My car needed a bunch of maintenance done, which I was dreading because of the cost of repairs. I decided to take a chance on Greg's instead of taking it to the Honda dealership (which I normally do). The location was convenient because of the proximity to my home. They also have a courtesy vehicle and were able to take me back home and pick me up when my car was done. Unfortunately, I got a call shortly after dropping off the car, that they found some other things that needed to be replaced/fixed. Their prices definitely seem comparable to the dealership and Curtis was very professional and explained what all needed to be done, etc. Overall, pleased with their service. read more

Curtis was very helpful and ran the diagnostics for FREE because he realized it was a problem with the main battery in my hybrid Prius and he did not have the parts and labor capability to replace it. Took car in for coolant leak on rear side of engine. They said likely water pump but I was skeptical due to origin of coolant (rear side of engine). 1hr and 45 min. later they call saying car is ready for pick-up. Arrive 15 min before close and pay. Drive vehicle home 1.5 blocks and leave it idling while I get flashlight. Lay down on mat and look underneath only to find it's still leaking from the same origin and at the same steady rate. WTF! $417.XX for nothing. They also: 1. Failed to make any call prior to working on vehicle. 2. Never made any mention of the leak that wasn't repaired. (Same leak I noted just prior to dropping vehicle off). They've lost several customers as a result. read more

I have a 95 accord and it's a piece of crap but it's getting me from a to b. The front is all crunched in but it still drives. One of my headlights went out and my boyfriend and I had trouble changing it so we went over there thinking we'd have to leave the car there and have them take the front off. We already had a light bulb so we went in and said what was going on and the manager came out right there and then and fixed it for us. We got the wrong light bulb so we had to buy on there for $15 and that's all he charged us for. I was very grateful I'll definitely be back they were super nice. read more

I had my car towed from Seattle to the Renton Sunset location for repair of an alternator. After the repair was completed, the car had a terrible noise that sounded as if it was from the muffler system below. I took the car back to them to see if maybe the car was damaged from the tow. Initially, they stated that they couldn't find anything, but then looked again and said that they DID find something and would have to replace the entire muffler system that would cost over $1500 dollars for the repair. I almost decided to have a dealership do the work, however, I decided to take the car to Bucky's Auto repair who specialized in mufflers. They didn't see anything wrong with the system after placing it on the rack and then they asked me, "what repair did you have done at Greg's?" I stated "the alternator was replaced." They looked at the engine area and two of the covers that they didn't close from the repair were still loose. Once they tightened the covers, the noise disappeared. I used to think Greg's was dependable in servicing my Hyundai, but after a diagnostic review that could have cost me hundreds of dollars, they lost my business and makes me wonder of past services. read more

We have 4 cars in our family that we have been bringing to Greg's in Renton for years which has added up to 1000s and 1000s of dollars of work. They always treated us great and we always felt relieved and less stressed knowing we had a trustworthy and reliable place to bring our vehicles when we had problems. My 21 year old son had his car in there in August for a new transmission. They replaced it, my son paid them $2200 over the phone and he went to pick up his car after hours. The car wouldn't start. He called the next day and they ran diagnostics and told him his starter needed replacing even though the starter worked when he brought it in. Since we were trying to teach our son how to take care of car issues without his parents' help, he called and negotiated and they rudely settled on and my son reluctantly agreed upon a cost of $100 dollars to fix what had been working when he brought it in for a different issue altogether. When he went to go pick up the car, they took complete advantage of his age, rudely told him if he wanted his car, the charge was $395, not the agreed upon $100, and if he didn't want to pay it, they could take it to the back and remove the new starter, leaving his car inoperable. Since my son needed his car immediately for work, he wasn't happy about it but he begrudgingly paid the amount. We had to go through our bank to get the money back they basically stole from my son by forcing him pay for something that was working when he brought it in. The bank agreed after a 2 month investigation we were entitled to get our money back. This very last experience with them was incredibly unethical and shady. Not to mention, their newer counter people are rude and unscrupulous to their longtime customers. I'm not certain they will care, but Greg's should look at our account and see how much money we've spent at their establishment over the years and how much they have lost in the future now that we will never go back. read more

BEWARE, these thieves are the type to judge you base on your appearance. If you LOOK like your not mechanically incline they will start plotting as soon as you tell them your problems. They may look like there listening and taking notes but they are just planning of EXTRAS they can charge you with such as breaking an oil pan gasket just to be quoted for a new ENGINE or even going in for a little transmission tune up and ending up buying a new one because they told you it was severely damage, no longer functional, and they're worried about your safety. I trust the guys at Greg's. Two years ago my car was leaking oil and I fearfully took it in to Greg's, expecting that the bill would be in the thousands. They diagnosed the problem and fixed it. I have had several stops at Greg's in the past few years. Just the other day I took my car in because it was making a funny noise--I was sure it was a major repair, but the guys diagnosed the problem as a faulty tensioner bearing. They replaced it for far less than I expected and I was back on the road in a couple of hours. I always take my car to Greg's knowing that they will diagnose, repair and stand by their work. I bought a '99 Nissan Altima last summer (stupidly) without doing a pre-buy. Shortly after buying it, the timing belt ripped in half. Not knowing what to do, eventually we had my car towed to Greg's. It was close by and we had heard good things about them. From the outset, they were helpful and friendly and worked with us every step of the way to get my car back up and running (no small task- it was leaking oil and coolant from just about everywhere and had more problems that I thought possible). Martin was kind enough to show us the mountain of defunct parts that caused the problems and took us out onto the shop floor to show us why everything was going wrong. A few months later, my car had been making an intermittent squeaking noise. I took it in to ask them what to do and they gave me a courtesy recheck which revealed that my lower oil pan was leaking. It was fixed in a very timely manner. The squeak was still unresolved, however, so I brought it back again and they offered me another courtesy recheck which didn't uncover any new problems. I was unable to get my car to reproduce the squeak, of course, as it always seems to be with intermittent problems- they fix themselves the second you drive it into the shop. they sent me on my merry way and told me to stop by anytime and they would take another look. Finally, I decided that since I was due for an oil change anyway, I would take it to Greg's (I had a bad experience with Jiffy Lube for my previous one) and have them check out my brakes, since I suspected they were the source of the noise and they had been grinding recently anyway. They got me all fixed up and I should be set for quite some time- but when I need service again, I will definitely bring it back to Greg's! read more

Oh where do I start......honestly I took the car in for one thing which took 2 years to officially diagnosis (mind you paid for like 10 other things they thought it could be). After that 15 other things came up. It was like taking the car in for 1 item and having another brake in 3 months. They were nice but each time something different always seemed to break. Shining moment they have a one year warranty on their work (which they used multiple times....to fix their own work). HOWEVER, if they magically find something else wrong bc the work they keep doing keeps failing then the warranty is negated. Now you may ask why I stuck around so long....another shining moment they are slightly cheaper then the dealership and work on cars that are a little older. Conclusion, don't come here. Go anywhere else. Now I can't speak for other Gregs locations/mechanics but I can say this one sucks. read more

Ripoff alert!!!!! I have been going to Gregs for over 10 years. I brought my Honda in for check engine light and was told bad sensor so spent 700 to replace. 1 month later car had bad sound and oil light was on they said just needed plugs and oil change and some maintenance so I spent another $650. After driving of the lot I noticed the same noise and it was worse I called them back and told them about the problem. They told me to bring it in after the weekend when I did they walked out heard the noise and said I needed a new engine! !! I was angry about the fact I just spent 650 not to mention why they didn't check the oil during the first visit ( which probably the reason my engine blew ) he asked me if I wanted the 650 returned to my account for the misdiagnosis which I agreed however when I would not commit to replacing the engine they wanted their parts back before returning the money. ( even though that was not said when I was deciding on the new engine ) when I got upset and said he was going back on what he said they threw me out of the store. Do not take your vehicle here and let all your friends know as well that this place will take your money and not solve anything and in my case ruin your vehicle. read more

Greg's was the one I chose to take my '99 Lexus for all the necessary work/maintenance because previously before we moved away for several years, we used to take our old car there and never had any issues or complaints. Now that we live here again, I brought my Lexus in after calling the dealer to find out how (gasp!) costly it was to have regular maintenance done. As a matter of fact, the dealer wanted to replace my computer at the tune of hundreds when I showed them it was not working properly... well, at Greg's Martin said, hang on... be right back. He came out with a little sensor and laid down on the ground (summer months.. LOL) and reached up under my bumper and took off the old nonworking sensor and plugged in the new one. I stood there with my mouth open. He got in with me and *ta da*! It was fixed. $35 for the part, no labor. Pooh on you, Lexus dealer! They have changed lightbulbs for no labor, and I wish I could remember everything they've done for no labor charge over the last two years on this car. They have thus far done all my oil changes, front brakes, and the last one was the 180K maintenance. They ALWAYS give you more than you expect, and this time I spent a lot of money getting that 180K maintenance done - probably around the ballpark of the dealer price (maybe.. I dunno) BUT! They gave me a discount through their program, plus they gave me a rental car while they had it in the shop overnight. They drive you wherever you need to go if it is inconvenient for you to have your car there for a few hours. They may have a limit, but I don't know what it is. They call you when they say they're going to. They have you come into the garage and speak to the technician. It feels very personal. Rob and Martin are probably the best I've ever dealt with in the car repair business. They explain everything thoroughly and give you choices and options. I didn't follow up on Martin's recommendation of having a seal replaced several months ago found during my oil change and it came back to bite me last week. Now I feel confident that if they tell me I need something done, they aren't kidding. I can think of a few other businesses that could learn a thing or two about customer service from these guys. Lastly... they greet me by name when I walk in the door and they couldn't be more accommodating or polite. The waiting area and restroom is spotless and the garage is, too. read more

I loved this shop and have been bringing my van and truck for service here, until last time. I will not come back here anymore or recommend anyone. What happened was I had this shop service all brakes, rear and front, for my Odyssey van (in 2013, with ~103K odo) The van is going well until I heard loud metal grinding on the rear wheel. I brought it back to the shop, thinking anything but the brakes. Well the inspection is done and the conclusion was rear pad worn to metal, I'd have to replace the pad and the rotor (~130K on odometer). The guy explained to me that the rear pad is smaller than the front ones, which still has 6/10, thus wear out faster. I do not believe it. It could have worn out, but to the metal after only 27K, with no difference in driving condition, with front pad still 6/10? My conclusion is either they did not service the rear brake in 2013, or they had a dirt cheap pad, the former is very likely. Anyway, I am very disappointed at this shop now. read more

I am giving Greg's a two star review not because of the service, but because my sunglasses were missing from the car. I took my wife's car in twice, first the AC compressor went out. The front desk guy Curtis was friendly and professional and they had the car done quickly and professionally (AC works great). The second time my wife's breaks were acting up and had feed back. ABS was kicking on for no reason. Took it in and again the front desk was great. This time however when I got home I realized I left my sunglasses in the cup holder. I thought no big deal they figured the diagnostic would be done the next day day and I could get the car and my sunglasses. When i picked up the car I realized the were not there and informed the front desk that they were missing. They said that they would ask the people working on it if they had seen it. I said okay I will go home and double check to make sure I'm not crazy. When I called this morning it was just a sorry no one know we will tell you if someone says they find it. I do not blame Greg's for the actions of one person but if you go there make sure all your stuff it taken out because someone will take it. read more

I'm extremely disappointed and upset that they lied to a woman that I know and took advantage of her and the situation! Someone had already stolen her car and broke the ignition by leaving a piece of a screwdriver in there. I'm a Locksmith by trade all they had to do was remove the ignition either remove the cylinder or send it to a locksmith they will remove the cylinder put a new one in then reattach ignition job done... Instead first they told her she needed to replace the entire column which would start around $600 then that didn't need to be replaced it was just the ignition. They lied, changed their story numerous times and, took advantage of someone who didn't know what was going on. WILL NOT BE RECOMENDING TO ANYONE! read more

I got ripped off here back in 2010 when I brought my SUV in for a faulty-sensor code on my anti-lock brakes. They correctly determied that it was the sensor at the rear differential, which was an $89 part at auto-parts stores, and held into place by a single screw on the outside of the rear differential housing. They called and claimed that they had to remove the rear differential cover to remove the sensor. They notified me that it would cost hundreds of $ more than originally quoted. I said sure, I guess, whatever it takes. When I went to pick up my SUV, they charged me over $500 for the service. they showed me the sensor -- it looked like someone laid it on an anvil and hit it with a hammer, not like someone punched it lengthwise out a hole from inside a differential housing. When I later examined the differential housing, the bolts didn't appear to have had a socket on them. What these people didn't know is that I grew up in a neighborhood full of gearheads -- we were constantly rebuilding engines and modifying early-model Chevys and such. I also have worked for Bear Automotive (they build diagnostic computers) and Harley-Davidson at their headquarters in Milwaukee, WI, writing technical documentation. I was unable to service my Isuzy when I took it to GJA because at the time, I was renting and they didn't allow working on cars in the underground garage. GJA's removal-problem claim was bogus. What they claimed was a problem could have been handled in a few seconds with a small pry bar, from the outside of the differential housing -- if in fact the sensor was "stuck" in the differential housing. I was so pissed off that I didn't think to keep the old sensor, to show to manufacturer dealer to get their take on the need to (allegedly) remove the differential housing to remove the sensor, then subsequently take action against GJA. I've written this experience off as an expensive lesson. I seriously recommend taking your money and your car elsewhere. read more

Used Renton location last year for a broken ignition system lock in my Lexus. Had to have the vehicle towed in and the bill was added to the repair bill. Helped with a rental car and completed repairs as promised and at the price quoted. Back to them this year with a suspension problem that they could not figure out. Charged me for an oil change and NO charge for the unsuccessful disnostic attempt. Fair, friendly and, in my opinon, honest. Kudos the Manager Rob and his staff. I recommend them to others and will take my vehicle back to them. read more

Greg's replaced my EGR valve and all related parts in March 2013. On Tuesday, Dec 23rd 2013, I was having the exact same issues again. I left work early and took my car back to Greg's about 12:30 in the afternoon and described the problem to the an older guy at the desk. He said "it's not a problem with the EGR valve". I said "well, when can I have it looked at because the car keeps dying on me"? He said next Monday, the 29th!! I said it's still under warranty and that seems like a long time to wait. He said "I don't have anyone to work on it". I said I can't wait 6 days! I understood it was around the holidays but Geez! I took my car immediately to Meinke's (formally Walt's) at 64 Logan Ave in Renton. They took my car and looked at it. A little later they came out and showed me up how clogged up the EGR valve was. They soaked it and cleaned it and best of all, they did not charge me anything!!!! They told me Greg's should have taken care of me since the work was still under warranty. I highly recommend Meineke's in Renton!!!! read more

I took my Kia for repair in 2010 at Gregs [no power problem] esc warning light on, I asked one of the guy if they can fix Kia vehicles, he said they could. After diagnosis I was told they couldn't do it, because they don't have the proper tool to fix the problem. He told me if they buy the tool for the Kia it cost them 100K something. They charged me $100 for the diagnosis no repair was done. I took the diagnosis copy from Greg's, to Kia dealer, but KIa dealer won't honor Greg's diagnosis, so the Kia made their own diagnosis I ended up wasting my $100 at Gregs. I wasn't satisfied with that. read more

I really didn't want to write this review but for the sake of good customer service and good karma I am going to. Just to be honest and get straight to the point my experience was absolutely deplorable. Had a simple issue with my check engine light that should've easily been diagnosed. I make multiple trips and still get misdiagnosed and misquoted. My bf calls back and gets more context but still below par service for our money spent. I'm pretty liberal but these guys definitely will try you if your a young woman. Paid a pretty penny for some repairs (timing belt, cooling system) and came back a week later with the sensor issue. They inconvenienced me, tried to take advantage me and cost me time away from work. The manager Curtis specifically. He told me to get the wrong piece and ordered it after I confirmed with him twice. Went to Elliott's Tires, they alerted me of the issue but made a special order for the correct part that came same day. Had them both replaced but the whole thing was disappointing. Just demand better service for what your paying for. If I'm paying grands, I want a grand experience. read more

A couple years prior, my ex-neighbor had his car's clutch replaced by Greg's Auto in Seattle at Mercer Street. He thought they did a good job and he recommended. When we moved to Renton last year, my car was leaking badly. It was a new neighborhood, and I did not want to make a mess. I was too busy and did not do my homework. I was also kind of looking for a family mechanic since the shop was close to our home. I brought my car in and they were quite professional. They also gave me a shuttle ride when I picked up my car. But they misdiagnosed the problem. My Subaru Forester 2001 head gasket was almost gone and fresh engine oil was leaking like crazy. They convinced me the power steering rack was leaking. They charged me $1000 for the part and labor. I was so mad but patiently trying to find way to work with them. I asked them to give me a good discount for the head gasket job. They offered $100 discount for a $2000 job, and what irritated me most was the service manager did not admit that they made a mistake. So I bought my car to the 76 Gas Station a couple blocks down the street after getting a quote from the dealer, and those guys did a really good job. I then filed a complain with BBB and a small claim with the local District Court. The night before the court date, the owner called me and offered to resolve. I asked for $500 back because I thought it was an honest mistake. The owner seemed to be a good man. He was sorry and explained that sometimes he runs into bad guys, they come to work not ready. Of course any mechanic can do the job, but I would not recommend anyone to bring their car to Renton Craig's Auto for unknown problems. Also their rate is not much cheaper than the dealer. I will never bring my car there and changed my attitude toward those like 76 Gas Station (my first experience). My ex-neighbor who was a home mechanic, told me, "honest mechanics don't last". read more
