i dig this place. i tried it for the first time with eyes wide open as other reviewers seized upon their most salient trait - prices that make a hedge funder look twice. we can't debate that. hilariously not a single instance on the menu of a single digit price. sandwiches in the 30s, apps puzzlingly mostly priced at $18. it is almost like they're running some kind of social experiment but high price begets high expectations. i called their bluff and ordered 4 items, with the logic that 4 was better than 1. And I reasoned that if I could keep the tab under $100, I would somehow walk away with the upper hand, assuming of course that the food was epic i'd say half the menu is fairly straightforward renditions of the classic originals - matzoh ball soup, pastrami, pelmeni - and half are what can be thought of as chef- driven elevated immigrant food - eg pastrami donut with baked been essence. my goal here today is to see how they deliver the classics. here we go: matzoh ball soup - 4.2 out of 5. great matzoh ball flavor and texture, delicious broth pelmeni - 2.5 out of 5. Just can't see anyone seeking these out except for nostalgia purposes and they just had literally nothing to say. pass. fried potatoes - 4.3 out of 5. unique. expertly cut and double fried. Dill in the background. Just awesome and worth the health indulgence grilled hot dog - 5+ out of 5. Home run. I would return for this. And this handsome dog was the most modestly priced of everything, a steal at just $12. Made in house, awesome depth of flavor, fantastic bun, great sauerkraut. this really is the gold standard. read more

The hot dog and the bun were dried out like rocks, as if they were sitting in an oven on 250 degrees for the entire day. The Pastrami was also very dry not moist like it usually is. As a veteran of many kosher delis, I had mixed feelings about about giving this Deli a try. $5 for a can of soda was a red flag as advertised on their web site.. As a jewish guy I am always rooting for kosher style delis. First the positives, my sandwich combo of pastrami, corned beef coleslaw on toasted bread was delicious, but $36 was seeming over priced for me. Especially when compared to the gigantic sandwich proportions of Harold's. My dining companion was not happy with her bread on her corned beef sandwich. Faux rye bread. The corned beef deserved better. Over all my supervisor ( wife) says we will not return Hope the prices return to earth orbit and they get some real rye bread. The waitress was great. read more

I ate here for the first time today with my husband while we were on the hunt for good matzoh ball soup. Greenwich and Delancy didnt disapoint. The soup was very good and we also ordered the chicken schnitzel fingers which was perfectly made (not too heavily fried, a touch of dill seasoning and moist chicken). The Veriniki was also really nice with their sauce. We were able to try the chicken blintz and matzah, babka, pastrami donuts - all so flavorful and different. I'd never tried anything like that and it was really refreshing to explore something new. The service was also very attentive and nice. I moved from NYC to Greenwich 3 years ago and often wondered why we didnt have great Jewish food options out here besides a few bagel places. The energy in this place was very bad. It was dark, cold, and so quiet. The food was extremely overpriced while having menus printed on 8"x11" printer paper... Felt like I had to whisper the whole time because it was so quiet in this small space. The pickles tasted like a scented candle, very chemical like.. The server was very kind and gave us tastings of some dishes which was nice! Also, the bathroom was very clean with high quality products. I wanted to love this place as an NY "ex-pat" who loves a good deli, but when I stopped by for a pastrami and soup, they were out of soup! At lunchtime! And the pastrami was nothing like Katz's or 2nd Ave Deli. Some pretty fatty unchewable bits. I guess it will satisfy the craving for some and they were friendly, but that wasn't enough for me to become a repeat diner. I ordered a pastrami sandwich and chocolate rugula. I also asked for some mustard on the side and I was offered pickles to which I said yes please. The cost was $44... I was a bit shocked how expensive this was. Got home and opened the bag of food and the mustard and picked were not in there... very disappointing The size of the sandwich was moderate... no where near what you get in NYC at a place like Katz deli. Just had lunch (for three). Yes, this is pricey, I guess. But we all agreed that we have never had pastrami remotely this good and that comes from three people with major pastrami experience. It is every bit as flavorful and tender but with zero fat as any fatty pastrami. No, it's not quite the same gargantuan size that you might find elsewhere else but one sandwich was good enough for three of us to split along with one knish and one order of pigs in a blanket. Even the pickles were remarkable. Unusual taste and amazing crisp crunch. Pickled tomatoes (I think) were something else I've never had. Staff could not have been better. I would imagine that dinner time gets significantly crowded and this is the type of food that just isn't gonna travel well. Thank goodness we live 50 some odd miles away! The BLT tasted like eating metal, the corned beef was fatty and tough, the chicken soup was tasteless and the tuna tasted like mashed gefilte fish. To add insult the service took forever. pastrami and potato pierogies were totally delicious - melt in your mouth, incredibly delicious! probably the best pastrami i've ever had! on the other end of the spectrum, the donuts were absolutely horrible. do not get them. they were hard tiny balls of totally fried dough - totally fried through to the very middle. don't know how they were served to us that way. if i were the chef, i would've thrown them in the garbage where they belonged. also didn't care for the fried potatoes - expected french fries but they were more like potato chips coated in garlic. the prices are ridiculous - like manhattan Michelin star restaurant prices. i'd go back, but only for the deli meat and some of the appetizers. read more

This is a truly top rate restaurant, serving superb food with knowledgeable and caring staff in a lovely setting. As a deli you can do take outs. I brought 6 of us here for a special lunch. Most of the food was fine, however, my BLT was not. The beef bacon was dried out, without flavor. More interestingly, there was no tomato. Came here with the family- super hungry - after a ski trip and it did not disappoint. Everything we ordered was better than the next. It felt and tasted like I was coming home and having all my favorite foods from my childhood. The staff is so friendly and warm- they sent out many complimentary dishes which were all amazing. We went there last night and it was quite interesting. First they bring you a few tidbits, matzah babka and chicken blinzes, they were both delicious. My husband loved the house made pastrami,. The smoked brisket was good too. Although we got there early and it wasn't busy but the service was very, very slow. it took 30 minutes to get out delicious potato dumplings. But they were out of a number of items, chicken dumplings, two different desserts. One of the stranger things is that they have show challahs as decorations but only offer seeded or unseeded bread as an option for sandwiches. Unfortunately, it took fifteen minutes from the time they brought out the first sandwich until they brought out the 4th sandwich, two pastrami and two smoked brisket sandwiches. Fire broke out from kitchen...everyone rushed to the exit... You can imagine a horrifying scene. It was a BIG frame coming out from the open kitchen to customers' tables. Then a chef came outside and said "everything is okay. Everything is under control." I wanted to ask him "did you ask if we were okay???" One of the customers asked if they were okay. And he said no one was hurt in the kitchen. There was a pregnant woman and a person with difficulty walking. We all ran to the exit. It was not "everything was okay." My heart was pounding from scarcity. I understand it was an accident. But clearly they didn't care how we were, but how they looked. They went all in the kitchen and no one stayed outside with us. There are more that I wanted to say about their unprofessional service. But I am so done with this place. Happy to take this comment down if you give me a proper explanation. read more

We were here yesterday when a fire broke out in the kitchen. Four tables were occupied. We all ran outside. What was striking to me is that no alarms or sprinklers were activated. It was a quick event and we were all able to return to our tables. What struck me is that there wasn't any overwhelming concern shown for the customers. Everything went back to normal. I'm not one to ever ask for a freebie, but if there ever was a situation where I think the restaurant should have comped the customers, this was it. They gave me a packaged cookie on the way out with no apologies about the event. It was the error of the cook who tried to put out a grease fire with water. This resulted in a large, scary fireball that "escaped" the wall that was separating the cooking area from the rest of the restaurant. I was struck by the lack of training and the lack of concern for the customers. read more

I don't care how much money is in greenwich people are not stupid they will not pay $27 for a sandwich 16 four soup and 5 for a can of soda. It's a lunch sandwich. You won't make it. The locations terrible. Few minutes either direction can get you better food. Not kosher but better food.
