Saw their cinnamon rolls on Yelp and wanted a breakfast type sandwich. Didn't buy a cinnamon roll because they were out of icing wth? The roll is bigger than their bread loaves and I did get a sample. It's very good even without icing because there is lots of moist cinnamon goodness inside the yummy yeasty bread. I had the ham, egg and cheddar on sourdough with a garlic herb bread and I highly recommend. I also sampled the bacon cheddar bread they brought out fresh with cheddar oozing out the sides and you get cheddar and bacon in every bite. in my most recent visit to the great harvest company, I walked in to see racks of fresh bread. I was ready to purchase, one of our boys was going to make BLTs for dinner. Thought this would be a great place to get good bread. I entered the store a little past 10am. after reading the menu, finding what I wanna do buy, I was told that bread was not ready and was given no timeframe when it would be ready. after selecting another type of bread that I saw many loaves of, I was told they could not sell me that bread as it was for customer sandwiches only.( I mean it was a whole lot of dread) I asked for a different bread and was told the same thing and was pointed to what looked like day old dread. The highlight of this bakery / sandwich spot is of course it's bread. They make a variety of cold and hot sandwiches, as well as some cookies. The store can get a bit busy around lunchtime, but the line moves quickly and food is prepared in minimal time. You also get a slice of whatever bread you want as well! I went here for the first time today . The breads are great and they did provide samples. The 3 stars are on the sandwiches. I bought a half roast beef and provolone sandwich. The sandwich was almost $9 the full sandwich is $13 dollars so I thought I was going to get something good instead I get a tiny sandwich with 1 slice of roast beef and the rest was all tomatoes and lettuce. Don't make the mistake of buying a sandwich here cause they skimp out on the meat. It's not worth it. I should have read the rest of the reviews cause many people are saying the same. I've enjoyed going to Great Harvest since I was a kid. The store is clean, bright, and well-organized, there's a good amount of seating space, and of course you can get a generous sample from one of the breads they have for the day. There are many bread varieties, both sweet and savory, as well as other goodies like cookies and cinnamon rolls. Unsurprisingly, Great Harvest gets crowded during lunch (12:00pm-1:00pm especially). You may have to wait a while if you order a sandwich, but I think they usually come out in a reasonable amount of time. The only reason I don't give them five stars is the prices of the sandwiches are pretty high. Most of the sandwiches are $10 minimum for a whole (you can buy halves as well), and you have to pay an extra dollar for specialty bread. The sandwiches end up costing more than most of the loaves of bread which doesn't make sense. Thankfully, you can get a punch card that gives you a free loaf of bread or sandwich after 12 purchases, and sandwiches do count for punches (at least the whole ones do). Price aside, the sandwiches are delicious. The ingredients are fresh and they have a good variety of meats, vegetables, and cheeses. The fresh baked bread is the icing on the cake, so to speak. The sandwiches are quite hearty and filling so I can often get buy eating one half for lunch and saving the other half for later. I can't come here too often for the sake of my wallet and my waistline, but it is a nice treat once in a while. If you have a carb craving you'll find something to satisfy it here. read more

I found out about this place from a news article from Insider & APPARENTLY it's local to anchorage. Had to cum thru. Well they give you a free sample of a screw ton of random breads they got for the day in the front counter. Along with butter & honey to slather on em. Honestly I didn't even buy bread I just asked for a big ass sample of cinnamon chip & purchased myself some coffee. The ambiance is awesome. Better then some bs basic $tarbucks Y U C K. All I can say is WOW! Greeted immediately when we walked in and offered a piece of bread. You can get a sample of any of the breads, muffins, cookies or specialty items. It was great. I usually love this place SO much. However, the staff that checks you out isn't getting orders right. I spent around $65 worth on sandwiches, cookies, and scones. The sandwiches were wrong or missing items. The bread we requested was all wrong except for one. The cookies I bought were the wrong ones. When we came in there wasn't a rush or anything inside for there to be lots of mess ups where it's understanding. I'm getting irritated going there anymore. Double check your stuff before you leave. That bread is often a discussion in our office (we're a bunch of foodies) and whenever someone does bring it in for everyone to share, it is literally gone within minutes--that is not an exaggeration. The sandwiches here are also amazing, they are hardy layered with good quality deli meats and fresh produce. Chipotle Turkey is a regularly in my rotation as is the Spicy Italian. Even though I haven't tried it personally, the vegetarian sandwich looks delicious stacked with sprouts, cucumbers, tomatoes, though no avocado. OMG first to be here. Their bread is delicious. We were given huge samples of different kinds of bread and were they just moist and perfect. We bought the cherry chocolate raisin loaf and the cinnamon loaf. I'm glad I didn't know about this place for a while since I am/was on the keto diet. I will get off the wagon every now and then just to have their bread. I highly recommend this bakery. Service was excellent. They serve breakfast and sandwiches but only from 7a to 3p. Had the best person helping us this morning. She answered questions and gave suggestions. She helped use navigate the gift basket and we learned how choose breads. While waiting for our breakfast sandwich there was plenty of room to sit. I can see where if someone shows up at the wrong time, it could be a long wait.
