Beware reservations here. We waited 40 minutes for our party of 4 to be seated for our 8:00pm reservation on a Monday evening. The hostess was friendly but clearly in a bind with either too many reservations or tables overstaying their time. Somewhat surprisingly, we weren't offered anything for our wait, and so we each paid $61 for our 1 entree and 1 glass of wine. The food is good but arguably overpriced, and the 4% "this is not a gratuity" surcharge is an added insult when you get your check. My girlfriend and I stopped here on a whim this past weekend and we were pleasantly surprised at how good it was. It's pretty close to the metro (within a 10 min walk) so it's easy to get to. We started with a couple of drinks. We got the Limoncello Sour and the Elderflower Spritz. The Limincello one was definitely sweeter than the elderflower one. The elderflower spritz is on the more bitter side so keep that in mind. The food is really good here. Not the best Italian food in DC but you won't leave disappointed either. We got the Vodka Sauce with Meatballs added to it. The spicy vodka sauce was really good. I haven't had one in a while so I was happy to have it. We also got the Drunken Love pizza. It was delicious! Pizza is my favorite food so I always love when it's good. I'd say it was an 8.7/10. The ambiance is casual with a bit of flair. The lighting was a little darker and set the mood. There were some crystal chandeliers hanging from the ceilings. There were also cool dripping candles. The service was awesome. We didn't get our bartender's name but she was super attentive and helpful. Even though it was only her third day, it was like she had worked there for months based on her knowledge and recommendations. Any time she didn't know something, she went and asked for us. Tucked away on the first floor of a highrise building on Capital Hill, Grazie Nonna has a relatively small restaurant with a chic outside bar and patio. Inside, there are several 2 tops and a half dozen 6 tops, making Nonna large group friendly. We visited on a Saturday afternoon with reservations, which is highly recommended as the restaurant remained busy the entire time we were there. Grazie also has a "Pizza Bar* which allows patrons to sit right in front of the pizza prep area for a front row to the action. Service: 5/5. We were beyond satisfied with the staff at Grazie Nonna from start to finish. We were seated immediately for our 5:15pm reservations and drink food orders taken shortly afterwards. Food came out at an excellent pace and when we needed to grab the check, it was easily done so. Food: 5/5. The pizza hype is real. Some of the best tasting and texturally appealing pizza in DC. We opted for the Drunken Love Pizza, which uses vodka sauce, fresh pepperoni's, basil and a heaping dose of Parm dusted across the top. The fresh made dough at Grazie is what separates them from the pack. The pizza has zero flop with a beautifully crispy bite, but with chew similar to many pies you would have up in NYC. The sauce is also noteworthy, as the vodka sauce on the Drunken Love provided unbelievable umami in every bite. On the pasta front, we ordered the Sunday Sauce which was also fantastic. Came here with a couple of friends for dinner during the week and I'm so glad we did! It was my first time dining here and the space is amazing! It had a lovely indoor space and outdoor patio area. We sat inside and the ambiance was a little on the modern side but still casual. We ordered the Arancini, Burrata, Tuna Crudo, Drunken Love Pizza, and Sunday Sauce Pasta. We wanted to try a little of everything. The Arancini was a hit for sure, but opt out if you don't like mushrooms. Our table liked the Burrata a lot and we were a little split on the Tuna Crudo. If you like sushi, you'll like the tuna. The Drunken Love Pizza was pretty good an enough for each of us to get a couple slices each. We were glad to share it and we all liked it. We also ordered a side of garlic bread which came out first as an appetizer, this one was so garlicy, definitely a must order in my opinion! For dessert they had three options: tiramisu, butterscotch pudding, and brownie with cannoli filling. We ordered the brownie which I didn't enjoy too much as the brownie was a little too dense and fudgy for my liking. The brownie was also room temperature, I think this dish could've been improved by heating it up. I'm very particular about my pasta and hate mushy or store-bought options. This pasta was incredibly fresh and cooked perfectly al dente. I had the vodka sauce pasta, and I would happily travel 40 minutes every day just for that dish. My partner and I also shared the Drunken Love pizza, and it definitely lived up to the hype. Service was good overall, though we felt a bit neglected at the pizza bar initially--understandable on a busy Saturday night. I love this place so much. Everything is so delicious, and the staff is also amazing. The first time I visited, I got the eggplant parm. I'm not typically a red sauce girlie but this dish was to die for. Incredible and huge portions. The second time I got the vodka sauce with shrimp which was also soooo yummy. I think I liked the eggplant parm better, but you can't go wrong. Nonna's martini was excellent. This last time I went, the server was so accommodating to my friends who expressed to him that they love alfredo sauce (lol) they did a chicken parm with alfredo sauce instead of white sauce, and my friend looooved it. They also did chicken parm with red sauce and pasta with alfredo for my partner. I loved how they were so open to customizing our dishes based on our preferences. It went a long way. The pistachio brownie and tiramisu were also delicious, and they gave us the tiramisu on the house for my friend's birthday :) Will be returning!!! read more

We had a reservation for 5:15 and I would recommend making a reservation because it was packed when we got there and the place had just opened for dinner service. I don't know how they make that vodka sauce, but it's a must for a 5/5 experience. My friend and I were blown away by how flavorful and deep the sauce was. We were here for dinner this past Thursday evening. I would recommend making a reservation in advance. Even at 5:45 PM, the restaurant was packed. The interior is pretty grand, the spacing between tables isn't a whole lot so it's a pretty tight fit. Our server was very attentive and made sure we always had enough water. We were able to get our orders in within 5 minutes of sitting down and our first entree arrived soon after. MACARONI: VODKA SAUCE - 20 The bowl of pasta is pretty small, and I personally could eat at least 1.5 of this serving size to be full. The pasta they use here is Mafalde, which I've never had before. But I really like the shape of it and feel like it holds the sauce well with its wavy edges. The pasta was perfectly cooked with a nice chew. The sauce was, oh man, so, so good. It was so creamy, rich, hearty, comforting and a bunch of other adjectives that only positively describes this sauce. The slight spice to it added more depth to it, and the fresh basil and cheese grated on top was chef's kiss. My friend and I loved the sauce and I smothered my pasta with it. So amazing. Like most of the Yelp reviews, I can't recommend this pasta for its phenomenal vodka sauce. PIZZA: DRUNKEN LOVE - 22 More vodka sauce!! This pizza is topped with pepperoni, the fresh basil, and a variety of cheeses. And again, the vodka sauce! The pizza dough was chewy and a good texture (I even ate the crust). The ambiance inside was very old school Italian with pretty chandeliers and dim lighting. The bar was full but didn't have the sitting on top of someone feeling. While sitting at the bar, you have direct view of the pizza making station. I give this place a 4/5. The noise level is pretty loud but it wasn't a problem for me. Service: 3/5 I sat at the bar. I wasn't blown away with the experience. The bar tender didn't seem friendly, never asked if this was my first time dining or followed up with me about my meal once it came out. Overall, a very good Italian eatery. My friend and I had a late Monday night reservation and Grazie Nonna was packed-you will definitely need a reservation. Grazie Nonna has an unusual and contradictory vibe-it has the trappings of a fancy restaurant (e.g., white tablecloths, candles, dimmer lighting, formal attire for servers) but plays loud music (which made it hard to hear) and has nostalgic decorations (which are nice but don't seem to fit). The vibe did not work for me-it seemed like Grazie Nonna was trying to do too much and mesh two contradictory environments. Additionally, finding Grazie Nonna is not immediately intuitive-you need to go behind a couple of office buildings in the complex. However, once you do that, Grazie Nonna has a big sign that makes it hard to miss. Despite the busy restaurant, my friend and I were promptly seated at our reservation time. Our server was friendly and gave us good recommendations when we asked. While the pizzas were on the slower side to come out (about 15 minutes for each), we had otherwise perfect service. The food is very good, with large portion sizes at fair prices. My friend and I ordered and split the Panzanella burrata, the Classic pizza with a shaved onion add-on, and the Green Goodness pizza. The panzanella burrata got better with every bite, as the vinaigrette shone through and complemented every bite. The croutons were crunchy and the burrata creamy, with the tomatoes providing additional quality acid. The Classic was the better of the two pizzas we tried. The Dinapoli tomatoes were unique and provided an excellent acid and a consistency between tomatoes and tomato sauce. The crust had a nice crunch, perfectly wood-fired, airy in the middle, delicious cheese, and well-roasted shaved onions. The Green Goddess was fine but needed an acid as it was slightly bland. Grazie Nonna is definitely worth trying, especially for a weeknight dinner and would especially recommend if you want a family-style Italian meal. We came here on a Friday night and did not plan ahead enough to get a reservation. We arrived at 7 pm as a walk-in and only had to wait for 30 mins for 2 seats at the bar. We started with the burrata which is served over panzanella. This unique dish was the highlight of the meal for me. Then we moved on to two pizzas, the popular drunken love and il bruco with sausage rather than mushrooms. The il bruco was so. good. Honestly better than the drunken love which was also tasty. For dessert we got the tiramisu and the butterscotch pudding. I know what you're thinking but DO NOT sleep on the pudding! It was 100% the best dessert. This was my wife's and I first time eating at Grazie Nonna, and we couldn't have had a better experience. We we sat at the bar to wait for a table and immediately upon the vibes of the bartender Mike we decided to stay and it was the best decision because of his customer service. He was very knowledgeable of the menu and didn't hesitate to give his suggestions which means a lot already being a busy bartender. We really felt like guest instead of a number on a point of sale screen. My wife and I shared the the Drunken Love pizza and Sunday Sauce dish and they were both phenomenal. This was one of the best pizzas I've had up here in the DMV area thus far and trust I've had some good pizza.If I had to give one critique on our main meal is the garlic bread. While it was very good for the price point I wish they would give you two pieces in stead of one. The desserts didn't drop off either the Tiramisu wasn't too sweet and not too dense, but the start of the night was this pudding they had. Sorry I forgot the name and didn't don't have a set dessert menu, but it was fantastic, trust me if they have that when you visit get that dessert. Overall it was a great experience, so much so that we wanted to talk to the Assistant General Manager Mr. Kamal to give props for the great service and even he was very apprciative of the gesture.
