Do not go to this location! They just scammed me out of my money. When I arrived I told the staff I had a groupon for an oil change, tire rotation and brake inspection. He said ok. After they completed my service they told me they didnt accept coupons. I even said it again once I got inside and he told me we will take care of it at the end. This is my go to spot for oil changes! They are very efficient and respect your time. Usually I get the deluxe oil change, so they check all of my fluids, filters, wipes, and vacuum the front seat. The waiting area is cleaner than most mechanic shops. It's not super greasy in here and the restroom is clean. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. Sometimes commercial mechanic shops can be pushy, but they aren't pushy at all. The staff wear masks and gloves which is good to see during CoVID season. They also social distance when checking you in. After each oil change they give you a basic diagnostic of your car, so that you know what to look for moving forward. read more

If I could give ZERO stars I would. Do not trust them to work on your car. It will cost you more in the long run! It seems like the job that needed to be done wasn't something the full Service tech wanted to do. I even had an appointment on the books, dropped off car first thing. Never heard back from them I finally reached out and to them in the afternoon (appt for 8 am), it seemed they really didn't want to do the job. They didn't listen to what I had to say and came back stating it was something different and easier to get to. Yet the other issue is still a thing. I tried them out of convenience, now I have a car that is not fixed after they had it for a day and found out they never even looked at it! But I decided to give this place another shot. Literally the best shop around. I seriously wish I could give them ten stars. I'm from out of State, and my rear rotor was rubbing on the backplate on my car. ( a Mechanic In NY screwed up a wheel bearing change and bent the back plate) I drove to 3 shops on a Saturday only to be turned away from anyone even looking at it. Then I drove here. Excellent customer service. They got me in in ten minutes with no appointment, they looked at the rotor, and they repaired the backplate so it wasn't rubbing and making noises. They only charged me 20 dollars for the repair and I was out in no time. Seriously, give these guys your business. Ask the boss to give them all a raise. Heck, Write to congress and tell them to give them free healthcare. They definitely deserve it. read more

I was weighing some of my options on where to get my Oil Changed: Tuffys, Jiffy Lube, Pep Boys, etc then I finally decided on Grease Monkey b/c it was close to the Target I was shopping at. The rep at the front of the desk was very helpful and knowledgeable about the entire process and made sure to ask ME questions so she knew what exactly I wanted and what my budget was. I was planning on getting just a simple oil change but the rep (Jessie) informed me that their oil changes here come with: tire rotations, fluid checks, vacuum/window clean, air tire check, etc. I was immediately sold b/c I was going to inflate the air in my tires on my own and clean the car myself; why not get everything done all in one place!! She suggested that I get my air filter replaced too because it was dirty/slightly clogged and recommended that I get the upgrade to the high mileage oil change b/c I had over 130,000 miles on my car. I agreed and it sounded like the right option. Everything she mentioned that would be performed on my car came to a total of like $65 dollars which I think was reasonably priced. It took about 45 minutes to get this all completed. Although I think the last 15 mins I was standing around for no reason because they actually never told me my vehicle was finished..BUT, they were busy so maybe I'll cut them a little slack. I'll most likely come back here if i need any future repairs/maintenance on my vehicle. read more

My elderly mother went here for her state inspection. She said they told her it failed and suggested $1000 worth of work that needed to be done before it could pass.. She told me she felt the man she was working with at Grease Monkey was taking advantage of her and she left with her failed vehicle. I got the car and took it to Allen Tire, and it passed just fine, and didn't even bring up the issues he said she needed to fix. I get so tired of service people taking advantage of the elderly. I've gotten several oil changes. The price is unbeatable. I always call several places to compare price and Grease Monkey has them beat. Now I'm going on a road trip and I called a few places to request quotes on a "trip check". Again, Grease Monkey prevails! AND they are always extremely kind and welcoming. Another thing they do, that I love, is educate me about what they are going to do for my car (if something unexpected needs to be done, ask me before doing it then charging me) on the flip side they explain everything once they finish up with my car. I've been a customer at this location for a few years and there's always been quality customer service, as everyone goes the extra mile to be accommodating and caring. However, yesterday I arrived for regular oil change and as I pulled in noticed that my "low tire pressure" light had just appeared. Upon further investigation, Jermaine found a HUGE, HORRIBLY UNSAFE issue with one of my tires. Jermaine then showed me the tire, gave me options to repair it, and even offered to change it for me. I thanked him and vowed to get it repaired/replaced. Upon my exit yesterday, ALL of the staff were overly caring and wished me well. To top off such a beautiful experience, I received a follow up call from Jermaine TODAY to be sure that I was safe and that the issue had been resolved. I took my vehicle (2012 Chrysler 200 Touring) into this local grease monkey on 6/24/2019; a Monday for a simple oil change "4.6Qt 5W20 Conventional" (waited this long to do a review to see if they'd correct the problem *they didn't*)...I got my car back in about 45 minutes; perfect. I went home, car sat for the night the next morning I go to head into work and my engine is "ticking" (NOTE: It did NOT have a tick when I took it into the shop the day before; continue reading) I called up grease monkey that day and requested the manager to call me as he was busy; didn't hear from him. I called again Wednesday (2 days after the service) I talked to the GM and he told me to bring it by. After he checked it out; they proceeded to drain the new oil, and replaced 3.6Qt with 10w30 and 1Qt of Oil Additive. He said drive it around IF it is still ticking on Saturday 6/29/19 to bring it back, So I did. Once he checked it Saturday, he told me to keep driving it and he would talk to the owner and see if we could come to an arrangement on either getting it fixed, or something. As this is my ONLY daily driven car I proceeded to drive it to and from work, and to pickup/drop off my son from school. The GM went on vacation the following week and was unavailable. So July 8th, 2019 comes around and I'm still driving it, it's still consistently ticking, not getting any worse. The GM gets back tells me to get an appointment with another shop to diagnose the issue. I called around and earliest I could get it in was July 12th. Low and behold with my 5 year old son in the backseat on Powhite South at 5pm going about 55mph my engine makes a loud *Clunk*, I hear a noise like marbles are in my engine and then engine shuts off; while going 55mph, I merge over to the shoudler/slow lane and stop; being I'm less than a mile from my house I attempt to start it it starts but sounds horrible, and has little power. I get it to my house and attempt to check it out; not leaking any fluids or anything...... Needless to say I reach out to Grease Monkey and explain the issue to them, Of course they deny everything. Finally on 8/27 I get the e-mail to the owner Mr. and Mrs. Koval, asking them if they received my documents of me having to buy a replacement engine and having that installed. They reply back saying they received the information and what I would like them to do. I explained that I'd appreciate some sort of compensation for the ~$2000 I had to put into my car after visiting this establishment, they replied with can you explain with what failure happened internally to my engine; I told them to call the shop that had replaced my engine and told me that cheaply produced oil usually caused this type of failure and gave him the number to the shop. I didn't get a response for almost A MONTH so I attempted to reach out again, letting them know I will be writing a review on every platform available regarding their shop. His response was "Legal Action" His Quoted Response is as follows: "Of in 40 years of automotive repairs (as well as business) as well my asi certifactions,nerver heard ever heard using a thicker oil in a 20 year old car as well as having close 200,000 miles would cause engine failure , so if your mechanic is indicating that please bring him to court with you." (Mind you I have a 2012 Chrysler 200 *at the time* having 145,404 Miles upon servicing; So a 7 Year old car, with close to 150,000 Miles) After I got that I googled "will thicker oil hurt my car" and the first thing that pops up is an AmSoil* link stating "*Not only that, but the engine will waste energy pumping the thicker motor oil, reducing fuel economy. Since thicker oils don't transfer heat as well as thinner oils, operating temperatures will increase, too, possibly leading to accelerated chemical break down and harmful sludge and deposits.*" My last e-mail on Sept 26, 2019 was never responded to to this day 2/28/2020. I only went for a Virginia inspection sticker, so I can't give a thorough review. But I have to say I was very impressed by everything about this garage. Everyone who works there has a great sense of humor and is incredibly friendly. I also saw several things that I thought were terrific signs. They squeezed me in for an inspection at an odd hour, which I really appreciated. They were the only garage around willing to do so. They immediately made me comfortable as I waited, offered me refreshments, and even gave me the remote control to the TV in the lobby. As I waited for my car, another gentleman was getting his car inspected. The mechanic actually brought out the air filter and showed it to him, explaining that he needed a new one. I have never had a garage actually show me the old filter. You usually have to just take their word for it. Then someone else was told they needed some new wipers. When they asked if it was necessary to pass the inspection, the mechanic was honest. He said no, but it would be a good idea to replace them. It's little things like this that build trust in the garage. I have many experiences at many garages, and honestly like this is not usually forthcoming. We went for a quick, decently-priced oil change with excellent customer service! I was very pleased with how quickly the team worked. The prices were reasonable and the manager explained things to us very clearly. He talked to us about standard vs. synthetic oil. The place had a steady flow of customers but we were in and out in no time. There was a flat screen TV, coffee, and bottled water available. There are magazines and an art easel for the wee ones. I have very positive things to say about Grease Monkey on Staples Mill - I get all my "car work" done there. I have never needed a large repair, but they've done probably 6 oil changes, brake work, 2 car inspections, and auto window work for me. They work quickly and at very reasonable prices. When I don't understand what is needed, they take the time to really show me and run me through exactly what's going on. When I decline to get the suggested service done that day, they don't pressure me in any way. When I've had work done that they've done a price quote for, they've always come in under their "budget" - always by doing the work quicker than expected. The staff is professional and kind - they really look out for the customer - even added free wifi, free beverages, a cable television, and work stations with all types of charging cords. There is also nice outdoor seating. One more story to show how great these guys are - one evening when getting out of my car, I noticed a poor unfortunate bird flew into the grill on my car, died, and was stuck. Without getting too graphic, I'll just say that he was stuck hard...I tried to remove with a wood broom handle, at the car wash, driving highway speeds...nothing. I was finally so distressed that I took the car to Grease Monkey. No call, no appointment, just drove up. The guys were totally professional - one of them took care of my problem right away. No laughing or any unpleasant commenting (and I wouldn't have minded a little ribbing!). When I asked what I owed them, they just waved me away and said they were happy to help. Until today, I've never had a problem at Grease Monkey on Staples Mill. But today, while I was waiting for my coolant system to be repaired, I was offered a free loaner car while waiting an hour for a part to be delivered. I asked if I could take MY car to run an errand until the part was delivered, and was instead offered a loaner--"just bring it back with the same amount of gas," the employee told me. I drove a total of 7.25 miles. Then I was charged $15 dollars when I brought it back. The employee was shocked I brought the loaner back so soon, and only charged me $10 for it. No one checked the gas gauge--apparently this type of bait and switch is typical. He DID give me $5 off, but it does show up on your receipt as RENTAL CAR. That is NOT how the loaner was explained to me, and that is NOT how a responsible business would present its services. read more

This place is a "well-oiled" machine, to use a pun. They're always super fast and informative, while not pushy. They do good work and there's usually a coupon you can take advantage of. They're always polite and helpful and the waiting room is a nice area to stay while they work. The outside "lounge" is great on a nice day. They topped themselves today when they fit my car in 15 mins before closing to change out my flat tire. If they hadn't, I would have had to wait a day and be stuck at home with only my spare tire. I have been going to Grease Monkey on Staples Mill Road for 3 years now. The work is good, the service is great, and the atmosphere is always pleasant. They have never done anything to my car that I have not requested AND they ALWAYS ask me first before doing additional repairs. Being a woman who is NOT interested in cars other than how to gas up and go, I appreciate the time that they spend explaining what preventive maintenance I need, even repeating the technical stuff if I don't understand it the first time. First I've been going to the Grease Monkey for inspections and oil changes for a couple of years. NO MORE. 1/27/18 I arrive at 7:30 am (30 minutes before opening) so I'd be sure to get in first thing. I am checked in and told I'd be the first one in at 8. Well, my car didn't get in for it's inspection until 8:45. There were others there for inspections as well and we were told they were trying to get some of the 30 minute oil changes in first even though they came in much later. All this time I am waiting and see people come and go and each one was told that they "needed" something repaired. Hmmm. Well I finally see them working on my car. When finished, they move it out front and I wait another 30 minutes to find out they rejected the car for an exhaust leak, that carbon monoxide would get into the cabin. Interestingly enough, for my rescue work, I sit in my car sometimes for over an hour with it running and have had no ill effects. I tell them to reject it and I'd take it to my regular mechanic. I got a frown. I sit another 30 minutes and I finally ask they guy if I could check out. Meanwhile they checked in/out several customers. I finally raise my voice and when I mentioned I'd be the "first one in" the same guys tells me he has no control over the timing, and I asked him "Why did you tell me that?" He had no answer. Choose another location! I cannot say how disappointed I am In This place service. My car needed an inspection and an oil change. So I went over to my local grease monkey and had the work done. I usually do my own minor work, but due to time constraints had them do the oil change. It turns out my car needed brakes, rotors and some wiper blades to pass inspection. I could do the work myself so I chose to get the rejection sticker and paid the inspection fee, do the work the following day and bring it back. I took the car back and was told because they met their quota of eight for the day they couldn't look at it. To bring it another day.... Like many people I get to work earlier than their opening time. If I come after work during the week there is no guarantee they haven't already met their said quota.... this makes no sense. My only option according to them was dropping my car off in the morning... They're not open on Sunday so I called another grease monkey on the other side of town to see if I could have someone look at it then. (They open on sundays) They said sure but since it's another store they'd charge a second inspection fee all over again. If I didn't want to pay twice I had to bring it back to initial store.... and btw i asked about this eight per day cap on inspections. The other store manager had never heard of such a thing! Their store doesn't have those! So I tried to give the staples mill location another chance and called them back. I explained my predicament with not being able to drop off the car. I also said that due to their quota policy I could show up after work and get the same story every day of the week. That would leave me driving around with a rejection sticker waiting for a cop to pull me over... Their response: sorry can't help you. Drop the car off in the morning. Unbelievable! I explained the inspection was done! I needed wiper blades and brakes. They were changed and confirming that they he been would take five minutes and that I was not asking for another inspection. I asked if I could drop the car off today (Saturday) and if the inspector could at the end of the day just confirm those two changes. So the front desk guy said he'd ask the inspector. He got back in the phone and said the inspector said he wouldn't do it.... The way I see it... they got their money for said inspection already... they rejected it and confirming whether the things they needed fixing were done was additional work they were not gonna make any time adjustments for. So rather than hve the guy step outside and lean over to check the wiper blades and lean down to check the breaks.... nah. "Drop the car off". What absolute horrible customer service! What a sad way of running a business. Just gonna pay to have inspection done a second time elsewhere. Way too much of a head ache to deal with this and never going back to that place again. Response to manager: "Doesn't come close to covering the inspectors time?" So you expect me to believe you are doing the local Richmond community a favor and losing money with every inspection? Inspect the car again? The inspection was done and I paid for the amount of time it took to do it. Two items failed and the only thing needed is to check those two. Not a 45 minute ordeal. Look at wipers and look at brakes... done. And I don't expect for you to do it on the spot and bump anyone else. Which is why I offered to leave the car and see if you guys could step out at the end of the day look at those two things and give me the sticker. I don't feel that is an unreasonable request. Btw. The original inspection performed by your technicians along with an oil change took no more than half an hour. And if you feel having your inspectors do inspections barely covers the cost. Then don't do inspections. Plenty of shops don't offer them while offering other services. Having a customer pay you to do an inspection is a business transaction not a handout or a favor like you're implying. Keep the 16 dollars. I consider it money well spent to find out where not to take my vehicle. read more

Don't go there for a state inspection! My brake pads and rotors needed replaced which apparently was a $350 fee, which when I went to my regular automotive guy and he did the work, he said I was getting ripped off if I had gotten the repairs done there. Further, they failed my year old tires only on the right side of my car which look the same as the tires that passed on the left side. Then they failed my wiper blades which were only a week old. My experience was frustrating and more trouble than it was worth and as a result I will never go back there for anything. read more

This was a positive experience at gease monkey and this is usually not the case. I had good experiences with the shop on Boulevard but it has closed so we tried a different one. They of course came out to everyone with their air filter to get them to replace it and one lady actually fell for it. My filter was white and clean but they still suggested I get a new one. Then they recommended a octane Booster which is unneeded. However when I told him I would change the filter myself there was no pressure which was a surprise. But they did a good job so overall it wasn't a bad experience. read more

I really wish there was a no star option because this place does not deserve a star at all! I went to the staples mill location to have my vehicle inspected and I left it there as I had an appointment and couldn't stick around. I dropped it off around 9:30am then received a call around 2pm with the safety inspector telling me I needed a repair for around $700. Now- you'll have to take into consideration that I was having a BMW inspected and I also have a Benz that was present at the time of drop off because of course I needed a 2nd driver to be able to leave the car there. When people with no business ethics and zero integrity see people with nice cars, they automatically assume they have money, so of course they tried to squeeze $700 out of me, instead of $16 which would have been the price for inspection. I also need to point out that I recently moved from NY to VA and in New York the car recently had a safety and emissions inspection without any issues. The car wasn't even driven more than 20 miles since that inspection as I had the car towed here on a lift. All of a sudden, I bring the car to their shop and they find something wrong with the car? Ok- so you think that's it.. it's not. The safety inspector removed my NY safety sticker and my NYS registration sticker which is placed on the windshield. The inspection from NY was perfectly valid and the registration is still valid and won't expire until 2016. When I asked for it back, the safety inspector told me to dig in the garbage for it and that it's in several pieces. So disrespectful! Maybe the policy is to remove the safety inspection, they had no right to remove my registration and discard it especially because I still have NY plates on the car. Complete craziness!! This place is so unprofessional and I was really shocked that people treat customers this way. The worse part is yet to come- the safety mechanic pulled a piece of my car and then verbally told me that's the reason it wouldn't pass inspection. It's was a coil spring- so of course I need that in order to go to another place to have it fixed. Please- save your money. These people are crooks and try to take advantage of their customers. I think for small jobs, they probably do okay work, but when they see opportunity they totally take advantage and that's completely unethical and so disappointing that people stay in business with these types of practices. I visited this location on Saturday, 8/5/2016.I had just been in an accident and needed a headlamp replacement. I purchased a headlamp, and only needed service for someone to install it for me, as I was out of town and short on time to do it myself. For the pluses, service was quick, although they had a fair amount of people there. I was in and out in less than a hour. It was open Saturday, which is always a plus, and body labor rate was about 90/hour. Though almost exactly double the rate of Atlantic Auto @1809 Roane St. I gave it a pass because the dealership I usually take my car to is just slightly cheaper but closed on weekends. If you have a problem with the service, talk to them and they will try to make it right. read more

Do not rely on this Grease Monkey to do everything in the 'Full Service Oil Change' package that costs you $47. They DID NOT put air in our tires!!! This is a serious safety issue. The pressure was supposed to be set to 40 PSI on our SUV. We got the oil change just before leaving Richmond to drive to Pennsylvania. In PA we had our tank filled by a service station where they visually noticed our tires were low. ALL FOUR TIRES WERE UNDER 30 PSI. I am getting too old to get on my knees and check the pressure. otherwise I would do this myself. Who knows what else they claim to check but do not. Don't go here. read more
