I decided to download their app so I can make my payment. They kept offering me to "average" my bill. It gave an option to see what your average would be. It showed me my average would be $124.00. But the next 2 months after I chose to "average" my bill it has been much higher. One month it was 163 and this month April it is 155. What the fuck happened to 124!!!!Plus if you choose this option these Fuckers don't tell you that you are now in some sort of contract. Purchased a solar system for my home in Texas and it was installed on 5-20-19 by a reputable solar company that also gave me a way to track my production on a daily basis on May 31, 2019. Green Mountain's site allows me to track my usage on a daily basis of electricity. I should have excess solar power every day and be in the black; yet they have sent me bills in June, July, August and September. I believe they are just a bunch of liars. Very unsatisfied with their crazy billings when I had a solar system designed to cover 99%+ of my electricity needs that is functioning at 100% efficiency. I think this company specializes in cheating their customers after reading numerous reviews. My next step is to report them to the Texas Public Utility Commission. read more

my bill came to $904.00 this month. When I called Peco (my electric comp) I found out Green Mountain was my provider. I have never sign any paper or contract , didnt even know this company existed. I called GME, and apparently during a festival in my town someone who lived in my house (dont know who yet) had signed up with them. The bill is in my name , im responsible for all the bills in the house. Nobody should be able to make changes to my account with out permission. Please, look at your bill and check whos your provider. GME was not supposed to be my provider. Their charges are sky high. This place is so disorganized. They messed up my billing for many months and then hit me with a huge bill that I was unable to pay completely. They had no remorse or ownership for their mistake. This company is trash. They got me to sign up through a street canvasser, and I got suckered. I decided after being advised by my roommate to look further into it - as companies like this are a common scam, at least in NY - that I would cancel the service to do more research into whether or not I really wanted to go with Green Mountain Energy. They claimed to have cancelled my account after I called the next day, but actually duplicated it, continued to charge me through ConEd, and lied today about ConEd not accepting the previous cancellation (to cover up the fact that they had duplicated it). They wont refund anymore than a month's worth of extra charges, after four months of them, despite having made me run around for hours between them and ConEd to figure out what happened. I've filed a complaint with NY Public Services, and will probably follow up with the Better Business Bureau and my attorney to be compensated for the drain on my time. I'm a freelancer, and this company gave me the runaround so they could shaft me unscrupulously, and just the fact that they had the audacity to lie and shift blame to ConEd. They're frauds and deserve to be publicized as such. If you have a complaint, I recommend going to your local news with it in order call them out openly and give them a run for their money. I consistently paid for 2 years on time. My credit card was lost and I had forgotten that green Mountain Energy was attached to that one. Well I missed August 11th payment it is August 29th and they shut me off. They didn't even wait to September payment. Power was supposed to be restored in 2 hours. 5 hours later still no power. I guess they are having issues restoring me remotely. I know have to wait till 11:59pm to have power restored. Of course no one will reimburse me for all the lost food. I am contemplating paying the contract break free just to get rid of green Mountain Energy. Not surprising they only have 1.5 star review. Buyer beware read more

Absolutely terrible, get your energy somewhere else. Sad because they are a completely green company, which we really liked, but it cannot make up for the overall incompetence of the employees. Customer service...terrible. Apparently we were enrolled in an "average billing plan" which keeps your payments the same but then leads to unpaid balance. We were not aware that we were enrolled in the plan, then when we went to cancel the service we owed three times the average monthly payment...suprise! how fun is that. Plus the call center keeps you tied up for more than 3 hours for completely incompetent service, and the end result is just a complete waste of time with no one that can actually explain what they are doing or charging you for. Green Mountain Energy has set up a booth inside Best Buy Union Square years ago. I didn't really care about them or what they generally offer but their sales approached me and said it's about lowering your ConEd bill (total lie) so I foolishly agreed, but changed my mind 24 hours because that seemed too good to be true and I haven't researched this company properly. I mailed the service termination request the next day that I'm sure they're required to offer by law, but the mail was unable to be delivered because they had an outdated address. Every year they send me a letter to authorize Green Mountain Energy and I assumed they'd (googles synonym) get lost if I didn't but they're still on my bill last time I checked, and 99 percent of the reviews on this company generally aligns with the impression they give off. I signed up with Green Mountain a little over a year ago. They had a great product -- renewable energy, good rates (9.4c) - a little above PECO but not by that much, and a friendly rep. BUT recently I noticed that my rates went up by about 20% (from 11.9c to 13.9c) with absolutely NO notice. Digging further back, I realized that my rates had gone up by ALMOST 50% in ONE YEAR -- without ANY notification of the rate hikes EVER. There is NO legitimate cost-based reason for the enormous hikes - current rates THEY themselves offer are in the 10-11c range. RIDICULOUS. Yes, I was signed up under the variable rate plan, which provides them the ability to change rates -- presumably in response to market conditions, NOT simply to siphon customers' money until the customers notice. I called to let them know that unless they refunded the difference of the hike for the last two bills and put me on a better plan, I would switch providers. Their customer service rep was very nice, professional, and courteous; kudos to her. However, she could not offer a rebate, but did offer a much better plan going forward. I declined; that was not sufficient redress for unannounced, unjustified, and, frankly, OBSCENE rate hikes. Within minutes, I signed up with another renewable-energy provider, under a fixed-rate plan, for 10.3c. We'll see how that goes.... We moved to a new address, which we also signed up for Green Mountain under a separate account (since their online moving tool didn't work), and they charged us $250 cancellation fee against the previous account. When we called to dispute, they told us to email our supporting documents to an email address called cancellationfee@greenmountain.com, which we did numerous times. Nobody responded from that email address. Every time we call customer service back, their answer is "They didn't receive your documents. Send them again"!!! I've wasted hours on the phone with their customer service for the past month and have gone nowhere except for having to keep sending emails to this email address that seems to be a black hole. read more

I signed up for Green Mountain online. At the time I was just shopping around for any energy company, and when I found out that GM used "clean energy" I was really excited to sign up. The rates they presented also seemed only slightly higher than other larger electric companies like Reliant or TXU. However when I received by first bill I was shocked. I was living in a 2 bedroom apt at the time and an average bill during the summer was about $270-350 easy. My friends who had signed with TXU were paying on average $75 less than me. I mean the difference in cost is just ridiculous. And at first you get the impression that it won't be that must more expensive, but there IS a significant difference in price. GM also requires that you sign a 2 year contract, so be careful when you do your shopping. Early termination fees were $200! I ended up canceling my contract 6 months early because I still saved money switching to a different company, even with the early termination fee. I just wish there was a cheaper alternative. We been with GME for over two years. Our bill averages $160 a month, for a one bedroom apartment. GME said my rate would be 14 cent a kilowatt. One day another company came knocking and offered 14 cents per kilowatt. He looked over my bill and in small writing it stated We been paying on average. .20 cents a kilowatt. I was told I could cancel at any time without penalty, however they said my final bill would be $355 !!!! I don't recommend GME read more

I've been with Green Mountain for almost 9 years now. I'm actually pretty happy with them. They aren't the cheapest electricity provider out there but I feel better about having wind and solar provide my electricity. The price has been comparable, only .1 to .2 cents more per KWh which doesn't seem like a big deal for me. Frequently they have some promotion that allows you to lower your rate and last time you got a free NEST thermostat, so I can't complain. If you want the cheapest rate out there, there are other places. If your bill is going up, you're either using more energy or your rate is going up. You can't just say the bill is going up without saying which is happening. If it's the spring going into the summer, of course your bill is going to go up. I'm writing this review because they're selling solar leases with NRG Solar Solutions. Green Mountain appears to be a NRG Company subsidiary. This is my email I sent to their sales email for concerns: To whom it may concern (most likely your marketing or sales director), I had someone call me last week to set up an appointment for this week. She kept going through her script as if I was skeptical. I told her I was already sold on the consult and if she could hurry through her script and what she needed from me to move forward. She said someone would call me to get my authorization to get my power usage from Green Mountain. That person called me, said his spiel for two minutes, all I had to say was "yes" and he said thanks. #1) Can this authorization be done when I talked to the first person? Then I get a call from Fabian Ybarra on Monday. He calls me and I miss his call. His voicemail message says, "Please confirm the appointment or I'll have to cancel it and reschedule it some other time." #2) I set up an appointment and you threaten to cancel it on me? Change this wording/policy I then get 2 more calls from Fabian and Sarah within 30 minutes to again confirm my appointment on Tuesday. I get an email from Ciara Baitz at the same time Sarah calls to confirm my appointment. I confirm by email with Ciara, CC: Fabian for the date and time. #3) You must have a lot of people that bail on you for this solar consultation. Having 3 different people hound me for an appointment confirmation makes me believe you have a lot of wasted effort in your organization. I get a confirmation from Ciara roughly 9 hours after I send my confirmation email. Today, 5/14, I get an appointment reminder email that gives me the option to cancel my appointment. #4) I think all of this is a lot. I can see why you may think it's necessary, as a potential customer, I'm telling you it's too much. -Bruce Potential NRG Solar customer. Dishonest, price gouging, thieves... Signed up in April with the promise of a $100 gift card after 90 days. Without the $100 it is just not reasonable to use Green Mountain. And, after 90 days. No gift card because my "rate plan" which was advertised with the gift card promotion was at "too low of rate". Additionally, after the 90 days, they changed from around 11 cents / kWh to 16+ cents /kWh. My bill literally went up over $100. Customer service was useless. read more

My roommate and I were drinking at a street music festival in the lakeview area of Chicago Illinois. Green mountain had a tent set up at the music fest. Their salesman approached my roommate and started a conversation with him, the conversation went on for a long time and eventually my roommate pointed to me since I pay the electric bill. I was intoxicated at the time and signed up for the service because I believed it would help the environment and the salesperson said the max my rates could be was 30% higher than my utilities rates; however the fine print says that the rate my increase by 30% per bill so now may rate is more than 100% higher at 14.9 cents per kwh. ComEds rate is only 7.2 cents per kilowatt. So these guys unethically signed me up when I was drunk and couldn't legally consent and my power bill is now more than double what it should be! read more

I've had a very poor experience with Green Mountain and their customer service. I've been a customer for about a year. Like a lot of people, I signed up with a sales representative who was selling their plans from a kiosk in a shopping area. The plan sounded good and the rate were better than my current provider. As part of my agreement to switch I explained that I had 30 days remaining on my current contract and that I did not want to be switched until that time had passed. They agreed and wrote up the contract. I don't recall if there was a start date on the contract, there likely was and I missed it and they conveniently had the switch made ASAP - their commissions involved no doubt. Needless to say, I was charged $150 by my current provider for switching early. Sometime this past November the credit card I use to auto pay my account was replaced as a precaution to anyone that used it at Target during their data theft. Unfortunately, Green Mountain attempted to charge this card at about the same time and was unable. The result was a large return payment fee. Talking to customer service, they could not tell me what card had rejected or give me any other information. They also never emailed me about the rejection or sent me anything by post. A word to the wise, don't use Green Mountains auto pay feature or the paperless option, these options seem to be more about making them money through fees and saving the cost of a stamp then providing any environmental advantage. My last issue is something that seems to be a part of electric service across the industry. Green Mountain is no different than anyone else except that they market on the basis of being more environmentally concerned, but do nothing except market and follow the same business practices that all energy companies do. Case in point, you get a discounted rate if you use more energy. I would think that if they were serious about conservation they would increase the rate with consumption and not reward people for using more. read more

After a late payment and then getting an immediate disconnection notice and charge, I won't pick them again. They are misleading when they claim you have a late notice but then tack on 20 dollars for a disconnection notice. They also have a 300 dollar penalty for breaking their contract. Just finished our second bill from Green Mountain. I set my payments up with my bank for $170 every month. So, the second bill is for 213.+ which left me an outstanding balance of $43.09. So on the 4th of September I instructed my bank to send an additional payment of $46. No problem. Well on the 10th I receive a disconnect notice for the $43. I contacted Green Mountain and they refused to provide more time, even though we have a $279 security deposit with this organization. Forget them! I will be switching Electric Companies! This comes after having an electricity outage early on. It was a nightmare contacting them because evidently we have report outages to other service providers. I would not recommend GME to absolutely no one. My bills are well over $200 every month and we live in a 3 bedroom apartment and try constantly to reduce our usage. With that being said, everyone I've talked to about the amount of our electric bill has to hear it twice because they do not believe me. Whenever I called to terminate my service because I was tired of having extremely high bills, they said they would "switch" me to a less costly so I stayed. Next month rolls around, my bill is still extremely high. I call again to see why my bill is STILL high and they tell me that the plan change is pending. Month after month, still no change. I have been a loyal customer with Green Mountain Energy for a year and a half. He only tells me after I sign that it's a Best Buy gift card, and when I get home I do some research and find out my Coned bill is not going to be $5 more each month: this is a new energy contract in addition to my Coned bill, and my rates will change. My rates may be 30% higher than my Coned bill. None of this was explained to me. He gave me a pamphlet only after he had me sign his iPad. I have tried calling and emailing to get them to cancel my services. All of my communications have been ignored, so I just went to Coned to cancel. I would recommend that no one trust this company! I moved to Dallas about two years ago, and found Green Mountain Energy on one of those informational packets that you get when signing a new apartment lease. I gave them a call, and they offered reasonable rates with one year contracts so I signed up. I stayed with them for almost three years. I went month-to-month at the conclusion of the first year. My energy bills stayed more or less the same. Until... last month. Green Mountain Energy, without notifying me, aggressively raised my rates from 9.2 kwh to 15.3 kwh. (literally on the peak month). This almost doubled my year-over-year energy bill. (I keep meticulous records of utility bills, so I have records to prove that August 2014 my bill was about half of what it was this year.) I called the service center to ask them what the disconnect was, and what happened. They informed my that I was on a month-to-month plan and my rates could vary. I told them I've been on month-to-month for almost two years and they've never varied that drastically. The representative on the phone told to me the only thing I could do to lower the next month's bill was to sign another contract. I told them I would be willing to sign another contract if, and only if, the past month's rates were taken back to a "normal" range. They refused this offer! So I switch providers... I switch providers 13 days after this call because I was on vacation, and not going to be at home. So, I was on vacation, and set my thermostat to 80 degrees. My usage was much lower and it was only for 12 days during the month of august, my final energy bill was 250.00$. To put this in perspective, my full month energy bills in the summer months are normally around 160.00$. Bottom Line... Don't trust this company! read more

Finally cut off this company after having them for six months. They are awful. After moving into my place, and spending a bunch on the deposit of my apartment, I let my electricity get one month behind. Get a notice in the mail and call and talk to a representative for GM Energy. She assures me that so long as I pay before the day my power is supposed to be disconnected, I won't get any fees. It's only if my power is disconnected that my power will be disconnected. She did say something about a 3% charge for paying late, and I thought, okay, I can repay this slowly over the next few months and just eat $2 or so a month in the small interest charge. Now, I take responsibility for the fact that, even though I was paying $10-15 extra a month, I wasn't tracking it very carefully. A few months went by and my total wasn't going down. Talked to another representative and they informed me that no, I've been getting $20 a month charges each time I get sent a disconnect notice. So I am sent one around the 25th of each month, and before the 4th, which is the disconnect day for my bill cycle. I was able to have two of the charges removed, however I think there were 4 left. The representative said she would send my file over to management to be appealed. I waited to hear back....nothing. But whenever I tried to call GM Energy to discuss this with a manager, I would get put on hold for 20-45 minutes before I would have to hang up because I just can't spend all day waiting to be acknowledged. Now, it was my fault for getting behind, but I would have had that paid off within three to four months (as there were times I paid more than $15) without the stupid $20. I feel that I was taken advantage of by GM Energy. If the first phone rep who I talked to made a mistake, fine. But they need to stand behind their phone reps (or train them better), in order to keep customers. I paid off the remainder in one lump sum today (fuck you GM energy) and signed up for Bounce instead. If I could do it all over, though, I probably would have signed up for TXU Energy for their free nights energy plan, which you have to sign up for 12 months. Also, if you sign up for Bounce, look up their promo codes. They have one every month it seems, judging by the past couple of times I've looked at their website. read more

Very simply, I called them to get electricity for my single family home, in a residential neighborhood with a residential electric meter. Apparently I called the wrong number and got the commercial department. The rate they charged me was 50% higher than the residential rate, plus additional taxes not charged on the residential rate. Once I realized it in the second month I called it to their attention and they refused to back down. They kept repeating over and over again, "You signed the contract." Legally, they are right. Ethically, they are a company that ripped me off because their commercial department just wanted a quick sale. They could have easily said, "You called the wrong department. Let me transfer you." Beware, if you need a letter of credit sent to your new electric company, Green Mountain Energy WILL NOT provide this letter directly to your new electric company. The letter of credit is a standard letter that (most) electric companies transfer to show evidence of payment history so that the new customer will not have to pay a deposit. For some reason Green Mountain's procedures do not allow them to accommodate this. Green Mountain - please review and update your procedures so others will not have to experience what I have. This company is very shady. I signed up outside of a movie theater under the guise of completing a survey about my utility bill and when I wasn't even told that I was signing up for a new service. Once I realized what was going on I asked to cancel, however I was told it was too late. The next day I attempted to cancel my account, a process which took about an hour. Then, 2 months later I receive an email asking how my service is. I called customer service back only to be told that my account had somehow been re-instated the day after I called. They will not work with you on any payment arrangements. My electricity was turned off today in 100 degree Texas heat and I have kids at home, the youngest being 3. I thought I had until the 28th to pay, nope! Bill is due on the 11th, you have 2 weeks from that date to pay or they disconnect.
