I'm a former employee at the Great American Ranch. I went back to my full time job as a Private Security Officer after being on personal leave for over a month. Just needed to make a little extra cash to get by. The number 1 reason I left is because some customer had apparently made 4 complaints against my girlfriend when me and her were having some drinks on my night off. After that 4th complaint, the manager came marching through the restaurant like there's a fight happening in an unprofessional manner disrespecting my gf right in front of me. Didn't say anything nice about the situation nor did he ask politely. In my honest opinion, he doesn't have good customer service, no leadership, etc. Idc how long he's been in the customer service gig. I told him that 1 customer made those complaints, if it was multiple customers then me and my gf wouldn't have problem. Grant it, it really did piss me off. I also could point out some violations that the Virginia Department of Health and the Virginia Department of Alcoholic and Beverage Control would love to check out, but that's none of my business. So yea, I'm back at my original job. TGAR was just Temporary. read more

Excellent service but overpriced mediocre food. Staff is friendly and attentive but that is basically where the positives end.

They have some horrid rude shrew up front who is a manager. God was she rude bc they were busy. Not just to my family but pretty much everybody. She barks at the servers. Bar staff was lovely. Called in the afternoon about last called for food and games like mechanical bull. Was told they do last call at 1:30am and the have the bull. When I get here 9pm they only have appetizers available and mechanical bull is not working. Super disappointing and wish the person communicated that their food became a limited menu, and that their bull was not working. Howdy ya'll! If you are like me and have been looking for a country themed restaurant in the Richmond area, then Great American Ranch is for you! However, if you are not a "country" person, have no fear because you are still welcome here! I have been here a total of six times now with friends and there are several reasons that all of us continue to come back! From the food, to the service, to the cleanliness, to the decor, Great American Ranch has nailed it each time! I'll start with what everyone is probably thinking, how is the food? Because they are a fairly new establishment, the menu does not contain as large of a list of menu items of a place like Cracker Barrel, but they do have a variety. The menu is about the size of a magazine cover with items on the front and back. The menu is easy to read though as it clearly outlines in bold heading things like 'BURGERS', 'TACOS', 'DESSERTS', and 'DRINKS'. Overall, a well organized menu and not a jumbled mess like other restaurants I have been to in this area. Unfortunately, if you are vegan/vegetarian the menu will be a little more limited but the waitstaff does a fantastic job at being able to accommodate and make guests happy. This is also one of the few restaurants where the waitstaff will not through a "hissy" fit if you have someone in your party that needs accommodations for food allergies. The mac & cheese is a personal favorite because it has just the right amount of cheese! It's not too gooey with cheese, but not underdone with the cheese either.The portion sizes are generous as each time I have had to have a to-go box, and so has almost everyone else in my party. I have already talked about how well the service is, but the staff deserves another "kudos". They are attentive to your needs by coming to your table with an honest smile and introducing themselves by their first name right after you are seated. As with most restaurants, you place your drink order first and then after your drinks are brought, it is time to order the good stuff! What is different with this restaurant is that your drink order is brought to you within 1-2 minutes and you are not stuck doing the old "turn around and look for my waiter and wonder where the heck my drink is at maneuver!" We have all done that at one time or another when going out to eat but it won't happen here! The staff is personable in that if you are having trouble trying to decide between two items on the menu, they will describe it to you and then tell you if they have had it and what it tastes like. Also, you will never have to ask for a refill on your drink because the staff is on top of that too! Only one out of the six times visiting have we had to wait about 20 minutes for our food, and that was only because it was a Friday night and the place was packed. Most of the time your food arrives within 10 minutes. It is also perfectly acceptable if you would like to just sit and chat with people because the waiters will not continuously bug you to hurry you out! The cleanliness and decor are also what makes this a "hot spot" because the staff is quick to clean a table after people leave and they actually wipe the table and chairs down properly (yes, there are people in the world that actually pay attention to that). The staff continuously sweeps the floor and wipes the hand and finger prints off of the front door as well to give it a good shine! It is obvious that whoever owns this establishment takes great pride in it. It is an honor to have a restaurant like this in our area! read more

Very disappointing - planned on the Mother's Day brunch with a group of 14 people and kids ... made reservations several weeks in advance. Called back twice including the night before Mother's Day to confirm the reservations - oh yes we were told, you are on the list. We showed up 10 minutes before the appointed time and were told we're not on the list ... WHAT?? The hostess even remembers speaking to us to confirm the reservation but to no avail. The manager didn't even want to come over to address the issue!! Finally when I stood directly in the manager's path did we get her attention ... then she stated that it was their mistake and they'd get a table in 15 minutes ... came and gone ... then the excuse was the buffet was backed up and people were not eating and leaving as quickly as planned ... 40 minutes after reservation time they said they had a table for us ... by now the kids are anxious and VERY hungry ... so they walk us back to a booth that sits 6 comfortably and 8 in a pinch! What are we supposed to do with the other 5 people in our party?!?! Things tumbled down from there ... we eventually left very unhappy ... the kitchen manager had come out on our request to hear us out ... he offered a minor tribute of a gift card for a future but that did little for a completely spoiled Mother's Day breakfast. Other than that my very few previous experiences at this place were that they have a very limited lunch and dinner menu and ho-hum service. NOT a family friendly place. Went for Mothers Day dinner (around 5:30 pm) party of 4 adults 4 children, hostess had a look of panic on her face and said I don't know where I'm going to put you and then sat us in a large dining room that was completely empty saying we usually only put groups in here, like she was doing us a favor. Waitress brought silverware and menus etc,( sorry don't have enough crayons for the kids but here's the coloring pages anyway) took drink orders ok no problem, after drinks arrived my daughter asked if she could change her drink from a soft drink to a adult beverage and was told well, yes but you still have to pay for the soda because I already brought it out here. so much for upselling. Waited over an hour for food, appetizer came out the same time as the food because " well, you ordered it at the same time as the food, sooo it comes out at the same time " Food was good except for 1 burger (was almost raw) and my bbq tacos , I had asked for the salsa verde on the side it was on the tacos, ( ok stuff happens ) waitress takes and says "its a easy fix" 15 minutes later, after the manager? checks on us , tacos come back, yep, cold. waitress wants to have them remade, at this point I'm not willing to wait for who knows how long, so I just decide to take them home. (The kids chicken fingers are more like nuggets but they don't care because they are hungry) So all in all we were there for almost 3 hours, no crayons, no refills, messed up orders and a total feeling like we were a bother! Next time we want to spend well over a hundred dollars, it will be somewhere else. ( Oh and the tacos I took home ?, the salsa was still on 1 of them so I guess they just scraped it off the other ones. and didn't bother to reheat them ) read more

I love this place!! It's great if you wanna have a fun family dinner or you wanna have some drinks with the gals on a Friday night! The music is great on the weekends and the staff is always happy and friendly. If you're more in the mood of special craft cocktail you can go on to the saloon side! And enjoy some pretty amazing drinks! They have quite the whiskey collection. And to sum it up the food is delicious!! Their brunch on Sundays takes the cake! read more

We went there for breakfast recently on a Sunday. When we walked in the only tables available were high top tables. We decided to wait for a booth as we didn't really want to eat breakfast at a high top. The staff was more than accommodating. We were handed menus and we both were shocked at the lack of options available. Maybe 10 things to choose from for breakfast... and NO GRITS??! This restaurant is trying so hard to be a "country bar/grill" and the one southern staple isn't on the menu? We ordered coffee and it came to the table cold, no spoons to stir the cold coffee and we quickly placed our order. The disappointment continued. The food was terrible. The eggs were cold the potatoes were overcooked and had no taste and the sausage - link and patty. At BEST it was McDonalds sausage! We were going to get a $7.00 Bloody Mary, but after the bad food we just paid for our overpriced breakfast and left. We will not return. The fake wood and atmosphere may be okay for the locals but I am from GA and this place is just an embarrassment to the southern culture! read more
