Came by Grill City inside Seafood City because I was craving halo halo and noticed they had some promos going on, which is always a bonus for me since money is tight these days. There was a bit of a wait since only one cashier was open after dinner time. My ice was already melting while I waited to pay, so I wish another register had opened, but it may have just been short staffing. The restroom is located around the corner if you need but it's not the cleanest. I wished the tables were wiped down more often, good thing I had wipes with me because I hate to dine on sticky tables. I've come here several times for halo halo, and the mix can be a hit or miss depending on the day. Sometimes the ice comes out hard or in rock-like chunks, which takes away from the experience. I stand about a foot taller than most in line just now. I went through line twice with no staff offering to help. The chef politely answered a question, asked if I'd been helped - I said, "no, still waiting"...no one helped me, third time aling the hot food, in line, and AGAIN no one helped me! I had a pretty disappointing experience at Grill City. The server/lady helping me was rude and made me feel like I was bothering her by ordering. When I asked about certain dishes, she just shrugged instead of answering. Several of the signs didn't match what they actually had available for example, the sign said they had lechon, but when I pointed to it, I was told they didn't. As for the food, it was just okay. The rice was mushy, and while the pancit was probably the best thing I got, it wasn't the most flavorful version I've had. Overall, not somewhere I'd rush back to. Super Bowl Sunday is potluck in Hawaii! I opted in for the cebulechon from Grill City. They are located inside Seafood City supermarket in Waipahu Shopping Center. Parking is not the best as the shopping center is always filled with lots of cars. Grill City offers a variety of BBQ Sticks, grilled stuffed squid, grilled stuffed fishes and other Filipino dishes such as adobo, sautéed hearts of bananas, pinakbet, palabok and many others. They also have lots of desserts to choose from such as halo halo, leche flan, and different mochis. Today, for the game, I picked up 5lbs of the cebulechon. It's )17.99 per pound. It's seasoned well and the skin is super crispy! Super yummm!!! Definitely recommend for anyone to try! I'm giving 4 stars because I paid so much for this 5lb and was given 3 tiny containers of lechon sauce & 2 tiny containers of soy sauce vinegar mix sauce. I asked for more and was told that there's none left. I paid $94.19 with tax. They should provide bigger containers, at least. Thank you for reading my review. Their pick up catering service is the worst. The receipt show pick up times from 2pm to 2:30. I got there at 2:15. Waited there till 2:45 to get everything on my order. I forgot one dish. They called my wife so I went back to pick it up. They told me that order was not for me. So i called my wife and they realized they messed up. But still took another 10-15 minutes to give my order. First time here and we ended up spending $60 on lunch for three. We got the chicken bbq "Buy Four Get One Free" without first asking how much each stick was ($21.99). Hubs also ordered a longanisa stick ($6). I think every plate comes with rice and 2 entree choices. Hubs got dinuguan and pork igado ($14.50). I also saw the Grilled value meals which consist of the grilled item plus classic entree, and got confused a little. So I got a grilled tilapia plate and pancit ($15.50). Thankfully the chicken bbq and longanisa were tasty and the picky kid enjoyed both. The tilapia was acceptable for him as well. The hubs wasn't too impressed by the dinuguan or igado. There are tables for dining in and little water cups for water that you dispense yourself from a cooler. They use plastic clamshell containers for the rice, tubs (like the ones used for poke) for the entrees, and utensils. I always get excited to eat at Grill City everytime we go to Seafood Supermarket Waipahu. But everytime we eat here, I get diarrhea. I observed that their pre cooked entree's doesn't meet the required/standard food temperature. Their food are mostly lukewarm. The food is expensive and they stopped serving complimentary water. I was surprised that they charged me $12.50 for a side order/small piece of grilled fish. The Pansit Bihon is mediocre. The beef in their Kare-Kare is frozen. They don't thaw it well before cooking or they cook the beef frozen. The Laing is a hit and miss. Sometimes it's not spicy at all or it's super spicy. They don't keep their food hot. We ate worth more than $60. for 2 servings and we are choking and won't give us a glass of water. I have been calling their number today, several times to report or file a complaint but they don't pick up. How sad! I will not eat here anymore nor recommend Grill City to my friends. read more

Super convenient cafeteria-style restaurant located inside the Filipino supermarket Seafood City. I'm addition, they have a grab-and-go refrigerated section with items like jelly pandan and flan, and a "street food" cart with pre-packages foods to go, like arroz caldo and various meats and desserts in a stick. They've also carved out a generous dining space, with widely spaced tables for four in front and on the side of the main buffet. Besides fountain drinks for purchase, they also provide a water cooler with cups for free water. My first-time selection was Laing, which is taro leaves cooked in coconut milk, to which they added shrimp. I got the smallest bowl, and they included one good-sized shrimp. I also was tempted by the grilled salmon, which turned out to be rather acidic and tart - in a good way, like sinigang. At first I thought the cost of the two dishes was rather pricey - around $20 - but realized I'd be getting three meals out of it, which makes it a good deal. While I prefer other Filipino restaurants in the area as my go-to, if you're already shopping in the store, it's not a bad place to grab lunch - portions can easily be shared by two small Asians lol. read more

Located inside of Seafood City in Waipahu is Grill City. Theres a really large selection of Filipino food here as well as "street food" lots of grilled and fried items on sticks. I'll admit I was a little overwhelmed because although being local I know some Filipino foods Wow theres a lot that i dont know about. They serve dinner plates as well as ala carte. The chicken and pork Bbq sticks were really yummy although I thought it was a little expensive for $4.50 each. I also sampled the Liempo which is like a grilled pork chop. Aldo a little pricey for $8.50 ala carte. We also picked up 1 pound of fresh fried chicken skins for 10$ perfect for grinding at baseball games. Those were winnah! Overall...I thought there was a good selection of Filipino foods and the seating area was large and clean. I'll probably be back to try other goodies next time. Only now am I writing this? I don't know how many times I've been here but I do know I've gotten more then the BBQ sticks. They offer traditional Filipino dishes. It's a fast food line setup with everything from pork to fish to veggies to some beef to some more pork dishes. And yes sometimes I see balut in the street food section. It's roughly the same set up as Panda Express or my most recent visit to San Francisco's FIL-AM (l know you read those reviews). Now most of the food is average and prices are reasonable. And there are bundle and daily specials. These will save you a couple of bucks. I inform you that most dishes are average but the sticks are good. They are sweet with the amount of sugar they use but watching them grill the chicken and/or pork sticks is satisfying to watch. Overall three stars. I remember when Seafood City just opened, we were huge fans of Grill City, we would make stops here for lunch after our grocery shopping. It has been years since we last stopped here at Grill City. It is either a hit or miss. During one of my visits I saw their sign for the MID-WEEK WOW specials and out of the 3 daily WOW, Tuesdays is my favorite. The WOW starts on Tuesday and ends on Thursdays. (The Mid Week Wow specials are pictured in Tips) Unable to drive out to Waipahu during the mid week, butdue to being off of work because of the Covid19 Pandemic, I made a special trip out, actually I also needed essentials grocery items and pastries from Valerios. I got everything all in one trip, so it was worth the drive. The Tuesday special consists of 4 pieces pork or chicken BBQ, 2 servings of Pancit Bihon and choice of 16oz dessert for $25.95, savings of up to $14.00. I also picked up a large order of garlic rice from another business to eat with this meal. Tuesday March 31, 2020 was also The Great American Takeout, which was perfect, I chose Grill City as my Great American take out. Grill City is famous for authentic Filipino grilled favorites like pork & chicken barbecue, grilled pork belly, stuffed squid, inihaw talapia, pompano and bangus. Also serves classic Filipino favorites like adobo, kare-kare, sinigang, bopiz, and menudo. I got half pork and chicken for the BBQ sticks, it is always hard to remove the meat off the sticks, I don't really know how to eat those sticks, biting off the sticks is not safe as the tips are sharp. Be careful, when eating the BBQ sticks, I try my best to take them off the sticks before eating them. The BBQ meat is more on the sweet side. The pancit bihon is not the best I've had, it was cooked with veggies,shrimp balls and tiny shrimps, never tried it this style before. I always grab the puko pandan dessert and that is my favorite out of the rest of the desserts. The best one is the buko pandan, I am actually addicted to this dessert. If you love buko pandan and are a fan of coconut, tapioca, and jelly - You must get try this dessert. It is super good, I just love how all the ingredients taste so great together. I would stop by just for this dessert. The service is not the greatest due to the language barrier. The cashier didn't quite understand my order and she also didn't even know about the daily Tuesday special and I had to show her the sign. Redemption City Okay so lets kick off my redemption tour this month with one of my earliest reviews. This place is located in Seafood City to the right and back when you enter. I came here last time and was disappointed with the rather unorganized and slow service, why do I still come and give it a chance? My mother loves the grilled fish here so I come and get some, time to time, for her. Walking up to the counter about 3pm, Im actually surprised that the stations are manned properly, a cooker grilling, a order plater, and a cashier. They all look prepared and aware and ready to take my order, hmm I wonder if management held a must needed training session! I order my usual, a side of 2 pieces of fried fish. So far so good. I get to the cashier and she seems to know how to handle the register, (another improvement). And thenn I notice something... I ask the cashier how much the side of the 2 grilled pieces of fish is and she says $8.00. The menu screen behind her says $8.99 for a breakfast plate (I know I said I came at 3pm, but this plate is a all day thing). The plate includes 2 scoops of Garlic Rice, 2 Eggs, tomato salad, AND 2 pieces of breakfast meat! I confirm with the cashier if the 2 pieces of fried fish (yes Filipinos eat fish for breakfast LUL) counts as a breakfast item (it was pictured as well yo) and she said yes. All those times... Why didnt none of them mention to me for 99 cents more I get alll that other stuff? I mean, doesnt that benefit BOTH me and them? And Im not just talking this visit, ALL the visits. I come here at least once or twice a month and order the same thing lol. Do I feel gypped? Kinda. I mean I still get what I paid for and all but all the other stuff that should come with it, you would think someone at some point would encourage me to pay a dollar more for a whole lot more food right? Its a win win value wise and I wouldnt be complaining anymore too! Anyways, on to the food, I did sample some of it because my mom doesnt like eggs. Had some of the garlic rice which was actually pretty GOOD! It was very fluffy and had the right amount of garlicy goodness in it to call it garlic fried rice! They offer a variety of Filipino dishes as well as an abundant of meats that are grilled up to perfection. You can find your usual popular filipino dishes like pinakbet, Kare Kare, diniguan and chicken tinola to name a few. They also offer breakfast foods where you can start you morning with rice, eggs and the famous sweet longanisa. This place can't be called grill city with out having some grilled meats. They offer pork and chicken bbq sticks, grilled chicken wings, grilled fish and also grilled squid. My go to dish when got to be the Kare Kare and the dinakdakan, which is typically grilled pork belly and mixed with a vinegary mayonnaise sauce with onions, ginger and chillies. It's also great to order a side of this to bring home and enjoy with a nice cold beer. They also have a side area where they offer filipino street foods which are basically a variety of meats on a stick. You can also find steamed corn and a variety of filipino desserts in the area. For all you fans out there or if you want to test your palate, they offer balut, which is a developed duck or chicken egg that has been cooked. Aside from the bbq sticks, the rest of the menu was not very appealing. I was actually wanted to give 1.5 star, but figured I'd round up. Lol. I have stopped by Grill City many times due to convenience. Each time I bought a plate, I was not completely happy with my purchase. Most of the time I'd play it safe and just order bbq sticks, but have also tried some of their breakfast items and hot foods (chicken inasal, bangus sisig, etc.) None of them were a "wow I wanna come back for this." The menu is a little confusing or maybe deceiving is the correct term? Some items displayed on the menu don't have pricing. I guess showing their true prices may deter potential customers. LOL. Another thing that may deter customers is the service or lack of service. I stopped in a few times (normally I'm in a rush), and not only was I not greeted, I was not even acknowledged at all. I had to wait a few minutes for someone to help me (while about 2 or 3 staff members were replenishing hot food items), and even then, they didn't apologize or anything. Very disappointing considering being a paying customer. I also feel that the staff cater to those who speak tagalog and aren't as nice to the others. I didn't feel like warm filipino spirit that most aunties/titas have. Located in the Waipahu Seafood City, Grill City is one of those you like it or you don't. I myself don't care too much but that does not dissuade the ton of people who love their stuff and eat there often. They offer many filipino favorites like bbq chicken and pork, pinakbet, lechon, kare kare to name a few. There are a ton of tables in the immediate vicinity getting one has not been an issue ever. They do offer tap water, if that doesn't bother you, on the side behind the cashier. Or get the bottled water. And, that's going to be my biggest complaint. Having one cashier to ring up an entire line of customers is redonkulous. I wasted 25min. just to pay for 1 chicken bbq stick. I wasn't in a rush to go anywhere but it can be more efficient than that. As you walk thru the buffet, on your right are the hot items. On your left are easy grab and go items. The taro Q and banana Q are good. You can grab items from your left and order items on your right. Now, all you have to do is wait to get to the cashier to make the payment. Have you ever eaten something so delicious that as you were eating it, you couldn't wait to review it so you're already crafting it in your head? Well, that's what this monggo soup did to me tonight. It made me think back, when was the last time I've had monggo this good? A restaurant? My in laws? My mom? No, this monggo topped everyone else's. One of the rare things you ever experience when eating out is a connection to the cook. That's usually reserved for high class restaurants where they take care in the preparation of your meal, something you would never expect from a grill city inside a seafood city but today, whoever you were who made this monggo, I tasted your love and soul in your soup. I love their breakfast specials and prices. You get a big scoop of rice with two choices of meat that include two eggs, for only $5.95?! AND free coffee! I'm in love! My boyfriend and his family always come here Saturday mornings for breakfast take out (they rather buy the Filipino breakfast than having the house smell like dried fish/etc). We usually get the fried Bangus with a side of Tuyok (Fried fish/salty fish). They're both good with sliced tomato and rice! Sometimes we'll get the sweet Longanisa (Filipino Sausage) too. The only downfall of it all is the consistency of poor customer service. Each visit is either similar or something new. It ruins the experience all the time! The communication is bad. I'd repeat myself about three times to have them fully understand what I want, if they don't understand, they assume and get me what they think they heard (which most of the time is wrong). Sometimes they don't know how to ring up the order (wrong order) or don't give the same amount of food. It's very upsetting. One star for cheap eats, another star for yummy Filipino food! The food can be hit or miss- the pork bbq, pakbet, and bopis were good, but the pork sisig was not. It was all fat and NO meat, so that was disappointing. My main complaint is how expensive it is, and they skimp on the food! For those prices, they should increase the serving portions. I gave them 3 stars because of their Halo Halo. It's the best deal around at $4.99 and it's not too sweet or too bland, just right. If it wasn't for that dessert, I'd give them a 2. A six pack of pork bbq sticks for almost $18 is absurd. Food is okay. I'm not a huge fan of Filipino food which explains the "okay" rating. Their workers need a lot of grooming on how to properly greet people and on service etiquette in general. A smile and a meaningful, "Hi there, what I can I get for you?" sets a positive experience from the start of the ordering process until you pay at the checkout. Instead you (pardon me... Expensive places for small amount. Our pork bbq taste like it metal. The chicken and longanisa was good.
