I always return for their excellent service and famous pigs in a blanket. Drinks are cute and also tasty. Consistent breakfast spot. Only plate I wouldn't get again was the chilaquiles. It was a bit too citrusy for my preference and the plate felt too mixed up. Would probably be better plated differently and not all mixed.
HUGE portion of French toast. Get it with the bacon, you won't be disappointed by the sweet and savory combo. An order comes with four ginormous logs, I'd recommend splitting it with your group. Don't forget to top it with some of their maple syrup.
I had a great experience here at great maple. My friend and I sat outside and enjoyed a really private breakfast for most of the time. Service was fast and courteous! I got a simple two weed breakfast with sausage and it didn't disappoint! Everything was perfectly done and tasted great. I was happy the eggs were done over hard as requested. The chicken sausage were also very tasty!
One of my favorite breakfast spots. The only downside is the parking. It's pretty difficult on the weekend especially if you come during the farmers market. I got the eggs Benedict and we shared the maple bacon doughnut balls which were incredible. Highly recommend. Definitely get a few things and share here. Everything I've ever gotten has been delicious. The servers seem quite busy all the time so sometimes hard to flag someone down.
We came here for a Sunday brunch to finalize our girls' weekend. We were a party of 5 and got seated within 20 minutes of arrival. Parking is horrible so be prepared to park in the neighborhood and walk. This is a leisurely place to dine. Despite having quite a bit of servers, it took awhile for food to come out as well as water refills. We were in the middle of the patio area so there were always servers walking by but just not attentive to our table. The pancakes were not the greatest. It was just a dollop of peanut butter on top with a fried banana. Those did not taste the greatest. Everything else we ordered was pretty good. We would go back for the food but definitely plan on it not being a quick spot to grab a bite.
Let's just say I know why the French Toast Logs put them on the Michelin Guide because holy crap they are good! Great Maple is a small busy diner in Hillcrest serving up amazing brunch food. They do sweet and savory well. It is a must try!
Great Maple is an iconic San Diego staple and a non-negotiable visit every time I'm in town! Their night dinner service is incredible--the smoked brisket is unbelievable, so delicate to the touch that it literally melts in your mouth. Between the huge portions, beautiful patio aesthetics, and a staff that works like a well-oiled machine in walkable Hillcrest, it's a total 5/5. Pro-tip: Book a reservation ahead of time to secure a table, though you can sometimes slide in early on weekend mornings!
1M/10 Teleport, don't walk Truly the best food my boyfriend and I have ever had. I'm also a breakfast/brunch enthusiast so I was in heaven. We went for breakfast on my boyfriend's birthday and it was the highlight of our day so unfortunately nothing else compared the rest of the day The donuts came out first and made us speechless! The crust perfectly protects the light and fluffy inside and holds the maple icing beautifully! The bacon is crunchy and crispy and the perfect complimentary salty crunch to the soft warm dough. It's a unique mouth feel and you want to eat all 3. I recommend ordering them last The caramelized brie and braised duck skillet hash was so unique and delicious, we had never had something like that before. The meat was juicy and melted in your mouth with the brie and soft scrambled eggs. The bread was toasted a crisp golden brown and was the perfect vehicle for the hash. They came with a side which wow THE CRISPY POTATOES OMG they were one of our favorite bites. So herbaceous and topped with coarse flakey salt for a tasty balanced bite. By time we got to the french toast logs I was ready to tap out, but boy momma didn't raise no quitter and my man knows that applies to him as well so we did what we had to do. They're extremely dense, thick, and very filling so I would split with at least one other person. I slathered them bad larry's in whatever magical whipped butter they gave us and got to work. I had to be pried away from the plate and table and airlifted home because of how full I was, but I couldn't stop eating it. We had leftovers and they heated up decently, as well as the donuts! Neither got soggy from refrigeration or microwaving, so that was impressive!
Very cool place for brunch! Great food! Must try the maple bacon donuts! Staff were friendly and calm even though the restaurant was busy. We went on a Monday and it was packed! Can't even imagine what this place is like on the weekends! Fresh ingredients, and food came out pretty quickly. Finding parking can be a challenge especially with the surrounding community under construction but if you pack your patience to find parking the food here will be the reward! Restaurant was bright and simple deco but seemed a bit cramped. We were seated fairly close to the kitchen area but also next to the main walking aisle. Sitting somewhere different may have provided a different feel. Would definitely try this place again!
A cool brunch/lunch spot! Parking can be a little tricky, so I'd recommend carpooling if you're going with a bigger group. We went on a weekday and didn't have to wait, but I'm not sure how busy weekends get. The service was friendly and the food came out quickly. The vegan hash had amazing flavor -- I especially loved the sweet potatoes and mushrooms. The maple bacon donuts were good too, but definitely very rich. I couldn't finish one myself, so I'd recommend sharing them with a few people. Overall, the food was really good. A little pricey, but honestly what isn't these days?
This was nice brunch surprise that was really tasty!! We were seated outside, where the San Diego weather was really nice! Our server was attentive and brunch was spot on!! So good here!! I have NEVER had bacon on a donut before, so this was a first and as a signature choice here, it was surprisingly DELISH!! Everything was cooked to perfection. This was my first time having poached eggs and let me tell you, I AM A FAN now!!! I def recommend checking this spot out when in San Diego!!
We got lucky with parking this morning just before 9am. They seated us right away since we there were only two of us. The service was exceptional and one point during Sunday brunch . The portions were ginormous and I could complain about the 25-30$ price tag on most of the menu items. Everything tasted delicious and my wife loved the ginger lime mimosa

Breakfast was such a hit here! First time being here and will absolutely be back. Ordered Johnny's Silver dollar pancakes with the French blueberry crumb and it was so delicious. I added the apple chicken sausage on the side, you don't see that option in most restaurants so that was nice ! and it just made the whole meal that much better. Nice vibe inside the restaurant but the patio is really the spot to sit and enjoy breakfast. Servers were friendly, attentive, and made the experience even better. Overall just a really solid breakfast spot in Hillcrest. Be back soon read more
This place was phenomenal. We went here for brunch with friends and the food was 12/10 incredible. The squash blossom hash was so delicious, really fresh vegetables and the goat cheese was the perfect touch! The maple bacon doughnuts were so delicious too, they had the texture of cake and really nice flavor. You could tell they were homemade and fresh. The ambience was great, lots of indoor and outdoor space for seating. Our waitress refilled our waters constantly without us asking and many staff members checked on us and made sure we had hot sauce and other condiments. This would be a perfect spot for a brunch date or a place to take out of town guests. It does get very busy though so make sure to get here a little early to avoid the crowds. Came here for Mother's Day for the first time and it was soooo good!! Customer service was amazing, we loved our waiter. Food - 10/10. Because it was Mother's Day, they were out of high chairs but had a booster seat for our son, which worked out perfectly!! We will be returning, thank you!!! read more

It's been a long time since I've been here. Noon on a Tuesday was busy but we were seated quickly. I started with the Famous Dill Pickle Mary and Maple Bacon Donuts. Both were great together! I split the Beef Brisket Sandwich and appreciate not being charged for a split plate. Fantastic sandwich. Kudos to Jess who provided great service Loved how she stepped in and gave us separate billing and remembered what the four of us ordered. read more

My bestie and I went after the Summer Fridays pop up and got the best experience. Definitely a busy place because we arrived 30 minutes after they opened and were greeted with an almost full parking lot! We got a Vegan Hash with Jalapeños and it was so good !!! The portions are good for 2 people so great place to share a few plates. The coffee was amazing and this is the first place I've ever been offered oat milk for my refillable coffee! Definitely coming back with the rest of my friends!! read more
This donut should win awards! I'm still thinking about it days later. Great maple really is great! I had an awesome time here with my family. Seated immediately at 1 pm on a Tuesday for a late brunch. The inside was beautiful and the wait staff was lovely. Portions were gigantic! Food: MAPLE BACON DONUTS!!! In a pool of maple bacon icing, 3 fluffy donut babies were born. They were nicely yeasted like beignets and covered with candied bacon. Eating these made me euphoric. Must order. We used the extra sauce for the French toast! French toast logs: Big fluffy. Really solid. I appreciated the crispy sugary edges. I did wish the candied bacon on top was saltier, and the pool of fake maple syrup did distract from the flavor of the French toast. I enjoyed this dish a lot though. Brisket sandwich: Yummy! It was great to experience a very different flavor from the other two dishes. The crispy onions inside really tied it all together. The salad on the side was also a refreshing new flavor on the palette. This sandwich was HUGE. Zucchini scramble: Loved the goat cheese. This was definitely the lightest dish out of all the things we ordered, and it was much needed. Everything else was so dense and rich. The toast was crispy and flavorful, and the side potatoes were delicious and crispy as well. Moroccan iced tea: Sweet and sour and minty. Yum! Overall, portions were gigantic. I was only able to finish half of a donut, half of a French toast log, and a few bites of brisket sandwich. Lots of delicious leftovers for days. This was a very cute restaurant for brunch. It was busy even on a Monday morning but they were able to seat a party of three in less than 15 minutes. The server was nice and so were the bussers/food runner. Food: we ordered the French toast with added fried chicken and the Apple pie pancakes. I really enjoyed the French toast, it came with candied bacon bits on top. The crusting on the chicken did not fall off while cutting it which is nice, needed to add some salt. My husband enjoyed his apple pancakes and if you're an apple pie lover it definitely hits the spot with its granola crumble and apples on top. My husband also ordered the Salted Caramel budino con panna, it's basically a double shot espresso with salted caramel and whipped cream. He enjoyed it but said he would not order it again. Overall, would recommend giving it a try for brunch, there is something for everyone. Having a booster chair that holds a baby in a car seat would make it better. read more
Came here with a group of friends - service was great and food was pretty good. We made a reservation for an early time so we didn't have a wait. Their French toast with added fried chicken is huge portion! This can easily be shared by two people. Great combo of savory and sweet if you're craving that. Loved the Squash Blossom Hash! My favorite part was the squash blossom stuffed with goat cheese. I know some people don't like goat cheese but I love it! Hollandaise sauce was okay though. Probably my least favorite part, it was a bit thick and heavy, not creamy. Would come back! read more
There is a reason this place is on the Michelin guide, and let me tell you, they earned it 100%! The exterior of the building looks like an old throw back to a dinner, old signage, single story, no frills. When you walk inside, it's a cute, slightly updated busy restaurant with waiters bustling about between tables. Our server was incredibly responsive, answered all kinds of questions and make excellent recommendations on what to order, including food and drinks off a seasonal menu! Food: ordered the Great Maple French Toast Logs brioche "fire log " cut and battered, smoked bacon syrup, topped with fresh mountain blueberries. Add buttermilk fried chicken or double smoked bacon. I am going to full stop right here. THIS IS one of the most delicious things I have ever eaten for breakfast. Topped with candied bacon chunks. Just wow.... Do not miss this, unless you have a gluten or dietary restriction. It's off the rails! Second dish: seasonal quiche, served with small bread sliced and toasted and a balsamic salad. My friend enjoyed it more than me, but that is because I like cheese in my quiche, not just broiled on top. Hands down, highly recommend! Pro tip: make reservations, and also, arrive early, parking is challenging. So allow time to hunt for it. read more

Ordered the maple donuts and the classic breakfast which came with your choice of sausage/bacon (I chose sausage), eggs, potatoes and toast. The maple donuts were a bit too batter heavy and sweet for my liking. Aside from that, the classic breakfast was delicious! The potatoes had a slight crisp and the jam that came with the toast was delicious! The jam tasted fresh and was tart. Also ordered a ginger beer which tasted nice and refreshing. Service was decent. The restaurant only has two bathrooms and is a bit on the smaller end. Not really worth the hype in my opinion but maybe I didn't order the items that they are known for. read more

We visited Great Maple for Sunday brunch without realizing it's been a Michelin-recommended spot for several years, so expectations were high. The wait was about 30 minutes, which wasn't bad considering the brunch rush, but parking was a real challenge -- especially with the Hillcrest Farmers Market taking up most of the nearby spots. Inside, the restaurant is lively and full of energy, but also very loud and tightly packed. Walking space between tables is almost nonexistent, so if you value elbow room, I'd recommend sitting at the bar or ordering to-go. We ordered the chilaquiles, brisket hash, pork belly, and French toast logs. Every dish was flavorful and well-executed -- meats were tender, portions generous, and nothing felt overly greasy or heavy. The brisket hash stood out for its depth of flavor, and the French toast logs were surprisingly balanced, not too sweet. Portions are large enough to share, and we definitely couldn't finish everything. Food: 4.5/5 - Excellent flavor and texture. Ambiance: 2/5 - Too loud and cramped for comfort. Service: 3.5/5 - Friendly but stretched thin due to crowd size. Overall, I'd give Great Maple a solid 4/5. The food lives up to the Michelin mention, but next time I'll plan ahead, share a plate, and probably skip the coffee -- it was too dark and bitter for my taste. read more
We decided to try great maple after seeing all the gluten free options when we were at Disney. This location unfortunately didn't have as many options, but I was able to get the polenta bowl which was great. Lots of mushrooms and cheese. The server spoke to the chef to find out what they could do that was gluten free. We also had mimosas which were very refreshing the restaurant was very busy so I recommend making a reservation ahead of time. Overall it was very cute and the food did come out fast. read more
Easy parking, exceptional service, refined flavors, generous portions! Came in for breakfast on a weekday, plenty of seats. Parking was easy on their private lot. Things we ordered 1) hot mocha with whipped cream- rich chocolatey and coffee flavor, mildly sweet. It was really good 2) smoked beef brisket hash was the winner today. The flavors and textures complemented nicely. The brisket was tender and flavorful, very light on salt. Potatoes were so good dipped in the egg yolk from the poached egg. The kale and tomatos also tasted super fresh. This was a well balanced, high protein meal. We will definitely order this again. The portion was also so huge we have enough for another full meal. 3) french toast logs were super light and fluffy. Lots if blueberry and lots of bacon (pile on top and another pile on the side of plate). Syrup was light and not too sugary tasting. Service was exceptional. Our waitstaff made great recommendations and were very knowledgeable about the menu. She also saw the water glass wasn't clean as she was bringing it and fixed it right away. This place is super crowded and can be very loud . There was a bit of a wait but they have a decent amount of waiting areas to wait around . The service was fine , the food was Fabulous! My son loved the kids sliders . The fried chicken was juicy , needed a tad more flavor but cooked fresh . The French toast was divine . I was a little disappointed on the size of my caramel coffee and weird that it was served in a glass cup that is usually used for water . I would definitely come here again and try something new and perhaps call ahead and put my name on the list . read more

This was a after church brunch. I suggest reservations but we had none. It was just 2 of us. I was put on wait list. The hostess said 10-15 minutes which wasn't bad for this place. My name was called within 5 minutes and was sat on the patio. Stephanie was our waitress and she was great! I got the French toast logs. OMG OMG so soft and buttery. We stopped by this popular brunch spot in San Diego and it didn't disappoint. We got lucky and didn't have to wait that long, about 5-10 min. We started with their Maple bacon doughnuts, a must try! They come out hot and fresh, and have a soft chewy texture. So good! We also had the French toast logs, Chicken sandwich, Sunshine squash blossom hash, Smoked brisket hash, Chorizo and Hardwood bacon scramble melts. All the menu portions are quite large so you can share if you want. The restaurant is pretty large with a lot of seating. They do get really busy, but all the staff were friendly and accommodating. Favorite brunch spot in SD for over 10 years. Huge plus is that they accept reservations, so no worries getting seated quickly if you plan ahead even on a busy holiday weekend. The interior is charming retro diner style, and service is always swift and extra friendly. The menu is big and has something for everyone. The carnivores at my table enjoyed the brisket hash and chorizo dishes, which each come attractively plated with seasoned potatoes, bread and/or fruit mini sides. I tried the peach donuts, which were hefty, filling and delicious. The beignets are paper bag shaken tableside, and are best eatilen piping hot, still pillowy and dipped in fresh lemon curd. I always want to try the apple pie and cocktails but never have enough tummy space leftover. Last time I ate here, a mystery patron comped my table's tab, which has never happened before and left me with an extra special impression of this spot. Look forward to sating my occasional brunch cravings here for many more years to come. read more

This place gets quite crowded on the weekends so reservation in advance is highly recommended. There's always a big crowd outside waiting. We were seated on their back patio this time. The table top was a bit warped and uneven so we had to be careful placing our drinks. There was plenty of shade. Our waitress was great. Service was stellar and she kept on checking in with us. I wish I remembered her name. The food was delicious. We ordered mimosas all around and beignets to start. Our entrees arrived all together and portions were large. I ordered their brisket hash and that was really filling. I had to take half home. Their French toast was very popular. We ordered it as well and my friends liked it. We've always been happy with the food and service here. Parking on the weekend is a little difficult to find. Head across the street to the north side and park in the residential area. read more

Very cute and trendy brunch/lunch spot in hill crest. The food was absolutely amazing and the service was great as well. The staff we helpful and pleasant. We started with the beignets with a lemon sauce on the side! Please order these to complement your coffee or expresso! We also ordered the traditional breakfast with bacon, eggs, and potatoes; the tacos, and vegetarian breakfast skillet. Everything was so tasty and fresh! My only Regret is that we weren't in town long enough to come back and order more! Highly recommend this place if you're in the San Diego area! read more
Had a fairly decent experience here for brunch. My group ordered the beneighs to share. I ordered a peach Bellini and bacon scramble. Everything came in good time and our server was attentive. I asked for hot sauce and it came in ok time as well. The flavor of my scramble was pretty standard and a decent portion. I remember coming a couple years ago and it sucked (it prior came in a small metal tin). The cheese on top was only partially melted so there were still strands of cold cheese. Additionally, one set of utensils we were given was not clean and had food in the fork. Everything is standard pricing for brunch, expect to spend $20-40 each. Wow! Amazing food and service all around! They offered so many different options on the menu! Our group of 5 wanted to try all of it! Lol! We will definitely come back again when visiting San Diego. If we knew about it earlier, we probably would have gone the entire 3 day weekend we were in San Diego! The smoked brisket was DELICIOUS! And the French Toast was perfect! Breakfast at Great Maple Hillcrest was truly a unique and pleasant experience. The place is super clean, even during a very busy morning, which is impressive on its own. What stood out the most was the staff--despite the rush, not a single person looked stressed. The atmosphere felt welcoming, calm, and genuinely happy. The food was excellent, with generous portions, and the fun music added a special touch--it felt like fireworks to my heart. Even the details mattered--the bathroom was spotless, and the overall cleanliness of the property was on point. I also noticed the general manager opening the doors right on time and kindly taking the time to explain menu items to a guest. That level of attention is rare. Usually, in busy places, managers and staff don't have time to connect with customers, but not here. The manager's engagement and positive energy clearly spread to the entire team. Everyone felt welcome. It's refreshing to see a manager so present and involved, rather than hidden in an office. That leadership makes a big difference. Thank you, Great Maple, for delivering not just great food but an unforgettable experience. The complimentary birthday dessert was the cherry on top--priceless. Very good! We traveled out of the way to check this place out. Only downside is the portions are pretty large and it was hard to order multiple thins to try a lot - champagne problems I know! The mimosa flight was nice, but gets warm too quickly. The beignets were soooooo good. Definitely order. Everything else was fine! Service was okay. Food was amazing. It was a little warm on the patio today, we should've sat inside. Wait staff was great! Had a reservation and so glad we did because it was packed. Donuts were delicious but too much for two people. We will take one home and see how it is warmed up. Beignets looked amazing on the table next to us. read more
I just had brunch here with my family. This restaurant was magnificent. They were very generous on the servings. My husband and I ordered the smoked bacon melted scramble and the brioche French toast logs. Wow! The flavors were all incredible. Our waitress was very, very nice. I would definitely recommend making reservations, especially on a weekend. It wasn't super crowded. But with limited parking, you would have to do street parking. I would definitely recommend this place as a really good brunch spot when in San Diego. We'll definitely be back next time we're in town! read more

Unfortunately while their food is very yummy they are not particularly gluten free friendly. No indications on menus, no GF bread etc.

Unfortunately No. They serve breakfast in the morning till certain hours. I do know that it can be as late as noon but I don't think their menu allows for breakfast anytime after that.

The website says they have a happy hour from 5-6pm....with small bites too
Do they have a parking lot?
Yes, they do but it is small. Make sure you time your visit otherwise you will have to circle the neighborhood looking for street parking.
