Grazie Nonna is a fun new Italian spot in DC. It's a pretty busy spot but a fun vibe! For drinks I started with the paese del Nord which is one of their sweeter drinks with vodka and a rosemary/sage taste. Other drinks my friends ordered were the elderflower spritz and Negroni sbagliato. We also started with the Arancini which was delicious and had an amazing sauce with it. For food I got their vodka pasta. It was really good, but I do wish the portions were bigger. My friend got their drunken love pizza which was also really good! The vodka sauce on the pizza made it delicious and it was a nice thin crust. Another friend of mine got their prosciutto and peas pasta which came with a garlic cream sauce. All of my food was excellent, the price was fair (but beware of a 4% fee), the ambiance was romantic, and the kitchen was lively but not obnoxious. This place really has the potential to knock it out of the park. However; I was disappointed by the service. The server checked on me only one time, so I sat with an empty drink. For water, boxes, the check, and to order dessert, I had to track down the busser and wait extremely long times. It was rather irritating after about 40 mins. Finally, when I paid, the server Diazz snatched the terminal right from my hand before I could even print my receipt. I had to ask the busser for assistance for a copy of the receipt. This restaurant has so many positives, but with service like this, it definitely does not feel like a Michelin star. For food, I ordered the limoncello sour (love a good egg cocktail and the house made limoncello sounded intriguing.) I bet all of the cocktails are tasty. I had the burrata panzanella antipasti which had a lot of crunch and a nice acidity. The burrata was less runny than I am used to but still creates delicious bites. Deserves the hype that it gets because the food here is delicious! I was super excited that they now offer lunch and immediately went to try. We got the Sweet Tooth pizza and the Melanzana sandwich. The sandwich had a great balance of flavors and tasted super fresh. The bread had the perfect chew and the sesame seeds added a nice savoriness. I love when pizzas have a slight sweetness so I definitely enjoyed the Sweet Tooth - it was also great value for me as I had half leftover (even after stuffing myself) that I could save for another meal. Crazy enough I was just at this restaurant two days ago and left the five star review. I came back for lunch around 2 o'clock before I left out for Chicago. I sat at the bar and ordered my food when 230 hit just around the time they start closing to prepare for dinner. As I was sitting at the bar, it was like I was part of the staff discussion as the manager scolded the employee for not doing as he asked, and always trying to point fingers to another employee. Not only that I heard so much more about how things are gonna start picking up and talk about the calamari overall just stuff that a customer shouldn't be hearing. What a great spot! I had been wanting to come here since it opened and met my friend on a weeknight for dinner. We did not have a reservation and called ahead to see if we could be seated, but didn't really get a clear answer. I got there first and as I walked up, I saw many empty tables so figured we'd be seated quickly. I asked the hostess for a table for 2 and she said there weren't any available (despite there being at least 7 open tables) but offered us a seat at the bar. I took it and got to watch the kitchen make pizza in front of me! Our server was very attentive and made sure we had enough food/drinks/etc. my friend and I both ordered the seven 7s, and shared the vodka pasta, the green goddess pizza, and the brownie. Everything was really good. The pasta portion was a little on the small side but the pizza was sizable. The pizza was really unique, it was creamy, herby and a little spicy. Omg and the brownie was such an unexpectedly delicious treat! It was so fudgy and had pistachios and I think honey and whipped cream on top. Grazie Nonna is a very good Italian spot with a great vibe--especially the covered outdoor patio where we sat, which was perfect. The wine list had some nice options, and service was friendly, though a bit spotty at times. The antipasti platter was delicious--especially the bread, which was drenched in olive oil in the best way. The eggplant parm was a standout. I fully planned to take half home, but it was so good I ended up eating the whole thing. My friends also enjoyed their pizzas and pastas. This was a clear indication of how amazing the rest of the dinner was going to be. My wife is a huge pasta lover and had been wanting to eat at this place for a while (believe me, we tried getting a reservation many times!). I am a pizza lover, so I got the classic pizza. I love eating classics instead of going for a heavily topped version, so I got the 'Classic Pizza. My wife got macaroni with vodka sauce. One thing we loved about this place is how vegetarian-friendly they are. Even though we eat meat, all the dishes we checked had no meat but provided meat as an add-on. We took our dishes as is, without any condiment add-ons. The server did mention that since dishes came out from different parts of the kitchen, they might come out of sync, but they would try to keep them as much in sync as possible. Maybe even the best thin crust pizza in the city. Dining at Grazie Nonna for a date night on an October Saturday evening, here's our experience: 1) Food: Inspired by the classic Italian family-run restaurants across the U.S., the menu is fill of familiar Italian regulars. They have antipasti like burrata and calamari. Three salads, including a Caesar. Six different pizzas and seven pastas, including a Sunday Sauce. There are three big platters and a few sides. To feed two of us, we ordered the burrata, La Luna salad, meatballs, Sunday Sauce, and the Atlantic Avenue pizza. We ended up taking half of it home. Each item was excellent, but the stand outs were the pizza with it's thin crust and flavorful ingredients like the long hots (spicy peppers). The meatballs also were a standout dish. 2) Drinks: They have five cocktails, three negronis, beer, and wine. If you like sour/semi-sweet drinks, get the Mandorla Sour. My wife ordered two classic negronis! 3) Price: For D.C., the prices were on par with other nearby restaurants. Cocktails are $14-$15. Pizzas are $18-$22. Pastas between $18-$28. 4) Service: It was impeccable. Timing was spot on and our server was friendly without being intrusive. The chef comes to your table throughout and his passion is contagious. 5) Space: Like all restaurants in Mid City Center, tall glass act as walls letting in lots of light. There's a long bar and tables throughout the space. Restrooms are shared with next door Little Chicken, whose owners are the same as Grazie Nonna. Different types of lights hang from the ceiling, including a few chandelier. 6) Neighborhood: It's in downtown D.C. near many other restaurants and shops. After my experience at Grazie Nonna, I can see it quickly becoming a staple in the DC Italian restaurant scene.   The menu had some fun drinks but other than that it seemed small with some fairly standard dishes for an Italian restaurant which made me have somewhat average expectations of the food. Once the food arrived however, my expectations were surpassed.   My group decided to get the "Drunken Love" pizza as an appetizer to split. I ended up going with "Chicken Parmigiana" for a main course and an "Elderflower Spritz" for a drink. The "Drunken Love" was the perfect size to split between 3 people as an appetizer. It was also a very light pizza in terms of the pizza crust. The "Chicken Parmigiana" was also a great dish. The taste was good (especially the chicken) and the portion size was perfect if not a little big. A big plus of the evening was the drink. Whether you want a drink to go with your food or for after your meal the "Elderflower Spritz" is my recommendation. It was sweet without being overpowering in taste and paired well with the food.   The atmosphere of the restaurant was also nice and gave a cozy feeling. The lights were low with a warm glow and the color pallet of the restaurant paired perfectly to make you feel like you are in an inviting space. The staff were also very kind and attentive. The only downside to the restaurant is that it is a bit of a small space which may cause an issue on a busy night. If you like Italian food and are looking for a new scene this is the place for you. Best bread in the city--hands down. Grazie Nonna has become my go-to for an excellent work lunch. I've been three times now, and every visit has been just as good as the last. In and out with quick, friendly service, and the eggplant sandwich is amazing (and I'm not even vegetarian). Nice wine selection, too. Refreshing to have homemade authentic Italian food in the area. There's an open kitchen concept at the bar where you can view them making pizza. Everything on the menu is delicious. So we heard about this place from a friend who used to be a local so we decided to check it out. It's in a bit of an odd location tucked in between a few buildings. There's plenty of seating inside and out and very nicely decorated. We had reservations so we got seated pretty fast. The staff wasn't rude at all but I wouldn't say they were super friendly. I remember it taking a while for someone to initially come to our table and after getting our drinks my girlfriends Aperol spritz Looked really weak and just watered down. She orders them quite often so we noticed right away it didn't look right. It took a few minutes to wave down our server and after we asked to add some more she came back with barely anymore added. The garlic bread tasted good but not really worth $8 seeing as you get just one and no complaints about meatballs. Luckily the saving grace was the pizza for me. I ordered the Drunken love and it was awesome. It may not be the prettiest looking pizza but It had lots of flavors and I loved it. The Vodka Sauce macaroni tasted great but I felt it needed crushed red pepper to complete it. Grazie Nonna is more of a a nice little Italian spot but I think they should do a little better as far as customer service. 4.5 My friend and I had such a good time here. First, the aesthetic of the restaurant is fantastic. We sat outside, high-seat on the patio. There were hanging lights, surrounding a bar in the center, perfect lighting. (This is a great date spot). On to the food! We ordered the drunken love pizza which did NOT disappoint. Some of the best pizza I've had in DC (maybe second to L'Ardente only). The vodka sauce really makes the difference and it reheats really well. My friend ordered the vodka sauce pasta with shrimp and gave it a 5/5. I had the Sunday sauce which was really fabulous. The rib was extremely tender, the noodles were thick, perfect amount of cheese. I really loved it. We ordered a bianco negroni (lightly sweet and very good, I don't typically like a negroni but our waiter recommended and I loved this) and a Bellisima, both fantastic. This place was truly stellar. The noodles were a bit overcooked, but the sauce was tasty! Our server however was very rude from the very beginning. Came on a Thursday evening around 6:30 and the restaurant was packed. The ambiance in the main dining room was vibrant and popping aka a little crowded and loud. I was alone so was able to grab a seat at the bar soon, but would recommend a reservation if you prefer a table or are dining with others. I unfortunately sat at the spot next to where bartenders put the drinks, so I had to constantly lean to the side for the servers to take or return the glasses. There wasn't much of a service at the bar. It was on the bartender to serve water, take orders, and get the check. I also don't think they offer complementary bread but there is a deliciously looking garlic bread on the menu. I had high expectations for the food, which turned out to be not bad but didn't quite match the hype on social media. I got the Burratta with Panzanella and tomatoes as the starter. Nothing too special but I enjoyed it - creamy burrata in a tangy vinegarette dressing and crunchy croutons. The vodka sauce pasta was the main reason I came here. Love the choice of Mafalde pasta, so good for holding on to the sauce. The sauce was a creamy and cheesy tomato sauce, not bad at all but after the first few bites, I found it a little boring and one-dimensional, not the Carbone-level rigatoni vodka. I recently went to Grazie Nonna for dinner because a friend from DC recommended it to me. I was thrilled to dine somewhere that wasn't known to be super touristy that seemed to be a huge hit with the locals. I don't know if my expectations were a bit too high, but sadly this was mainly a miss for my boyfriend & I. The restaurant itself isn't very fancy, but I still felt it to be quaint and cozy. The candelabras decorated with melted wax scattered everywhere were a creative touch. I read a few reviews prior to arriving and noticed quite a few stating that the service was lackluster and not very friendly, of which I unfortunately have to agree with. While nobody was particularly rude, I can't say that the service stood out or was memorable. When I received my drink order (an aperol spritz), we couldn't help but stare at it with confusion. I order aperol spritz's just about everywhere I go and this is the first time one was served to me that barely looked orange. When I mean barely, it looked as if they added the aperol using an eye dropper. I asked our server if i could have more and it was returned to me looking about the same. I felt uncomfortable asking for more again or complaining, so I just dealt with it, but I just could not understand why they were being so cheap with the aperol because this was literally the first time I encountered this issue anywhere. I would have been willing to pay extra for a proper aperol spritz (although I shouldn't have to since every other restaurant seems to have figured it out). Moral of the long story: either don't order an aperol spritz here unless you don't want to taste any aperol. While our experience with the food was more positive, we were not blown away like we imagined we would be. For a whopping $8 you're served one slice of garlic bread (it was delicious, but they could have given 2 to justify the price). The meatballs were enjoyable and flavorful. My boyfriend enjoyed his pizza (it was served a little burnt), but said he's had better. My pasta was alright, but a little underwhelming and the noodles were undercooked (harder than al dente). I really expected more and it was a little disappointing. I can see the attraction to Grazie but I have to admit, I'm not sure what all the hype is about. If a friend asked me where to have an outstanding Italian meal with top notch service, gorgeous ambiance and ridiculously delicious food, I'd be directing them to RPM, where we went the first night of our trip to DC and truly had a mind blowing experience. read more

Finally got my hands on this pizza and it was definitely worth the wait. I got the Drunk in Love pizza without the pepperoni, what I loved most besides the vodka sauce was how fresh the basil was. I got the Limoncello Sour and was disappointed by how tiny it was, you could probably finish it in one gulp. Mind you for $14. Though I was solo I was not forgotten, my waitress was very attentive throughout the night. This is a beautiful location also, the patio looks like it would be a good time in the warmer months. I want first to take the time to thank the Nonna that inspired this place as she provided such a tasteful and fun culinary journey. I was here for a friend's birthday and we did a chef's tasting menu (must contact them about it) which included a variety of appetizers, salads, pizzas, pasta, entrees, and desserts. For 82 dollars a person (including our tax and tip), this experience was worth it. Some highlights of the meal were - The appetizers. Omg, I legit would've been content if we stopped here. We got the calamari which was some of the best I've had. You could tell that squid was just plucked from the ocean, and that garlic aioli... divine. The Nonna platter provided a great set of options to go with the bread, and the arancini had an interesting flavor palate (in a good way) as the marsala sauce was a bit sweet. - Their garlic bread. Get it. Words can't describe how much I loved it. - Bone-In Ribeye. It glistened, the fingerlings were also good, and the jus all over it made the meat so tender and flavorful. - Broccoli Calabrese. I am not a big broccoli person but I absolutely loved this, flavorful and fresh. - There is like a biscotti panna cotta dessert. I legit ate 2 of them at the table by myself. GET IT. Grazie Nonna screams fresh at everything. About all the good was amazing, my only notes on it were the pizzas weren't my favorite (but I think i am just a snob for 99-cent NY pizza) but everyone at the table raved about it. I was thinking something different for dinner. Italian and candles...how bad could it be? I got out of work and hit the metro, always a fun way to travel. Between the bums passed out, garbage everywhere, mysterious stains/ sticky floor of the car...I'm sure you understand. I get a text from a land line concerning my reservation. I can't answer a land line with my phone; it prompts a phone reboot. The message indicated if I didn't respond my reservation would be cancelled. Huh...??? I'm travelling toward Farragut north, off and heading up L st. The restaurant is a bit difficult to find but the loud music just brought me in. .I'm maybe 45 min early as the train took much less time than I planned. The place is about half empty. It's sunday night, a school night I can understand. Another message from the land line. Whatever. I grab a seat at the bar and order the birra antoniana before going to the washroom to wash my hands. I come back to a glass 3/4 full. Maybe it's a small bottle....big glass....Ok. I'm hungry. The pictures of the classic pizza looked good so I order with pepperoni. More people coming in and sitting down. I guess the salads are popular as the girls next to me and the couple to my right all had the salads. Eventually the pizza arrives sans a spatula to pickup a slice. Barmaid just shrugs and walks away. Ok...I'll figure it out. I basically slide the pizza of onto my plate. After a few slices I'm done. Not really good pizza. More cheese would be nice. A full glass of beer is a true thing to enjoy. Maybe it's your kind of place with the loud music and marginal service. I'll be off trying other places in the city. read more

We found Grazie Nonna after grabbing drinks next door at Dauphine's. It was a Saturday night so absolutely packed. Luckily we grabbed seats at the bar. The entire place is definitely small so highly recommend reservations! Believe they're on resy. We ordered the prosciutto and peas pasta, the aranchini and burrata app. All were perfect to share between two people. The pasta was so yummy - a lighter Alfredo type sauce but more flavorful than your traditional Alfredo. We loved everything we got and would absolutely return. read more

Love the food- but genuinely very disappointed by the service. Took a while for anyone to come up to us - to which they never apologized or explained . Because of this we decided to order drinks and Food all In one go. Drinks were watery by the time they got to us because we saw them sitting at the counter for 5 + minutes! Food was great but our server literally only came for our order and the check. Disappointing for such a quality restaurant to have bad service like that. read more

I kept seeing this place all over social media and decided to finally give in. I came for lunch on a Friday and had such a great experience. Everyone we encountered was super nice and service was 10/10. As for food, the supli appetizer (similar to arancini) was pretty good but I probably wouldn't get it again. The basil aioli that came with it though was soooo good. I ended up using it as a dipping sauce for my pizza crust and it went together perfectly. The drunken love pizza was also up there in my favorite pizzas. The crust stayed crispy which is something I always look for. I will say it was on the saltier side - probably because of the pepperoni - but was still good nonetheless. The vodka sauce was also pretty good and the pasta was cooked perfectly. We also got the frozen Bellini and it was went perfectly with the meal. Overall, this place has that homey feeling with a modern take on Italian food. I would 100% recommend and will come back soon! read more
