    24. Chicken Shawarma

Ordered a gyro and chicken shawarma, with a side of sambosas at the counter. Guy who took my order was efficient but not chatty. All dishes were cooked to order, arrived hot and were bagged to go. When I got home we enjoyed the sambosas especially and were pleasantly surprised by the collection of spices blended in the potato pastry. The gyro and shawarma were fine, but we hoped for more and diverse vegetables in the sandwich although the meat and the rest of the sandwiches as presented were acceptable.

This is my go-to spot for Afghan food! Their dumplings (mantu and awshak) are the best I've ever had at a restaurant. They also cook their lamb very well! Their food tastes home made, and their service is great, making you feel right at home! Overall, I highly recommend trying Grill Kabob Express if you're craving authentic Afghan food!

It's a gem. They have the BEST kabobs! We tried lots of Kabob restaurants in the area. This place is our favorite! Food is automatically ( in our humble opinion) fresh and delicious! Portion, price, service and quality is very great! Their bread is super good! Can't say enough about their food!

@grillkabobexpressva Great and tasty food served up by a lovely family in Fairfax that's been operating for over 10 years! I don't know how I've never had Mantoo's before because they were phenomenal. Mantoo: STAR of the show, these dumplings were not only so pretty but SO tasty and probably my new obsession. Chicken tikka kabob: Cooked well, a classic and my usual go-to. Chicken & beef koobidah combo: Another classic but the seasoning on these were SO flavourful. The sides: bread, rice, chickpeas, chanti & white sauce were all sooooo good and paired perfectly with the entrées. Definitely worth a visit and I know I'll be going back next time I'm in that area! - insta @ SpicyAivy

My regular kabob joint. They have a bunch of delicious options and also fresh daily sides. I ordered the super deluxe meal $21.95, which has a skewer if each meat, lamb, chicken, steak and kobidah. It also comes with salad and side of choice of veges and we chose the chickpeas. The amount on Deluxe is definitely enough for 2-3 people. I also ordered kids chicken meal with fries for the little one. They are super friendly and provide quality Afghan and halal kabobs.

I ordered 4 platters for an event on a Sunday. The restaurant doesn't officially cater on Sundays so they combined the platters into a family style format. The lamb and chicken were excellent. The beef kubideh was a bit dry, which is unfortunate because it is usually my favorite. The Afghan bread was half delicious and half tough and overly chewy. This shop has really well done green and white sauces (which can be hard to find).

I've done delivery several times here and came in once in person for carry out. You really like the kubideh chicken and beef (minced meat with spices). The rice is good and so is the flatbread. We usually have leftovers. the place itself is a little bit of a hole in the wall. There are a few people eating in and it's more of a order at the front and self-serve.

This is the best kabob place I've tried, one of my favorite lunch spots. The chicken kabob is great, as is the salmon kabob.

Great kabobs. White sauce is excellent. Owner is friendly. Chicken breast kabob is my favorite, and then the lamb. Sides, spinach is superb.

Anyway, about this beef soup: it had the most amazing broth, even better than pho. The beef pieces were excellent and the portion size was good too. The place was filling up and the ambiance reminds me of a traditional bustling noodle house - perfect for the cold snap we were experiencing at the time. We got hot and sour noodle soup, sichuan beef noodle soup, and an order of their pork soup dumplings. Portions are generous and prices are fair, it's easy to become a regular here if you live nearby. The hot and sour noodle soup is as advertised - just enough spice to complement the sour, but not overwhelm to make it feel like mala. It's served, as expected, with glass noodles, some bak choi, and some pork slices. Nothing spectacular but par for the course. The sichuan beef noodle foon soup was slight notch better. The broth gives really warm vibe and you can tell it's been brothing for a long time. Again just the right amount of spicy to make you keep slurping for more. The noodles were average, chewy, but not bouncy. Also comes with a healthy amount beef slices and bak choi. Again - a great noodle soup bowl but nothing jaw dropping. Soup dumplings were fantastic, however. The pork definitely has its own marinade and the soup is flavorful. The dumpling skin is well constructed and complemented well with the noodle soups - especially in cold weather. tldr; solid noodle soup spot, they seem to be consistent and really hits the mark when you're in a for your noodle fix. Soup dumplings are probably a must get side dish with whatever your main is

I'm not a big fan of tofu but this was delicious. The fish was so soft and the sauce really worked well. Ganghood chicken: our favorite thing on the menu, when it comes to fried chicken I'm a harsh critic. With that being said this was REALLY good fried chicken. Combination Fried rice: it had a mix of shrimp, chicken, beef and egg. It was simple yet flavorful. Shrimp dumplings: A bit bland, would not order again.

Our group of five sampled a great variety from the menu, including the Hot & Numbing Tofu Skin, Crab Roe Soup Dumplings, Cucumber Salad, Lettuce Wraps, Cumin Fish, Stir-Fried Beef Tenderloin, Crispy Pork Ribs with Scallion Crisps and Mixed Grain & Purple Rice, Stir-Fried Beef with Chilies, and Kung Pao Chicken with white rice. The standout for me was the cumin fish. It was fried perfectly--crispy without being greasy--and the cumin added great flavor without overpowering the dish. The crispy pork ribs lived up to their name and had a nice kick of spice. The cucumber salad packed a serious garlic punch, which I really enjoyed. The Hot & Numbing Tofu Skin was something completely different from what I expected. It's sliced into long ribbons that resemble noodles or pasta. The flavor was excellent, although the texture took some getting used to. The only dish that fell a little short was the stir-fried beef tenderloin, which could have used a bit more seasoning. Everything else was delicious. The portions are enormous. At first the prices seemed a little high, but once the food arrived it made perfect sense. Every entrée was easily enough for two meals. One thing to keep in mind is that rice is ordered separately and isn't included with the entrées. Service was excellent throughout our meal. We arrived for lunch and didn't realize they close between lunch and dinner (lunch is served from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.). We ended up staying until about 2:45, and the staff never made us feel rushed even though they had technically closed. They greeted us promptly, took our drink orders, and gave us plenty of time to look over the menu without hovering. The restaurant is tucked away on the ground floor of an office building, so it's easy to drive right past if you aren't looking for it. Parking was plentiful, and the oversized booths comfortably fit all five of us without feeling cramped. If you're dining with a group and want to sample a variety of authentic dishes, Mama Chang is definitely worth the visit.
