Amazing venue! Got married here almost a year ago and going though our photos and video, this place is truly magical. My wife's family lives in Idaho so having all the homes on site was amazing. We spent most the time at the pool with friends and family. The wedding day was amazing down by the pond and the reception in the barn. This wedding venue is hands down the best I've ever seen! What a beautiful venue, lush green lawns, the sun shining and wine being poured , what's not to love? I was lucky enough to win tickets to the Chardonnay Symposium, what a wonderful day trip this made. My favorite part of the event was my friend telling the J. Lohr Representative that they enjoyed Pinot Grigio over Chardonnay, this seemed to delight the rep who held up a finger, bent down and came up with a secret stash, she said they had one bottle left, when people saw we were being treated to Pinot they all began to flock... I don't think that bottle lasted more than two minutes, it was a nice light wine and everyone wanted a taste of it. However with all the wonderful moments, I will have to say, this lady needs to take some wine classes, I was in the dark for most of the event when it came to the definitions, on my list of the things to do before 2016 is over. Oh and I got caught trying to take the wine glass with me as we left... seriously I didn't even realize I was carrying it, but they were sure to stop me and tell me they needed them back.... oops. For anyone looking to take a day trip, don't hesitate to stop at Greengate Ranch & Vineyard, it's gorgeous. read more

This venue is beautiful. Took a drive out here to attend the chardonnay symposium. The space is large. Bathrooms were well kept. The lawns were green and parking was plentiful. The weather was fantastic for wine pouring/tasting. read more

We were here for a wedding and had a great time. The setting was real nice with lots of long tables to seat everyone. The barn was great for partying after dinner. They had a few different bars set up all around. The food was all really good; I especially liked the grilled avocados and the mushroom risotto. It was family style so everyone was fed really quickly with lots of courses. There was a bit of walking in the grass and dirt which wasn't easy for some wearing heels. It was a little windy but not enough to bother anything. Great place and it seemed like they did everything right at this wedding! read more

On one hand, our wedding weekend at Greengate Ranch was magical. There is no place like Greengate in Central California. The venue is gorgeous; the houses are full of customized details that are both comfortable and classy; and the location is near SLO, but outside of town, overlooking rolling vineyards. Every one of our guests was impressed by the grounds and overjoyed to stay there. While the location can't be beat, the customer service, in particular the Operations Manager, was unprofessional. She made promises she didn't keep, yelled at me the day before my wedding; and, on two occasions, said, "You're not even paying $20,000 to have a wedding here." (We rented the Ranch and Carriage house as vacation rentals, instead of a wedding venue, because we only had 21 guests--something we communicated with the staff from the very beginning.) We booked the place August 11th for a December 6th wedding, and on October 29th, we find out from one of our vendors that Greengate was hosting a "Christmas Barn Soiree" the night before our wedding. When I told the Operations Manager that we were very disappointed that they double booked a party our wedding weekend, she was apologetic. She admitted that they were a new business that made mistakes, the party was a last minute idea, and that due to the inconvenience, she would give us a 20% discount. My main concern was that we had three children and three babies coming to our wedding and I didn't want them to be awake all night. The Operations Manager promised me that the barn door would be closed, the valet would manage the cars off site, and the party would end at 11; we wouldn't even know that the party was happening. These were lies. The night before my wedding, dance music shook the Carriage House until 12:30 a.m, 90 minutes past the end of the party time. The barn doors were wide open all night, 200 partygoers wandered the property and cars zipped between the houses. After trying to sleep for two hours, I walked down to the barn in my pajamas and found the DJ blasting music to an empty dance floor. When I told them that people were trying to sleep for a wedding the next morning, the party staff turned off their music apologetically. Apparently, nobody had told them to shut the party down at 11 or that guests were staying in the houses. Besides the Holiday Barn Soiree, the Operations Manager yelled at me the day before my wedding. We had spoken to her a few days prior about setting up down by the pond, and after we had put up our arbor and trees, she called to tell me that the area was banned due to a mudslide. The rains had caused some mud to form, and although we had spent the last hour setting up the wedding, we moved our arbor and trees obligingly. My complaint is not in having to set up twice, but in how she yelled at me over the phone: "I've been more than accommodating to you," and, "You're not even paying $20,000 to use the whole property." She was yelling a long litany of words that made me feel like a difficult and frugal client when I cut her off and apologized for causing an inconvenience. I told my family that things were fine with Greengate, but the aggression and insults lingered with me the whole weekend. With all of this in mind, I don't think there's a place more beautiful then Greengate Ranch and I recommend the venue wholeheartedly. I give the venue 5 out of 5 stars, but the customer service a 0. I waited six weeks after my wedding before writing this review, because as a person sensitive to new and small businesses, I didn't want my words to be loaded with emotion. My hope is that Greengate will learn to communicate and treat their guests better, because the location and homes are truly special and the Central Coast needs a venue as unique as this one. read more

I will write my praise and summary in a quick sentence for all those who don't care to read past the first paragraph. The venue was a dream for my April wedding, and the staff was extremely accommodating and communicative throughout our entire planning process straight to the end of the wedding. Planning a wedding 150 people is hard, stressful, and at times the most difficult when you don't have great vendors. Luckily for me none of that was the case. When I stepped my first foot on the property I knew that was were I wanted to get married. I am the most picky about vendors and GG made it easy with a list of recommended and top notch professionals that would help carry out my dream. We booked our stay from Wednesday- Sunday as more of a wedding "retreat" with the big party happening on Saturday. A week before my outside wedding, the weather shifted and rain was becoming a factor. The staff at GG did everything in their realm to keep me and my planners informed and provide a more then adequate back up rain contingency plan in case of rain. The rain decided to come on Saturday, all morning. My outside wedding was not an option so they rushed around to clean the horse barn and set up a wonderful and magical space for my husband and I to say our vows. They went above and beyond to calm a worrisome bride and make the most memorable ceremony that most of my guest had ever seen. The entire day may not have gone exactly according to plan, but everything in my eyes was perfect. The comfort of having such an amazing team behind such an important event made the day so special for us. The VRBO's were both very comfortable and stylish. The grounds were meticulously groomed making for rustic and elegant -- exactly what we were looking for. I cannot sing the praises of the venue loud enough. If you are as lucky enough to have a wedding here as I was, know that you are in great hands. read more

I knew, as soon as I stepped foot onto Greengate's property, that I had found the perfect place for our dream wedding. And, boy, do I love being right! :) The property is stunning. Our wedding was at the beginning of November, and the foliage on the trees and in the vineyards were beautifully golden, perfect for our autumn wedding. The lawns were also gorgeous and green (my favorite color). I was a nervous bride, and I woke up every morning around 5am. But I would sit outside in the crisp morning air, and calm myself by gazing at the beautiful rolling vineyards and listen to the lovely breeze blowing through the branches of the pepper trees. The bridal party and some of our closest friends and family stayed on the property, and all of them marveled at how it was like staying at a luxury resort! All of the houses were so comfortable, and provided such a great space for our welcome party and all the last-minute wedding prep. I and the bridesmaids had our hair and makeup done in the Yosemite Room in the Ranch House. Plenty of space and beautiful space to hang out with my girls! We took our family portraits in the backyard of the Ranch House, had our ceremony at the pond, and our reception in front of and inside the beautiful barn. The property offered so much variety for the different elements of our special day, and our guests loved it. The catering/food prep area was conveniently located near the dining area, and we set up the bar under the walnut tree (which had mason jar candles hanging from the branches). There was a restroom very conveniently located nearby the dining area as well. It's a perfectly designed venue. Corinne and her staff are wonderful. Corinne always responded very promptly to my many questions throughout the many months of planning. And the staff who helped us throughout the wedding weekend (especially Jenna!) were always available to help us and our guests with anything. We couldn't have asked for a better experience. Absolutely stunning. I just had the chance to visit this very charming venue in the middle of the Edna Valley, just a few minutes outside of downtown San Luis Obispo. There are sweeping views of the surrounding mountains, beautiful well maintained grounds and a gorgeous barnyard as its centerpiece. Wow what a poor experience. No doubt the property is nice but boy was this place a huge let down. Don't walk but run from this place. We had an event here just about a week ago. First off the staff was not great at all. We had over 200 people at the event and there was only one working toilet. Literally one toilet and it was in the mens room stall. The attitude when asked why there weren't any other toilets was just horrible. The staff treated us like we were lucky to be there. How is a place like this even in business. More people need to write about their experience with this so called ranch that is literally just set up to do events. There isn't a animal on the property, no horses, no farming not even a dog. I am so upset that we wasted so much money doing an even at this place. The food was absolutely horrible. I honestly couldn't believe the pure lack of effort to at least serve decent food. The salad had soggy croutons and next to no dressing. Croutons were soggy because it probable sat in the fridge for days prior to the event. When we asked for more dressing the girl actually gave us attitude and said "there is plenty of dressing on the salad". The chicken was as hard as a rock. There is zero chance that this chicken was cooked the day of the event. It was likely left over from another event days prior along with the salad and over cooked pasta they served. My nine year old son and I were really hungry when we arrived and only ate a few bites of the boiled pasta with zero sauce on it. It was a joke, the amount of money they charged and they served this two day old junk. read more

I cannot say enough about Greengate. I searched all of Southern California for an appropriate venue for a company retreat and Greengate was head and shoulders above every other venue I looked at. Corinne and her team are exceptional hospitality role models. Everything about our stay went smoothly and felt well organized and carefully curated. The homes are beautiful, the atmosphere feels remote and quiet but a quick 10-15 minute drive takes you to the heart of SLO and a ton of fun restaurants, bars, and boutiques. It was the perfect getaway for our team to bond and get to know one another. Plus, all of the amenities were there for presentations including a gorgeous recreational/living room complete with big TV screen and HDMI cables for easy plug and play use. Cannot wait until we have an excuse to return! read more

Greengate Ranch is a true hidden gem. My husband and I got married here in July 2019 and we still talk about it as the best weekend of our lives - not only for the wedding day but also for the whole weekend experience there. The property at Greengate is absolutely stunning and the ability to stay on site for the weekend with our family and bridal party made the experience truly unique and special. We had an al fresco welcome dinner by the pool, an intimate rehearsal dinner behind the ranch house, got ready in the beautiful (picture ready!) houses, had a romantic ceremony by the pond, a cocktail hour and dinner on the lawn, and a rockin party in the barn. The options on the property are limitless. The added cherry on top is that entire crew at Greengate is super detailed oriented and friendly. Greengate is worth every penny!!! read more

I apologize in advance but this a lengthy review and it is long overdue. We got married here last March 2016. It has taken me this long to write a review because I kept thinking the negative feelings would dissipate, but I still feel as strongly disappointed as I did almost one year ago. I discovered Greengate online while looking for wedding venues. I grew up riding horses so when I saw the pictures on their website of brides posing with gorgeous horses and sunset pictures of brides and grooms in the pastures and vineyards walking with horses by their side, my heart melted. I knew this had to be my wedding venue. When we visited the ranch to make our final decision, we were taken up to the barn where the horses resided and were shown where the photos are taken during an event. I was in love. To picture myself in a wedding dress next to a classically leather bridled beauty was going to be a perfect dream come true. This however, was not the case and none of that came to pass. A month before the wedding, we came up to do a final walk through of the venue (which they required) and when we got there, I asked, "where are the horses?" To which the events manager nonchalantly replied, "oh, the horses are gone." My heart dropped. "What do you mean 'the horses are gone', why??" She then began to casually explain that they decided to no longer be a working horse ranch and just be a wedding venue. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. That was why we chose this place to begin with! I was dumbfounded and heartbroken. When I expressed how disappointed I was and asked why we had not been notified, she simply replied, "what we decide to do with the horses is our prerogative." There was absolutely no remorse or sympathy for my disappointment. She then said we still have 2 horses on site that you can still use for photos. I thought, thank god! At least it's not a total loss. She suggested I arrange with her to have them put in the stable in the early part of the afternoon for pre-ceremony photos and then back into the pasture for post-ceremony sunset photos, which I did. The day of the wedding arrives, and the whole bridal party and our photographer went down to the stable to take the aforementioned photos and guess what?? NO HORSES. It was just an empty barn. Again, my heart sank. There was nothing that could be done at that point so we just took photos without the horses. After the reception, our photographer came to get us for the sunset photos in the pasture. The 2 horses that were in the pasture were so skittish they wouldn't let us get near them even for a moment. I tried to be calm and reach out to them and one of them kicked out with its back legs and almost kicked me in the face. It missed me by mere inches! At that point I quit. I just put my hands up and said forget it! I wasn't about to risk a head injury on my wedding day. Again, utterly disappointed. I wish I could say that was all that went wrong with the venue but alas there is more. When we checked into the ranch house on Friday afternoon, there were no paper towels or cleaning supplies for the kitchen or bathrooms. We had to go to the store to by dish soap and sponges, and basically everything else one would think would be in a rental. None of the TVs worked throughout the entire house and that night we tried to light the fireplace during our rehearsal dinner and that didn't work either. The owner called and apologized and said we were the first wedding of the season so they hadn't stocked the house yet and forgot to check the gas line. Unbelievable and so unacceptable! It doesn't matter that we were the first wedding. It should have been done. We paid almost $20,000 to be there for 2 days (Literally just to stay on the property - not including any vendors) They refused to refund any of the money. The only compensation we received was a $500 refund for the late check out time on Sunday afternoon. When the weekend was over, I couldn't help but wish we had gotten married somewhere else. The only saving graces were the outside vendors we hired for the event: catering, flowers, and photographer. They made our wedding lovely. However, the location was not worth the level of disappointment and disenchantment we felt. Certainly not worth the money. Bad form Greengate. Bad form. read more

2.0 star rating 5/20/2020 In early 2019, more than two years in advance of our event, we began looking for a site to celebrate a private graduation party for two graduates in June 2021. Another parent recommended Greengate Ranch & Vineyard. The grounds and location were perfect so we booked their Vineyard Cottage. Booking a place during graduation weekend in San Luis Obispo is incredibly difficult because of the sheer volume of people that descend on the area at the same time. Greengate was available and happy to take our reservation, even that far in advance. We paid a 50% deposit. At the beginning of May, we received a very vague email stating that they had to cancel our reservation. No explanation was provided. We were understandably frustrated and immediately called and asked for more details as to why they would be cancelling a reservation in May 2020 that was scheduled for June 2021. The contact never returned any of our calls. She just continued to send emails and blamed the cancellation on the current pandemic, but when we pressed, we finally got a different story; Greengate would now only be taking reservations for wedding packages during the spring and summer weekend months, and that it would no longer be allowing families to reserve the cottages for graduations, or in advance for a private event. They made no effort to honor their current commitments, or to work with us to find suitable alternatives. The only thing we got were email links to other venues, all of which were already booked (for those that would work for our budget, size and event). The only property available was for a minimum 4-night stay (twice as long as what we needed) and for three times more than what we were paying with Greengate. That is not a comparable option. We were looking for way more professionalism in how this process was handled. We know this is a difficult time, because we are all going through it. But sending an ambiguous email (instead of calling or returning our calls) to abruptly cancel the venue for a very important event is wrong, and just plain terrible customer service. We paid a lot of money for the venue, and expected more than just an email. A little professionalism and courtesy go a long way, and in this case, would have made all the difference in the world. Instead, we felt like we didn't matter and our reservation and event were expendable. read more

We recently spent Memorial weekend at the carriage house as part of a 10 year college reunion celebration and it was fantastic! The house is beautiful, slept our 3 couples comfortably. The grounds are picturesque and so serene. It's the perfect combination of seclusion yet within a 5-10 min drive you're in the heart of downtown SLO. We definitely want to come back to see the BIG house completed. read more

We had a great stay at Greengate Ranch for Memorial Day weekend. The Carriage House is a beautiful modern ranch house just built in 2013 and very well appointed. They also have a larger 5 bedroom house just being completed, and wedding facilities. The location was great, right in the middle of SLO wine country, yet still just a short drive to town. We walked to Claiborn and Churchill Winery across the street and Sextant which is just down the street. The Carriage House was also a great value, with 3 couples staying it was about the price of the upper end chain hotels in town, but a great place to gather with friends. The Ranch itself is a busy working horse ranch, so there are horses right outside the house, very neat. read more

I've often looked to Yelp to read other people's recommendations, but this will be my first review. My wife and I are planners. We plan vacations, trips, hotels and venues way in advance. That gives us more time to enjoy our trips when we go. When it came time to choose a place for our family's 2021 college graduation party (we have 2 kids graduating in the same year), we chose Greengate based on its location and modern accommodations. We reserved a cottage and paid a deposit last year (2019) for next year's event (2021). With no warning or explanation Greengate cancelled our reservation and notified us through email. We called to talk to a live person but none of our calls were returned, and no effort was made to help us find other accommodations. When pressed, we were told they would no longer reserve private events that far in advance, or reserve for graduations. They made no effort to honor the commitment they made with us first, or try to reschedule. The cancellation email included names of other local places, which we found were already booked when we called. As customers with a confirmed reservation, we expected much better customer service and more effort on Greengate's part to keep their commitment, or at least call and work with us to find something comparable. Greengate is a lovely place, but they need to work on their professionalism and customer service in how they respond to customers if they hope to get future referrals. read more

Absolutely the most beautiful venue in San Luis Obispo! My husband and I searched and searched for the perfect venue for our wedding, and Greengate Ranch & Vineyard was it. About half of our guests were flying in from New York, and the other from various places in California, so we wanted a place that would allow us to take it over for the entire weekend, so that our family and friends had time to get to know each other, more than just the day of the wedding. The kids were able to take horse riding lessons on Thursday as the adults enjoyed wine tasting at Tolosa (right down the street). On Friday we held a "get to know each other" BBQ on the Ranch House deck, overlooking the vineyards, and on Saturday we held the wedding by the Oak tree, and the reception at (and in) the Barn. The immediate family and wedding party were able to stay there onsite, at the incredible Ranch House and Carriage House, and it truly couldn't have been a more perfect location, for the best weekend of our lives. read more

I only attended a wedding here but loved the views and the multiple locations afforded at this venue. The Carriage House was a tastefully decorated vacation rental that was great for a relaxed gathering of friends and family; there were multiple indoor and outdoor spaces for people to mingle. As for a ceremony location they offer the Pond, where you could listen to the wind rustle the trees overhead while watching a lovely couple get married by a picturesque pond. It made you wish that you had an easel and a brush to start painting the scenery. There was plenty of room at the Barn for a reception and nearby restrooms for the comfort of guests. Just need to remember to pop out the heat lamps cause it does get really cold as the sun goes down. Parking was in a field of grass that gets damp at night so wear appropriate footwear. Also, remember to take some allergy meds because there is a lot of grass, dust, and pollen. read more

Where to begin? My now husband and I got engaged last Thanksgiving and embarked down to SLO to look at venues a week later. We saw Greengate online, but looked at 4 other spots before ending up there at the end of our day. The second we drove up, we knew that was it. And after we toured the property and got back into our car, I got choked up because I could just picture the wedding weekend there as it was. It's an amazing property....Our wedding was almost 2 months ago and having it at Greengate was unbelievable! The fact that our entire wedding party and several family members could stay on property was what sold it. To be able to walk up the hill to see each other, hang out during down time, etc. was incredibly special. And the property is gorgeous - first class, top notch. The houses are decorated so well and chic, their newest house is beautiful! Our family and friends were blown away by the aesthetics. And apart from the houses, the actual barn and walnut tree where we had the wedding was incredible. It really is such a special place, we feel incredibly lucky to have spent our entire wedding weekend there with close friends and family on such a spectacular piece of property!
