My initial review. I will add to it later when I get more time to type :-). This is the second time that Ben came to help us out with our security needs. The first time, we were in a rental. Really loved his expertise and his obsession towards providing A+++ Customer service. So when we recently bought our own place and wanted to change out the locks and put cool new ones, it had to be done by Ben. All the requirement gathering phase such as the type and number of doors, lock types etc was done over text. Which is excellent for me since I could take my own time, select whatever locks I wanted and then get Ben's feedback. I took my own time and did this over a month. Once I decided the type of locks I wanted, I purchased them from Amazon and then scheduled a time for Ben to come out an install them. Ben came as planned and took care of changing 5 door locks. In addition, he also installed 2 super cool looking guard rails for enhanced night time security. What a pleasure it was to deal with Ben! I called mid-day because the lock button on our front door was stuck/broken. He answered the phone right away, had me take photos of both sides of the doorknob, and text them so he had more info to work with. I needed a re-key and deadbolt install. No idea who to go to...well yelp to the rescue of course! Ben is an honest, friendly, no nonsense guy. Not only a great person to chat with but also provided some recommendations on improving a few things. He even grabbed some extra AA's he had in his van to use in my electronic deadbolt. Then even explained how to use it about it even though I didn't even buy it from him. That's some serious service, bro. Prices were very reasonable. Total damage was about $260 for 3 re-keys and an electronic deadbolt install and 4 additional keys. Weekend rates suck (all locksmiths charge this) but when you gotta get it done, I'd rather pay for someone who I can trust. I realize this story might seem a little difficult to believe, but every word of it is true. Let me set the scene for you..... *Cuing dramatic music*..... I am a professional Faerie... It's true. *Oh dear* did I just hear you moan??... Right- you need evidence.... I called AAA right away so that I could do a very serious costume change (all of my costumes for that day were stored in my car)... And get to my phone (also in the car).... So that I could call the next celebration (who's information was **also** in my car) that I was scheduled to attend, so that I could let them know what was happening and that I would be running late. After finding a twig wedged into our mailbox lock, and then discovering I couldn't get it out or get my key in to get the mail, I was extremely discouraged. I started my search of how I could possible get it fixed. First, I called the post office, but they said the boxes were the complex's. A call to the complex proved that wasn't true, and a second call to the post office revealed that even if the boxes were theirs, they no longer provide the service to help get the twig out. GREAT. My next call was to a local locksmith, who said they couldn't get there after business hours, which is bad for me, since I work, you know, during business hours. He also told me that if they were to come out and get it out of the lock, it would be about $100. Yikes. Luckily, I consulted Yelp and made one final call--to Ben from GreenKeys. He was so friendly on the phone and was very willing to work with my schedule. He also sounded positive about getting the debris out, which I really appreciated. Ben is the reason I had to find my Yelp password. He helped me with a project of mine to convert my single key and remote to a flip key remote combo. He cut the blade perfectly and it functioned in my brand new car as if i just got it from the dealer. We just moved into our new (to us) house, and the first thing I wanted to do was get all the locks re-keyed. But who to call? Yelp to the rescue. Right off the bat, Ben @ GreenKeys was the highest reviewed locksmith in the area. This is for a good reason. Ben is the founder, owner, and sole operator of this business. Bravo for managing all of this by himself and managing to build such a strong reputation for himself and his business in just the short 3 year span he's been doing this. Don't be fooled by the fact that he's a young guy and has only been doing this a few years - he's bright and good at what he does. Despite running a bit behind his schedule the day I had him come out, he took the time to chat with me for a good 20 minutes before even starting his work. I was concerned about the security of our locks and the susceptibility to bump keys or to being picked open. He explained the background of how the picking processes worked, and based on my needs and concerns he recommended a few modifications to my key cylinders that would make them more difficult to pick/bump. He ended up adding some additional security features on all my locks. Ask him about these if you have similar concerns. He even showed me a cut-away version of a lock so I could see how the pins and cylinder work. He drives a large truck (actually a converted US postal truck, which he recently dropped an awesome 350 motor into) in which he has his mini machine shop set up in the back. My install seemed pretty standard for him, but had anything come up unexpectedly I suspect he has all the right tools with him to resolve it on the spot. He finished his work quickly and on-time as promised, and I felt that his prices were very reasonable. Really nice guy to boot. He was able to schedule the job right away (I found out later that he came over on his day off), he showed up on time, the handle set works great, and the price was very reasonable. In fact we liked him so much we used him the following week to re-key the locks at our new house too. I just bought a house and I needed the locks re-keyed. So, I searched Yelp and Green Keys Locksmith was at the top of the list. Ben arrived on time and assessed the locks. I asked him if he could, also, take a look at why the deadbolts weren't locking all the way and he knew exactly what the problem was. Then when he took apart the front door lock, he showed me why the knob wasn't releasing all the way. He gave me his recommendations and he went to work. The one thing that was going through my mind was, "Does he have a replacement lock that will match the door's hardware?" Why, yes he does. His van is fully stocked. Very efficient. Oh, and with the new, matching deadbolt, I was able to put the face plate back on the door. Now, the door's lock and handle match, again. I had three locks that needed work and Ben is a true professional and knows his stuff. I can see why Ben has perfect 5 star reviews. Not only is he an awesome locksmith, he's honest and has a great personality. As he was working, he explained to me what he was doing and he even gave me a little bit of locksmith history. This guy deserves 10 out of 5 stars. He's truly a professional and definitely has the knowledge to back up his business. My 2 year old ended up locking us out of my 6 month old's nursery (Thank god, my baby was out of the room). And of course we did not have a key for it (we bought the house as-is). My husband and I just wanted the quickest response and Ben couldn't be at our house for a couple of hours since it was already 10:30pm, so we called someone else. BIG MISTAKE! We called Run-Local-Locksmith.com and it was horrible. Basically the person they sent out couldn't unlock our door and ruined our door jam. They gave us a ridiculous quote (which I was able to talk them down to HALF what they quoted at first). But I still had to give them $15 for coming out and trying (such bullshit, but I just wanted them out of the house at that point). Ok, so I join the Ben "fan club". I think Yelp is an awesome resource, and I found Ben on Yelp. I have a back door lock on an old French door arrangement that had given up the ghost and wouldn't lock anymore....and the deadbolt was stuck so I would actually lock myself in. Ben showed up in his mongo-van (at first a little daunting, until I realize he has his entire shop in the van--replacement parts, key-making facilities, machine shop, etc)--and spent a good amount of time assessing the least intrusive solution before he even started the work (comparing back door, front door, number of keys, etc), and then determined to FIX the old lock rather than replacing (which of course would have been the easy solution). He had to take a part that was sorely twisted and hammer it back to its straight position!!!!!!!!! Who does this kind of thing anymore?? Only a MASTER locksmith!
