*5 stars all the way!!* My husband and I wanted to take advantage of the turf removal program so decided on making our entire front yard drought tolerant. We shopped around for landscapers and stumbled upon Lupe and her crew. We thought since they were doing our neighbors yard we might as well talk to them, see what they are about & get a quote. First meeting was a success! We knew we wanted to work with her and her designer, Maggie. They were both very professional and listened to what my husband and I wanted out of the project. Our main concern was how we would be able to get the landscaping "look" we want with the budget we had. Lupe & Maggie did a great job helping us achieve that. They were always available to answer any of our questions and responded quickly via email or texts. Our second meeting was informative. During that meeting we got to see the design Maggie had put together for us as well as an estimate of project price. Maggie's design drawing was very detailed, it included plant pictures, description of plants, and placement of them. Her crew are definitely hard working and on time! They start early (7:30ish) to finish early, which is perfect for us. The 1st day Took about 6-7 hours to remove all our grass, rocks,plants, & a tree. The 2nd and 3rd day was installation of new drip system, digging of soil, placements of plants and stepping stones. In the end, we couldn't be more happy about the way our landscaping turned out!! We are so happy we chose Lupe and her team! They are very easy to work with, met all our deadlines and definitely helped us stick to our strict budget! Our landscaping looks great! Lupe was originally recommended to us by our local nursery for a project, and we've now hired her and her terrific crew twice, and will again for a future landscaping project. The first project was an install of UC Verde Buffalograss. This nice-looking drought tolerant grass goes in as small plugs, which we wanted pretty tightly spaced for faster/stronger growth. It's a fairly large yard, but Lupe and her crew delivered a day early and got the job done in half the time we expected. And they did a perfect job. They even went above and beyond to do a few other things without charge. They also ask to make sure you're happy with everything before they wrap up, and they leave your place nice and clean. After both projects they've done for us so far, Lupe checked in to see if we had any follow-up questions or issues, and even visited just to make sure everything was looking good. I hired Green Splendor Landscaping to build a two level wall with French drains on my steep back hill and then install drought tolerant plants, as well as some other smaller projects. I contacted Lupe from Green Splendor Landscaping for some suggestions on my backyard. I had a path made of broken concrete slabs with dirt between them. The rest of my path was mostly dirt. I wanted to cut down on having to constantly sweep up dirt and deal with mud after rains. We decided on pea gravel for the concrete path and decompressed granite for the rest of it. I have just gone through many days of rain and my path is not only beautiful and natural, but I don't have the clean up anymore. They did a great job in a few days. I've been putting off writing this review but now I feel compelled. This review is NOT a reflection of Maggie and her design, or the crew. Instead, it's a reflection of the poor communication I've experienced throughout a project that should have been completed in October of last year. As another reviewer advised, please check your contract agreement and billings carefully. I, too, was overcharged in the design bill and had to flag the error for Lupe, which she corrected. I'm happy with the design, price and initial installation. However, it quickly became clear that the existing irrigation system that was repaired by Lupe's crew was not sufficient for my yard. Specifically, I notified Lupe that the water did not reach the bottom portion of my lawn. Why would I spend thousands of dollars on new landscaping if only part of it was going to be effectively watered? When I contacted Lupe after the installation, she told me they were too busy with other projects and an assessment would have to wait until February. I reluctantly acquiesced, only because the rains at that time were providing sufficient water for the lawn. Despite Lupe telling me she would follow-up with me in February, I didn't hear from her, so I initiated contact. She agreed to send her crew out in mid-April to assess the irrigation system. The crew came the week of April 16. I waited to hear from Lupe but nothing. I contacted her on April 26 to inquire. She responded on April 27 and said she would speak to her crew and get back to me "ASAP". Despite two follow-up emails from me, each a week apart, I've received nothing but an automatic reply that stated she would respond to the email in 48 hours. That was 7 days ago. In the meantime, my front yard - for which I paid Green Splendor Landscaping thousands of dollars - is only partially watered and portions are dying. read more

We called Lupe on recommendation from Armstrong Garden Center, for a landscaping job around a new pool. It wasn't terribly complicated; just grass, some rocks, and mulch, but included a LOT of labor to get the ground level and bring in amended soil for the sod and the large planting bed. OH and the irrigation system had to be newly reconfigured since the pool construction had chopped it all up! The crew showed up before 7 am the next day, and worked like crazy, despite the 103º temps. They rested a lot and had some shade, but worked really hard. Day 2 was laying sod and rocks and m ulch, and they were done, and had the place party-ready by 1 pm!!! It was amazing how quickly and professionally they worked, and Lupe got it all organized. We'll definitely use her company again. Only drawback: no credit cards. read more

The whole Green Splendor Landscaping team is awesome! I initially called the company about some 'pot landscaping' I wanted to do in the front and back of my house. When I met with Lupe Perez I showed her my property and told her my objectives and ideas. She offered suggestions I hadn't considered and once she figured out my tastes, it was smooth sailing! Lupe is knowledgeable, easy to communicate with and thorough. She goes above and beyond (did a couple of things without charge). Her crew is respectful, punctual and cleans up thoroughly when done. Lupe took a Century Agava off our property worth $500....we managed the job the best we could due to her incompetence .... her guys cut the power to our electric gate. You name it. Well, here is what happened. We went to Armstrong Nursery here in Pasadena, looking for assistance in re-sodding our backyard. They agreed to put together a contract, utilizing Green Splendor to do the work. Lupe came out and gave us an estimate to do the work required. She quoted us a separate charge to rototill the lawn area. Not being knowledgeable in yard work, we agreed to the overall proposal, which included replanting a pathway "very densely with dymondia." My wife very clearly said (and Lupe agreed) that we were not going to go with a planting that would eventually fill in. We agreed that we would put dymondia very densely, covering the spaces between the stepping stones. When we received the order she placed with Armstrong, there were roughly 1/14 of the required dymondia. We raised an issue immediately, as this didn't seem to be what was agreed in the quote. We subsequently removed that part of the job entirely, as she tried to blame Armstrong for providing a sparse planting, that would eventually fill in. Her crew proceeded to do the sod installation. Also, in discussing the dymondia situation, she offered to "sell around" her partner Armstrong, and offered to get us a much better price than the "expensive" Armstrong. On installation, her crew was here for 3 1/2 hours, and the total labor charges were to be $840. We also found that her "crew" (two guys), utilizing 2 shovels, 2 rakes and a rototiller laid the sod, but did NOT roll it (as most installation directions recommend) plus they dumped the excess dirt from the sod installation on top of our ferns and flower beds, tromping down a lot of plantings. Upon discussing the situation with Armstrong, the said to definitely NOT pay any extras to Lupe, and they would deal with her "selling around" them as a partner. So, we found them to be inexperienced as installers (no rolling of sod, dumping excess dirt into surrounding flower beds, thus destroying many plants), and not ethical partners with Armstrong Nursery. Fortunately, Armstrong was very honest, and upright. We would strongly recommend against using Lupe and her crew. read more

We recently bought 9 new cypress trees from Armstrong in La Canada to replace trees that had died due to a very poor installation a few years ago. (Never buy trees from one of those places off the side of the freeway that claim to be "wholesale"). The trees cost a bit more, but came with a great warranty. We also paid them to have their recommended contractor (Green Splendor Landscaping) install them. A week later, Lupe from Green Splendor came to our house to inspect the area where the trees would be planted. We discussed topping the existing trees, removing the dead ones, and planting the new ones. Since we had already paid for the planting, she gave us an estimate of the additional cost for topping and removal, which seemed like a very fair price. She was very attentive and listened to our concerns, as we had already lost half of our trees due to a poor installation. The work was performed in a very careful manner, and the workers were very fast. Once they finished with the installation, they did a thorough job of cleaning up. Everything looks great now. Wish we knew about Lupe and her company years ago! She would have saved us a lot of time and money (not to mention aggravation). read more

I'm stating up front that I am a very "hard sell" with high expectations, so for me to give a rating of 4 out of 5, that IS about as good as it gets...there's always room for improvement, but I wouldn't be submitting a positive review unless I could stand behind it. Lupe and her crew have been working on my front yard project off and on for the past six months, and she has patiently guided me through the water smart turf rebate application process. Her designer and she came to my home a couple of times to meet with me, and after lengthy consultations, they submitted two drawings representing hardy drought-tolerant plants to replace the lawn in my front yard. I liked plants from both designs, so we ended up with a "hybrid" design. After a few false starts (on my part...Lupe and her crew were ready to work, but they were very patient), the grass was removed quickly and the dirt was sprayed to prevent regrowth. I was surprised by how efficient her crew was - they had the grass cut, removed, and the area cleaned up in about 4 hours. This is a hard-working team!! A few weeks later, the drought tolerant plants were ready for installation. It was disappointing that not all the plants I selected as part of the "hybrid" design were available, but Lupe suggested several comparable plants that were in keeping with the design. The plants arrived in two separate orders, so the crew worked a full day the first day of installation and then returned for a second day to finish the installation. There were more than 60 plants in all, and the crew was, again, very efficient! I opted to use decomposed granite instead of bark, and am very happy with that decision...I also added 5 large boulders which Lupe sourced for me. She was great about sending me photos as visual references along the way which was a tremendous help. My drought tolerant landscaping has been in for about a month, and Lupe and I continue to stay in touch through the final rebate approval. The plants are beginning to fill in, and I'm really pleased with the decision to hire Green Splendor Landscaping...A big thank you to Lupe and her crew! read more

Highest Quality, Friendly and Budget Conscious Lupe Perez and all the staff at Green Splendor are fantastic to work with and their efficient friendly service delivers a high quality project on time and on budget. This was our first project with Green Splendor and included landscape/hardscape repair to a pebble and paver walkway that had been damage by a water main leak and repairs to a slope drainage system that had never performed properly since fist installed. Several other contractors had looked at the project and had provided proposals that were either very costly or would fail to achieve the look and function required. Lupe took a very different approach. Instead of starting all over, her proposal effectively worked with what was existing - significantly lower the cost and delivering a project that satisfied a high aesthetic standard and that performs beautifully. Instead of the many days that were estimated by other landscapers, Green Splendor's experience and efficient team completed the project in just a few hours. The staff worked well with me to make some minor changes as the work was being done, and together with Lupe we were even able to address some problems from the original walkway and slope drainage system installation. The front walkway looks better than it ever has and the slope drainage system has, for the first time, performed perfectly following heavy rains. Equally impressive was the high level of customer service Green Splendor provided. The landscaping staff didn't leave until I was happy with the work and Lupe followed up to make sure I was 100% satisfied. The hardest part of any project is finding the right contractor and team to work with.
