tl;dr, Green Air was an excellent partner on a complex project. We're very glad we went with them, and would do so again. We did a whole-house electrification--solar, battery, new smart panel, EV charger, wiring for an induction stove, and replacing our furnace with a heat pump. It took a year of planning and then another year to complete, and overall it went very well. We're ecstatic with the final result. Our house is 98 years old and we had to contend with multiple layers of outdated and sometimes poorly done prior work. Unlike some installers who will only work on a blank slate, Green Air was willing to deal with the house as it is. In some cases this meant replacing things (ie old knob and tube), in others working around them. They were flexible, and cool with scheduling the work so we could spread out the cost. The team was great to work with-Nick is high-energy and happy to talk through details to whatever level you want-his initial plan was solid and we could have just signed off and gotten a good outcome, but I'm an energy geek and wanted to learn as much as I could from the process. Nick was happy to oblige-he's a font of knowledge, and it's a pleasure to go deep on energy with a former nuclear engineer. The true measure of service isn't when things are easy, it's how someone responds to challenges, and that's probably the best endorsement for Green Air. After install there was a repeat issue with the solar shutting itself down seemingly at random. It turned out to be a Tesla equipment malfunction, but Fran, who led the solar team, came out repeatedly to troubleshoot until it was resolved-we never felt abandoned, and it was clear they wanted it fixed as much as we did. Once the underlying cause was found it's worked flawlessly since. Our house now produces more energy than it consumes on an annual basis, and daily for most of the year, including charging our car. We had our gas shut off and don't use any fossil fuels directly, which was the goal. It wasn't cheap, but having a single contractor do it was less than if we'd done each project with separate contractors. For anyone interested in reducing their emissions, with rebates and planning it can be done cost-effectively, and you don't have to do the full monty to make a big difference. Make sure you have the wiring in place in advance, and then as appliances fail, replace them with efficient electric ones. Solar will eventually pay for itself, especially paired with a battery, even with California's new net metering laws, and there's good financing available if you can't/don't want to pay upfront. You can insulate yourself from PG&E's constant rate hikes, have protection from outages, and feel great about reducing your emissions. Highly recommend the whole endeavor, and Green Air was a great partner for it. read more

I used a local service company for a furnace problem, and after 6 weeks & $3000, they could not fix it and wanted another $5000 for a new 2 stage heater (much lower capability than my system). I decided to contact Green Air who originally installed my furnace, and they sent Ben (service tech) who was able to troubleshoot the problem and have it up & running in 20 minutes. I was even able to get $1500 from the other company as the original blower was never the problem. This company is the worst i have done business with in years. they installed two all heater in two year and have been to my house about 20 times. they don't call , they don't fix things, they only make things worse and the refuse to repair the messes they create. it is terrible. now i have a very dangerous situation with my heater and they refuse to do a thing. read more

This is a cautionary tale that you confirm you are being serviced by Green Air. I received a phone call from someone "claiming" to be Green Air. She said she was calling to schedule an annual inspection of my HVAC system. I just had my HVAC system replaced in April by another company so I questioned her. She said Green Air handles all the inspection work for the company that installed my system. So, I booked an appointment. It still didn't sit right with me so I phoned the company that installed the system to confirm she contacted me on their behalf.....they confirmed they handle their own inspections. I googled Green Air and called them. I spoke to the owner, Brian who explained the person that called me is a scamming group using Green Air's name. Apparently this scammer has been representing themselves as Green Air and other reputable companies. The technicians they send will either do shoddy work or try to convince the homeowner they need something they don't or they just don't show up for the appointment. Since I had already made the appointment, Brian asked if he could have a member of his team be at my house when the technician arrived to confront them on the use of the Green Air name and I would video the interaction. The hope was to discourage these scammers and hold them accountable. The plan was set, Jay from Green Air arrived and parked down the street waiting for their arrival. Unfortunately.....the technician never showed. Be careful out there, make sure who you're dealing with and always confirm directly with Green Air before scheduling. read more

I chose Green air and Solar to do a solar install. Nick, the owner, is very attentive until you sign the contract, and then he's MIA. I've had nothing but problems from the install date to the billing. Instead of communication, there is just blame at the client. I would not recommend this company. read more

My family and I have lived in Concord for about 4 years with NO air conditioning! Green Air was recommended to us by my husband's co-worker who recently had solar installed by Green Air. They came highly recommended! They not only install solar, they also provide HVAC installs. Our house is old, no HVAC ducts, just wall heaters (terrible!). Nick, the owner of Green Air came to our house for a quote, at first we were all in for HVAC with duct work. Well Nick gave us a quote for traditional (ducted) HVAC and ductless HVAC with solar. Nick's quote was too good to pass up. We ended with ductless HVAC and solar. Nick had great communication skills that my husband and I did not feel pressured or "out of the loop" . He made sure that all our questions and concerns were addressed before the project started. His crew came on time every day and they treated our house with respect. I observed the crew work well with one another (great team chemistry). They did a "clean cut" job and were very efficient. Nick followed up with us everyday of the project. He made sure that we were completely satisfied with the outcome of our project. We now have ductless Air conditioning and Heating throughout our home. Also we have solar as well. Our ductless system is powered fully by electricity therefore cutting down on our gas bill. Our solar will help decrease our electricity bill, too. Although many may shy away from a ductless system, due to the units that hang on the wall. I personally don't mind at all since I grew up in the Philippines and these systems are very common in Asia, per Nick they are also quite popular in Europe too. Sad to say choosing this company was a huge mistake. After 4 years our system failed. When it came to serving the warranty the owner Nick became extremely rude and condescending. He blamed everything on the parts manufacture Solar Edge. He felt we should have been appreciative that he came out to service our system in weeks vs months. After months of fighting with solar edge, we received a refurbished Inverter. Nick came out and installed it and we instantly began blowing fuses every couple days. Nicks solution was that I personally should constantly change the fuses every few days. I told him that wasn't acceptable. He then threatened to charge us labor for him to come out and change fuses rather then fix the problem. Then he blamed it on Pg&E. PG&E came out and confirmed it was a faulty inverter/install. Nick wanted us to buy another inverter even though the original was under warranty. He became frustrated with us and refuses to accept our phone calls or emails. We've had to resort to choosing a new company to come fix our system and pay for additional labor. The new company came out, fixed the problem and pointed out all Nicks faulty install issues. We chose him because he gave us a great deal and seemed honest. Unfortunately we were wrong. Now we have to decide if we are going to take him to court to get our money back or just eat the cost. We bought a new house and have been remodeling for the past year. We've worked with several contractors during the project and continue to be impressed by Nick and the Green Air team. Here are a few reasons we had a great experience with Green Air: 1. Nick is a hands-on owner and operator. He scoped and bid on the work himself and would visit the job site often to ensure everything was going as planned. If there was ever a question or issue, Nick would come himself to answer it. 2. Honesty, Integrity, & Quality: Nick is honest and keeps his promises. At one point during the job Nick noticed a line-set was just slightly off in size. I would have never noticed this and it probably wouldn't have had much impact on our system. However Nick saw it, pointed it out, and insisted on having his team come out to replace the line-set without charge. 3. Takes ownership of issues: At one point during the job, we received some bad equipment from the manufacturer (not Nick's fault). Nick noticed the equipment wasn't working right and insisted on replacing it. However the manufacturer said they wouldn't give Nick a refund on the equipment until he returned the original unit to them for testing and evaluation. Nick could have easily passed that problem along to me, leaving me without a system for a few weeks while the manufacturer evaluated it and made a decision on replacement. However Nick didn't want us to be uncomfortable. He used his own funds to purchase a new system for me, and then waited months for the manufacturer to test the faulty system and provide a refund to Green Air. Nick never charged me for that - he just did it. 4. Leading technology: I like to stay up to date on emerging technologies. Nick is the same way. Every other vendor who bid on my job recommended the same old system I've been seen in homes for the past few decades. Nick and Green Air were the only ones who recommended a newer technology that has recently hit the U.S. market. The system they installed for us is much quieter, more efficient, and configurable than anything I've seen in other homes. Nick stays up to date on new technologies so he can offer the newest and most forward thinking solutions to his customers. The same was true of his solar offerings. 5. Cross-platform solutions. Not only does Green Air do HVAC, they also offer solar. They did a great job installing in our solar, which now powers most of our HVAC needs as well. We are expecting big energy savings due to this, which should eventually amortize the cost of our system. Green Air keeps an eye on our energy production via a remote app so they can ensure optimal performance of our solar panels, and gave us an app that allows us to keep an eye on it as well. 6. Great team: We've had visits from with 5 or 6 different technicians from Green Air during construction and installation. Each is knowledgeable, customer oriented, careful, courteous, and extremely professional. It's been a true pleasure to work with Nick and his team. I wish they built entire homes since they are far superior to my General Contractor (which is a whole other story!) I've been recommending Nick and Green Air to everyone I know. Nick and his right hand partner Travis handled our solar conversion in Santa Cruz. They were always on time, always professional and did an outstanding job for us. Our roof angles and tilts proved challenging to capitalize on the solar output, but their careful planning and timely follow thru delivered a home virtually free of any needed PG&E supplement. We had our old gravity furnace replaced about 3 years ago (sorry for the late review). The guys at Green Air were professional, reasonable and quick. We had old asbestos ducts, they arranged for the asbestos guys to come out and they worked closely with the city of Alameda to make sure all permits needed were in place. Nick and crew were great, there was a minor issue that they kept working on late into the evening until everything was 100% before they left. We recently had a follow up service and they were very efficient about that as well. We are very happy to have heat and we always recommend Green Air. read more

Green Air gets the work done on time, in budget, and the final installation will exceed your expectations. Nick uses his professional knowledge to make improvements your wouldn't even know to ask for. He takes full responsibility for even tiny issues, and will not just drop unfinished or unsatisfactory aspects in your lap. As other reviewers have mentioned, he stays on top of current technology and will offer the best possible solution for your home. In 2018, I was looking to increase my solar generation and also to add air conditioning to our home. Our home has radiant heat and no air ducts, so A/C was not a simple task. I had multiple contractors out for both jobs. Nick was the only one able to do both. Because our A/C situation was not straightforward, many companies refused to even bid or suggest a solution. Of the ones that did, we had a real variety - a couple wanted to add ducts and do HVAC. A couple suggested mini-splits, which are more power efficient, but don't look great. Nick's solution for A/C was by far the best - we ended up using mini-splits that are hidden in our wall. Mini-splits provide A/C only to the rooms where we need it, thus saving a lot on power load. And because Nick was able to embed the units in our walls, we don't have any equipment visible, so they are much more aesthetically pleasing that a old-style mini-split. The technology for these was new, but was offered by a Japanese company with a long history in A/C technology (Daikin). We've been using them for a year and could not be more delighted. For the solar, Nick offered a competitive price and technology. Because he has a background in roofing, he's super careful and knowledgeable. You can trust him not to make mistakes that will cause you to end up with leaks. Maybe the best thing Nick did for us was to suggest something we hadn't even considered - Powerwalls. Nick suggested them adding them to our system. Nick was helpful in explaining how the tax incentives and SGIP program reduced the final cost less than half of the sticker price. We decided to go ahead with them, and are so happy we did. In the last year, power has been cut to our area five different times. I only know that the power was cut because my neighbors told me and because the Powerwalls send me a message letting me know they are providing power to my house. Each of the five times power has gone out, the Powerwall has taken over seamlessly. We have full electricity and internet. PG&E has warned they might need to cut power again this week due to fire risk. I am so thankful to Nick's foresight in suggesting the Powerwalls as part of our solution. Finally, Nick and his team are so pleasant and easy to work with. Usually when contractors are working in your home, you wake up every morning with a little bit dread. On a Friday a few weeks ago, the first day of a weeklong heat wave, we had the good fortune for our a/c to break down. The fan at the condenser was running, but we weren't getting cold air. Usually freon leaks will be gradual, and since we had been getting nice cold air just prior, I thought maybe it could be the fuses so I changed the ones at the disconnect box, but still no cold air. All the highly-ranked companies on Yelp (incl Green Air) didn't have techs available, so went to the phone book and did find a company that could send someone out. Tech did show up and after little to no "actual" trouble-shooting told me compressor was bad...sure, it wasn't running, but that doesn't mean the compressor is broken. He also flat-out lied about capacitors (he said they were fine), and proceeded to try to sell me a new compressor, or new condenser unit, or even a complete new system including furnace, ductwork, etc. I declined, and luckily later that night Nick from Green Air called, saying he had been out of town but could come by the next day (Saturday). We were at a swim meet, and before we even got home Nick called us to tell us it WAS the compressor capacitor...he had replaced it and we were back up an running. We DO have an old system, and Nick could have put the hard sell on us, but he was honest and told us we could get by with these minor fixes until such time we're ready to upgrade. I had my furnace malfunction and needed a new replacement, and Nick came out to review the setup and present options. He presented me with the most efficient unit available, at an excellent price. Additionally, he showed me options for a hybrid just-in-time water heater, so I opted for that as well. The install was quick, and the service was phenomenal. Nick also did some extra duct work for us connecting and moving our ventilator unit, and the new arrangement and smaller water heater reduced the footprint of all our equipment. Obviously hesitant for numerous reasons, I contacted Nick. Nick came out and provided an honest assessment of our ductwork. He didn't try to get us involved with anything we didn't need, such as trying to sell us a product/solution that would cost more than the value it provided our house. We live in an old condo building with virtually useless baseboard heaters. The last few winters have been pretty cold, so we finally decided to research upgrading our heating (and cooling!) options.
