wow, I wish I'd read the reviews before I ordered from this place I had two dishes, moo shi and chow fun possibly the worst Chinese food I have had as as long as I can remember the mu shi was edible, But far from delicious. The second dish was absolutely an edible and it's really hard to screw up Chinese noodles for once I couldn't complain that it was too salty or that they used to switch so I sauce it wasn't salty enough and it had an absolutely no flavor and it didn't have been Sprouse you can serve that dish without being sprouts it was really dreadful and the reality is that I actually threw it away I tried to heat it up because I have the other dish first I tried to heat it up and have it the next day and it was just inedible read more

Cash only in 2019. Big red flag for IRS and INS... I'm sure they are 100% legit wink wink but it is a huge red flag in this day and age. Terrible for business, lose alot of customers, especially repeat customers because they won't come back. You are losing money! I know, my family started a restaurant in 2004, we held out the first couple of years with cash only, due to cost and complexity. It would get a zero star if they allowed. We tried this joint a few years ago. My partner got sick immediately. I just couldn't get too far with the meal. Craving Chinese yesterday, I played wish or dare with their so-called "Bourbon Chicken". I have know idea how many times management/owners have switched over in the last 10 years but it has seriously declined. I never see the same face twice and although my visits are very frequent now, I've been there more than a few times over the last 6 months. Let me also preface this story with this: I work at a juvenile detention center and any metal is considered contraband. That being said, I walked in today and ordered my usual sweet and sour and wonton soup. The young lady at the counter I have never seen before, nor the cooks behind her. I proceed to ask that the chicken be put in a plastic container as I am not allowed the metal at work. She proceeds to tell ME that it can't be done, that I'll need to order something else that comes in a plastic container. She's adamant about not allowing it and that I must get something else. I replied with not wanting rice or a lunch special and that I've had it put in a plastic container before with her replying, "We don't do that!" and begun speaking her native language to the cook. This is going on for several minutes at this point and I interject that I don't care if I'm charged extra, I just need a plastic container. It's finally agreed upon and the conversation continues in their native language until my food is bagged and given to me. Now, the food... I only work 15 minutes up the road. The wontons are overly mushy, so much so that when I put in my fork, it tore and the stuffing fell out. The chicken, very chewy! Overly battered and terrible batter:chicken ratio. With the condensation from the container I was expecting it to be somewhat soft as I've gotten it packaged like this before but this was a terrible encounter with terrible to food to boot. read more

so finally tried here and got the lunch special beef and broccoli with pork fried rice and a small wonton soup. the beef and broccoli was tender and cooked though, not oily or rubbery. wish I had more brown sauce since it was bit skim on it. the pork fried rice was surprising that this first place that rice only had pork bit, no onions,bean threads, green onions or bits of eggs. this was plain and rice itself was a bit tasteless. the roasted pork was of the small quality, usually bits of char sui pork is bright red and has a tangy taste, these pieces were just cooked and not clearly marinated. the wonton soup was very good, it had the perfect amount of meat inside and the wonton dough it did not taste gummy or slimly, the broth was pretty good. the service was very good, only one guy in the whole store making orders and cashiering. he was polite and courtesy and offered utensils to me to eat my order. How do you say 'No soup for you!' in Cantonese? Great Wall has been around for a while. In stating a while, it is a long while, as the place shows a lot of signs of wear and tear. Aside from that, the counter girl is out to get you. Seriously. Order your food and pay. Do not ask for alterations. Do not ask for extra sauce. Do not ask to substitute anything - she is angry. Angry and not wanting to hear your BS of how they got your order wrong. She will destroy you. She is the equivalent of Seinfeld's 'Soup Nazi' but with a wok. The food is typical. Typical of any greasy spoon Chinese restaurant take out joint. There is a huge variety of fare, a great deal for quick hot food. But again, aren't they all. Beware the 15 minutes afterwards, though, MSG usage in this food can play some mind trick on you. Good for them they are the only game in town. Not so good you might have to haul it two the next town over for your server to allow you the privilege of extra fortune cookies and a half assed "I'm happy to serve you' smile. Its a typical fast food Chinese Restaurant...Not much to expect other than being fast and friendly. The food is fine, nothing wrong with it. Much friendlier front end in recent years. Best part about this place is they have a standard steamed dish section and I usually just get the steamed chicken with mixed veggies. The New Great Wall Kitchen is your generic Chinese food place. They have ok food at an ok price. They are all very friendly and I have never had any problems with their meals. I have noticed that their portion sizes are bigger than any of their other Chinese food competitors in the town of New Paltz. My friend and I were at this place and order Pepper steak with onions and some Chicken Chow Mein with steamed rice. My friend's order which was the chicken was very disgusting to the point that he threw it away after the very first bite! Mine on the other hand, was basically onions and no meat. And not only that, but also was TASTELESS! Let me tell you about the service. Well, of course it sucks as well. The Chinese do not want to use debit/credit cards to save up and do not care about the quality of the food/taste. As of the cashier, she was rude and unfriendly. I love this place because it's very traditional, and by that I mean: the service is average, their accents are strong, the place looks super greasy, the cashier is usually rude, and they only accept cash. Asian Fusion tried charging me $8 for a small mixed vegetable with rice while the beef option was only $5 and I told them to shove it! Great Wall only charged me $5 and the portion was reasonable. Been there a couple of times thought they were descent for the area (me being from NYC) Ordered chicken wings with pork fried rice and small order bbq ribs paid $15.80 came home and the smell of the rice was horrible like a wet dog or a bleach like chemical .I called them to more warn them that something's amiss ,she was very polite and took my info for a future small rice. This take-out joint in the Stop & Shop mall mini-mall has been operating in New Paltz for years and probably because there are not many Chinese food options. This place sucks ! We had a menu at home my wife ordered for her I ordered Italian from Rocco's next door . Off I went with my 4 year old , first stop Rocco's and picked up my food with no problems . Second stop Great Wall , I walk in ask for take out order for " David" the guy says " I have 2 orders no name given " . I say " my wife says she put it under David " . He says " no she did not" . What is phone number ? I give him phone number he brings food over and I hand my debit card . He says " cash only " . I tell him I do not have cash with me I have debit card or credit card . He says " go to ATM " . Now there is a little paper sign near the cash register says cash only . I said after my pissed off trip to the ATM WITH A $ 3.00 fee that they should put " CASH ONLY " on their menus . He tells me " I tell your wife on phone cash only " . 2nd time in December and disappointed again. Last time, they put some imitation crab (made of surimi which is waste from fish processing) in the Shrimp w/Lobster Sauce..... I am able to eat shellfish but am allergic to regular fish which is the phony crab (what the hell it was doing in a shrimp dish, I don't know). Yesterday, I wanted to treat my wife so spent $23 for Crispy Fried Wontons- (THEY WERE LIMP, LIKE BOILED IN OIL, NOT CRISPY), a House Special Soup for 2- (THE BROTH TASTED LIKE IT CAME UNIMPROVED OUT OF A CAN OF INSTANT SOUP POWDER AND WAS YUCKY BLAND) which ruined the dish. I also ordered a "Chef's Specialties", Tung-Ting Shrimp "Jumbo Shrimp and mixed Chinese veg. in a white sauce"...... The shrimp were not jumbo, the vegs were okay if not a top quality selection, but the sauce was a no taste version, of lobster sauce, which was poorly done. These people need an intervention from Ching on Food Network to teach them how to cook. We are back in the wastelands, with no decent chinese food in a university town which is a joke. read more
