I avoided this place for the longest time because it just never seemed that appetizing to me for some reason, but I did take out more often than normal this week and had already run through all the regular (healthy) spots on my rotation. So with a sigh, I said fine I'll give it another try. I got a chimichurri salad bowl with steak and chicken and it was so flavorful! The chicken was tender but a few pieces of the steak were a bit tough. Next time I'll probably do double chicken instead. What's funny is it kinda reminded me of my mom's bo luc lac (Vietnamese shaken beef) because of how the juices from the meats soaked into the greens and the tomatoes! Green Tomato Grill has been highly recommended by my vegetarian and vegan friends as a tasty and delicious spot to dine. They are located towards the street and a bit hard to find with the plant growth somewhat covered their business sign from some angles. On the bright side, plenty of parking and a good amount of indoor and outdoor space. At this cafe you order at the counter and seat yourself. Surprisingly I saw meat options on their menu, so there are options for the meat eaters. I had their Vegan Char Burger ($11.55) which does not come with sides, so I added a side order of Sweet Potato Fries ($4.55). They gave me a number and I also asked for a water cup. They have a self serve drink station, refill yourself if needed. Unfortunately when I sat down the table was extremely dirty with debris from the prior diner(s). At this point I was the only customer in the restaurant so they were not too busy to keep the place clean. I could have moved but I really liked that spot for the vantage point so I cleaned the table myself with my wet wipes. The food was slow to arrive but delicious when it did. The Vegan Char Burger has the beyond meat patty with vegan cheddar, caramelized onion, grilled mushrooms, arugula, tomato, pickle, vegan dijonnaise in a sesame seed bun. Yum!! So much flavors I honestly forgot I was eating a vegan burger. It really needs a side for a complete experience. The sweet potato fries came out on the soggy and not crispy enough texture. Probably wouldn't get this as a side next time. A vegetarian and vegan friendly favorite and a healthy spot even if you don't have those dietary restrictions. Katella Avenue, the restaurant's tagline says it all - "Fast Healthy Food. From Scratch." They offer limited indoor and outdoor seating if you're dining in. I'm a creature of habit so I always order the Chimichurri Bowl with choice of protein (I go with the Tofu so there's no additional charge), chickpeas, onions, tomatoes, mushrooms, shishito peppers, white rice and chimichurri sauce. We came at an off hour around 2pm on a Sunday. Plenty of seating, including some booths, and a covered patio muzzling the Tustin St. traffic noise. It's the typical fast casual place: place your order and pay at the counter, grab a number, make your drinks, and head to a seat. I had the chicken curry and my friend had the tomato bisque. We both shared sweet potato fries. The curry was flavorful, but the onions were sliced so thick, it was not pleasant to try and maneuver around. The sweet potato fries had the requisite taste, but not as crisp as I would like. Overall, the extensive menu piques my curiosity to return again to try other items. It's been a while since I reviewed green tomato grill, but this place caters to the healthy food, consumer, vegan, and vegetarian. All their meals are incredibly colorful and flavorful. Their service can be hit or miss, depending on who is working at the time. This location has a beautiful garden right outside the front door with a fountain that is dog friendly so that way you can bring your pup along. This is also a great place to have a meal while you're waiting for your car to get repaired at Toyota of Orange. My personal favorite still remains the Thai chicken bowl. The flavor profiles along with a rich peanut sauce really make the dish stand out. Another item that is also great is there sweet potato fries that are similar to green leaf. It's not busy at all and it kind of has that fast food restaurant type of feeling to it? But with healthy menu options! Their menu is actually pretty extensive, but it seems like the most popular option are their bowls. I ended up getting a Thai peanut bowl with avocado as my meal for the night. Got my food, and it's a lot simpler than I thought lol the ingredients were pretty nice and fresh, and everything is just basically packed together. I liked how the avocado here was also nice and ripe too! But this meal is pretty simple, but healthy!
