known throughout the area. I found their approach careless, rushed, uninformed, and irresponsible. Their cars are overpriced (and, in many cases, unsafe!) and I do not trust their staff to do right by their customers. Our salesman Larry could not have been more helpful both with showing us all the cars that we were interested in, and helping us find cars with the features we were looking for without any pressure on his part. He was also outstanding in helping us set the car up after we bought it. We are an older couple and we really appreciated this since this car had a lot of features that we were not used to. I have requested and still am waiting on a manager to reach out to me (sent 3 emails) about them needing to buy my car back - It is one thing to say the engine is not warrantied but it is another when they failed to tell me that the car had extensive water damage. Robert was our salesperson and he "threw away " the carfax that he did not offer to us. He then went to "warm up the car" to "dry out" the shampoo. Buying experience was pleasant. Service department is terrible. Took last Subaru Outback in because electric front passenger seat was stuck - wouldn't move forward/backward. Was told entire seat had to be replaced for $2000. I declined. When the car was returned, my "lost" insulated coffee cup, now dented, had been placed in passenger seat - evidently from under the stuck seat. Seat worked perfectly for another year and a half til I sold car. August of 2021 took new Outback in for 10:30 appointment for prepaid oil change. Arrived at 10:20. Was told it would be an hour and a half til oil could be changed. Free car wash with each service visit promised by salesman as perk for purchase. Seems the free car wash people are always an hour and a half behind. Three months ago I inquired about the free loaner cars. They were booked six weeks out. read more

I went to Grayson Subaru because it was the only Subaru dealership in Knoxville. I was not a Subaru driver, but was interested in the new Crosstrek. I went to test drive a Crosstrek, but the new car salesman acted as if I was waiting his time and marched me to the used car section of the dealership. He didn't even introduce me to the second salesman...just walked off. After a few more days of research, I decided I wanted to go with the 2021 Crosstrek and I called Earl Duff Subaru. They were very helpful, answered all my questions and allowed me to take the car on an extended test drive. Used car buyer BEWARE. I DO NOT recommend this dealership after my horrific experience recently. Please know that this business will have no problem selling you a vehicle that is dangerous. Yes, the car I purchased ended up having major safety issues. WARNING! The sales manager told me that once they receive a trade-in that they DO NOT look at that used vehicle AT ALL before they put it back out on their lot to sell. HIS EXACT WORDS. Do not assume that just because this is a relatively large dealership that they will be more safety minded and ethical when it comes to their customers. I learned some very painful lessons here. This was the WORST ENCOUNTER with a dealership that I have ever experienced in my life. These same "wonderful" people before the sale showed absolutely no concern nor empathy after the sale. They just gave me an empty canned response. Fact of the matter is that once they got my money they did not care. This dealership could have had a customer for life, but now I will never set foot on the grounds of this business again. Did I mention that I fall in the 800+ credit score club? Now, I will make a point to warn as many people as I can about their concerning practices based on their own words. Everything worked out for me (thank God) after I met some incredible people at another dealership. I had a similar experience to Rachel F. Avoid this place! Here's my experience: I brought my Subaru in for an oil change and got a call back saying it needed a 30k and 40k service at the same time for over +$1k in parts and labor. I called the previous service center (dealership) to ask whether the 30k service had already been done (I'm the second owner) and they explained that everything Grayson was recommending had already been completed the previous year. Better yet, all the service completed was online for the car and any dealer could access records for the car and should have known that it was already done. So, essentially Grayson was either a) trying to recommend services they knew wasn't needed but wanted to charge me for anyways or b) was to lazy or inept to use the dealer network to determine the work was already done. Either way, I would not recommend them for service and will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

Went in for an oil change and they tried to up-sale $1600. Granted, the rear brake pads could be changed but the other stuff was NOT in need of repair. In my opinion they are crooks that can't be trusted. I'll drive the extra distance to Harriman for my car maintenance. Had my rear brake pads replaced at Earl Duff in Harriman. I was pleased. Their multi-point inspection did not show any other repairs needed. It's worth the drive to avoid the Grayson dishonesty. read more

Took my car in for repairs, made an appointment on Friday. They called me with a diagnosis of $1,800 and I told him I'd call him back after speaking with my partner. Tried to call back and was in hold for 15 min so I called back in and left a message with a different service rep that they could move forward on the car. After calling multiple times Friday to get a status we just decided to pick it up on Saturday. Called first this Saturday and they said they were waiting on us to move forward... hadn't done anything. Then, when they finally worked on it, they didn't have a part they needed so we didn't end up getting our car until Tuesday. I had to call and wait in hold multiple times just to get updates with no one ever reaching out to me to give me any updates. When I finally picked it up, my bill was $2,200 rather than the $1,800 I was charged and the employee ringing me up couldn't explain to me why it cost $500 more. I bought a new Subaru from Grayson a little over 5 years ago. The first 4 years taking the vehicle to them for service were ok (they found nail holes in tires several times in 4 years, but ok). The real problems started in the last year in the body shop, which I needed for two relatively minor fender benders. The first time wasn't too bad. The work took a month to complete (which was twice as long as they told me it would) and communication was not good, but work was done well in the end. The second time, however, was awful. The work took 3x longer than estimated, communication was extremely bad again, work was not done well (some problems were never fixed properly, including my driver's seat that they badly damaged), & the body shop manager will treat you very badly if you express unhappiness with any of it. I didn't get to finish my second sentence in telling him what was happening before he called me a "liar" and then told me that the problem was my attitude and shouted at me to "get out." A few weeks later, when I went to the service department because the vehicle needed basic maintenance, the service manager decided he wanted to be a part of the problems I'd had with the body shop (that he never needed to be a part of) and refused to provide maintenance for my vehicle. In addition to an oil change, I needed 4 new tires (because they'd found a nail hole again). He told me to go to Pep Boys. The entire experience was so bad that my wife wanted me to sell the Subaru and never buy another one again. If anyone reads this and other reviews and decides to do business with Grayson Subaru, I can only shake my head and wish them good luck. read more

We have purchased 2 vehicles from Grayson Subaru. The first was a 2008 Forester and we had no problems. We traded it in for a 2017 Crosstrek again with no issues, until we went to change the oil for the first time. As other reviews have pointed out Grayson does not seem to know how to change the oil. The plug was rounded and when the mechanic where we took it to get our oil changed finally got it off (it took him 2 hours) it was totally messed up. The oil change place then told us to contact our dealer to fix it as they were the ones who mess it up. By the way the oil pan was all dented up as well like they tried using an impact wrench to put the plug on. I called Grayson who insisted we would have to bring it to them. We live 2 hours away. When I asked them if they were going to pay for the tow, they said no. We sent them pictures to show them the problem but the salesman who sold it to us, Mike Anderson, said they did not need to look at them and that his manager still insisted we had to bring it in. Needless to say, we will not be purchasing anymore vehicles from Grayson and definitely will not be getting an oil change from them. read more

Larry Bonito is the primary reason we chose to purchase a new Ascent at Grayson Subaru. Yes, it's an all new vehicle, & so far we are very pleased. But we are not your typical Subaru buyers, having driven German brands for many years. We talked w/Larry off & on for almost a year about our requirements. He never tried to push a car that didn't fit our needs. He was patient in answering our questions and listened. When the new Ascent was announced, Larry called to say that he would soon have a model that truly matched our requirements. It does, & we bought it! Came in for my 60k checkup- it was going to cost 745$ plus tax. This took about 5 minutes to get out of the tech who repeated "I'm writing it all out for you so you can see what it is". I haven't been mansplained/condescended to like that in some time. Bravo Subaru. And they say now- none of this is covered by my warranty or maintenance package even though at multiple other points- like when I bought the car- I was told it would. Found a vehicle my daughter wanted and my father and I worked out the deal for the purchase. We let the dealership know we were on our way to get the vehicle and that we had an hour drive and gave a heads up as to the arrival time. Running a bit behind let salesman know, got to the dealership and the car was sold out from underneath us. Very disappointed daughter. Very shady salesmen. And just the absolute wrong way to do business. We were not even informed someone else was looking at the vehicle.
