There was a review made recently I want to comment on: 1. The review complains about calling at 5:40pm (20 minutes before closing btw) to see if they can get squeezed in, and they got seated at 6pm. The shop closes at 6pm, meaning they accommodated for you after hours yet you still complain. 2. I've been going to Ana/Helen for 9+ years. It has NEVER been $40. They have always been priced very fairly and have never overcharged me or any other patrons I've seen while waiting, so the comment about being charged extra simply isn't true. 3. Ana & Helen are some of friendliest, personal, and professional haircutters you could have. I have always been taken care of and made sure I liked my haircut. Come here for a great cut at a fair price, and don't write a complaint about not getting instant gratification when calling in 20 minutes before closing :) read more

Most people seem to have had a positive experience here, but unfortunately mine was not. I called around 5:40, about 20 minutes before closing, to see if they could fit my son in for a haircut. They asked us to come in earlier, which I did, but we still ended up waiting until 6:00. The whole appointment felt rushed from start to finish. My son only needed a simple cleanup on the sides and a trim on top, but the haircut came out looking sloppy and uneven. To make matters worse, the price was significantly higher than other barbers in the area. I don't remember the exact amount since it's been a couple of months, but it was over $40 for a young boy's haircut. For that price, I expected much better quality. I'm very, very picky about how my hair is cut and styled and find that Great Cuts on Geary is exemplary. I went for the first time today and had to wait for an hour but it was worth it. They take time and care to make sure that each haircut is excellent. Their tools are new and in great shape. One lady came in and her stylist asked what she wanted. Funny story: As soon as I got my haircut, the guy next to me points at my hair and says "I want a cut like that one". Haha! Solid testimony to the quality of the haircut I got. The claim is the name is pretty bold, but it's surprisingly fitting. After several okay haircuts at other barber shops, Great Cuts was a big relief. It's decently-priced, the barber is very friendly, and the haircut was great! (hah, pun intended) I asked for shorter sideburns, without really knowing what looks good. I usually just ask for "shorter". I also don't have particularly fancy metrics for a "good" haircut -- just whether or not it's balanced and if my hair sticks up randomly after blowdrying. And this barber seemed to know this. Most barbers will wet and style your hair so you walk out feeling A+ (but cry a little bit after your shower and blowdry). By contrast, she dried my hair at the end to check that my hair wasn't strangely lumpy, and I really appreciate that. There were many other small details too: The barber made casual, small talk every so often without forcing it. She cut in layers and checked on length frequently. Being completely clueless, I also asked for her to cut it however she saw fit, and I was really happy with the result! Some other "logistics": There are no reservations. Sign in, in-person, when you arrive. There was a maybe 1 hour wait. I really really wish I remembered the barber's name; I asked for her name and now that I've waited too long to write my review, I've forgotten. All I remember is left center when you walk in. I will need to ask again next time... Will definitely come back to this barber shop. As I often say in my reviews, I leave reviews to mark places I want to (or don't want to) come back to. I've went to Great Cuts on and off throughout the years. What I can say is that they never disappoint! Location is fairly retro and matches the vibe is much more calm then the other barber shops within Geary. The location itself is located near the Target but area is fairly not busy and seems to not get too much foot traffic. It's neighbor is a few car shops and bars but overall great location to get to on foot or bus. On arrival you put your name on the checklist and barbers/stylist ask whomever is next in line which is fairly more simple and helps the flow for everyone to be able to get a haircut. The haircut is excellent and the barbers/stylist will try there best to not only get the cut you want but will also take the time to make sure your cut is exactly what you want. Great Cuts is highly underrated and for a haircut under $40 is highly worth it! read more

Went here for the first time recently. Ana is really sweet - took the time to ask a lot of questions and figure out what I wanted. She was nice enough to shorten progressively and kept checking if that was enough or if I preferred it shorter. It's $25 without tip which is super reasonable. Great place for the haircut. It's a no frills place but the price point and the service is awesome. If you're looking for a good haircut rather than an entire vibe this is the place you should try. When I went they were immediately busy right at the open and I came back in the afternoon when it was slower and almost immediately got seen. I showed her a photo of the style, she did her thing and it turned out great. They're very nice, friendly and seem very open to whatever style you want and making sure you're happy with it. I was a little concerned when I first arrived because almost all the other clients were much much older (I'm late twenty's and my guess is they were late 60's/70's) so I was worried they wouldn't be good at more "hip" cuts but she did great. I'm picky with my hair and it turned out well. Definitely give them a try! $22 can't be beat read more

I'm so happy I found this place! Customer service 10/10. Haircut 10/10. Affordability 10/10. I have very thick, wavy and coarse asian hair that's very difficult to cut, but Ana knew exactly how to cut it. She generously gave me tips on how it should be cut, I was very well educated about my hair. They are very communicative about what they're about to do to your hair. I was never nervous that they would ruin my hair while I was on the chair. I can't believe it's only $25, I feel like I got a $50 haircut. They had one hour waits the day I came since they just opened up after being closed for 5 days, but by the time I was on the chair they were very kind/welcoming, even after serving their millionth customer of the day. Great, fast haircut at a great price in a convenient location. I started coming here years ago, before COVID. I was so glad to see them open again. Please support this local business as they work to recover from the shut down. What I love is no appointment needed. Just walk in and write your name in the notebook on the desk. They will let you know when it is your turn. Get a simple hair cut, which is what we all need nowadays. Just the right amount of talking. Customers wear masks the whole time. The staff wears masks and gloves and cleans between customers. The stylists work efficiently so you can get in and out of the chair reasonably quickly. All for a very good price and value. It is a quarter of the price average SF salons charge, even when your haircut needs are pretty basic. This is only time I leave 2 reviews for same place. I really think they are so good. 2 sisters from Cambodia. When you sit and talk to them, get your hair cut, it is like a tour of the struggle and unimaginable strength of southeast Asian people. They still are so courteous. Take time also. One time I say cut it off, cut all of it off! I was having very bad day because I broke my rib when play golf. So I had the pain, was tired, just not a happy boy. Ana did a great job on the cut for my 5 1/2 year old. She was safe and sweet with my little guy. When I brought him in, his hair was too long, heavy, and uneven. I asked her to keep it long-ish, get rid of the undercut, and blend it more. I also asked that she thin it out since his hair is thick as well as cut it so it would still blend even if his hair isn't parted. She did exactly that. Probably one of the cheapest barber shops on the city if not the cheapest. Can't beat their prices! All the ladies working here are so kind. They always greet you with a big smile and I always have interesting conversations with them. Great cuts has become one of my go to spots. Usually asian salons/barber shops are kind of a gamble, but this place is pretty consistent which is nice. I'm glad it closes around 6-7 so I could always stop by after work. Don't come on Wednesday though because they're closed on Wednesday. I've made the mistake several times coming to the front of the door only to remember they aren't open. Stupid me. Could not have been sweeter to my 9 year old little boy who wanted to keep his "long shaggy hair." This is not conducive to a boy who spends a lot of time in the pool. Or a mother who'd like to see his beautiful hazel eyes. My devilishly clever child asked to keep the hair she cut. Part childish "body integrity" (this is why small children fear getting their nails or hair cut, they fear losing a piece of themselves) and part keeping track she wasn't cutting it too short, Anna painstakingly got his agreement and 4 inches of length. Hallelujah! I would've liked it shorter but my little boy would've been tearful. Excellent! By far the best place to get a cut. I've been around the block for cuts, but never been satisfied until I got a cut from here. Each will take their time and continuously ask for your OK. Ask for Helen. She's been cutting my hair since I was an undergrad at USF. The entire staff is genuine, friendly and very honest about hair styles. The sign in the window now says $22 for Men, Women and children. I brought my daughter there on Sunday for a shorter hair cut. They cut her hair (very short, but it will grow!) and when the cut was over, the woman said, it's $28 for a style hair cut. She pointed to some listing of prices, but again, all I could see was the sign for $22 and she did not get a blow dry, or any other service. If the hair cut was going to be $28, vs. $22, they should have mentioned this. read more
