Oh what a sad visit this was. As a child, Greenhouse was one of my favorite places to go so visiting here recently was tragic and I think I can put my finger on it. This location has the feel of a business going under. You can tell when the staff is downtrodden, they are cutting corners on quality and the whole vibe of the place is sad. Like Eeyore with a constant gray cloud hanging over his head. It's very hard to enjoy your food in this atmosphere. When we came in, I order the chicken pasta, my absolute favorite greenhouse dish. It's the most delicious thing they (used to) have. My husband ordered the tri-tip sandwich. The person taking our order was not cheery or friendly but she did her job. She was not interested in personable conversation and just got our drinks and took our order. We sat down and the restaurant was about 35% full but it was also around 1:30 so that's kind of a late lunch. The advertisements on the table were excessive and outdated and that usually means people have stopped caring. There was a waiter cleaning a table next to us that completely ignored us the whole time even when my husband asked for a refill. The food came out fairly quick. My most beloved chicken dish was completely watered down! SO sad. What once was a rich pasta dish was now a runny soggy mess. I didn't even attempt to finish it. My husband's sandwich looked like Alpo to me but he enjoyed it. The pasta salad that came with it was ice cold. Not in the good way. Like ICE cold. I like this place. Nice and friendly staff. Typical diner fare- omelettes, french toast, pastas, and sandwiches. The service could be a bit better. We waited quite a while for our water to be refilled and to place our order. For breakfasts I usually go with omelettes. I judge the kitchen based on how good they make their omelet. It should be a fluffy marriage of eggs, lightly browned on the outside while slightly runny on the inside folded over tasty fillings. The best I've tried so far are the California (bacon, tomato, olives, cheddar, avocado and sour cream) and the Greenhouse (spinach, mushrooms, onions with cheddar and provolone). Both are well prepared with a nice ratio of fillings to eggs. When I'm not in the mood for breakfast, I get one of their good sandwiches. They have the turkey, gouda, aioli on ciabatta bread. Or I'd recommend the marinated cajun chicken breast on a croissant. Both very good and quite filling. They also have a quite a few pasta dishes which I can't vouch for, so proceed with caution. read more

Used to eat here quite a bit and it was "so-so." We recently tried again and were pleasantly surprised.... pick up only, though, so I can't speak to eat-in. We've consistently gotten great food. The salads are fresh and the ingredients are not overdone so that your salad is soggy and heavy. Our favorites are Carol's and the Mandarin Chicken. Greenhouse cafe is hit or miss for me, it kind of just depends who's cooking in the kitchen. The food is okay, but really overpriced for what you get... I don't care for the staff, and the cooks always peek out the window from the kitchen and stare at you... I've been really let down the last three times I've been, and I think I have given up on eating here all together. read more

Oh, Greenhouse, how you've let yourself go! DARK meat in the cajun chicken pasta and salad? Charging extra for the bread and cheese on a french onion soup? Uncooked rice in the chicken and rice soup? Clam chowder sans the clams? At least the toasted bread and iced tea were still good. My sister said her tri-tip sandwich was pretty tasty. so after an ok meal that was catered to us at work, i decided to go in here myself and order something i would like. big fettucini alfredo fan, so i placed an order for the ravioli with alfredo sauce. said it came with garlic bread so i tried it out. my order was to go and thanks to a 10% off comunity card i got my meal for $7.50 (drink not included). it smelled good and i could not wait until i got home to dig in, but was highly disappointed when i took everything out of the bag and started to eat. first thing i noticed was that i got 2 forks. dont know why. i would have preferred to get a knife and fork so i could cut my raviolis but ok. when i opened the container that contained my pasta, i was disappointed. the alfredo sauce was EXTREMELY runny, ive even had soups that were thicker than this. which made me think i wish they would have given me a fork, knife, AND a spoon. it came with only 5 large raviolis that were not even anything to get excited about. ive had cheese ravioli before and its usually a combination of cheeses that really spurs something in your mouth, but these honestly just tasted like they were stuffed with ricotta and thats all. my "garlic bread", well im not even certain it should be called garlic because it was just 2 huge pieces of toast with a tiny dot of sprinkled cheese off to one corner. regardless of the fact that i got 10% off my order i feel like this was a big waste of my time, money, and appetite. tried it, never coming here again.... read more

I have been going there for years and have yet to be disapointed. Great food and great service. You should really check it out.

While I have not tried everything on the menu, the home made dressings are well worth the visit alone. I love their version of ranch (creamy italian) and the Creamy Garlic is by far my favorite around. This is one of the few restaurants in the AV where the employees remember my wife and daughter, even down to the little things like the fact that I like my chicken on the side and we all drink Island Medley Tea! The few times that we did not had a perfect experience, they were quick, and happy I might add, to make it right. I would recommend Greenhouse to anyone that is actually looking for something in the AV that does not have a drive up window and food that is mass produced. read more

I think I may have found my new favorite spot! I went for the first time today with my mom and we really enjoyed it! The food was good, the service was excellent! You do order at a counter and food is brought to you so don't forget to tip like you're at a regular restaurant because they do do all the same work as a server. I've been going here for years, it's always good! The portions are huge. My favorites are the chicken Ceasars salad,extra dressing because it's so good! Another favorite of mine is the beef Garganozola pasta, and the seafood pasta. They are fast too and the waiters check on you frequently enough to make sure your okay. This restaurant has several stores, but this one in Lancaster is probably the best (and the original). They offer sandwiches, salads, and pasta dishes. My favorite item is their Cajun Chicken salad. It has chunks of marinated chicken, and comes with a poppy seed dressing but I prefer their creamy garlic dressing, which is packed with raw garlic flavor. The salad comes with a slice of french bread, but on request they will toast it with butter which makes it more tasty. They also make a great french onion soup, and their vegetarian sandwich is good, too. read more

After bringing us the wrong salads they brought out the right one after another extended wait. The tri tip salad was terrible like boiled meat. I have loved this place for years. We have had all kinds of gatherings here, Baby showers, college meetings, funeral gatherings, Baptism celebrations. They have even catered my school's Teacher Dinner on Conference night!!! Love their salads and great pasta dishes. My hubby always orders the beef Dip sandwich. I love their tomato bisque soup. I ordered a vegetarian sandwich that comes with the pasta salad. I asked for a French roll specifically. The French roll was dry and old tasting. It was made in a completely different manner than the croissant sandwich which has different lettuce, tomatoes, etc. and that is very irritating since it was nasty. The food here is ok, but the service is terrible. You pay for your food and then sit down and after paying they always ask if you want to add a tip, before you even know how terrible the service is. Me, my husband, and our 2 little ones ate here and sat ourselves down (like you're supposed to) at a 4 top table that had a sign stating it was reserved for a party of 4, not long after we got settled in our spot one of the girls came over to ask if we were waiting on 2 more people.. I said no why? She then told us we needed to move, that that table was reserved for 4... so apparently my 2 children don't count as people? She could see how irritated i was after she asked us to move and acted like she would "let it slide" this one time.. like seriously my toddler was sitting in a chair not a high chair One of the tables chairs and my infant was in her car seat on one of the chairs . Very rude and makes me not want to come back regardless if the food was amazing or not. read more

I found myself in Lancaster unexpectedly due to an automotive problem. After getting car fixed found this place, but was looking at the Mexican food place across the way. Probably should have gone to the other place. The good about this place is: We had a decent broccoli cheese soup with a half decent (lettuce, cucumbers, chopped tomatoes and croutons) salad. At least the stuff in the salad was cut up. I don't like it when eating salad and catch a quarter head of lettuce on my fork. The food was probably a three. Now the not so good about this place: You walk in and order at a counter. It seemed like there was perhaps some sense of urgency to get the order, do these people clock out and go home after our order is received? We ordered and sat down at a table, no this table has food particles on it, moved to another table. This table dirty too, but better than the first. They have glass cut to size to fit the table, goes over the tablecloth. And I'll be damned if the glass covering the white linen does not show EVERYTHING. Some actual glass cleaner and clean towels is in order here, not some sloppy dirty towel. And the really bad about this place? Like Alex R says in his review, if you pay with a credit card, they are going to ASK for a tip up front. How fucking tasteless is that? Probably about as tasteless as using the F word in this review, I don't know. Anyhow, young lady, I do not tip in advance, and my girl and I are very generous tippers when service is good.
