I don't even know where to start. This place is a dump with a real restaurant prices. The prices are not high but you might as well eat at China express for less and at least you know it's fresh. The menu page is old and beat and it looked as it was printed before most of us were born. I ordered the cashue chicken. The price on the menu was $8 but they charge $10 without even explaining why. When I asked the waitress said two words: "prices changed" The food smelled funny and not fresh. I wasn't food sure is the dish was Mexican-style dish, Indian, or something unfamiliar to me. There is not much to say about the service. The waitress is also the bus boy and hostes. The best Papaya Salad I've ever had. Green Curry is so good, as is Pad Kee Mao (Drunken Noodles) I found the other currys to be a tiny bit on the sweet side for my taste. One of the better Thai spots in the area. The dishes look very presentable. This is mainly because the veggies look super fresh and the dishes are well prepared. There is plenty of street parking on top of the plaza parking behind the restaurant. It's my new favorite lunch spot around the area. I was in the mood to give a stellar review to a restaurant that really deserves it off the back of a poor review I just gave to a different restaurant tonight (which also deserved it!). My family eats a lot of Thai food, because we all love it and I am a vegan by diet for many years now so Thai food has a lot of options for me. Everything here is great, fantastic even. Soups are all very tasty, and not too salty which is often the downfall of many Thai restaurants. I always get green curry here with tofu. It's marvelous!! The curry is aromatic and full of flavor. Jasmine rice here also superb. Thai spring rolls delIcious. It's a can't-miss menu!! Prices are good, usually pretty quiet so no problem getting a table at this small place, and the people working here very friendly. Seems to have usual customers who know good food. I would travel a good distance for this restaurant. 20 minute car ride wouldn't make me blink for good food (and that's saying alot with the price of gas these days!), and this spot is worth the trip. My kids literally get excited when I suggest we go to Green Basil for dinner. It's a treat for all of us!This is our new go-to Thai place, hands down the best in the area! I drove 2 hours to reunite with a really close friend I haven't seen in six or so years, and let me tell you that this place keeps true to their reviews. The pad thai noodles and the spicy fried rice were definitely worth the drive! The lady who served us was also very nice and helpful, the food came out at a fast pace, and the general environment was chill. The restaurant isn't that big its more on the smaller side, but because of this to me personally I believe this place to be more family friendly which enabled me to have a conversation without the disturbance of other voices in the background possibly overpowering mine. Since when is it a crime to ask for a regular glass for water? Horrible service from guy behind counter. He acted like he was doing us a big favor to wait on us. They serve water in little metal urns. We had to ask for a regular glass 4 times and he would not bring it! We even went up to the counter and said just give us a glass, we'll put the water in. Then finally he brought the glass o er after he did everything else under the sun. Later we asked for some peanut dressing for the salad and he argued with us that there was already dressing on there. Had to beg for dressing. We will not be back. You know, after living the last 13 years in this Godforsaken town, and spending at least the last 7-8 years thinking I'll never find really good Thai food around these parts on the cheap, I've FINALLY been proven wrong. And I'm glad I'm wrong, just not under the circumstances in which my wrong-thinking came. This place happens to be within walking distance from my office which means I'm a creature of habit and don't venture off the beaten path enough. I also don't like the fact that my boss has been telling me forever that this place is great and I've ignored him this whole time. I don't know why I ignore his ass, my boss tends to be right about 99.9999% of everything in life. So I went here the other day with my boss and I pretty much died out of happiness, if that's at all possible. Okay, so I've never been to Thailand. Okay, so I'm not Thai and I didn't grow up eating Thai food. I know what it's like having traveled or being of a certain culture and eating at a restaurant that's supposed to be as authentic as can be and it's not. So I'm not going to sit here and say it's authentic (like I do my Chinese place, Hot Wok, after being a regular customer for a gazillion years and taking the time to know the family that runs it and learning what's authentic and what's not, and how it all differs) --- but you know what, Green Basil nails it when it comes to what I've known to be Thai food. I always get excited to see duck on a menu of a restaurant, especially when anything duck doesn't cost more than $10.00. I can beautifully butcher a whole duck in less than 5 minutes, I know how much meat is on the average duck and I know how much the average duck costs. To see the equivalent of a whole duck breast on a plate (although sliced with some thigh meat mixed in) with fresh herbs, veggies and cashews warms my cold, black heart. It really does. It warms it in ways that I cannot put in to words, but basically when there's duck meat in my face I drool out of every orifice in my body. It's true - and I don't care how disgusting that sounds. As a Cuban-Spaniard where duck doesn't really exist in the cuisine, I'm not sure where my deep love of duck meat came from, but just know it's there. It's sick - sick I tell you. The roasted duck meat salad is fucking awesome. That's all I really have to say about that. My boss ordered the lunch special - which was a bowl of yellow curry with chicken, pad thai, a side salad and rice. It was a ton of food for $7.00. REALLY? Can't beat it. For the serving size and quality, I dare you to find something better and a better price. My boss cleaned the plate. Well, minus the shredded carrots because he hates carrots and that's a crazy person personal issue... I mean, who hates harmless carrots? The point is, this place rocks. I'm glad I listened to my boss and finally came to this place. I can't wait to come back and try their curries, pad thai and other dishes. yum. :) Oh - and if you have the opportunity to sit outside on a nice day, do it. It's quiet, isn't full of monkeys in suits and the tables are spaced out far enough from each other that there's plenty of personal space for dirty conversation. Um... Not that I was participating in it with my freaking boss, but because I plan on going back and taking advantage of the fact that I CAN have said dirty convos without offending anyone. read more

Just like most of the other reviews: great food/poor service. I tried to go to lunch here, but was TURNED AWAY because I was only 1 person and the only available table was a 4-top! So, the 2 guys that walked in AFTER me got to sit down and eat. They did offer to sit me outside. NOTE: it's 107 degrees and I would be the only person sitting outside. Other than that, they offered no other suggestions--they let me walk out the door. They could learn a thing or two about customer service. I typically order lunch Togo and have learned my lesson--do not attempt to dine in if you are only 1 person. This place is good. I am extra happy with this place though because... they accept card for any amount...and I rarely, if ever... carry cash. My usual Thai place requires you to spend $15 or more... so when it's just me eating.. I usually don't make it to that amount. So after an extra long day at work, I decided to treat myself to some pad thai.. and since this place is a stone's throw away from work...and it was a place I'd always wanted to try... I decided to go. I was not disappointed. In fact, I had high expectations and I was still happily delighted that this place exceeded them. The Thai Iced Tea... It was gooooood! Sadly, I finished it rather quickly... but nonetheless, it was good. So if I get an insatiable craving for it before work, I know where to go. I had Chicken Pad Thai... which was soooooo good! First of all, they made it fast fast fast! I got my food in about 5 minutes..and it was hot! Piping hot! So much so that it was still very hot as I got it home. It tasted amazing too. On a side note: The Pad Thai here comes with chicken and shrimp. I skipped the shrimp because.. meh. I didn't want to change what I already know that I like.... but I was kind of impressed that they do use shrimp. Very reasonable prices. Super fast and friendly service...and the to-go orders are packed in reusable microwave safe plastic containers... which is a plus for me. So not only was I able to take the remainder, microwave it and eat it at work today... but I can also reuse the container. Yay! I will undoubtedly be back! read more

The owners are very nice and go out of their way to make the food extra spicy for me anytime that I go there. The staff is nice and friendly as well as professional. They are prompt, courteous and make the effort to assure your food is done the way you like it. They have some of the best Phad Thai that I have tasted in the US. EXCELLENT LUNCH SPECIALS - the price is fantastic, the food meets my quick sit down Thai standards, and the atmosphere allowed for an old college friend and I to have a wonderful reunion. We had great chicken satay (I'm a huge peanut sauce fan) and vegetable roll appetizers. It was excellent to read that their lunch special was only $7 and it came not only with rice and salad, but also a second main food choice. I can get board easily while eating if there isn't a plethora of tastes on my plate. So these specials made my lunch even more enjoyable. I choose the Green Curry - which I have never had a bad experience with yet (a great choice at Green Basil as well) along with the BBQ. Turns out the chicken was just a quarter of a chicken - BBQed Thai style. I loved the flavor but it was a bit dry on the inside. My friend had the Pad Thai - excellent as well, as this is my second favorite ... a little dry, although I did dig in after I had filled myself off of my own portions of the lunch... The staff was great. We ended up talking and catching up for three and a half hours. These people were very patient with us when it came to paying, made sure that our water glasses were never half empty. Tasty little thai spot in calabasas! It's located in a small strip mall right across from Malibu canyon apartments. It's pretty small, so I would say more of a take out place, although there are a few tables inside to sit down and be served. The woman who was working when I went was super nice and seemed really appreciative of her customers. They have all the traditional Thai fare, and from what I can tell, it is all delicious- and cheap! I recommend the Thom ka gai ( sweet and sour coconut milk soup with veggies- you can get it regular with chicken or for a dollar or two more you can get it with shrimp! ) the pad see ew is also delicious, with the meat of your choice, for only eight bucks! It took about fifteen minutes from the time I ordered to the time I walked out with my food. If you're looking for something quick and tasty other than pizza or past food in this area of calabasas , definitely check it out! read more

Green Basil has exceptional Thai food. It is recommended to get the food to go and you will have to check their website in the absence of to go menus. The ambience and service is almost non-existent and you should call in advance to ensure they are open as they indiscriminately close and open at various times unannounced. And don't even think about showing up after 9 pm. If you are lucky enough to place and pick up an order you will be pleasantly surprised! For soup lovers the Tom Yung Goong (spicy shrimp soup with lemongrass) is amazing as is the chicken Larb salad and the Thai spicy chicken. Eggplant Broccoli and Rice dishes delight the palate as well. Talk about Yummy! P.S. If you need ambience try Anajak in Sherman Oaks. If I could, this would get 6 STARS - MINIMUM! A small un-assuming 'hole in the wall' establishment, way off the well trodden track, this little neighbourhood GEM is well worth a visit. We found ourselves in 'the back of beyond' one lunchtime, trying to find a car for sale which was advertised on Craigslist. We didn't buy the car, but boy, did we enjoy our lunch! There is a small 'mall' or probably more accurately a 'row of business' establishments on the left side of N. Las Virgenes road just before you reach Thousand Oaks Blvd, and just a couple of miles from the 101 Freeway, these are mainly eateries of various flavours and styles, and this little Thai cafe is one. Rather than the special luncheon, which is remarkable value at around $7, we had the Cashew nut Chicken with brown rice from the a la carte. Just the one to share, as, now we are getting older, we prefer quality to quantity. Wow! Served in a large white dish within minutes of ordering by a lovely Thai lady with a gorgeous smile and fantastic friendly attitude. This is 'died and gone to heaven stuff' - Sooooooo tasty! - in fact my taste buds went into party mode - everything perfectly and freshly cooked exactly right. We had Perrier water to drink and the whole bill was around $10! Needless to say we left a good tip and our undying gratitude. Will we return? You're darn tootin' we will, AND we will bring friends and family! Excellent! read more

I ordered take out tonight of Green Curry with chicken, Pineapple Curry with shrimp and Chow Mein with vegetables. Both curries tasted watered down and had very little vegetables or proteins. In fact, they were very thin soups with perhaps 1/4 cup of solids. The Chow Mein was perhaps 1 1/2 cup total. Barely enough to cover the bottom of the container.
