It's a unique mouth feel and you want to eat all 3. I recommend ordering them last The caramelized brie and braised duck skillet hash was so unique and delicious, we had never had something like that before. The meat was juicy and melted in your mouth with the brie and soft scrambled eggs. The bread was toasted a crisp golden brown and was the perfect vehicle for the hash. They came with a side which wow THE CRISPY POTATOES OMG they were one of our favorite bites. So herbaceous and topped with coarse flakey salt for a tasty balanced bite. By time we got to the french toast logs I was ready to tap out, but boy momma didn't raise no quitter and my man knows that applies to him as well so we did what we had to do. They're extremely dense, thick, and very filling so I would split with at least one other person. I slathered them bad larry's in whatever magical whipped butter they gave us and got to work. I had to be pried away from the plate and table and airlifted home because of how full I was, but I couldn't stop eating it. We had leftovers and they heated up decently, as well as the donuts! We came here for a Sunday brunch to finalize our girls' weekend. We were a party of 5 and got seated within 20 minutes of arrival. Parking is horrible so be prepared to park in the neighborhood and walk. This is a leisurely place to dine. Despite having quite a bit of servers, it took awhile for food to come out as well as water refills. We were in the middle of the patio area so there were always servers walking by but just not attentive to our table. The pancakes were not the greatest. After passing by this spot countless times, I finally made it in and overall, it was a solid experience with a few things worth noting. First off, the location is right in the heart of Hillcrest near the DMV, so it's definitely a busy area. There IS parking, but fair warning.... the spaces are tight. There's only one way in and one way out, which gets pretty congested. With it being such a popular breakfast spot, there were a lot of people (including families) waiting outside, and it felt crowded. A larger or more organized waiting area would really improve the experience. That said, once we got inside, things definitely picked up. The host was kind and got us seated pretty quickly, which I appreciated. The interior design is beautiful very spacious, airy, and thoughtfully put together. Each table had a small flower vase (looked real!), which added a really nice touch. Service-wise, Edgar took great care of us. He was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu, which always makes a difference. For food, we ordered the steak with truffle fries and the French toast. The steak was requested medium but came out more well done than wanted. The truffle fries were really good, though. The French toast portion is HUGE definitely shareable. Personally, I would've preferred the syrup on the side because the bottom layer was pretty soaked, which gave it more of an eggy texture. That said, the bacon and blueberries paired really well and balanced it out nicely. Drinks were a bit of a mixed bag. The mimosas leaned heavily on the orange juice...more than I expected served in a more casual glass than I would've liked for the vibe of the place. I ordered the prime rib since the waiter raved about it, and I do like prime rib, but it's so hard to find a good one. This place wasn't the exception. I was super disappointed in the prime rib. It was super firm and tough to cut despite it's beautiful presentation. The mashed potatoes and asparagus paired perfectly with the meat too. The gravy was also really good! Too bad the cut was poor. I can't stand dry chicken and this was nothing near. The donuts were huge and unexpected. They reminded me of fair food. When i bit into mine it felt super doughy and uncooked (i understand it was cooked thoroughly and this is just the texture of deep fried dough). It was heavy and dense. I had two bites and had to tap out. We took these home and ate these over the course of a two days. Quite a bit. As an overall complaint.. I'm not really for dog owners bringing their dogs INTO restaurants. As I understand the CDPH policies against non-service dogs in food facilities... i was surprised to be sat next to someone who had their dog on the booth bench and was feeding the dog from the table/plate. My entire table ordered only savory items but each one was executed very well. Nice quality ingredients, some interesting twists/additions to spice up the typical brunch fare. The brisket is not too fatty and super tender, the pepper hollandaise is heavenly, and I loved the fresh elements of the kale and tomatoes which both balanced the dish nicely. The potatoes soak up the brisket juices and the result is just incredibly savory umami goodness. Portions are generous, we all took home leftovers despite our food being so delicious we couldn't stop eating. Service was timely and friendly, and they brought out a whole plate with four different condiments for us to try when we asked for some butter. The fig jam and hot sauce were both great, I recommend asking for some! Also the restaurant week special comes with a blueberry scone which is to die for! Please put it on the regular menu! My niece was going out to brunch in this area so I decided to check out this place out with my sister instead. I have heard about this restaurant for years and I have never gotten the chance to check it out. Parking is brutal, but that is to be expected. (This was MLK as well) The place was packed by the time we sat down. There was numerous staff coming and going in all directions. The menu is insane, I feel like each item was carefully curated to have a blend of different tastes. My sister and I were debating among these 3 options: 1. House Smoked Brisket Hash- our famous slow smoked beef brisket, crispy yukon potatoes, white onions, charred kale, cherry tomato, smoked bacon, poached eggs red piquillo pepper hollandaise, chopped chive, served with fresh ciabatta bread - We ended up not getting this one, but maybe next time. 2. Great Maple French Dip- slow roasted ribeye steak, onion au jus, crispy onion, horseradish sour cream, french roll, served with pommes frites or mini salad - I got this, I have to say this was pretty good, the meat was not tough, but not really seasoned. I think more cheese, the meat itself should be seasoned more and the Au Jus wasn't too salty (while many are) but definitely needed more spices and more salt. The plate was insane. (mini salad and added fries were a plus) (Portions are quite large here, but the prices are somewhat high in my opinion) This would be an excellent dish if meat was seasoned more as well as the Au Jus. I do like pork belly but I do not think smoked pork belly is a good choice with this dish. Salted Crispy Pork belly would have been better. 3/5 For Appetizer: Famous Portobello Mushroom Fries- parmesan crusted portobello mushrooms spears, red pepper flake & basil pesto aioli- These were INSANELY ONE OF THE BEST THINGS I HAVE EVER EATEN. Our waitress refilled our waters constantly without us asking and many staff members checked on us and made sure we had hot sauce and other condiments. This would be a perfect spot for a brunch date or a place to take out of town guests. It does get very busy though so make sure to get here a little early to avoid the crowds. Came here for Mother's Day for the first time and it was soooo good!! Customer service was amazing, we loved our waiter. Food - 10/10. We were seated right away at the bar about an hour before closing. It was our first time here, and despite the long line outside, we decided to try it after seeing good reviews. Service (7/10): The servers were kind and helpful, especially knowing it was our first visit. The hosts, however, felt a bit standoffish and unclear. When we chose bar seating, we were told "it's open bar" without further direction, which left us confused. We ordered the portobello mushroom fries, House Smoked Brisket Hash, and smoked salmon toast. Portobello mushroom fries (9/10): Our server recommended these as an appetizer, and they were much better than expected. They came with an aioli that made them incredibly tasty. They were on the salty side, and while delicious, the portion felt small for the price. It was essentially two large portobello mushrooms for $20, which felt steep for an appetizer. Still, I rated it highly because I know I'll be craving it later. Brisket Hash (8.5/10): A huge portion that could easily be shared between two people. Everything was cooked well, though the brisket was slightly dry. The eggs and potatoes were cooked perfectly. It's definitely on the pricier side. Smoked salmon toast (8.5/10): Smaller than expected and served on just one slice of grilled bread. For $18, I was expecting at least two pieces. That said, the chive mascarpone was light, flavorful, and paired beautifully with the salmon. Our total was about $76 for three items, which felt steep for brunch. This place is pretty average and overpriced. We were seated outside, about 15 minutes past our reservation time. Our server was nice but it took her a while to check in when we got our food, but to be fair, the place was pretty busy. We were seated in an outdoor fenced off patio area, and it was loud! The mocha was the highlight. My two-egg breakfast was very average, and the chicken sandwich had a disproportionate amount of chicken, making it difficult to eat. The barbecue pork belly sandwich was too fatty even for my spouse who loves fatty pork belly. read more
