Two weeks ago I bought food and I was given 8 little containers of the green sauce that I love . Today I spent $ 45.00 worth on food that were side orders and we asked for several of the sauce and the girl told us that they only give the sauce if you buy a plate . I bought more food today and she only gave us 2 sauce telling us that she wasn't suppose to give it out . I had to buy 2 more because they wouldn't include it . Mediterranean food is my fave! I've tried most of the Mediterranean food places in the Cerritos/Downey/Lakewood area (plus other places in LA County/OC) and this place is the best locally! (If you want to experience authentic then you have to go to Little Mediterranean in Anaheim and that's how I'm setting my bar about this review because this place is comparable). Anyways, from this place I like their gyros, kafta, filet mignon, and chicken kabobs. My fave here is their chicken shawarma (idk why they didn't have a photo of it on the menu when I feel like it's the best dish from this establishment). I always prefer shawarma over kabobs; that's just me. I feel like shawarma has richer flavor and spice (not hot) and just brings me back to the Sahara desert lol. Okay, I'm exaggerating; but, that's how flavorful it is, okurr? I've only been to Israel and Greece in the Middle East; but, I know how it feels to be blasted by sand in Caesarea (it hurts)! Do you guys know whether if it's Lebanese or Persian food? Well, I don't know but this is my opinion. If the rice is all yellow (saffron) I consider it Lebanese. If their rice pilaf is white with parsley and they just put some saffron oil on top, I think that's Persian... Well, some restaurants will actually say Persian Restaurant. So, correct me if I'm wrong. When restaurants just says Mediterranean, that's when I do my guessing game lol. Whenever I'm craving for middle eastern food, this is my go-to place even though it's like 5 miles from my house (better than 10+ miles). There are other closer restaurants by my house, but this place is worth the drive. That's how much I greatly greatly recommend this place. If it's you're first time eating Mediterranean food, you can't go wrong with the chicken kabob (since it has a very clean mild flavor). But, don't forget to ask for their Garlic sauce. It pairs well with chicken! (Sorry, I only have these photos cause the other times I had the other dishes I forgot to take photos). Today, I didn't forget; that's why I wrote a review. I've been driving by Green Olive for years! I always eye it every time I go to the McDonalds that's right next to it lol. I decided to give it a try after someone recommended it. Their words were "they took a hit after COVID but people keep going because the food is THAT good." I decided to go and OMG it has become my go to place now!! I got the filet mignon and chicken platter and everything was fantastic! The rice was flavorful, the salad and it's vegetables were crisp and fresh, the hummus and pita were a perfect addition and the meats were tender and juicy. The portions are large so definitely worth the $15.99 (i could be a dollar off). I'm also not a big eater so I had dinner, lunch, and dinner again with the portions served. My only regret is having gone to McDonald's when this awesome place was right next to it all along! read more

I love this place! For the money you're paying you're getting a great deal at this restaurant. This was my first time hanging out in Downey, too, so we are glad to have found this hidden gem! Here's what we got: 1) Lamb Chops Platter - You get four lamb chops. They were excellent in flavor and such a great choice! This dish includes rice, salad, but does not include hummus. However, it does include this amazing mushroom stir fry! 2) Chicken and Kafta Kabob Platter - This was another great dish to get. You get four pieces of chicken and one kafta kabob. They were moist and savory, and the platter came with hummus, rice and salad. 3) Chicken and Lamb Kabob Platter - The lamb was seasoned very well but it seemed a bit dry, like it had been sitting out for a while. You get four of each meat, and you also get hummus, rice and salad. The dishes can be pricey but I think you get a great value. I love the dressing for the salad (tastes garlic-y) and the yummy rice! It is so addicting to finish the whole thing, even if you are full; at least that's the problem I have :P The customer service is very friendly and the ambiance is casual and great for groups. read more

My husband and I both love Mediterranean food that we had to include it into our diet since it is so delicious. My husband discovered this cute restaurant on Yelp and we decided to have it a try. We both had the falafel wrap. The wrap was big . The falafel was pretty good, it was very crunchy and flavorful the side potato's were really tasty and spicy‍ The only complaint was that the pita was store bought pita so it wasn't the best. Finally got to try this place out after having it bookmarked for quite some time. Came in on a Sunday evening, and was surprised at how small the restaurant is. There are probably only 6 or 7 tables total with the largest table only able to seat 4. There were a couple of small tables set outside, but it was surface of the sun hot that day so no one was eating al fresco. Decided on their combo plate with one skewer of chicken and another with their kafta kabab (ground beef and lamb with spices cooked on a skewer). The combo plate comes with rice, hummus, a side salad, one pita, and their green sauce. I don't like salad so I asked if I could sub out their spicy potatoes for the salad. There was a 99 cent upcharge to sub. You know, it really saddens me when places upcharge you for subbing out a side for a side. It's not like you're asking for anything additional. You're basically asking them for something else rather than what their combo plate comes with - I doubt there is any cost increase for them to do this. And is it harder for them to put a scoop of spicy potatoes on my plate instead of the salad? Unlikely.... But I digress. - since I read a lot about the spicy potatoes, I wanted to try them so I agreed to the additional cost. Luckily we were able to find a table inside (all the tables were filled when we arrived so we had to vulture people for seats) before our food arrived. They bring you the food to your table. The food was fresh and hot. It was all quite tasty - and those spicy potatoes were great! The potatoes themselves were crunchy on the edges...I want to say they may have been deep fried before their garlic/spice bath? They were super garlicky with a spicy kick. The green sauce was different as I'm used to receiving garlic sauce with this type of food. But it was good and tasted great on the meat. All in all, I really enjoyed the food. The amount of food you get compared to the cost was a little skewed. Both the chicken skewer and kafta kabob were on the smaller side and my plate including the upcharge and tax came out to over $15. Normally if I'm paying this much at a fast casual eatery like this, I get larger portions. I will probably be back. read more

I wanted a healthy lunch, so I found this cute little place on yelp! The restaurant itself isn't too big, but around lunch time (noon), there were still open spots. I got to-go, but I noticed the sit-in customers' plates were very presentable. If you sit on the side where the stools are, you can witness the preparation of your food. I've never really had much Mediterranean food, so I don't have anything to compare it to... but I enjoy good food, and this my friend, is great food. I got the chicken kabob platter and the wait was only eight minutes! Maybe I'm simple but my favorite part was the warm pita bread dipped into pure heaven (also known as hummus). The platter also came with a fresh cucumber salad, rice, and of course, chicken kabobs. I personally prefer the green sauce. Not sure what it is, but it's bomb. Last Wednesday (3/19/14) I tried the Green Olive in Downey for the first time. The small Mediterranean cuisine eatery was packed, but the line wasn't long so I decided to get my order to go. I ordered the shrimp kabob wrap ($8.49). The pita bread was stuffed with charbroiled shrimp kabob, rice pilaf, and mixed vegetables. On the side was their "home style spicy potatoes." They weren't really all that spicy to me, though. Also on the side were a few beets (yuck), peperoncinis (yum), & green olives (double yum). I loved the green sauce (their exclusive hot sauce) that came with this meal as well. But before I ordered my wrap, I pointed to the sample in the glass window and asked the girl if that was the actual size of their baklava ($2.99). She said yes, so I said, okay, I'll try one. This was not the case though. When I got my order, the baklava was half the size of the sample. *Sad trombone* While I waited about 20 minutes for my order, I noticed how exceptional the service was. The tables were cleaned quickly, the food was brought out swiftly, the phone wouldn't ring a jillion times, and the order line moved along well. The only qualms I had were the wait, but I had no where else to be and being practically lied to about the baklava size. I don't think I will buy anymore of the baklava because nearly $3 was a little steep in my opinion. It was decent, though. Oh, and the seating... there's hardly any, but it's such a tiny place to begin with! I would definitely opt for the Green Olive over the Hummus Factory because of their slightly better pricing, but especially because of the larger variety of platters and wraps. I think I will try the filet mignon beef kabob wrap next time. Oh! And they have a kids menu! Just had the WORST experience here. I ordered takeout on Saturday, and they messed up my order completely. They probably gave me someone else's order. I call them as soon as I get home and find out, the girl that helped me apologized, and took my name down, I told her I couldn't go right back but I'd go Sunday ot Monday, she said rhats fine. I call on Monday, but they don't have the note..(of course), but it seems like the person I'm speaking to is going to help me out, she takes the order and she asks if I'm going to pick it up right now, I say yes, we hang up. She calls me back when I'm two blocks away, telling. Me all of a sudden, she doesn't think she can, that her manager is saying I need my receipt. I tell her I obviously don't have it, I'm on my way home from work, she says she'll call me back, she calls back and says the best they can do is 50% off! An order that they screwed up to begin with! I, of course, calmly, although a bit flustered now, explain how that is unreasonable. She says "wel,l we get busy."(how is that MY fault?) She, gets frustrated I'm not letting her blow me off, says that's all she can do, there's a line, and when I'm going to ask for her managers number, she hangs up on me. This, is the WORST customer service I've received in a long time.. do yourself a favor and don't go here.. childish staff, greedy management.. really? 50% off? For a mistake your staff made, all you had to do was make it right. I wasn't asking for a freebie, just what i paid for. I won't be going here anymore, and you shouldn't either. Yelp won again. We were driving from Santa Fe Springs to Huntington Park and yelped for possible good restaurants. This restaurant was highly rated on yelp and it did not disappoint. My Hispanic colleague who does not like to try any new food went with a Chicken Kabob plate. He said the chicken tasted very good and loved the hummus pita bread combination. I ordered their gyro plate. It was very delicious. Their portions were very generous for the price. All the items on the plate were good. Leftovers were a decent meal for dinner. The waitstaff tended to the tables as soon as patrons left. Guests were ordering and were being served at a fairly good pace. The gentleman at the counter was very friendly. I've had awesome Mediterranean food in both LA and OC so I wanted to see what Downey had to offer. The service was great and this place is very clean. The menu has a wide variety of dishes to select from, while allowing you to make substitutes for items that are not to your liking. I had the shrimp plate and it was quite tasty! The rice was not that great but it sufficed. I need more flavor to satisfy my tastebuds. I seriously love falafel but rarely eat it because I don't want to see my pants size increase. Their falafel was pretty good and cooked to perfection. Overall, this is really a hidden gem in a city that has gone through some serious changes. This is such a disappointment. The sauces are very watery. The chicken kabob was so dry and hard. It literally felt like a rock. The kofta was very very dry that when you cut it, the ground beef crumbles like biscuit crumbs. The beef kabob was not tender and difficult to cut with a knife. The flavoring were off - too strong spices, unbalanced and doesn't taste like authentic kabob. The flavors are so confusing... its like it wants to be american flavor but remembering to have greek flavors. The pita bread- so dry and hard. The stuffed grape- One bite and we threw it away. I love kabobs and this was such a waste of money. And the service when we called in the order, just as bad. Very rude too. The only thing I can say good about this place was the store sign. My wife came here with our newborn for a to go order, when she arrived at home the order was completely wrong which wouldn't be that big of a deal if they actually gave some kind of effort fixing the problem. We called and told them the order is wrong and the girl said she'd fix it. I arrive to pick up the new order and whoever took the order clocked out right after so none of the cashiers knew. Was honestly really excited to come eat here based on the reviews, however we had an awful experience. We (party of 2) ordered at 5:13pm and were waiting over an hour for our food. We checked in with the staff several times to ensure our food was still coming, and they just kept saying it would be out shortly. They ended up serving like 4 other orders from people who came after us and they still got their food before we did. Aside from the ridiculous wait time, the staff with blonde curly hair that was at the front was very rude and condescending and showed a complete lack of customer service skills. Well I called to find out about having a large order placed for a party I was having. The first guy I spoke to was nice and said he'd call me back with a quote, which he did...$600, which yes is pricey but I thought their food was worth it. So I said I'd call back to place the order. We wanted to make a change so I called back and was told that they were too busy to help me and to call back after 2pm, which I did.
