I have been eating Geers chicken for over 18 years, The last month I bought it and it was fair, not great. To night I purchased a 12 piece, The chicken tasted old and dried out. My first piece was a wing and it tased like burnt oil. The rest of the chicken was very dry and had no flavor, Boarder line inedible, We ate three pieces of the 12 piece's and threw it out. It was so dry you could not swallow it. I don't know if their oil is hot or burnt and if they are buying lower quality products, But I know one thing I will not be going back, It was a waste of $50.00 for the dinner. You could wail at drive by this little spot but the inside is bubbling of the fryers. Prices are decent so worth supporting local. We got the fried chicken which was tasty. Greer's is a longtime Bristol institution, and outsiders in the know make the trip to the takeout and outside picnic table only shack. In addition to tasty bone-in, Greer's has "chicken chunks", nuggets, fries and other fried sides, Mac N Cheese, Mashed Potaoes, and classic cookout sides like coleslaw, potato salad, and macaroni salad. All the sides (mashed potatoes, Mac N Cheese, coleslaw, and Macaroni salad) we tried were a cut or two above the normal. Over the course of two days, I tried a breast, thigh and drumstick. All high quality chicken. The breading has a minimalist vibe. I'm cool with that style. I could use a touch more seasoning, but I'm a fan of Greer's chicken. I like the chunks even more. Air fryers now make enjoying Greer's possible for a wider range of people. I live about 30 minutes from Greer's, but I air-fried the chicken pieces for 5 minutes at 360 and it was right on. I also put some Mac and Mashed Potatoes in a small oval Pyrex and air-fried them with the chicken. The sides were perfect after this re-heating. While I was waiting for my order, a woman came in and ordered THREE chicken pot pie's. I asked her why 3. She told me because "they're that good. And one is for a bribe." There you have it. I just purchased a mashed potato bowl which used to be my favorite. This one tasted like pesticides and the chicken was old. I am scared that I might get sick. Something was going on in there because when I picked up my order it wasn't ready even though I was there 15 minutes later than the time they told me to pick up the food plus when I got there the girl in the front yelled at the kitchen "Hey...that order of the mashed you guys been talking about, is it ready?"...I wonder what they were talking about? Initial reaction, I'm confused because it seems like a residential area but there's a fried chicken place? Heck yeah. When you go against the grain, hopefully you have a good explanation as to why and for Greer's, let me see if I can break this one down properly. Upfront, the customer service here is amazing. Both women behind the counter were nothing short of amazing. This is definitely a small shack like establishment and you have some parking but not a lot. Do not expect to dine inside here for they do not have much space for any indoor tables. I will start with their chicken chunks which are basically made fresh to order vs you ordering tenders, which are frozen. The Chicken chunks were tasty and thick little pieces of chicken (think poppers) but larger in size. A nice crunch to the bite with very little seasoning here and so I dipped mine into their housemade honey mustard. It was tangy and creamy, a nice dipping addition here. The Crinkle Cut Fries were salted up just right and the more I ate, the crispier the fries became as I sunk deeper into the fry box. A taste of French fry Bliss indeed. We were on a roll so far but then we arrive at the Macaroni & Cheese...... The cheese sauce seemed curdled and didn't have the best overall flavor to it. My spiral elbows were harder than normal for me and so this Mac and Cheese did not pack a powerful bite nor was it friendly. It seemed as if I took bites of despair with this one. If loneliness had a taste, this would be it. Which brings us to their cornbread. Dense and thick for this small piece and so you will instantly need something to drink for it will truly absorb all of the space in your throat and FAST!! Slight butter taste but I am not sure as to the cornmeal used on this one, just wasn't doing it for me. Now for our MAIN...The chicken itself. It's rare that I come across extremely light chicken. Almost as if it was fried with the first round of flour, taken out and floured up again for a quick blanch fry. Don't look to taste any seasoning here for again, lightly salted and its flavor was lack luster in sight of many other chicken spots. This place is so cute, and so good! It's located on the cusp of a residential area in Bristol, and I would recommend calling in your order ahead of time. The inside has enough room for a line of customers to order and pick up, and the rest is devoted to cooking. There are picnic tables outside, but most people seem to pay and go. (Then your car smells like delicious chicken) The corn bread is moist with a honey layer on top, and the mac and cheese is downright velvety. However, the star is their fried chicken. I had their chicken chunks and fried pickles from their food truck. The food was mediocre, taste was rather dull. Their sauce tasted good. I used the sauce to mask the taste of the oil. The chicken was tender and crispy. It just lacked any real character or flavor. The fried pickles looked like stringy pieces of pickles, most of which the crust fell off. When in Rome do as the Roman do. That's my story with Greer's. One of my close friends loves this place so when we visit them and head to Lake Compounce or Imagine Nation we stop at Greer's. FYI: I have been to Greer's about 4 or 5 times. We stopped on Saturday. This was the first time it's been good weather and we utilized their only eating area, outside! There are about 3 picnic tables under a some trees. For a sunny, hot day we were in the shade. Also, there is a little babbling brook that runs right along the eating area and behind the chicken shack. This allowed for a bit of fun with the kids crossing the brook, stone throwing and rock jumping. I usually have the chicken bites but there were some chicken wings sitting out. I felt like a whole new world was about to open up for me at Greer's! I tried the honey BBQ and it was alright. I can say fresh and meaty, but next time I will stick without a flavor. The chicken chunks are always consistent- crunchy! Their fries, standard. I can say Greer's gets major points for bringing it back old school McDonald's style and serves honey as a sauce! When did this place become terrible? I grew up in Bristol & Greers was always a staple for my family. I ordered recently for dinner - chicken chunks (plain and buffalo), a few pieces of fried chicken, fries, onion rings, a roll and cornbread and a slice of cake. The person that took my phone order was friendly but whoever I dealt with inside wasn't very friendly. The chicken chunks were dry & tasted as if they were either reheated or sitting. The fried chicken was incredibly dry & bland along with the piece that I had tasted off (hoping I don't get sick!) The fries and onion rings were standard, the cornbread was decent and the roll was a Harvest Bakery roll so with that you can't go wrong. The slice of cake which was $6.50 for a slice (WOW!) somehow seemed like a mix of cake and cheesecake, the bottom seemed to be a chocolate graham crust with mousse and a very dry cake on top. Overall incredibly disappointed as this is not the same Greers I had grown up on. Will not return... you can get better fried chicken at KFC or Popeyes. read more

Spending some of my childhood in Bristol meant that Greer's Chicken was bound to be on the table sometimes. This small what I presume is a family run business offers fried chicken, fried chicken chunks, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, and a ton of other things I never took the time to try because fried chicken is my food lover. It's been roughly 4 1/2-5 years since my last visit to Greer's (I live in Buffalo, NY now) and when I heard a large portion of food was being delivered to my parents house via a friend, I became overwhelmed with nostalgia and joy. I was able to indulge in both the full fried chicken and the chicken chunks and both of them were absolutely amazing. I don't know what these guys do, but they do it better then almost anyone else ever ever ordered fried chicken from. This stuff is as juicy and flavourful as you could possibly want and the prices aren't bad too match it. Overall, Greer's is the undisputed fried chicken king of the state of Connecticut. This spot is super popular with the locals. Situated on a semi-residential block with homes directly across the street, stands a quaint little shack that resembles one of Adam Richman's pre-game food stops before starting his Man Vs. Food challenge on the Travel Channel. As we walked into Greer's, we were greeted very happily by this young guy behind the counter who energetically asked us if this was our first visit, we both responded with a resounding, 'Yes'. 'Young guy', then proceeds to give us a rundown of some of the items off of the menu board and includes that all items are fried to order...you can't get any fresher than that. Listed on the menu are other non-chicken items such as cole slaw, plus potato and macaroni salads. But, we stayed the course and only ordered the fried chicken of which we chose the 8 piece assortment as well as an order of their fried chicken chunks. The chunks came in a pretty large, Chinese food takeout container, that looked to be either 26oz or 32oz, pretty large indeed. Accompanied with all orders comes a choice of two dipping sauces, any additional sauce will cost a mere .50 cents. We both acknowledged that it was a good thing we came early, as additional customers started to trickle into Greer's making it clear that this spot is popular with the locals. The wait for our food was much faster than expected, considering everything was being prepared to order. There are two chairs for sitting and waiting, but no main seating area to eat your meal. So after a quick exchange of funds for the goods, we thanked 'Young Guy', and headed to the nearest broad opened parking area to sample a few pieces of our order. Out of our two items, we really enjoyed the aptly named chicken chunks. They were fresh, thick and tender breast meat, that were seasoned very well to the point where they hardly needed any sauce. The fried chicken was good, but I would opt out and stick with the chicken chunks, if ever in Bristol again. After having our quick sampling of each of our items before our long ride back home, it was easy for us to see why this homemade-type of down south, feel good, fried chicken juke joint called Greer's has a following.
