Truth be told, I went to the Nippon Cha in Bayside many years ago and did not care for it. Fast forward a decade or so later we saw one had open on in Westbury. We figured maybe we should give it another shot. Very clean location. Love that all the doors were open so there was plenty of nice breeze on a beautiful weeknight. You can order at the self-serve kiosk or with a worker. After looking through their small menu we decided or order the strawberry matcha latte, yuzu chicken wings, takoyaki, and the cold tochuchamen. After I had ordered with the gentleman, I asked if their menu changes because I have seen ramen in their google reviews... he said no because they're relatively new still. It was only after my confusion did he said "maybe they have it on the kiosk menu." What the hell. How the heck is the menu different on the kiosk versus ordering with the workers at the front counter. I was pretty annoyed. I took a look at the kiosk afterwards and definitely saw a few more options. Still no ramen but I remember seeing beef noodle soup and even the unagi don that I was also interested in. But I already ordered more than enough at that point. - Strawberry matcha: Definitely the standout of all the things ordered. I saw many customers also ordering this. It's just strawberry jam with matcha latte. But it worked very well together. Make sure to stir it well. - Yuzu chicken wings: Small comes with 4 wings, large comes with 8 wings. The wings itself are pretty large. Subtle yuzu flavor. I thought this was interesting and pretty fun. I mean I don't see myself coming here to order it again but it was a good one and done. - Takoyaki: Typical. Tasty. - Tochuchamen: Not your typical ramen. We got it in cold since it is their signature. Definitely add the wasabi as it adds a lot to the flavoring profile (which it needs). It was decent. Nice for a hot day and seems healthy. I wouldn't order it again though. I do not see myself coming back. To be honest I would be surprised if they are still around in a couple of years. We took the family to Nippon Cha in Westbury for dinner the other night, and it did not disappoint. I wasn't sure how my kids would do, they love food from lots of different cuisines, but you never really know until you're sitting down. This place won them over completely. The atmosphere is beautiful, I loved the setup of the tables and chairs, and the staff were so sweet and attentive the whole time. We ordered a bunch of dishes to share as a family. The kids spotted the yuzu lemonade and had to try it (usually it's water-only for them, but we made an exception). We also got a strawberry matcha latte, a matcha tiramisu, and a yuzu cheesecake, they offered dessert first, and honestly, why not. The standout dish was eel served over rice with lettuce, avocado, and so many delicious toppings, my kids didn't even realize it was eel, they just thought it was delicious meat! We also tried a broth-based noodle soup topped with chicken, an egg, and a bunch of fresh vegetables, served cold (you can also get it hot). The noodles were a huge hit, and mixing in the wasabi took the flavor to another level. My youngest is by far the pickiest eater in our house when it comes to textures and sauces, and she tried everything, then asked in the car if we could come back for the exact same meal. Westbury is a bit of a drive for us, but it was absolutely worth it. Everything was flavorful, fresh, and beautifully presented. We'll definitely be back! 10/10 recommend. read more

The restaurant was small but nicely laid out. You need to order at the front kiosk or with the person in front. Then you grab a seat anywhere and wait for your number or name. I got the gyu-don and hojicha. The gyu-don comes with a miso soup. Everything came out fairly quickly. The soup was a typical miso nothing extraordinary. The gyu-don was pretty good with the right meat to rice ratio with the meat marinated well. There was a little too much sauce that made the rice a little watery. The drink was good. The hojicha here is quite good and their two sizes they offer for drinks are massive (the "small" is the equivalent of a medium/large in typical cafes, and the large is LARGE), hence the relatively high price point of $11-12 for some of these lattes. A hot hot hot summer day while NYC goes through a heat wave. While shopping in Long Island Garden City, I wanted something refreshing and on the non-greasy side. If you love Japanese food as much as me, Nippon Cha hits the spot for a quick service bite with plenty of tables to sit at. I went for the Salmon Ikura Don bowl with a Matcha Strawberry iced latte. Taste wise both were good and not as plain as most quick concepts would be. They did use fresh salmon for my bowl and took a while to make, ensuring the taste. The one thing was my bowl only came in one size, a small. Wished it was as big as the regular sized bowls because I loved this. Especially with whatever dressing was used for this, elevated my meal for sure. The strawberry matcha latte was fresh with a good brewed matcha and fresh strawberries mashed included, no powdery drinks aftertaste which is what I like. I'm a bit biased here because I love everything matcha. We came here for lunch one day. We ordered the Kaisen Don, Oyakodon, and Yakoyaki. The sashimi quality was decent, especially for a place that centered itself around the matcha and other items vs. being a sushi restaurant. The oyakodon was a little disappointing because the eggs were overcooked -- not very traditional Japanese where the eggs should be softer and the dish should have a bit more sashimi incorporated. Takoyaki was also good, and seemed to be made fresh (as opposed to some boba places that serve frozen takoyaki-- gasp!). My Matcha latte was solid, no complaints. Our only complaint is that the rice used for both of these dishes was hard and didn't seem like quality sushi rice (or whoever made it did not use the right ratio or store it properly). Overall, I thought, not bad for what feels like a Chinese - Japanese business. Despite some of those grievances, I'd probably come back because I love the concept and menu overall. read more

Nippon Cha has finally opened in Westbury! It's in the same plaza as Costco so it has plenty of parking around. It's currently in soft opening mode with only a few dishes on the menu compared to their Bayside location but there's still a good variety from matcha drinks to appetizers, ramen, sashimi bowls and cooked meats rice bowls. There's even desserts! We ordered a good variety to try and they were all solid. I enjoyed the sashimi bowls the most. The fish were fresh and the wasabi tastes real too. The salmon Ikura don was a small size but good if you just want a taste. All of their hot foods are also have great flavors. They're known for their matcha and although we didn't get any matcha drinks this time, we did try their matcha cheesecake and matcha soft serve. Both were intensely deep matcha that I really enjoyed so I'd love to try their matcha drinks in the future. The prices are a little high but the food and quality are good. It's pretty much a self serve restaurant as well so you can order from a kiosk and seat yourself anywhere you'd like (there's lots of seats inside). They'll call your order when it's ready and you also put the dishes away yourself. It's very convenient and staff is also friendly so they'll help if needed. read more

Nippon Cha in Westbury!!! What a treat. I have visited the Nippon Cha in Bayside many times, so I was excited to see that it was coming to Long Island. I visited for their soft opening. This location is a little different from the others with counter style ordering. This makes the dining experience a little more casual but it fits the on-the-go nature of the area (being in the same plaza as Costco). The store is spacious, well designed. There are two kiosks for ordering but you may also order at the counter. The menu is an abbreviated version of their full menu at other locations, that being said I didn't get to order my usual Nippon Cha choices but the staff told me that they plan to expand as they settle into the area. Looking forward to the expansion of the menu. Food - I ordered the gyudon and the sashimi 10 pc. The gyudon was a solid 5/5 for me, great flavor. Came with miso soup. The miso soup is flavorful, The sashimi platter was pretty standard but worth a try. I'd probably just get the ramen or donburis next time. The drinks are one of my favorite parts about Nippon Cha. The drink was actually quite large (almost the size of a dunkin large iced drink). Matcha quality was great. The lady at the register asked if I wanted less sugar. Being that I typically don't like overly sugared drinks, I asked for less sugar and soy milk. The drink was barely even sweetened so next time I think I will get regular sugar. I also got a Takoyaki to snack on and it came out hot and delicious. The only thing I would recommend is for them to add shades to the window. Probably the closest you can get to Japan on Long Island! Nippon Cha, is shockingly beautiful inside. Think Japanese inspired wood tables and shelves, open windows to let in some light. Ordering is done via kiosk at the front, but feel free to order at the counter if your credit card doesn't scan (ask me how I know). The menu itself includes fresh matcha, onigiri, and udon amongst others. I ended up ordering their Kuro Mitsu Hojicha, which is their most popular brown sugar hojicha drink and was pleasantly surprised. Very earthy and very nutty. A wonderful sip if you're not looking for an overly sweet drink. With that being said, I may have to opt for the hot version next time. With the iced variety, the brown sugar syrup was stuck to the bottom, so the sweetness did not blend with the hojicha at all and I was definitely drinking straight syrup at some points. But still, despite my luck, I will be back. The authenticity is something to experience! read more

I became violently ill after eating their chicken teriyaki bowl. Had very painful + bad stomach pain after eating the bowl and had major tummy issues. I kept throwing up afterwards that night. Unfortunately, both dishes were disappointing. The pork in the ramen was dry, and the broth lacked flavor. Ramen is usually hard to mess up, but this one just didn't have the rich taste we were expecting. The Chicken Teriyaki Bowl wasn't much better. The chicken was also dry and could have used more seasoning and flavor. We skipped the drinks because we prefer water and try to avoid sugary beverages, but we noticed that a lot of customers were ordering them. Hopefully the drinks are better than the food because the food definitely needs some improvement. It's nice and clean got a nice vibe. This pretty much a self service restaurant. The inside has a bright and airy feel, perfect for a nice lunch or grabbing a matcha. Their matcha is really nice and rich tasting, even just in the matcha latte form, and is a good size for the price. They have a lot of different drinks as well. Cons: -Sometimes takes a while to get your order, especially drinks.. -Not the full menu list that's in main store -No hand menu to look at.. which I guess is not a big deal.. though would like to see their individual store menus on their website at least. To be honest, I would give this location four stars, though since I like them I want to help them out with 5! It seems since it's still new, they are getting their bearings..
