We've always preferred the personal aspect of banking vs the faceless online corporate banks. So, when we moved to Carson City NV 6 years ago we opened our accounts, personal and business, wit Greater Nevada. For the first two years our experiences were pretty pleasant: nice tellers that recognize you, and go above and beyond to help out. In the last couple of years, however, things have changed. New faces all the time, high turnover is always a red flag, and rule rather than customer oriented. Last year we had one of our accounts compromised, and instead of helping us out, it felt like they made it harder to figure everything out. Endless trips to the branch to prove who we were, " your husband need to come with you" when I was just there the day before, with my ID. In short is was very unhelpful and all the rules were more of a hindrance than helpful. They used to have a video teller service which was very convenient, but when they discontinued that service, again the results were more inconvenience to us. Checks which had been issued and accepted for years were placed on holds because they couldn't find any records of deposit. This time enough is enough and we are moving on. Unless you enjoy being hassled by your banker, my advice, don't patronize these guys. Bad news. read more

We continue to have difficulty with their online system. Either the bill pay system is disabled, or the total online system is disabled. The lines are always long when you go to their south Reno branch, and the teller turnover is constant. You are lucky to find two or three tellers taking customers. I was required to make I a five dollar deposit at CNCU so I could open up a CD account. I opened two CD accounts that I've had for several years. I just received a notice stating that I am inactive and they took my five dollars away. Although I have two CD accounts, of course I can't contact them by telephone and will have to contact them personally I will close my CD accounts as soon as they mature. read more

Just wanted to send a quick review for an assistant Branch Manager at the Greater Nevada Credit Union Mae Anne Branch . I had been trying for months to resolve an issue with my checking account . I had been through numerous phone center calls and had stop by several other branches to attempt to get this issue resolved . Every encounter was met with a " this is our policy" " there is no way around this issue" and a general unwillingness to think out side the box .... Having been a member for over 3 decades I was getting to the point of considering moving financial institutions. I was on my way out of town and thought I would try one more attempt... I tried the twenty somethings at the counter and got blank stares and no help, so I asked to speak to a manager .... I was directed to Assistant Branch Mamager Jennifer Hernandez who actually listened to my problem and within a few minutes came up with a solution !! I was shocked !! Her willingness to to actually listen to the complete problem and think outside the box for a solution was refreshing !! I could not have been more impressed. I hope Greater Nevada continues to to find people who know what the phrase " Customer Service is all about !! Thank you Jennifer !!! You are awesome !! Worst Credit Union ever! Seriously, I've been with other CU's when I lived in another state, but signing up here was a huge mistake. Just do yourself a favor, read the other reviews about this Credit Union, because there's way too many bad ones and there's a reason for that. I closed out my account after a couple years of just nothing but trouble. I'm not even going to go into all the reasons I left, but just know that you may... or may not be able to access your account... you may or may not be able to get your money in a few days after depositing it. They may or may not put a hold on your account for the whole first month of when you open your account... who really knows... nothing is consistent with this bank except bad bad experiences. I don't even like going to the Reno Aces games anymore because I have to stare at the advertising for this crappy Credit Union! read more

A Five Star Banking Experience from Greater Nevada Credit Union off Maeann in Reno. My Mom came in and was welcomed immediately. She sat down at a lovely table to do her banking. Evan, our bank teller was kind and caring and helped print checks for her and get her the cash requested. He was so great at his job. He cared about the service he gave my Mom. The bank was clean and had beautiful reno decor on the walls. Love the rocks! Everyone here works as a team for all the bank customers who came in. This was a Five Star customer service experience as well. If you have not gone into this bank, I suggest you come in and experience their care in banking and customer service. It was the very best. If I could put ZERO stars I would. PLEASE AVOID!!! I know it sounds good but trust me I had the WORST of dealing with GNCU recently, and honestly, it's one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had. Karen and derrick - and team are a complete nightmares. I felt more like an inconvenience than a valued member. They acted as if helping me was a burden and didn't even try to make the process smoother. I called in to get help with a simple application process, and I could hardly get a word in without Karen cutting me off. She seemed disinterested and condescending, making me feel like I was wasting her precious time. When I asked for assistance, she passed me off to someone else who came with the same attitude as she did. It felt like I was jumping through hoops just to get basic information, and no one seemed capable of handling the task. On top of that, the communication was terrible. I had to follow up multiple times before getting any response, and when I finally did, it was a generic, unhelpful answer. It's clear that GNCU doesn't value its members or their time. It's frustrating to deal with a company that promises customer service but delivers absolutely nothing. GNCU is clearly not interested in actually helping their members. If you're looking for an institution that will respect your time and treat you with professionalism, look elsewhere. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place by ALL MEANS. read more

They are just a pain to deal with. Any time I need to dispute anything it's always a hassle. I had emails and receipts and phone logs and it STILL was not enough. I also just recently tried to do a transfer through plaid because Zelle is down for some reason. It says I have to wait for a phone call to verify. Great... so I call and I'm on hold for 15 minutes, just to be told I can't call and verify. They will call me.. when God knows when. SMH. Took a week and a half to even get started on the loan pre approval process. The loan officer never returned any of my phone calls/voicemails. I had to call back multiple times just to get a response. I sent emails to no reply. Absolutely horrendous service. If you want to waste your time getting a loan, come here. read more

I'm sure the supervisor must have been a State employee or IRS employee previously, her attitude was unacceptable. The sad thing she didn't even care or try to be helpful. Poor, poor service. Poorest service here that I have encountered at any branch in town. I opened my accounts at the Vista location and always greeted with a warm smile there and they remember my name, but that's not the case here at this MaeAnne branch. 3 out of 5 visits because their ATM was down outside I've had to deal with their super rude employees that had me second guessing keeping my personal accounts and Estate account open here. If you hate your job so much just quit. I don't want to deal with you anymore than you want to do your job. Didn't use ATM card for a couple of months and they cancelled it without notice. Only to find out while at ATM and in a pinch. Have not had one pleasant experience with GNCU (regardless of branch). I have been banking with GNCU for about 4 years. My experiences in-person have been pleasant, and I do love that they provide a notary free of charge which has come in handy. However, as someone who primarily banks online, I have not been impressed. The customer service team is also nice and pretty helpful, but I don't like how often I have to call them to resolve my issues. Sometimes the customer service team is outsourced to another team who have reduced ability to fix your issues. The website and app are buggy, I have had to call multiple times to get my username and password reset because it's super quick to lock you out and then it forces you to call. My card also randomly stops working and I also have to call if I want to get it unlocked. Maybe it's a fraud alert or something? If so, it would be nice to just get a text message where I could say yes or no on fraud but keep using my card. There's no text or voicemail, it just stops working occasionally until I call to get it unlocked again. The checking account requires you to use your card X times per month, and often I don't use it that much because the card just randomly declines even when there are thousands of dollars in there, so I get charged more than I expected to when I opened the account. I guess it's a millennial thing, but I just don't like having to call during business hours and wait for someone to resolve my issue. I'm usually super busy during business hours, and evenings and weekends are when I have the time to deal with bank errors and service issues. I want to be able to self-service through an online portal to quickly reset my password if the account has been locked or anything like that. They did just add this capability but you still need to have your account number memorized or on hand so this has slightly improved recently. I would prefer to be able to authenticate through my email/phone/username though and not need the account number, some kind of 2FA would be way more secure and easier to self-service as well. I've actually decided to move over to United Credit Union, I'm just tired of paying top dollar ($15/mo!) for a checking account that I can only sometimes use to access my money. I suggest that Greater Nevada Credit Union doubles their IT budget, so they can attract great talent and grow the team to improve their online outcomes. It's going to be the key to your survival in this new digital world. I love to support local credit unions but you guys have to up your game a little to compete! read more

In late Nov 2023, I created an account using the online tools and went through the process, where I attempted to only open a savings account, but mistakenly also opened a checking account, however, declined the debit card, but completed the process. As a result of successfully completing this process, one month later at the end of December, I received a paper statement of this account and found that based on the checking account requirement of using a debit card at least 6 times a month, I was charged a service fee, which caused this checking account balance to be negative, which triggered the $10 a day overdraft fee; after 10 days, the fee was $100. Disclaimer: I created this account and it was and is my responsibility to ensure that all of the details were correct. So, after receiving a letter from GNCU about this issue, I called the 800 customer service number and discussed the details with them, then decided reconcile this matter at this Northwest branch. I explained the details to a teller and the teller spoke with the manager, who said I would have to pay the overdraft fees, before they could refund to me by the end of the day, which I did. However, the fees were NOT refunded to me and I had to go back after 3 days and speak with the same teller. This time, the teller said he would work on refunding the fees to my account, took my number, and promised to call me to confirm the refund, once completed, which he did, a couple of hours later, although only $55 in fees were returned. The reason only $55 was returned: the teller's manager told him this was the maximum he would authorize as the error/mistake was due my fault and I'm responsible to ensure the correctness of my account. The teller followed up with an email, capturing this information and the manager's explanation. I read the email and called GNCU customer service, where I was greeted by an individual who confirmed my identity, account, and reviewed the information, then PROMPTLY refund the entire overdraft fee amount, closed the unwanted checking account, apologized for the matter, asked which branch I visited, and said he hoped I would continue to be a GNCU member, even though my initial experience was not pleasant. So, while obviously not all GNCU personnel are they same, this branch teller's manager decision varied from the customer service agent, which is why I chose to write this review and highlight the discrepancy: GNCU seems fine to me, however, your experience at the individual branch may vary, so please be aware of this possibility when you decide which branch to use.... read more

This bank, in whole, can fuck off. I cancelled my auto monthly payment for my car as I got a new one and they still charged me for the following months. I've contacted customer service numerous times and they've been no help, so they would set me up with an appointment in store. Once I go into the branch, they are confused and don't know what to do so they call customer service and they say I need to contact them. It's like running around a wheel while they take my money. First, their Covid-19 precautions are a joke. I saw no hand sanitizer or cleaning between member transactions. Marcus, who "helped" me wore his mask under his nose unless his manager was watching. I'm all for employees receiving training but, perhaps not learning to close an account for a deceased member when it takes 40 minutes and numerous mistakes. A stressful situation was made more stressful with repeated "computer errors" requiring resigning and and reentering of information. One star and I hope to never need to return. read more

I have been contacting this brand and the customer service branch since October when I paid off my loan. I never received the first letter when paying off my loan. I've made numerous calls and everyone seems to give me the run around. First it was to request the title through the DMV - DMV stated they can't release it because the vehicle still has a lien - I called again the beginning of this month advising what was mentioned and they stated they will send a letter regarding this to have it resolved on 1/4/2024 it's 1/22/2024 and still no letter especially when I asked if it could be sent to a different address to ensure it gets received they said they couldn't make any changes and will be mailed. My dad went in today and they states I had to request a duplicate title if I didn't receive the first one, however, I can't request that when AGAIN the lien is still on the vehicle. It's over 5 months. I've never gotten a loan through them and I will NEVER do it again. Very poor customer service from every single person I've been in contact with them more than 5 times and that's insane and excessive. read more

I was told I'd be treated better if banking with a credit union, and left Wells Fargo after 20 years. Boy, do I regret that decision. GNCU refused to deposit a check solely because it was a counter-issued check from a newly opened account, which we all use when we get a new account.. It had all the required information, but they told me for 'my protection' they could not even try to deposit the funds, which is BS because the check was coming from my attorney, from a law firm IOLTA account. Not only did they refuse to try the deposit, but were also disrespectful and didn't seem to have any empathy that my first income in months is 'worthless'. I've never been refused a deposit bc of a counter-issued check from a new account. If that were a thing, banks wouldn't issue them at all. Super disappointed in GNCU. I have to add - that in the meantime, they believed the lady next to me who said she deposited $400 in cash to the atm deposit, when the atm only showed she deposited $200. It seems way less likely to me that an ATM miscalculated $200, but sure, a law firm is trying to commit check fraud. More to the story - I left and deposited a small amount of cash at the atm, and must've left my card in the atm machine in my frazzle because I couldn't find it later. I called to check if they know if it's been eaten. They said they would not be servicing the atm until FRIDAY! So, apparently if the atm DID miscalculate that lady's $400 as $200, the atm won't even be serviced for 3 more days. As for my check, I went to a bank, they cashed it, it was easy, no fuss, no holds, no arguing about the check being counter-issued, no problems with the check. read more

Beware of fees. Signed up for a checking account and personal line of credit, not realizing the checking generated a $15 fee, which triggered overdraft fees from the line of credit. All told nearly $400 in fees in 6 months. The branch would only refund $35 of these, with an extra $35 after a second visit to try to fix this and speaking to a manager. Friendly and entirely unhelpful staff. Closed all accounts, $330 poorer now. Feels a bit predatory and I will certainly never do business with GNCU again. Of course, with that kind of fee income from their customers, they'll stay in business forever. Can I add a negative sign in front of my 1 star? This credit union is the only business who writes loans and doesn't send a monthly statement or statement book then charges 15 for a late fee as a payment reminder when you don't receive a payment notification in the mail (traditional or electronic). I'm paying my loan off 4 years and 6 months early so I never have to deal with these people again. You don't deserve my business and I caution others to avoid GNCU and explore other options. I switched to this bank based on their aspire checking offer of 3.9% back which would net a lot over the course of a year. After a month they dropped it to 2.9, then 1.9, while also reducing the amount of money that qualified. In addition to the bait and switch their fees are quite high and every visit to the bank has had a line out the door that took about 20 minutes to reach a teller. The atm is slow and out of date, the app is is not as good or useful as other banks, and the tellers system seems to take a lot of switching back and forth between pages and typing with the result of extended service time to complete even the most minor requests. The only redeeming factor is that the employees seem well trained and customer service has been good. read more

We deposited our tax refund check at the Mae Anne branch of Greater Nevada Credit Union. The check was subsequently returned due to being improperly endorsed (which was totally our fault) , however the way the branch chose to do the return was to hold the check for two days and then mail it back. They never called us to notify us that the check was being returned. We found out about this after the fact by persistently calling the customer service line. We waited the 7-10 business days for the endorsed check to show up in the mail. I called the customer service line and asked for an update on the return and was told that I would get a call from the branch the following day. Naturally, that call came when I was busy at work and I missed it. No message was left. I called the number back immediately and got the customer service department again. I explained that I was trying to reach a branch manager or specialist at the Mae Anne branch and was told again that I would get a call the next day. I did not receive a call the following day. Today (Saturday), I called customer service and I was told that there was no one available who had access to information about the check and that I would need to go into the branch to get it resolved. I went to the branch and asked to speak to a manager. The gentleman I spoke with was polite, but what he told us was that the endorsed check was mailed to our old address. We updated our address in person at the branch shortly after moving, including bringing in mail to verify our new address. Our current address was on the check, and our phone number hasn't changed. Our current address is also on our driver's licenses, which makes me question what it is they are verifying when they check our ID prior to account access. I asked the manager what we could do to resolve this issue and he told that not only is there nobody available at that branch that can help but that in the entire credit union there was nobody he could reach on a Saturday with the authority to help. He also explained that they only call on returning checks in cases where its a significant amount (a tax return sufficient to put badly needed brakes on my car seems significant), or if as a result of the return the account becomes so overdrawn that recovery is unlikely. So here we are, two weeks out, and my money is gone somewhere. A random endorsed check showing up in the mail might just be a nice gift for someone. At any point in this entire course of events, a phone call could have resolved it. If they called during the two days when they decided not to accept the check, we could have fixed it. If they had noted that the address on the check was different and called to verify, they could have fixed it. If they had called me back after I tried to get information out of the branch, we could have fixed it. However, at every turn GNCU acted like a large financial institution. The whole point of accepting the limitation of a smaller bank is that customers are paramount and bank staff are available. I guess that GNCU is now a big enough bank to pick which customers to help and how available the staff are to help. I am expecting a resolution Monday. In any case, I will be closing my accounts at GNCU. My first bank account was at GNCU, but now they're just another bank, and that's the last thing I need. read more

worst bank ever. we moved across country and the bank isn't there. not able nor is it practical to stick with them. This "institution" has done everything in its negligence and greed to delay the final closing. meanwhile as my account need to be at zero to close it. Some fees snuck through days after we requested it get closed and nobody informed us that they were not able to close the account. I used to do cash deposits here, and I would always count my total before depositing. Even though my bills were always organized with straps, for some reason my total would always come up short a few hundred dollars than what I counted. I have been with GNCU since 2013 and will no longer be a member with them. I had a woman steal card information for a card that should have been deactivated almost 8 months ago, seeing as I have been using my ACTIVE card for the last 8 months. She stole $300 from my account, on a Sunday. She had groceries delivered to her house, in TEXAS, when I live in Reno. I tried disputing this and the man I spoke to in the fraud department told me the most he could do is get me a provisional credit, but it may take up to 10 business days. So I ask if I can get it sooner, seeing as I have a baby and bills that need to be paid. He then asks what bills I have, and when I tell him how much one bill was, he replied with, "well even if you had the $300 you wouldn't be able to pay for that." I'm sorry, what? This is MY MONEY, and I'm basically having to beg these people to get it back to me, and then they suggest pulling it out of my savings. I will no longer be using this credit union. Once I receive my money in the next 10 business days, I will be taking every last cent I have and closing my account. Thanks for nothing. read more
