The selection is good depending on the day. The service is piss poor at best. And like many others they are usually out of most things, ammo, mags, holsters. The prices are a little more reasonable than Smoke and Barre,l but overall the prices are high. Gretas. What more needs to be said other than this is hands down THE BEST firearms store in all of Southern California if not the entire State. Not only is the entire staff welcoming and friendly, but they are some of the most knowledgeable I've come across. They have an INCREDIBLE selection of in-stock firearms and accessories and whatever they don't have they can get to you in a very timely manner. I've now bought several (maybe more) items that I'm extremely happy with. The only buyer's remorse I have with this store is I can't get everything I want there at the same time. Again, the staff is so genuine and helpful. Cody and the team run a very smooth operation. If you're lucky enough to catch Mike when he's not busy (almost never) hang on to your hats and glasses because he can take you on a ride. Never tries to upsell EVER! He patiently listens to your wants and needs and makes expert suggestions while explaining the how's and why's. I can without a shadow of a doubt say that I will not take my business anywhere else. I went to this gun store back in early 2013, and I wanted to take the handgun safety certificate test. I asked them how much the test was, and they said $40. I asked if I could take the test, and they said we are too busy. In other words, I could not take the test. The HGSC test was overpriced, because most places charge $25 for this test. They wouldn't let me take the test, because they were too busy. I have other complaints, like when I sold some of my guns consignment, they made a mistake when I went to pick up the money on the guns that were sold. The total amount of the guns sold was $25 less than what was agreed to. When I called them back later that day, they put me on hold and hung up. The staff are arrogant, not helpful, and they are not very friendly. They don't have a lot of new inventory, most of the stuff they sell are consignment merchandise. Most of the prices aren't reasonable. If you want to buy ammo, go buy it online. If you want to buy gun accessories, buy it on Amazon, CDNN investments, and other online stores. If you want to buy a new gun, go to La Gun. This place sucks. read more

Wanted to like this place, I've been in here several times. Unfortunately, they are consistently over priced, which has turned out to be no surprise to anyone into guns that I've spoken to. Maybe one time I've appreciated the customer service here, but the remainder of the time I've been treated with marked skepticism and unfriendly service like I'm some sort of criminal. The last time I visited, they sold me a box of plinking .45 ball ACP rounds (box of 50) to use with my brand new 1911 for $59. Just bought a box of .45 federal tactical HP +P rounds today at another shop in Simi for $45 plus tax. Won't fool me again, gretas. Would not recommend. read more

Yep, I was happy to have picked up my new XD45. It shot nice and straight right out of the box. I won't contribute that to Greta's, however Springfield Armory yes. Now, upon picking up my firearm and had a question that had lead me to mistreatment and poor customer service. California State law says that a Dealer cannot charge more then $25 for A DROS (Dealer Record of Sale) however they can charge a handling fee in addition to the DORS however it must be on a separate line item. So when my receipt was written up for the Gun, the line item DROS was $35. This started some confusion. When I questioned him on the DROS fee he got very offensive and said I was wrong, "the DROS is $35 and always has been". The discussion carried on for a few minutes before he boldly and rudely said, "Now you listen to me and you listen good, I've been doing this for 35 years and the DROS is always $35, and we get $10". My comment to him was "so then you're adding a dealer handling fee that's all I wanted to know. This could have been handled differently, he could have said, "Yes you are right, the California DROS is $25.00 but by law we are allowed to charge a $10 handling fee and I'm sorry it wasn't line itemed correctly on your receipt". This would have been the appropriate approach. Since the law does state the gun shop has to line item the DROS fee and the Dealer handling fee separately, and because of the way I was treated, I have made a photo copy of the receipt and I am sending it with a statement to the Department of Justice. It may be a simple clerical error, but being that rude to a customer asking a simple question is not acceptable. Not only was I there to pick up my Hand Gun, I was there to Purchase a 7mm Mag and a Tactical Shotgun. After signing for my gun, I simply walked out and will never walk in there again. I previously mentioned that I would buy there because the price is right. I was wrong; I would pay $500 more for the same gun elsewhere then do business there again. If anyone else has a Line Item Mistake on the DROS fee, I too recommend you send it to the DOJ. The law is the law.... read more

Worst experience at a gun store, EVER! I went in to do a transfer as the seller and was only asked for an ID, nothing else. After the transaction was complete, I was given a receipt and got paid from the buyer. I was on my way home, when I received a phone call that they needed a copy of my passport or birth certificate; or they wouldn't release the fire arm to the buyer. So in other words, even though the buyer had already paid me, the gun still would've been returned back to me. No consideration whatsoever for the customer. When I asked why did they do business like that, they wouldn't give me an answer. It's obvious they just wanted their transfer fee right then and there and who cares if the buyer loses their money or not. I guess that explains the outrageous prices. Never again will I or my family continue to do business there. We rather go somewhere else that has a better system that protects the customer. I was also talked down to because I didn't have the buyers last name on hand which you would think since the store called me in for more information, that they would already have it on file. It's obvious that this was a mistake on their part, a simple acknowledgement and apology would've gone a long way. Their customer service skills need improvement, after all, without customers, there's no business. read more

When I first visited the store in 2007 I got great service. I also got a great gun at an awesome price. Recently, however, I performed a PPT transaction. I was told that their policy is to only perform one PPT per person per day, violating state law. While I do understand that they only make 10 dollars per transaction, their policy is illegal. On the upside, they perform SSE, which is great for those people who want to go that route. They also have a good selection of items, especially for law enforcement. However, their prices are MSRP. This in and of itself isn't bad, but when you have stores like Turners who have weekly sales, it just doesn't make sense to shop here. read more

This is the best gun shop I have dealt with! Clean and well stocked store. When I first walked in I saw three employees behind the counter engaged in a conversation. As I approached them they gave me their undivided attention and that speaks volumes because they are respectful and professional. I did not expect or get a "Walmart" signature greeting and I'm ok with that. I asked many many questions and I acknowledge I'm a tough customer to deal with. I was transferred to Chris and he put me on the right path. He had the answers I was looking for and he beat the prices I was quoted at other gun shops by a margin. His service is EXCEPTIONAL and I have since been back and placed Custom orders for over 6 firearms. This is your typical mom and pop kinda shop and will always have people that don't like personal service. As for myself, this is the kind of place I love to give my business to. When I am bored I come into this shop. I have purchased only one gun here a S&w 10 shot 22 revolver. It was a good price and it was before the ammo craze so no one was really interested. This shop is no different than any other shop. In 30 seconds you can be spotted if you don't have a clue or just spend your days reading guns and idiots. The shop has a full stock. The staff has a solid knowledge and the prices are high. Yes. Very high. They have cornered the market in town and they know it. Most of the other shops have closed. With that said if you know what you are looking for act nice and can haggle you can get what you want close to the price you want. No price is ever firm in a gun store do dicker a bit. I had an excellent experience at Greta's!!! Here's what happened to me as a first-time gun owner with many questions and specific expectations: 1) They were the only store I could find in the US that had some new Les Baer TRS .45's on order, set to arrive the week after I called in fact. This was more luck than anything, but so far so good. 2) I was out of town on business the week the gun would arrive, so they suggested I take and pass the HSC exam (This is my first gun purchase) and fill out all the required paperwork. This way, they could register the gun when it arrives and then my 10-day mandatory wait clock could begin. As I was out of town for at least 5 days after their arrival, I'd only have to wait 5 before I could pick it up. Great suggestion on their part! 3) The HSC exam only cost $25 4) The gun was $100s cheaper at Greta's than anywhere else I was quoted for the same pistol (combined total of 16 online and local stores) 5) I spoke to the owner, manager and a couple of employees about the gun, supplies, other guns, maintenance tips, etc. They were all very knowledgable, friendly and just flat-out cool people to talk to about this stuff. The owner let me check out his older Les Baer TRS...and woah...what a gun! I'm really pumped about this purchase! 6) They kindly cut me a nice discount on the cleaning/maintenance/safety supplies as well Conclusion: The folks at Greta's took great care in making sure I was welcome, informed and comfortable with my new hobby. I particularly like the passion they have for firearms. They were less expensive than any other place I looked at for the type of firearms I'm interested in. I got the gun, the test and a bunch of supplies, all for $100s less than I could get just the gun for anywhere else. Businesses of any nature could and should provide the same level of customer service that these folks did. I personally will do a lot of return business with these folks soon. read more

This store is geared towards a "Client" environment. (read on) Went in looking for a tactical shotgun and a Glock 21 45 ACP, I found and purchased both but I will tell you they absolutely were a bit over priced BUT there is something to consider about that. When I go to Turners I end up waiting 60 minutes just to buy ammo, not cool for me as my time is always very limited and precious to me. Their service was fine and I did not encounter the "Cold Response" some have complained about but probably that was due to the fact they knew I was there to buy, not make babble over the cracker barrel. The store has easy access and plenty of parking and I like that A LOT as I don't like spending my time wandering around looking for a place to park. If I could some this up for you this would be it: If you are looking to make a purchase in a calm, clean and accommodating environment and understand the value of just walking in and being served almost right away there is a premium attached to that and it does cost you a bit more. I probably spent about $200 more than I needed between the combined costs of both guns but like I said, parking, service and time are important to me. So I guess I would say that store is geared toward that type of client. Notice I said "Client" and not "Customer" and if you know the difference then you know what I mean. I know people that would drive 30 minutes just to save $50 and I am not that guy. read more
