(Yes,I realize this is a review for Great Harvest Bread - keep reading...) But I noticed next door was a place I had never heard of, Great Harvest Bread. I opted to try the place I've never been and boy am I glad I did! I walked in and it smelled amazing! I took it all in and ordered the Chipotle Turkey Sandwich (no tomato) and while I waited I browsed the soups and bought a few of those to go. I truly wish I lived closer, I'd come here often. Winfield Farmers market about mid July. Bought a brick of a lemon lavendaer loaf. The worst $10 ever spent. It was under baked so badly it looked like play doh. It was 2 pounds of raw dough. Taste not much better. Lavender only in the glaze/frosting -- the only truly edible part of the bread that looked nothing like what's posed on the website and advertised as a tea loaf. (Guess it was redefined for this given batch.). Tasted absolutely terrible. Sent feedback using website and never heard back from corporate or the Naperville location. (Probably didn't care if they knew they'd be closing in a few weeks.) . Can't say I'll miss the Naperville location because I would have never gone there or bought from them at the Winfield or any other local market. read more

I always enjoy getting a special treat from Great Harvest. I'm favorite is their blueberry scone - they are huge, soft, and just the right amount of sweet! Their specialty breads are also great and easy to serve. I usually pick up a loaf or two when we have guests. I have yet to try anything from their cafe menu, but that's next on my list! read more

Great Harvest has been a staple in my house since I can remember. My mom would bring me in and I loved getting a sample and loading it with butter. I haven't been in for a few years since becoming gluten free. But I was pleasantly surprised to see the table of gluten free options. The gluten free pumpkin chocolate chip bread is delicious and the texture is perfect. I'll definitely be back for more. They also have gluten free frozen white bread available. They also offer low carb and gluten free breads too. I really like their serrano pepper salsa - super specific but their items are local. They've got a variety- they have honeys, spreads, ready-to-make soup ingredients, and more. Service at the Winfield Farmers Market today Wednesday July 2nd was rather lacking... 2 young men working if I recall correct the one in blue was ok and doing his job waiting on a customer. The second young man after cashing out a customer sat down and went right to his phone. I a customer was ready to buy 2 packages of the 5-count cookies and a loaf of the cinnamon bread. But like I said the phone was more important than me a cash paying customer. But what really topped off the lack of service was another lady approached the table and the phone guy got up and asked if she wanted help. At that point you lost my sale and I ended up buying cookie and bread at another stand. Also why can't you have a small sign at each item stating the cost. Had the opportunity to go this cute bakery today. First of all, the staff is so freaking sweet and amazing. They gave me a free loaf while I was sitting outside waiting for my car to be fixed. It shows excellent customer service and the fact that they truly care not just about customers but everyone. I went in and omg there is SUCHHHHH a huge variety of sandwiches, breads, muffins, cinnamon rolls. I felt like I could've spent an hour in there and still not have my order figured out haha. I loved loved how many options they had!! Anyways, went with the Asiago Italian focaccia loaf and brought it home. Could not wait to get into it because it smelled HEAVENLY! My husband isn't much into breads but he had one bite and his face completely lit up! He could not stop eating!! Came here around 4 on a Friday and most of the shelf was bare so I came back on Saturday around 9am and they had an abundance of breads. This was bc of Raina fb their supply for the farmers market being there too. The cashier remembered us and suggested some breads they didn't have the previous day. We try to avoid seed oils so it was nice to find a bakery that doesn't use canola oil in the bread. We don't know what was in the giradiniera and cheese so there might have still been some. Asiago Italian Focaccia - so chewy and flavorful. I love the bites of cheese and giardiniera. Smells like pizza bread. Cheddar garlic bun - so soft fluffy and flavorful. Increasing my Yelp to 5 stars after this morning's visit. The two staff members at the counter were so friendly and professional. The woman in front of me was raging about the Cinnamon Chip having been naked yesterday (versus this morning) and was so mean to the staff; however they both remained calm and professional while explaining to her that the bread baked yesterday is still fresh and delicious. I can attest, as I bought 2 of those loaves. Plus 4 more others. And Apple Butter! Great selection. Beautifully sunlit and sparkling clean store. Super staff. I can't wait to return! I had been wanting to try this place for a while, and finally got a chance to stop in and grabbed a breakfast sandwich and a few different loaves of bread. Honestly, I threw the ham and cheese breakfast sandwich away, it resembled fast food and fake egg and that is not at all what I was expecting. My husband and I are SUPER excited to be moving down the street from this place in a few short weeks. While touring the house we of course had to check it out since I feel that the Chicago suburbs have a SEVERE lack of bakeries. The staff was very welcoming. They offer very generous sized samples of 2-4 breads on their menu to indulge in while you are making your selections. We tried the monkey bread and it was very good! We both decided on breakfast sandwiches. They were good but I've had better. They have a list of the breads they make and which day they are baked on so you can come to the bakery for the fresh stuff! We are sourdough worshipers and were sad that they had run out but look forward to trying it in the future. They had some tables and chairs to sit outside which was really nice. I was impressed by their selection of gluten free products for those who seek that sort of thing out. We will certainly be returning and are eager to give more items a try! read more

They'll give you samples of dessert breads or a half-slice of a featured loaf (the Popeye spinach bread - very tasty). They have a surprising paucity of vegetarian sandwich options; even the salad has meat in it. You can get a grilled cheese (with tasty garlic spread) or a hummus sandwich, or you can order an X without the meat in it. You can't even double down on the vegetables as they don't really have any - I asked them to make me a grilled cheese and add vegetables: they said "well, we have tomatoes." So this is a bit frustrating. On the other hand, the bread was excellent; the cheese was excellent; even the tomatoes were good. I'll stop in when I want to buy a loaf of bread or when I'm in the mood for hummus. I like to support local businesses, but I will not be supporting this one. The past two times I have visited or called asking for assistance, the employees and manager have been extremely dismissive and rude. The manager had no interest in trying to work with me on a custom order. I am disappointed because it's a local business and I thought that they would be willing to help or at least see how they could help. One of my coworkers asked me how far was I to Edward hospital, then asked me if I know Great Harvest Bread, then asked me if I could get the Old fashioned white for him if I happen to drive by that area. Wow, must be some bread which make him want to get. He lives like more than one hour away. So I went. I got the old fashioned white for him and Asiago Italian for me. The Asiago Italian was simply the best. It was rich, moist, soft, and just delicious. Our dinner was this bread dipping in the extra virgin olive oil and some stir fried green beans. So content in the end. I think I could be addicted to it as I am already thinking of getting more of it. It is expensive but totally worth it. The service was wonderful. A young staff told me I should not keep the bread in frig which makes it go stale fast. My bread should be good for 7-10 days as it was made that day. A wonderful option although it was all gone within a few hours we got it. I'm just glad I live so close to this place. read more

Yes, this place does indeed have great bread, and a wide selection. I guess we don't need special bread that often, but when you're in the mood for it, this place is a must go. The loaves may be on the expensive side ($5 - $7), but you certainly get your money's worth. I tried a sample of an apple-cinnamon bread, and it was moist, rich and delicious. Definitely a 5 star establishment! One of the first places I really loved when we first moved to Naperville. Freshly made bread daily. Free generous samples of several of their breads. All of their bread products are addictingly delicious! I wish they offered French style breads, they do more yeasty, soft offerings. My favs include: focaccia, pizza bread (offered only first weekend of the month), garlic cheddar, pumpkin chocolate chip, snickerdoodle, monkey bread! It's the best white bread I've ever tasted. Kind of sweet and amazing texture. Now, since I've been gluten free for a few years, I miss it so much. Their gluten free options are decent but bread needs to be made with gluten. That's just how it is. The gluten free pumpkin chocolate chip bread is the only gf option I buy when I go there. I was sent in to pick up 6 bunny breads for Easter. My bill was $80 and I felt like I was inconveniencing the girl that waited on me. I really upset her when I asked if they had a gluten free bunny also. Apparently bunny breads need to have gluten at least that is what I now believe. I'm a curmudgeon when it comes to my money. I'm so silly sometimes... I'm embarrassed to say I've never been in here. I've certainly had it bookmarked, but I rarely eat a loaf of bread. I go thru rolls and buns but get those freshly made when I go to my butcher. I made the walk over to Walker's Charhouse and decided to stop in on the walk home. A nice greeting upon arrival and the offer to try a slice of bread, which they have on display. I like rye and they had an unusual sample of Swedish Limpa, which has anise seeds but also pureed oranges. It was the last day they were making it, so I figured I could freeze it for now. I get spoiled every once in a while and my neighbor bakes me a loaf. I think she bakes something everyday for her family or a church event. I see they actual grind their own raw materials here and the pumpkin/chocolate chip, which is a top seller, sounds good enough that it will get me back in here before another five years pass. I saw a large table full of gluten free items... I haven't made the switch over. Also an assortment of pies. I'll have to stop back and try their coffee and breakfast items too. My New Years resolution is do more shopping in this plaza, as I can walk here.... weather permitting, as it is nearly a whole mile. read more

This year it made my tongue burn and go numb. I actually called and asked if they had changed the recipe, that's how bad it was.
