We were surprised on a Saturday afternoon that the place had 3 couples only for lunch. The bar is the center of the restaurant and it is beautifully done. I found the menu to be limited and not that inspiring. We ordered the French onion soup and the catfish po-boy with fries. The flavor was good for the French onion soup while temperature was luke warm at best. This soup is usually super hot unless they melted the cheese with a torch. The po-boy sandwich had nice fluffy bread, a flavorless catfish filet but delicious fries. If the remoulade had not been present, it would of been tasteless. I had higher food expectations with the beautiful restaurant design but the food is no where close to matching the bar. A real disappointment. I know the chef is a long term resident and success in Jackson, but this was not anything to write home about.

We had three "Per la Travola" and "Antipasti" followed by a few Primi and Secondi. The crostini was a perfectly toasted slice of baguette with a pillow of sweet and nutty ricotta. Amazing! From the "Primi" selections, the Casarecce was perfection. The dish had just the right mixture of crunch to accentuate the delicate firmness of the pasta, and the boldness of the pesto. Other standout dishes were the grilled rabbit leg, and grilled cabbage. Both quite unique, and remarkable. However, the highlight of the night, in my humble opinion, was the Fusilli Gigante, and the Grilled Broccolini. The later came with a spicy Calabrian aioli, which was wonderful. In terms of drink, their specialty old-fashioned equivalent contained a nice local sage flourish that really added to each sip. And of course no proper dining experience would be complete without a dessert... the tiramisu and affogato left us all quite satisfied. Can't recommend enough. Perfect for a date night, or a night out with friends and family.

But the server convinced me to order the signature rack of lamb at The Blue Lion and I swear it was one of the best meals I have ever eaten in my entire life. I'm not exaggerating when I say I almost cried at the table. At one point I stopped talking entirely and just stared at the plate like I was having a spiritual experience. Was it expensive? Yes. Did they offer my wife a birthday dessert? They did not. Did I briefly consider licking the plate in public anyway? Also yes. None of it matters because that lamb transcended earthly cuisine. I will be 87 years old in a rocking chair still whispering about "that lamb in Jackson Hole." I don't know what dark culinary pact was made in that kitchen, but I support it fully. I swear...
