My advise is to always call the establishment before you make your way to the restaurant . The food is great but I strongly advise NEVER to visit the establishment till you call and verify what they are serving I traveled from downtown Manhattan to order some food. Got there at 12 on a Tuesday. Walked in, said they weren't ready to open. I looked at them scratching my head. Their customer service is okay. They tried to want to make it up to me. But the problem is, you're not 5 star. Red lobster doesn't say lobster be ready at 2pm when they're open at 10. but if you're going to be open at 12 ...,be open and functioning like a real operation at 12. Tried of supporting black business that run unprofessionally. Makes no sense. You're not canceled. But you'll never be first choice. You're not open on Monday, Tuesday at 12 you are ready to be open. The meat was cooked very well and was tender and fell off the bones. The sides were very good too. Don't live in New York. Staying in the Harlem area and were told we have to get Caribbean food from the area. This place is it. We ordered the ox tails and the jerk chicken both were spectacular! Side wise the yams and the Mac and cheese were to die for. The cabbage is also good. The greens are average. The owners are friendly and just overall a good experience. My turkey wings were literally just falling off the bone, the Mac and cheese was so rich and flavorful and the greens were perfection. However I ordered off of grubhub and when the food arrived the oxtails and Mac were burnt. I immediately complaint through grubhub and the restaurant denied a refund because they were sure about the quality of their food. The thing is I didn't want a refund I wanted a new order. Tried this place for take out for the first time. I work in the area and am always on the look out for good food at reasonable prices for lunch. Since its specialty is Caribbean I had to have the oxtail with the rice and peas. My first choice of collard greens was not available but the cabbage was a tasty but sweet substitute. The oxtail had an adequate amount of browning, mandatory for Jamaican style oxtail. It was sweet and savory all at the same time. I must've had at least 6 pieces of meaty oxtail but could only finish 3 pieces and 1/3 of the rice. This small size only set me back $10 and since I can make a second meal with my leftovers, that's $5 for each lunch. There are interesting brunch items that I want to come back to try on the weekend when they're only available like shrimp and grits and salmon cakes. The fried chicken is also a barometer of a good Harlem establishment because almost every eatery has their version. That'll be my next lunch choice and maybe mac salad to see how it compares to my famous Hawaii recipe. Glad Greedy Pot is here and serving my favorite hearty fare! read more
