Two great meals, good portion size, warm atmosphere, not noisy, attentive wait staff.

Incredible food, service and atmosphere. We stopped in hoping for some at least average sushi and got some of the best sushi in Maine. They have a Chinese and Japanese menu. There is a sushi bar where you can watch the chef prepare your sushi or you can sit in an number of rather private booths. I had crab rangoon which was priced at $2.75 for 4 delectable little pockets of cream cheese and crab! Wonderful. I also had their Dragon roll - a california roll with unagi and avacodo on the top. I was even able to get it made with soy paper instead of nori!!!!! Unheard of in Maine. My husband had a Sushi and Sashimi plater for 1. He said everything was excellent and he ate the whole thing! I would make the trek to Bangor daily if I could just to have their food. read more

Not bad! Generous portions for fish for the Nigiri sushi but the rice tasted a little strange. Green tea was also very good.

Probably one of my favorite places in Bangor to eat. My first experience was amazing. Our sushi was taking a little long to come out and the waiter came and gave us an appetizer free of charge and with out asking. Our wait really wasn't that long either, we were probably only waiting for 20 minutes. Every time i've been back the experience is just better and better. I am updating my review because we have gone back three more times and the majority of what we have ordered has not come to us correctly, usually the wait staff writes it down very wrong. (ex: blueberry ale-blueberry soda, sesame tofu- sesame chicken, general tso tofu- general tso chicken, mango chicken-sweet and sour chicken, combo meal- bento box, combo meal- individual orders, etc) The tab is usually incorrect as well and the wait staff completely ignore any attempt made to get their attention and are no where to be found frequently. Also- DO NOT get the bubble tea! It is served hot with a couple ice cubes and is extremely bitter. read more

A good friend and I went into Green Tea for lunch. They were incredibly accommodating in regards to seating because my friend had her infant daughter in a car seat. I ordered a soft drink. On the menu it says 1 refill. I paid $2.50. My friend wanted Boba tea, the waitress informed us they only have the Boba on the weekends. I ordered a lunch "Bento Box". This came with a choice of several different appetizers. I asked for the dumplings, but the menu stated steamed and I wanted pan fried. I asked the waitress and she quickly replied that it would be extra. My friend wanted shrimp with a side of coconut sauce, extra. She wanted her eel and cucumber wrapped inside the rice instead of on the outside, extra. My friend was quite upset upon learning her side of coconut sauce would cost $3.00!! She cancelled her shrimp entirely and we were both put off. Then, the waitress brings our drinks - my straw was a crazy straw. That's a cute touch, but everything that we had asked for was extra! Extra!. My friend made sure to ask if the duck sauce was extra before asking for it. It was crazy. I understand that a company needs to make a profit, but charging $2.50 for a one refill Soda Pop is unheard-of. 3.00 for a tablespoon of coconut sauce? Talk about pulling a fast one. If our waitress wasn't honest, our bill would have been unbelievable. Yeah...Green Tea is beautiful, and the atmosphere is great, but watch out or your bill will be through the roof. Worst service ever. It took two and a half hours to get our food. There were no utensils on the table. Everyone in our party ran out of water in their glasses long before the waitress came to refill them. Not to complain about the waitress because it was clear that the management was at fault as they were very under staffed. No soy sauce with the sushi either... Never coming back. read more

This is where you go if you like sitting alone and hungry for two hours before your food is brought to you. It was my first time eating here and first impressions matter. Many of the food items do not look anything like they do in the photos on the menu. Awful restaurant. Got our order wrong, brought cold crab rangoons, then they gave us the wrong food. Slow service, too. Our bill was wrong so we got it fixed, and they came back with out change. They then told us that the change that they gave us what what we had given them in the first place to pay with even thought it wasn't, and they made us pay a SECOND time for our meals. The waiter couldn't speak any English at all, and the manager REFUSED to believe that we had already paid. Needless to say, we will never be going back there again, and will strongly advise anyone else from every going there. AWFUL! read more

In the 90s as sushi gained in popularity in the U.S., lots of non-Japanese restauranteurs decided it looked pretty easy; just raw fish on rice, right? Thus we can now find all too many such "sushi" restaurants across the U.S. today, serving inferior quality Japanese food, mediocre at best, often on a menu that has the owner's native food alongside (which can actually be of decent quality). But often it's hamachi (yellowtail tuna) turned into an almost tasteless, anonymous white fish, uni (sea urchin) that's overripe and drippy, and other fish that is too old to serve as sushi and should be cooked into another dish. Great sushi is all about a wonderful subtlety of flavor, not a lack of flavor or off-flavor. Adding insult to injury, both times I went with friends (yes, I like sushi so much I was willing to give them a second chance) were appalling in service. The second visit it took literally ONE HOUR to get our appetizer served; one hour later dinner arrived, and by then we had to have them put in a "to go" bag because we didn't have time remaining to eat in. Got it home and there was a long, gnarly hair wrapped through the sushi rice of one of the pieces. Try biting into that. Atrocious. I want it to be good, and good restaurants do a great business in Bangor; but DON'T GO HERE. Since the owners are non-Japanese and not trained sushi chefs, the non-Japanese dishes might be better; but I'll never find out since you'll never see me in this place again. read more

This is my favorite place to eat in Bangor. My boyfriend and I typically eat here twice per month. We usually get the Sushi Regular, which offers a combination of nigiri and a tuna roll. In addition we typically chose something else from the al a carte menu. The combination platter also provides a salad or miso soup. The dressing on the salad is delicious. I have never tried the miso soup here. We can usually eat there under $30 if we don't order drinks. The staff is very nice and the atmosphere is very comfortable and inviting. I also like that the menu offers a chinese selection. This way we can invite others to come with us and we know they can eat chinese in case they don't like sushi. Compared to Ichiban, I prefer Green Tea. The food is just as good, but the prices are better. And there is very little wait time for the meals and seating is always available. read more

BAD SUSHI. DO NOT EAT HERE. WILL MAKE YOU SICK. I had the tuna roll -- nothing but the tuna roll for lunch, and I have been burping up stale tuna for 6 hours. I feel like I'm going to puke but I have a strong stomach. I just feel SICK. It was not delicious to eat. I thought maybe it was a cheaper cut of fish because the price was low. I had the lunch special: miso soup and two rolls for $8.50. The soup had a more complex flavor than other miso soups I've tried (but I've mainly only had it from one restaurant). I ordered cucumber/ avocado and carrot/mango/ avocado. Both were delicious. The restaurant had a very nice decor and ambiance, the food was great and very nicely put together on the plate, and the price really can't be beat unless you want some sketchy gas station sushi! My friend had the pad thai and said it was nice too. I sort of don't like the idea of combining so many different cuisines in one restaurant, but it seems to work out fine for them! read more

Great place to eat sushi!!! Prices are fair for what you get, good portions. The fish is great quality and extremely fresh! I live about 4 hours north of any place that serves sushi, every time I go through Bangor, this is where I eat. Used to live in Hawaii for more than a few years so I know fresh fish. Cannot say one bad thing about Green Tea I love it. The owners are always on it trying to bring to every customer the best experience. There staff is well trained and there for you the moment something is needed. I only wish I lived closer!!! read more

We came to eat dinner a group of 4 adults and 3 kids and waited for the food for almost an hour. My dish did not arrive with all the other, and I had to go and ask what is going on with it. Finally, when it arrive, it was not what I asked for ( I asked for non spicy dish and I got spicy dish). I did not eat it and asked not to pay for it- they did not agree with us and I had to talk to the manager about it to cancel the dish's payment. Overall, bad experience. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. After that I talked to the manager outside and she told me that to wait for an hour is reasonable time and that pad tai is always spicy dish and I shouldn't order it ( I ordered it so many times in so many different places.. I ordered out here and they told me the food would be done in around 20-30 minutes. I then went there and they told be it would be another 20 minutes to get my food. They food here is so over priced just to get something that tastes mediocre. I got peanut chicken here and it was dry and came with sauce that tasted far from peanuts. I payed an average of 30 dollars and I could have went down the road and gotten more food for a better price at the buffet. I wanted to try something new and I was very disappointed. And for another thing, I don't know if it's legal but they have kids working that look like there only 7-10 years old. read more

Dined at Green Tea in Bangor on Saturday, 12-11-10. I'd had lunch there a couple times before and found both the Japanese & Chinese food unremarkable (even for the area) and a bit pricey, but never had a really horrible experience. So a friend and I were out Christmas shopping at the mall and decided to get dinner there. What resulted was not only one of the worst meals but one of the most bizarre restaurant experiences either of us (especially my friend) ever had. We decided to order a pu-pu platter (or "Green Tea" platter as they call it) and it was absolutely horrible! With the exception of the Crab Rangoons, which were OK, everything was burned and overly greasy tasting. Yes, I know pu-pu platters tend to be greasy, but no exagerration, this one tasted like it had been in a kitchen fire. The chicken fingers had almost no chicken in them and tasted like (badly) homemade donuts. But even worse than the food were the antics of our waiter. When he first came to the table he put his hands on my male friend's shoulders and sort of massaged them while he was talking to us. OK, we figured, he was just being friendly in his way. However, EVERY time he came back to our table he did the same thing. I counted 8 times and my friend was feeling VERY uncomfortable with the waiter's creepy advances (I would call them advances because every time he did his touchy-feely massage thing he was obviously enjoying doing it). Long story short, we paid the tab and got out of there. I will say one good thing about Green Tea: they have nice decor and the inside of the restaurant is attractive. However, there's no excuse for the behavior of at least one of their wait staff, and the food just isn't that good. For Japanese food in Bangor, Ichiban is far superior and much less expensive (and Yoshi in nearby Brewer is also better). For Chinese, try Panda Garden or Chopsticks. read more
