Amazing comfort food for my soul! I really needed this reminder of how homemade food feeds the mind, body & soul. The seafood bique was delicious with lobster meat, shrimp & crab leg meat. I loved the fact that it wasn't thick and heavy. It was savory and flavorful. I had 2 big bowls and still craved more. The fish bites were so fresh and yummy, my 5-year old daughter devoured all of it in one seating. Next time I will double up on the fish bites and shrimp burger! That's how delicious they were. Gretel & Sons definitely deserves my Yummylicious Stamp of Approval! Two thumbs up!!!

Great hospitality and customer service. Beautiful to see a family work so well together and seem to enjoy what they do. It definitely shows in the quality of their food. Everything was immaculate 10/10 on everything we tried from mains, to sides, the bread, the desert, and fresh lemonade/limeade. Can't wait to go back

While waiting for my son to finish rock climbing, I stumbled upon this place, which is next door. It was Sunday, 20 minutes before they close so I wasn't expecting to get much. I did really wanted to try their famous, sweet potato bread- 1 of the sons offered to warm up a slice for me to try with honey butter on top- It was very good and I ended up getting the small loaf to bring home. He even gave me extra honey butter on the side. A few days later, I came back to try their sticky honey garlic wings, fried fish bites, mac n cheese, yams (mashed) and of course, more sweet potato bread. I placed my order over the phone and they were so nice & accommodating, all the food was ready as promised and everything was delicious especially the wings- tasted like double fried Korean wings but better & crisper, mac n cheese was super cheesy, fish bites were tasty and mashed yams were creamy & rich. Can't wait to come back for more- honey garlic wings :P Seriously, the best soul food you'll ever have!

The staff were friendly and attentive, and I had the chance to meet the owner, Bobby, who was very approachable and took the time to introduce himself. My interactions him and his team I would rate 5-stars. I value supporting Black-owned businesses, which made the visit even more meaningful. One piece of constructive feedback: I ordered fried whiting, and the fish I received did not appear to be whiting. The fish was okay overall, but I would have appreciated being informed if it was unavailable so I could have chosen something else. I'm currently avoiding red meat, chicken, and pork and eating fish only during this Lenten season, so I'm especially particular about my food orders. Because of that, not receiving what I requested was disappointing. For that reason alone, I'd rate the food 3 stars. Because the overall experience was pleasant, I will give a 4 star rating--as I do plan to return to explore other items on the menu. I might order the whiting again, but will confirm the order before leaving and will return to sample more of the menu, especially since my parents love barbecue.

The French toast was burnt, when asked how was my meal , I told the waitress my French toast was burnt, flat and tasteless. She told the cook, her response was " I didn't have the bread I normally use so, I used regular bread and I couldn't do anything about it (burnt). " ARE YOU KIDDING ME, you send out burnt flat Wonder Bread and I should be ok with that. Didn't ask if I wanted something different or adjust the bill or tell me you didn't have French toast. Any of that would have sufficed. I try to support but some make it really difficult. Oh, the shrimp and grits were good, that's what the two stars are for. DO BETTER PLEASE

The chicken looked good but I only ate 1/2 piece of the wing. (Still have me a horrible headache on the way home). Place is small but that's the least of their problems. Entire staff primarily speaks Spanish and aren't properly trained enough to even know how to take an order at your table. The poor girl tried hard to try to write down our simple order but the language barrier made it hard for her to type our order into the system. She returned to the table 5x to explain the various mistakes she made trying to put the order in. As I stood near the bar waiting to put my OWN drink order in, the young confused waitress ran over to tell me that the kitchen was out of collard greens. I smoked and substituted it for something else. 10 minutes later she arrives with my oversalted chicken and collard greens. Maybe wait a few years and try them, if they happen to stay open by some miracle.

We were chatting with Vanessa before realizing she would be singing later, and wow--she has a beautiful voice and sang some favorites like "Just the Two of Us." We ordered the fried whiting over a waffle, fried chicken with collard greens and fried okra, and shrimp and grits with a pecan coating. Portions were huge, so we took plenty home for our group of three adults and a toddler. Everything was slightly spicy, super crispy, and absolutely delicious. A small but much-appreciated touch: they brought our 2-year-old ice water with a lid without us even asking. The warm sweet potato cornbread muffins were amazing--we liked them so much we ordered some to take home. We'll definitely be back!

I enjoy my food when I actually taste the food and not the salt so I loved it. Others complained not salty/seasoned enough but it was perfect to me. Chicken had the right amount of crunch and tenderness. The salmon was meaty (not fatty) and seasoned just right. I had the bbq salmon and it was delicioso! The Mac n cheese was a good blend of cheeses and 'cheesy' pull was excellent. Potato salad just right. The service was top notch despite the place being sold out and very busy!! Definitely will return, hopefully on a less busy day and time. Parking could be an issue but we lucked up and got a spot a block away.

The food was flavorful and well-prepared, although some dishes leaned a bit salty for my taste. I ordered the sautéed shrimp and grits. The shrimp were delicious, but I wish the dish came with a larger portion of grits. The gravy was very generous and ended up making the dish a bit soupy, so a little more grits would have helped balance the dish. Other highlights from our table included the fried shrimp and waffles, yams, and mac and cheese, all of which were excellent. Another guest in my party ordered the BBQ salmon and thoroughly enjoyed it as well. The ambiance is casual, comfortable, and inviting, making it a great spot for either a local brunch or a relaxed dinner. The service was attentive and pleasant throughout our visit. We were even greeted by the owner upon arrival, and his friendliness and hospitality immediately made us feel welcome and set a positive tone for the entire experience. Overall, this is a solid neighborhood restaurant with good food, a welcoming atmosphere, and excellent customer service. I'd definitely return to try more items from the menu.
