My husband stopped by for a basic state inspection and the most simple oil change for a car we barely ever drive. We drive an EV now & don't miss oil changes but the registration was quite overdue and required inspection. He had a good experience at the business that was here prior and didn't know it had changed to a Grease Monkey. Not only was the wait over two hours but when he asked for an oil change, the employee showed him a price list to select one and all the prices were illegible. He asked for the very most basic oil change, again because we so rarely drive that car. Imagine how shocked I was when I was working on our budget today and saw the entry for an oil change that cost $106.70!!! This car obviously did not require synthetic oil and you will see on the receipt it lists "FULL SERVICE SUPER SYNTHETIC" (Ahem, more expensive oil) as the selection. That sounds like the most opposite of what he asked for, "The most basic one you offer." Hmm, I would call that a scam. Not only that, but after the crazy long wait, when they finally told him the car was ready and he was about to drive off, they flagged him down because they'd realized they hadn't actually completed the inspection yet. After I asked him about the absurd cost, wondering if it might be a mistake on the part of Grease Monkey, he has tried to call them several times, but-surprise!!!- they're not answering the phone. Will you make this right, Grease Monkeys, are are you crooks? Per Kelley Blue Book: "Typically, an oil and filter change using conventional oil will cost between $35 and $75, depending on your area."

What would be the price for an oil and filter change for a Toyota Tundra. It takes 7 quarts of synthetic oil?

I agree with the other posts that the older woman who took the payment/completed the inspection was…read moreextremely rude and impatient (receipt said their name was Brenda). I guess since it's been going on long enough for this many reviews that customer service may not be their focus. It took about 40 mins for the inspection... without too many people in line. $11.50 emissions inspection fee $2.50 credit card fee (~5x the highest typical credit card processing fee of 4%)

BEWARE!!! AVOID!!! EXTREMELY RUDE WOMAN!!…read more I just moved here from Portland, Oregon. Simply just needed an emissions test. When I drove up I stayed two car spaces from the entrance, this woman saw me and waved at me to move away, it was a wave that says get out of the way. There are no signs posted anywhere that state what you need to do. Typically, when we drive up to an emissions place we simply get in a lineup at the entrance. After NO one came up to the vehicle and asked me to park, and come inside -- They just assumed you can read their minds. This woman completely ignored me and simply didn't even care. And mind you I drove up in a very reasonable looking vehicle, as you can see. So I end up parking and walking inside to find out what their setup was and what I needed to do. At this point the woman comes up to the counter and states very rudely " You have park and come up and show us the insurance" like she was doing me a huge favor. That was the attitude. So I simply said, " I don't think you need my business" and she say " Whatever that's fine" ... and I walk away looking for another place on my phone. All I can say is what a horrible first impression. She could be an employee or part owner, what this woman doing in this business I have no clue. All I can say in conclusion is that everyone should boycott this place. The final point is that if she is treating a person like that, how is she going treat your vehicle when you are not looking. I am sure the owner knows about her attitude, and doesn't give a damn. My advise, don't risk your vehicle. Thank you for reading. Gio

Let's face it. Finding out that you have a flat tire is like an emergency trip to the dentist…read more Well, we had a lot of places to go and things to see on our first beautiful day in weeks, and the wifey and I were hot to get the day going. We were going to a baseball game at The Longtime and to see a concert of Ryan Bingham, a country star who also threw down some George Thouroughgood and Delaware Destroyers for good measure. It was also bring your dog to the ballpark for a race in the seventh inning. The umpire out there is treated close to a god, which is unheard of among baseball guys. If you ever need an umpire, I can refer this one to you. I don't think he missed a call and on account of the fact he is exceedingly handsome, (my wife's words, not mine) the girlies couldn't stop talking about him! Back to the tire. I packed all the things I needed - a small cooler of Dr. Pepper and my hat. My wife packed what she needed. The make-up, the blush, the hair brush, the perfume, the hair ties, her I-Pad, two changes of clothes, a pair of dice, her small elegant night time purse and her larger daytime purse, and a mid-afternoon purse, complete with two breakfast bars, an extra emergency fold-out map of the United States in case we ever lose our GPS systems, two pairs of shoes, A Mrs. Potato Head (missing one arm) and an earthquake survival kit. It was only then that we realized our back-right tire was flat. My wife thought the car would ride better if we fixed the situation by flattening all of the ties for an even ride. I thought about that for about 1/16ths of a second and knew right away what to do. I got my can of fix-a-flat which turned out to be "fix a big fat lie" and my situation grew desperate. My next step ws to reach to the God of Tires, Desperatos, and just then I saw my trusty and far more handier neighbor next door. He put an air compressor to the tire and it blew right back up. But it was hissing like a rattler in the desert that had come upon a mongoose. We had limited time to save the day, and to get our tire over to Discount Tires in Kyle Texas where it could be given last rites by hospice and a new one could be born. The situation grew even worse because Discount is closed on the Lord's Day and we wouldn't be back from the concert until after they closed. This would entail us ubering from kingdom-come and with my wife having half the house with her, this was going to be a real challenge. But with our tire wheezing through its final breaths, there were no other options. Many people like us were already there, each having lived through their own shocking and sad stories as the tire mortician was getting ready to take them to the tire graveyard/recycling center. Our tire, as it turns out, had a razor blade imbedded within. (that tire hangs out with a rough crowd) We made complicated arrangements for my wife's son to go to the Discount Tires on I-35 in Kyle and pick up the car before 5. In this way, he could leave his beat-up work truck there and we'd Uber back to Buda after a long day of hooting and hollerin', we would Uber home to see our car there, along with my step-son. Surprise Surprise! A young man that should immediately meet my daughter, came out and said, "hey, if you wanna wait, I can get it done in 15 minutes!" (I think his name was Kelly, but I am bad with names) And - BETTER STILL! The tire that passed away was 100% covered so that my out the door cost was $28 and a NEW TIRE! We got our car THAT FAST. Discount Tires may have a Discount Name but it is anything BUT Discount in Service. In fact, I would say the philosophy of their manager, Justin, is to offer ELITE tire service, but with a DISCOUNT price. Maybe you should change your name to ELITE-DISCOUNT TIRE SERVICE. I would like to commend the staff of this place as everyone - although young - were professional and polished. I'll come back to get my front two tires replaced! My wife wants to learn how to rotate tires, which if you ask me, makes her even hotter than she already is. But - THE BEST SERVICE at any place in Austin, bar-none. I would bring my car here just to admire all the other cars who get new tires, THAT'S how good this place is!

However, in Texas Discount Tire makes its bread and butter from these unkempt roads! (lol) As such, finding and scheduling an appointment was easier than I've ever encountered. Expecting the next appointment to be a few days, at least out, I was overjoyed to get my vehicle in the next morning at 9am - and it was 2 minutes from where we live! When I pulled up to the store; it was busy! I've never seen a discount tire so popular before, but I was greeted the moment I walked in by everyone in a red shirt and even greater than that - I was checked in; assisted; vehicle inspected; and key turned over within no more than 15 - 20 minutes. Johnathan was patient as I tried to explain, horribly, my exact issue. He was able to settle my nerves by letting me know the tire was very likely reparable. Beyond that, a first for me at any service shop - he inspected my windshield wiper blades, informed me of their condition, and offered a possible replacement. My husband and I returned to running errands but my vehicle took less than 30 minutes to repair and have prepared for me. When I entered the store; due to the repair being FREEEE (lol) Johnathan approached me at the back of a 3 person deep line and handed me my key. Not having to stand and wait to be given my car key and be told to have a great day means a lot more to a busy bee than most appreciate. Thank you Johnathan, for taking care of my baby so diligently! To your manager; give that child an extra PTO day! That place looked like a buffet in Seattle on a Sunday afternoon - it was the middle of a Wednesday (haha)
