I am an out of state parent of a young adult woman who has moved to this area within the past 6 months. I would highly recommend Lenny and his shop for anyone looking to have work done on their car. My daughter has taken her car to his shop a few times for different issues. He has always been truthful with what he thought was wrong with my daughters car and even recommended her to confirm with a dealership that it was in fact the issue and if it was he would fix it for less. He is true to his word. Beware of Negligent Service - Serious Safety Concern I brought my car here for a simple oil change, and the mechanic cracked the inside threads of my oil pan while tightening the drain plug. Instead of being honest, they released the car back to my wife -- who drove it daily on the turnpike -- without warning. If the oil had leaked out completely, the engine could have seized, causing major damage or even a dangerous breakdown. When I confronted them, Lenny claimed they did nothing wrong, insisted they "do excellent work," and then charged her nearly $1,000 to repair the very damage they caused. My Lexus is only 5 years old with no prior issues -- and this shop has been the only place to perform oil changes since 2023. If you value your car, your money, and your safety, I strongly recommend avoiding this business. I am not normally the one responsible for bringing my car in for repair, my husband is - and most is the time he fixes it himself or a friend does it because he's in the industry. So why did I have to take my truck to Great Bear? Because in the day my husband when out of town, my tire had a nail in it - causing the tire pressure to drop to 7! I asked a friend where I should go and she recommended Great Bear. Great! Super close to the house. I knew where it was - as it was near my dog's vet. So I went there. From the moment I stepped in to the office I could tell things would go well. The staff was friendly. Juanita told me they were super busy and they may not get to the truck today. I asked if I could keep it there since I couldn't drive it again with the tire. She explained yes and if it was done tonight but I had to pick it up after hours they would send an email so I could pay and I'd get a code for a lockbox outside. How convenient! Dedric did intake on my truck and then offered to drive me home. He was very friendly and helpful. This morning I called to get an idea about the car being ready. Dedric was the person who answered the phone and he told me he would make sure the car was next in line. It was! He called to let me know it was ready and he could send me an online payment link so I could just grab the keys and leave. I told him I needed to find a ride. He said he could come pick me and would be at my house in 15 minutes. YAY! When I got there Juanita completed the transaction and my truck was in the same area where I dropped it off, so I didn't have to hunt for it. Easy peasy! They don't try to sell me more than needed. The tire was fixed and I didn't feel taken advantage of. My husband was happy that they didn't try to sell me a new tire because other than the stupid nail, the tire treads were perfect. We've taken our vehicle in twice for the same thing. Noise on start up and overheating (reaching temps of 230). The first time they said it was the water pump and changed it. Less than 3 months later the vehicle was reach temps of 240 and had the same noise on start up. They said it was a loose clamp and told us they never had it overheating....which has been happening every time it's being driven. This place is a racket. Was in a hurry so tried this place out for the first time yesterday because one my brake pads started grinding and needed replaced. This place quoted me $550 dollars for both rotors and brake pads to be replaced along with $1500 worth of additional repairs they said I needed. Told them I didn't have the money and to take my car down. That same day I go to my usual mechanic in Miami and replaced all rear brake pads and rotors for $190. I really had high hopes for this auto shop. I grew up in Weston and thought it would be a reputable place. I even went to AutoZone, and they referred me to this repair shop. As a woman going alone to get my car fixed, I was worried about being overcharged. I went in to get a diagnostic for my vehicle, and they tried to charge me $90 just to check one part of the car. My mother-in-law, who drove taxis for almost 30 years, spoke to the man upfront about how he was basically robbing me of $90 just to check one thing. He eventually agreed to charge me $50. They didn't even do anything to my car, and the diagnostic report was just one sentence of information. I ended up going to a family friend who is a mechanic, and he checked my car for free. He did multiple services on my vehicle for half the price of what they were asking. They were trying to charge me $400 to change my windshield wiper pump. It's such a shame, and the owner should be aware of this because they're going to lose customers. read more

FYI read the fine print on your warranty about hourly rates. They tend to limit it at 100. No one charges 100 anymore. The dealers charge over 200 and paying the difference is costly. read more

Today I was fortunate enough to have yet another fantastic experience with one of their representatives. Brandon, showed his true colors when he came out to my vehicle and inspected the nail that I was very upset, had been lodged in my tire. I was not looking forward to spending my Saturday, waiting for the repair, let alone the cost as it is an expensive tire. Brandon grabbed the nail with his hand and pulled it out of my tire and showed me that it had not gone through all the way, and since I was not losing air pressure that I had no problem and could just go home. Barry, Lenny & Jack made my car repair experience a pleasure! 3 months ago I brought my car in for its 45,000 mile check up. I was about to go to the dealer but Great Bear quoted me approximately $500 less so I took a chance (my sister and her husband come here all the time so they highly recommended I come here). They only changed the wear items that needed changing, which is what saved me the additional cost. I didn't need new air filters; they said mine looked brand new and some other items I can't recall at the moment. The BEST part is yesterday my car wouldn't turn over. I have a sensor that reads the problem when the check engine light goes on. It's called FIXD & I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT. It's saved me two times so far...that's a whole different story. Anyway, the code indicated it's my Crankshaft Position Sensor & it's severe & I must take it to mechanic immediately. I looked up the cost online, to be prepared. The cost said anywhere from $275-$600. Naturally, I came straight to Great Bear. I told them what my FIXD sensor displayed. They said it could be that or something more. Not liking to hear "or something more", I had no choice but to get my car repaired so I left it. The next day they called to tell me it's exactly what I said; the crankshaft position sensor & I must get an OEM part and the cost will be $238 installed. Im a happy camper! I decided to take my vehicle in to Great Bear after being recommended by a friend. My vehicle has a visible transmission fluid leak from the pan gasket so I originally brought my vehicle in for a transmission service which included a multipoint inspection. After having my vehicle serviced it seemed the issue was taken care of. I drive 60+ miles a day for work and once I returned home that day my vehicle was leaking transmission fluid from multiple spots. Lenny reached out to me and requested I bring the vehicle back in. I brought my vehicle in a few days later and was told they needed to remove and replace the neutral safety switch, I approved the service. After leaving that evening with my vehicle I drove 60+ miles again to find that my vehicle was still leaking transmission fluid. So after back and forth for a few days and almost 1000$ later my vehicle is still facing the original issue. I don't enjoy reporting negative reviews however after my hard earned money was spent on service that did not fix the original issue I have been left with a bad taste. The only way to grow is through feedback and the customer service at great bear is amazing, I received photographs and updates regarding my vehicle throughout the process however not once was I explained a detailed issue or service from a tech. It seems as if no troubleshooting was done and a visual inspection was the reason for me to simply spend my money. Unfortunately I doubt any sort of compensation can be made and the trust has certainly been damaged. Had my car towed to Big Bear after the brakes completely locked up and it would not move to save my life. I spoke with Lenny who explained they were very busy but would look at it as soon as they could. That next morning, I spoke to Lenny again who explained they diagnosed the problem as failed master cylinder, and they would get right on it. Next day they test drove the car three times and found everything to be satisfactory. I picked up the car and drove straight to Tampa. I just got back from Danny's Great Bear in Weston. I believe it was the owner I dealt with. Maybe Lenny was his name? In any case, frankly he blew my mind. I had a loose piece of cladding on my car's undercarriage. It was intermittently scraping the ground. Now, I don't even know if he'd want this publicized: BUT he was able to take me in and quickly fix the loose cladding with a tie. AND THEN HE DIDN'T WANT TO TAKE ANY MONEY. Was it a big job? No. Was the tie he installed expensive? Almost certainly not. But certainly he had to have one of his guys get in my my car and up on his lift, and both he and his guy had to look the car over, and then the mechanic had to install the tie. And of course he had to listen to me explain my problem first. And confer, even if briefly, with his mechanic. When I asked him what I owed him, he said "nothing, how much can I charge you for a tie, anyway?" -- meaning the tie itself that he installed was negligible in cost. And I'm sure that's true, but it's also nonsense: what he did was NOT sell me a fifty-cent part, what he did was SOLVE MY CAR PROBLEM. Ten stars. Certainly I'll go back and buy tires from him when the time comes. And I hope that his very decent way of doing business serves him well in garnering new business and referrals. I don't know if it does, but I'd like to think his nice way of doing business pays off in the long run. I could sit here all day writing nice stuff about this guy. read more

On June 21, 2003 I took my 2001 Lexus for an oil change after visiting two other places wanting to charge me over $115. Great Bear was extremely professional and courteous the entire time. Over the phone, they asked for vehicle specific information and then sent the quote for work to be done via text. We thought we could install ourselves but decided, relatively quickly, that we were in over our heads. For a very fair price we were able to make an appointment and have their crew install the device in a couple of hours. They were courteous, fair, and extremely competent. I will start by saying I am not a fan of auto repair stores. That being said I find Great Bear Auto to be above average in making me feel like I am getting an honest evaluation of what work is needed on my vehicle. Having maintained and worked on my own vehicles since i started driving I can and do perform most mechanical work needed. All but the really major stuff or things that are too complicated be done in my own garage. So when such dilemmas arise I go in search of a shop where I hope I can get an honest quote. Having a little automotive knowledge comes in handy in these situations. I was greeted promptly upon walking in and within a short time my vehicle was on the rack, the problem diagnosed and a quote given. No salesmanship here. Just what I asked for and no beating around the bush. The work is always completed in a timely manor and I have always been satisfied with it. On one occasion there was a minor problem that I discovered after I had picked up and driven home. I called immediately and even though it was past closing time a mechanic stayed until I could return so he could correct it. Now all that being said the only thing negative is the cost. Great Bear is not the cheapest in town. I would have to say they are at the top end if not the top of the price list. But I would like to believe in this case you get what you pay for. I will continue to do the majority of my own mechanical work but when the circumstances arise I will continue to consider Great Bear. This does not mean I will not shop around. But if I do choose them I will be comfortable knowing the job will be done right. Hoping you never need a mechanic but if your checking out this review I'm guessing it's too late. My car warning light was indicating low tire pressure on one tire. Of course this warning came one week after I had taken it to the dealership for a balance and rotation! I pulled into Great Bear expecting a nail in the tire which would require a quick patch and air (usually anywhere from $15-$30) but takes over an hour at some places. I went in and explained my problem. Barry came out, couldn't find a nail, took the tire off, stuck it in water and found small leak. He patched it, put air in it and put it back on my car all in less than 30 minutes! When I asked him how much I owed, his response was "Nothing. It's a courtesy we offer!" Needed a tire plug and had a hard time finding anyone. Firestone and Tire Kingdom will only patch mostly so they can sell you a new tire. Gave Great Bear Auto a call and the told me I could bring it in right away. 10 mins later my tire is fixed. They took care of me as soon as I arrived, had me pull up car to the garage and 5 mins later it was done. The kicker, NO CHARGE. FREE. They have a new customer. I will be back if I need an work done. I am a long time Weston resident. I recently brought my car in to a great Bear for an oil change. Afterwards, I was told that my brake pads, car battery and A/C filter all needed replacement. Over the next few weeks, I discovered this was simply not true. Auto Zone tested my battery in front of me and it read perfectly fine. I went to a reliable car repair shop in Hollywood that advised my brake pads and A/C filter were also perfectly fine. I called Great Bear Automotive to have sparkplugs replaced in my 2010 Ford Expedition. The engine is a V8 5.4 triton engine and the sparkplugs are very difficult to replace. Due to the difficulty to replace the sparkplugs it can be very costly. I called Ford for a price and they said it would cost about $750.00 to replace the sparkplugs. I called other local places and the cost was $650.00 to $750.00. Great Bear gave me a quote of half of what everyone else was. In addition, they said they only use factory replacement Motorcraft sparkplugs. I was at the counter while they called to order the sparkplugs, it was not just one call. They took the time and called around to find the best price. Customer service like this is hard to find these days. When I need auto repairs or service I will not be calling around for the best price, I'm just going to Great Bear. read more

Consistently great Bear auto repair in Weston has diagnosed my car correctly never tried to talk me into doing something that wasn't necessary ,as a matter fact I just went in for an oil change Lenny told me that my rear brakes were going to need to be done soon to keep that in mind. Lenny said bring it in Monday when you bring your car in. When I got there today and tried to use the coupon the gentleman said that's for 1st responders only...No where on the website or anywhere does it say for 1st responders...it does say special for Covid 19 ... Brought my jeep in because the driver side rear wheel had a burning smell to it. When they checked the vehicle they said there was nothing wrong with it. Drove the jeep a couple more times and could still smell the burning. I brought the jeep back in and Lenny took a heat gun to the back tire and found the rear brake pad was sticking and it was 475 degrees. I asked him why the original technician didn't do the same test especially since I said there was a burning smell. He didn't have an answer for me. If this is what you do for a living wouldn't any of the technicians do the same test with the heat gun and not tell me that I probably ran over a plastic bag. Because they didn't test this the first time I ended up having to replace the rear tire sensor and what a coincidence the ABS sensor is now broken. They did a good job on putting new calipers in. Luckily I didn't drive it too much further before I brought the jeep back or I would of done more damage to my jeep with their miscalculation. When I got home after their repair (replace rear caliper) the next time I started the car (the next day) my tire sensor light and ABS sensor light came on. Lenny hooked up his portable computer and told me that the rear tire sensor was bad and that the ABS code popped up and that the ABS Module had to be replaced. He kept the jeep to do the repair on the rear tire sensor and then charged me $189 (discounted to $153) for checking out the ABS. The problem I have with Great Bear is that they should of diagnosed the initial heat problem on the brake since I told them I could smell something burning on that exact wheel. Then I wouldn't of had all the other damage to the sensor and module ($1800 to fix). The other problem I have is that Lenny charged my $153 to check something that he said the technician had to diagnose when actually he found it in 10 seconds when he hooked up the portable computer. I have been to 2 other local shops that found the same faulty code for the ABS module and they didn't charge me anything!!! Jeep doesn't have any ABS modules in stock and they won't be in stock until Marxh 2024. Lenny told me he could find a refurbished one and that it would cost a minimum of $1500 dollars and that their vendor would take my old one. I found one myself and they said they couldn't install an aftermarket part. What? You just told me that you were putting in an aftermarket part!!! Talk about taking advantage of your customers. Very disappointed in the way they handled my situation. I don't mind spending money to get something fixed but not when a company trys to nickel and dime a good customer, especially when they misdiagnosed the problem or should I say didn't even diagnose the extreme heat/burning on the rear wheel.
