we were going to have a foot massage and noticed this bakery and decided to give it a go. I must say it was very good. We had a cup of tomato soup actually a bowl. Grelma surprised me. Staying in Delray Beach from Washington, D.C. for two weeks, I was on the search for the town's best bakery. Yelp sent me to Grelma. Walking up, it's in a strip mall, but what isn't in a strip mall in Delray Beach? The pastries are behind glass and they are BIG and over the top. Because of this, I didn't think they looked good. This Italian bakery is definitely not your ordinary bakery. They had the full range of pastries (croissants, muffins, tarts), but also some Italian specialities. Their Italian cream and Nutella croissants were made for me while I waited (they had run out in the display case). Note to self - make sure to ask if there is something you want that you don't see - it might be fresh out of the oven and not put out yet. I got the Italian cream and Nutella filled croissants for my office, and they were a HUGE hit. Decadent, but not heavy or over the top (though very generous sizes). I also got their little individual pizzas that are made in croissant dough. A perfect item to pick up for an easy lunch. Everything looked and smelled amazing. The owners make it seem they are doing Delray Beach a favor by giving their bakery items. Not overwhelming but you can taste it.), a pizzeta, Turkey on focaccia, and a prosciutto on Sfillatino EVO bread. The breads are so light and airy, they were all delicious! This place is a great find. I stumbled on it going to Walmart next door. It is a true authentic bakery. Right from Italy. The oblong white bread (the one on the left of the breads ) is outrageous. We went back to back to get the bread. Its magical. so soft in the inside and not real hard crust on the outside. AMAZING! This is an awesome find. I can't believe I did not know about it until this week. I read reviews and drooled over the pictures on Yelp so I knew I needed to try it. I went before 8AM to get a breakfast sandwich. It took a few minutes to cook so I had time to look over the other offerings. Wow. I ended up getting some additional pastries and a pizza to have later in the week, and a loaf of the lightest bread with a crispy crust that was to die for. We wanted to try Grelma's for quite some time; when we got there it was a bit late (we drove first to their location in West Boca which is now closed, so then headed toward Delray) so they didn't have all the good stuff: they go fast. We still managed to get a good focaccia, and 2 Italian pastries (each) with a good espresso. Among all the eateries that called themselves "Italian" in PBC, Grelma's is pretty much in the very small group of "really authentic". It is also a quaint café', nice and relaxing if you want to chill and take a break from today's crazy life. I love it when we find ethnic places that offer really authentic food and this Italian bakery is definitely one of them! We had planned to go there for breakfast, but due to some setbacks (including driving all the way to their former location on Palmetto Rd. in Boca, which Google map still shows as "open") we ended up arriving towards lunch time. The shelves were not full when we got there, and we ordered their last pizzetta: a big piece (enough for two people) of focaccia bread with cheese and salami - which was delicious. However, by the time we finished the pizzetta, they had displayed many more freshly baked items, and did so continuously while we were there. Unfortunately, we couldn't buy pastry to bring home, because we wouldn't get back to WPB until night, and the weather is too hot to keep any food in the car; so we "had to" try some of their pastries right there, and they were good! (Same for their coffee, imported from Italy). The place is not very big inside, but it's very bright, clean and the staff is very friendly; they also have a couple of tables outside.
