Cool outdoor bar and the live music can be great, but what I've seen there recently is completely unacceptable. On multiple weekend nights after dark, I observed large groups of people who appeared to be under 21 entering the bar and purchasing alcohol. What stood out most was that IDs were not being scanned at the door. From what I witnessed, staff were simply glancing at IDs, if they were checked at all, before allowing people inside and serving drinks. For a business serving alcohol, proper age verification should be a basic responsibility. Instead, there seems to be a complete disregard for it. The atmosphere has gone downhill because of it, and it's alarming to watch what appears to be underage drinking taking place so openly. Management needs to address this immediately. If these practices continue, I sincerely hope local authorities investigate the situation and ensure the establishment is complying with the laws designed to protect both patrons and the community. read more

I've been to GKG many times. I've NEVER had to pay a cover. Last week a friend of mine and I went to seee a band on the Patio. I called earlier that day and spoke to a live person to make a reservation. I specifically said I wanted to sit outside on the Patio. They took my name and number and that was that. When we showed up they said there was a $10 cover, per person. I was shocked and pretty pissed. I asked, even if we are having dinner? the woman was pretty snarky and responded, well if you showed up at 3 it could have been free. The reservation was for 6:30. I totally understand that if you are nt spending money on dinner, then there could be a cover, but the fact that I was spending money to eat and drink there, the cover should have been waived or at the very least been mentioned at the time of the reservation. The bartenders are great especially Jojo, Sammi and Ciara as well as the other bartenders and staff. If you enjoy seeing live bands this is the place to be Thursday, Friday, Saturday and yes Sunday. We sat outdoors , plenty of space, nice and chill vibe with music and string lights, some outdoor games etc. Our server was friendly and helpful. We ordered a lot of food - Wings, Fries, Chicken fingers, Spring rolls, Burgers, Vodka Pasta, Enchiladas, fish taco and more. Overall I would rate the food 3/5, it does the job but nothing great. Came here for a quick bite to eat around lunchtime. Sat outside, as it was a warm day and relatively empty. Nice vibe, they had music playing and a bar. Since it was empty and the outdoor area was enclosed, kids had a chance to run around. They had a huge Connect 4 game, some been bag concoction and one other game. My daughter and I played Connect 4 for quite awhile. For lunch, I ordered the fish tacos with flour tortilla instead of corn. It was pretty good! fish was a tad dry tho, and I wish they had some kind of sauce to go with it, but flavoring was on point. We shared a hot pretzel too. Nice and large. Only complaint is the place was def a college type bar, with so-so bathrooms and smelled of beer inside. In our family of four, two people love Green Knoll Grill, one person says it's ok, and one person says he is never coming here again. How can we have such different opinions? I think it's because we want different things out of our dining experience. The person in my family who dislikes GKG is a true foodie, and the standard American fare here is too bland and boring for him. He also says the drinks are watered down and even after 2 mixed drinks here he feels completely sober. Furthermore, he feels overwhelmed and overstimulated by the large screen tvs mounted every ten feet, all showing something different. The two family members who enjoy this restaurant so much that they come here 2 or 3 times a week, find the lively atmosphere fun and uplifting. They like to sit in the crowded bar area and feel like part of the community all watching the games on tv and cheering on their favorite sports teams. The waitstaff here is interactive and talkative, sometimes giving cheeky banter. Again, half my family enjoys the joking around and the other half of my family wants waitstaff to be polite and unintrusive. The food that some might consider flavorless, is deemed "simple and delicious and not too spicy or salty" by others. I've tried to be fair in this review with 3 stars, since none of the dishes were ever bad and the place is always clean and looks nicely decorated. The service is pretty good and the waitstaff is friendly and prompt. What I recommend: you can't go wrong with the handhelds. The sandwiches are pretty good and the portions are generous. The fish tacos aren't bad but the cabbage would be better as a slaw or pickle. Overall, I don't think there's anything you would be disappointed with. Revisited this place after many years. They used to have a kid friendly area that was great when kids were little. Now they have revamped to make it all for adults and putting off this "sexy" vibe with staff dressed in black skimpy/tight outfits. The drinks are either too strong or watered down. Food was "meh." If you're going to go see a band, it's fine. But I don't recommend for a good sit down meal. Also, check and see if they are charging a cover fee. I had heard from other folks that often times you have to pay a fee just to come in. The Jack Cittarelli signs out front are off putting if you're looking for a spot that doesn't spout it's politics. The floors are really sticky and the whole place seems very unclean but I think their sampler platter is a good dime for your buck. When we arrived, no one knew of the reservation and said, "sorry, we're closing at 8" which is the time the reservation was for. It only gets a second star because they stayed open til 11 for us. What's nice is that there's an outdoor section that is all heated during the winter -- it looks exactly like a tiki bar -- it's almost as if you're at Bar A in Asbury Park! I should have checked YELP for the real reviews. This was my first and last experience at this restaurant. I made the mistake of choosing it for a late-night bite. The only welcoming person was the gentleman outside the bar. Upon entering the bar, another gentleman immediately informed us that the kitchen was closed, but drinks were available. We moved to the bar area, only to be ignored by the female bartender. After sitting there for a few minutes, the same gentleman who had told us about the drinks returned to the bar area and also ignored us. And our waiter took our drink order, the drinks are all your classic college nightmare drinks - they come in plastic cups and taste bad. I had to chug mine because it was just,..terrible. The food was fine - and the presentation was fine too but the service was terrible. Considering there was hardly anyone in the restaurant, I had to get up to find our waiter multiple times for anything - really bad about checking in. Maybe a shift change but it wasn't great. It was a half-pound Angus beef burger with jalapenos, mozzarella sticks, sriracha sauce, lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles with a side of fries. My burger was cooked to a medium temperature, which I did not mind. The only reason I ordered this was because the mozzarella sticks that were present. I never had them on a burger before. It was different but they were too soft because of the sauce and juices from the burger. Besides that, I enjoyed the burger very much. The meat to bread ratio was ideal and the burger was flavorful. If you pay with a credit card you get charged a 3.5% service fee. If you pay with cash they offer a 10% discount. I asked the server. How do I pay the price on the menu. They didn't have answer. Be careful here if you pay by credit card AND split the bill with another party. Like most restaurants in NJ now they are adding 3.5% processing fee. I've been coming here for many years to see some really good bands inside.This time I chose to try their expanded outdoor patio. They tore down the children's playground and put in a bunch of fun games to play like shuffle board, corn hole, and a 3 foot Jinga Game etc.. It has become my new favorite place to go and hangout and meet up with friends and listen to music. This place gets people in their late 20's - 60's, depending upon the band that's playing. I notice after midnight the crowd gets a bit younger. The patio gets a more professional type clientele during happy hour. They definitely work in the area. GKG is centrally located right off 202/206 North and is easily accessible from Routes 22 and 78. They have a very large lot to park in that's free. GKG has two TIKI BARS and seating for over 250 people outside on the patio. It's one of the biggest patios around. You can definitely have corporate meetings, all types of parties, private events, and birthday parties here. They also offer catering, takeout and delivery through doordash. GKG has PAINT AND SIP PARTIES which they hold under the stars. You can sign up online. On the outdoor patio there are areas with lounges strategically placed for sitting and hanging out. This place is kid friendly, except for inside after 9p when there are bands during the fall and winter months. They do have family activities on the weekends, and host a ton of events which are posted online. GKG has live outdoor entertainment every Thursday and Friday on the patio, check their schedule. There are also live bands inside too. They have 40 plus big screen TV's to catch any sports games going on by the inside bar. I had the pleasure of listening to Anthony Krizan and Jim Ruffi playing music on the patio. It was wonderful, and very relaxing under the stars. Green Knoll Grill has a great HAPPY HOUR 4:30p-6:30p. Drink specials, and half price pitchers, and drinks along with a bar menu of food that's 1/2 price. I chose to try their SEARED AHI TUNA over Crispy onion straws, sweet ginger sauce, topped with scallions. It was half price and was only $5.99. What a deal! It was good! The tuna was kept raw on the inside with a nice sear on the outside. I also decided to try their CHEESESTEAK EGGROLLS with Fries. Crispy wonton rolls stuffed with top sirloin, melted hot cheddar cheese and sautéed onions served with spicy sriracha sauce. This too had good flavor for bar food. Again, this dish was half price. My friends ordered a bar pizza and wings I forgot to get pictures. The pie was pretty good. Again, keep in mind this is a casual place with simple food like burgers, sandwiches, salads, and appetizers. The staff is very friendly. Our waitress Robin was super sweet and very accommodating to our group. I will definitely be returning.. As I was leaving I saw they were setting up A Hookah Bar. 5 STARS for getting really good bands all the time 4 STARS for having a great big outdoor patio and happy hour specials. 3 1/2 STARS for bar style food 1 STAR for charging $11.50 for a Tito's and club when it's not happy hour. Every other bar charges less then $8 for the exact same size drink. They claim it's 2 drinks but every other bar considers it one and it tastes like one.
