It will be a crime to call this food delicious. It is good and I go here some times when I want a different flavor than my usual kabob exploits. Sadly just like every other place in DC metro you won't find kabobs here either. Maybe Americans or visitors who come to DC either don't know what kabobs are or they hate them. That is the only reason I can think of for a disgrace to the authenticity of great cuisine. Meat selection is good here and the taste is worth going back to the place. Among the sea of places claiming to serve Afghani food this place actually has food that won't make you lose your appetite. It is worth a try, so please don't hesitate to stop by, but my quest for kabobs continues. I find them in New York but that is too long of a drive when you are hungry. Happy feasting. read more

The last few times I've gone, the place is pretty ratty looking, the owner is a bit of a full of himself and a little off-putting. This place has nothing but authentic Afghan Cuisine. Mikey had taken care of me. I ordered boneless chicken and lamb kabobs. The flavors they marinate their meat in is amazing. It tasted like my grandmas cooking. The rice is cooked to perfection and their white and green sauce is very authentic and the best part is the owners make you feel at home which is very comforting. The grilled kabob (lamb, beef, or chicken) is very tender and the portion is generous. Combo includes two flavors of rice, salad, bread, and a side (peas, spinach, or potato). If order as spicy, they will add some paprika from the kitchen. The gyro is also good, but there are bone bits, so I stay with kabob. The grilled veggie plate is also nice, but for the money, I rather get meat. Free hot tea. Though it will be nicer if Grill Kabob brews some ginger tea like other kabob places instead of the Lipton tea. I decided not to take away a star for the bone bits and Lipton tea due to the overall value of the meal. read more

My go-to spot for kabob. It is, in my opinion, the best in the area. The white sauce here is amazing. The brown rice is really good too. I always go for extra white sauce and ask for extra brown rice instead of a side. Hot tip: use the eat-in squeeze bottle for the white sauce before taking it to go. read more

I called in an order for pick up, I get to the store and no one is anywhere to be seen to greet me. Someone spots me from the kitchen but I continue to wait another 5 minutes. This man comes out and just stares at me...I let him know I placed an order for pick up and he seems confused so I remind him what I ordered and he says ok give me a few minutes. He runs back to the kitchen and comes back out and is ringing me up and as I'm repeating my order to make sure I get the correct things, he just motions for me to slide my card. 10 minutes go by and I finally get my food, I grab it and head to a table to make sure everything is correct since his confusion was worrisome. I open the bags and my main order was wrong, I go back up to him to let him know that it wasn't what I ordered and he just says "no I don't have that" ...so rude. He did in fact have what I wanted but wouldn't fix his mistake. Terrible terrible terrible customer service and so rude when they were the ones in the wrong!!! To make me wait an additional 15 minutes, on top of the initial 20 and only to get the wrong order and then not fix it or even offer a simple sorry. The food was ok but not even close to what some of these other kabob places have to offer. Save your money and frustration and head to any of the better, more friendly kabob spots in the area. read more

Awesome place to eat. Had the combo kabob platter: one skewer of lamb and one of chicken. Chose the hummus, chicken curry, and raisin rice for sides. Pretty good, but two kabobs were not enough for a dinner serving. Since I was there for the experience of it, I went back and got a second combo platter. This time ground beef and ground chicken kabobs with spinach, eggplant stew, and curry potatoes for the sides. It was all pretty good. Try this place and you will yelpping about it. read more

I'm Afghan. I eat kabobs everywhere. I've tasted basically every Kabob spot in the NoVa area and this place is my new favorite. I literally pass 2-3 kabob places on the way to Grill Kabob Express. Their classic chicken kabob for reasonably priced at $9.99, but they also have gyros, lamb, beef, and other kabobs. All are served on actual ceramic plates and you can use actual silverware. This is a BIG plus for me, as most other Kabob restuarants like this one only offer flimsy paper plates and plastic utensils; definitely not worthy of cutting through real chunks of kabob meat. Another awesome feature is that they give you the famous "white sauce" in a bottle, so you can use as little or as much as you like. No plastic containers here! YUM! Like clock work every month I go to the Indus boutique to get my brows threaded (they are the best!), and then i treat myself after to Kabob Express. I LOVE their lamb (it's never dry), and the yogurt drink they sell (I could live on it), and the dumplings, and welll..... Everything I've tried here has been pretty darned good! In my 2 months of staying in Fairfax, I can say this was by far one of the best places I ate at. I mainly came here for their extremely affordable lunch special, which started at 11am until 3pm every weekday and cost a measly 5.99 for 1 chicken or beef kabab strip, 2 types of rice, salad, chickpeas or potatoes and 2 sauces. What more can you ask for, for that price!?! As a student and being on a tight budget, I ate here almost everyday for a straight month and then alternated between this restaurant and another one for the next month i was here. Surprisingly, I didnt get fed up of the food and switching kabab's helped change it up. Overall, food was always fresh, clean and very filling. I think i was disappointed only about 2 times during that whole month of eating there, which is pretty darn good in my opinion. Ppl there are also very courteous. Best Afghan food and kabobs in the area by far. The bread is great, the meat is moist, tender and flavorful, the rice and chickpeas delicious. You get w choice of a few sides but the chickpeas are so good I never try anything else. If rice and sides aren't your thing, the kabob sandwiches are inexpensive and delicious. They give you both green and white sauces in big bottles to add at your leisure instead of charging extra for it or giving only a small dish. read more

My favorite Go-To spot for kabobs in Fairfax!! It's a fast-food/dine-in joint that also has beautiful decor of the Afghan culture. Your typical kabob menu consisting of kabobs (chicken/lamb/beef/kobeeda) Food is consistently on-point, chicken and Chicken Kobeeda are daaaayum good. They also have really good Bolani which is sort of like a really big sambosa filled with potato and/or leak. Food is obviously halal as well for those who opt to only eat food slaughtered according to Islamic practices. Overall, good food, ample space, service is good too but also do understand that kabobs do take longer than most of the "American" style foods we're used to. read more

I've definitely had better. Great selection of entrees including vegetarian! Nice decorating touches to show Afghanistan. I especially liked the amateur mural. We had both Chicken Tikka and Beef Tikka as well as hummus. They were out of Lamb at 7:30 on a Saturday night. The meats are Halal. The meats were "marinated" i.e. kinda like Campbell's Chicken Noodle Soup has chicken. Mmmm-not a lot. The meat dashed through the marinade, superficial at best. The presentation of the entrees was nice. An elongated plate with salad, 2 kinds of rices-spiced and plain and the entree meat. Both yogurt sauce and spicy green sauce handed to you with the meal. The hummus was good. Naan was adequate. You are given a choice of a side dish of chick peas in a warmed, spicy tomato sauce or potatoes in a tomato sauce. Not repeatable. I'll hit the Chili's next door before this and that's not saying a lot. read more

This is the only place where I have ever had koobideh that had alot of lamb taste. It was amazing. I also ordered chick peas but I didn't like the flavor on the chick peas. The other thing that was unappetizing was the kabob sauce. It was sticky and had a consistency of a "snot". Sorry I didnt even touch that. All the doghi bottles in this restaurant are expired. When I bought this to the attention instead of apologizing he took the entire incident casually. The person at the counter said he is not responsible and asked to call owner. When I called the owner, he said you must have bought the bottle from another shop and asked me to get out of the restaurant. My family recently had Grill Kabob Express cater for my graduation party that was over 60 people and let me tell you... the next time we need food to be catered we are definitely coming back to them. Everything was PERFECT. Anytime I eat out at kabob places I'm always picky about something but this was different. Nothing was wrong. Many of my friends who are Afghan and non-Afghan were RAVING about the chicken kabobs and basically every other dish we had! Even my family members asked where we catered from. I'm not a usual fan of shola but the dish from here was so good I can't stop eating it. We also had a tray of kobeda kabobs, and usually I am not a big fan of it because they usually tend to smell which makes me not even wanna eat it, but this was cooked very well. There wasn't a small that most restaurants have with their meat. The food was more than enough for the amount of people we had and it was very delicious. definitely recommend this place for all your catering needs or even if you just want something to grab in the area! read more

Love the food, however, I was pretty disappointed with the service when I just dined at this restaurant. I hadn't been here in years, so I couldn't remember exactly how things went, I walked in with my mom at about 8:40 pm, I was very courteous of the fact that they may be closing soon, so I asked the girl at the front desk if they were still open, and she said yes and that they were open until 9:30pm. After ordering, I asked if we were supposed to wait at the counter for our food and take it back to the table ourselves or if they brought it to us, she told us that she would bring it to us, so my mom and I sat down at a booth in the back. I then went to the restroom, and on my way back to the table I saw an order come up at the counter and asked if it was ours, she said it wasn't, and I explained to her that I was asking because if it was ours, I would have taken it back for her to save her a trip. A few minutes go by, and she brings us one of our meals and says "I have been calling out your number!" We were shocked. We asked a few times if we were supposed to take our food back and I even offered again after that to take it back myself, and she kept saying that she would bring it to us, and then when she brought it to us, she complained that she'd been calling us to come pick it up. That makes no sense, you dont offer to do something for a customer and then change your mind and complain about it. Then, towards the end of the night, at precisely 9:22 pm, they actually start turning out the lights on us and the tv to make it clear that they're closing and want us to leave, despite the fact that I checked prior to ordering my food if it was too late for them or not, and also despite that fact that they did not close until 9:30, so they started turning out the lights and rushing us to leave while we were trying to finish our food 8 minutes before they were even closed. The level of customer service was unsatisfactory. I love their food, but unfortunately will not return. read more

I used to love their rice and beef kubideh, it was pure dissapointment today. I kept chewing on a paper like consistency in the beef kubideh, not edible! I am done with this restaurant.
