So good being 8 mos pregnant and looking for fried chicken I am so glad I found this place . The coating wasn't overly thick like so many places, and not super greasy. Fantastic and fresh fried chicken. We've had the chunks and pieces, chunks (chicken chunks) come in a variety of flavored from sauces. BBQ and plain are both great. Sides such as baked beans, mashed potatoes are excellent as well. Owner is often on the frier and friendly. Plan to take out and bring home as there's no indoor seating, possibly some picnic tables outside in warmer months. They also sell rolls from the local bakery, which go really well with the chicken and sides. As far as the pieces go we've only had the chicken breast which is always most and fantastic. I haven't had fried chicken like this since a visit to the south when I was a child. They just don't make it like that up here. The salads and rolls were divine too, especially the macaroni salad, but the star was the chicken. Been going here for years, excellent fried chicken. My favorite is the fried livers and gizzards. Best kept secret is the Sofrito they make and have in the freezer, you need to ask for it. Its excellent reheated and put over pasta. Order ahead and save yourself the wait, they get very busy around lunch and dinner time. Counter area gets a bit mobbed and chaotic sometimes. We went waaay out of our way to try Greer's and we were not disappointed. We got the 8-piece. Our sides were potato salad, cole slaw, baked beans, and mashed potato with gravy. While we waited for our food, we got talking to Rich, the owner. When he discovered that it was our first time and that we had driven from South Windsor, he gave us a small order of chicken chunks to try. Yum! These babies do not even need a sauce. We ate at one of the tables under the trees, even though it was a bit breezy. The chicken is juicy and perfectly cooked. The breading is light. Seems like just flour, salt, and black pepper. Simple. Yes, most use more seasoning than that, but it just didn't seem necessary. Crispy and not at all greasy, this chicken is all that you could want. I had the potato and the beans. Although I would call the potatoes standard, the gravy was thick and tasty. The beans were delicious! My husband had the slaw and the potato salad. If pressed, he said he would choose the slaw over the potato, but only by the smallest of margins! We are looking forward to checking out Greer's and Beers sometime soon. i just got food poisoning from greers last night.i had there chicken bites which came with ranch dipping sauce.i had mashed potatoes with gravy and a roll.to top it all off i had a slice of chocolate cake which was the best part of the meal.after about two hours everything came back up all night.my husband had some of my chicken and part of the cake and he felt fine.so it has to be the mashed potatoes or gravy.or even the dipping sauce.i am very disapointed in greer"s its suppose to be the best around.i wont be eating there ever again. read more
