Instead of showing me what was available, the owner became hostile and condescending, insisting I needed to be more specific even though I explained I didn't know what variants existed. When I said I just wanted to see what was available for my nephew, he pushed back again, saying he had too many and didn't put them out. At that point I told him I'd just take the single comic I had in hand. On my way out, I let him know I had been ready to spend a couple hundred dollars but instead left with only a $5 purchase. His attitude literally drove me out of the store. I would not recommend doing business here. There are plenty of other comic shops in Los Angeles, not to mention online options, where you don't have to deal with this kind of attitude.

This LA newsstand has everything from regular magazines, to newspapers, to trendy magazines, little knick knacks here and there. I mean wall to wall. Whatever you can't find anywhere else, they have it here. I wasn't really looking for anything in particular, but just the selection and the way it's nicely organized, always captures my attention. Every magazine has its own value/price and are more affordable than anywhere else. However, they don't have books. That's ok, Barnes and Noble is few steps away! The stand itself is super clean and so is the sidewalk, along with both trash cans always empty. It you are in the area, make sure you stop by and say hello to Rene. Support this stand. They are AWESOME in every way!! Street/metered parking and you can also use the parking next door with CVS. Same goes for the restrooms.

It's like walking into a thrift store and catching that mid-century smell--you either understand it or you don't. I do. I've built up little collections over the years--certain genres, classics I refuse to let go of--and being here made me actually consider bringing some pieces back in. The experience was fine and the sale of them went super smooth,. They were very fast checking them and having my money ready but the 2 guys behind the counter that were helping me were pretty rude and unwelcoming. Just the way they talked to me and seems very unfriendly. I've never brought items in to sell and don't know how fast they would go they them since it was a Saturday and I figured they would be busier then a weekday, I took a bunch of games to sell to GameDude a week previous and they took like 4 hours to go thru them. I literally had to drop them off and come back hours later. I didn't know if that was the norm or what. So i walked in with just my crate of CDs, because I figured I could always come back another day with the DVDs but i got called fast. Since it went quickly I figured I'd bring my DVDs in, and then I told one guy that I had a crate of DVDs to bring in also and he snapped an was like "Why didn't you bring them all in at one time?" I'm sorry I actually thought I was doing them a favor because maybe it was busy or they were short staffed. How the hell am I supposed to know? So then I brought the crate of DVDs in. I also lost my voice a few days prior and was just getting on back so my voice is pretty low at the moment l, so when I spoke to them, they were like "What? I can't hear you". Almost like I was annoying them with my low voice. I don't know if they were the owners or what, they were older guys and not some younger employee so I assume maybe owners or managers. So my point is the stores pretty cool and they have some great stuff, but the two guys in front were kinda dicks. Doubt I'll be back.

This is a really middle of the road shop for a couple reasons. To begin with positives, the…read moreselection of back issues is great. They have some stuff that other shops in the valley don't even know about. The selection of new books is great, too. They are well organized, probably the best organization i've seen in a long time at a comic shop. The negatives: prices are way too high for what are basically reader copies, and the presence of the cats in the shop negates the concept of these being "pet free books". Many of the back issues are clearly a bed for the cats, complete with destroyed bags and boards, where the very cute cats have shredded them. Despite this shop having a good stock, the asking prices on every back issue are 2-3$ higher than what I believe is fair. In addition to that, the employees are not terribly welcoming. The gentleman running the counter was downright dismissive, I didn't even get a hello when I walked in the door and made eye contact. I didn't get a single word as I browsed the stacks for at least twenty minutes. The lady working here had a conversation with my wife about the cats, and even talked to my wife about her clothes, but neither employee engaged with me whatsoever. It felt like they thought i was there to cause trouble, even when making a purchase. In addition, this shop is guilty of one of my biggest pet peeves on the planet: not selling displayed merchandise. On the front counter, two small statues were displayed, but when I asked if they were for sale, I was told they still needed to be researched. Man, do it right now, i'm holding the money in my hand for them. In a store with no other customers, and nothing pressing happening, why would you not take two minutes to check the item price on ebay, or even better yet, decide for yourself what seems like a fair price instead of turning away a paying customer? If the item isn't for sale, take it off the sales floor. Stock is excellent, organization is excellent, prices are not good, and customer service is decidedly bad. It feels like the male employee is either suspicious of everything, or gatekeeping the hobby for some reason. I did not feel welcome here.

It's one of the larger comic bookstores in the San Fernando Valley. You can sometimes find a 2-3 month old raw book still at cover price on the stands.
