I've had better. They don't even give you 2 sides with your entree. The spinach is inedible and chick peas leave a lot to be desired in terms of spice. The chicken and beef kubideh aren't very flavorful either. Very expensive for the quality of the food. I would recommend trying out Flame Kabob in Chantilly or Sheesh if you like kabobs. read more

I was craving gyro and took to yelp to find a place close by me that was serving some. I'm really glad that I came to Kabob Express! I got the gyro sandwich ($6.99) and was on my way. It was everything I wanted! I'm definitely going to be coming here more often to satisfy my gyro cravings. Good price for the quantity you get. If you're not a big fan of onions I would definitely ask for no/ less onions because the sandwich has a lot of them. Overall, I'm content. :) read more

Hands down, this is our favorite Afghan restaurant for a complete, filling, and healthy meal. Their menu choices are broad and portions are very generous. The owner and his employees always accommodate our special order requests with no fuss, and they are happy to do so each time. I decided with my family to order food from outside for the first time since the Pandemic stared. I have ordered the food there and when I went inside to pickup the food, I saw 3 people that are preparing food and without wearing any mask or any gloves. And I saw the owner he was sitting on the front cashing out people, but he was wearing mask and gloves. Therefore, I ask why those people are not wearing mask or glove, his response was they have to take them off time to time. Then I asked him why all of them at the same time have to take off and preparing food without wearing it. He responded saying they are not required to wear it. Very Shame to hear it. People out I highly encourage think twice before ordering the foo from there anymore. It's your safety and health concern especially in this situation. Poor experience with orders. I would have given a '0' star. This is the second time they messed up our orders. Very much disappointed!!! This time they had me wait 30 minutes to tell me that the 'bone in chicken kabob' (that I had ordered) was not available. The last time they had us waiting for40 minutes and apparently forgot about the order. I do not recommend this place. We are not coming here anymore. read more

The food is good but their customer service is horrible. They hate when you order from uber eats or grubhub, I have 3 times had my order delivered with wrong items. When I call them, they blame it on Uber even though the order placed was correct. I have never had issues with any other restaurant but always with them when using uber. read more

The highlight here is the seasoning of the meat, which is rich and delicious. Get your buds together and get the 4-person combo, which is a deal and lets you try their best stuff, most of which is quite good (I liked the lamb the least). The sides are not great, though, and not surprisingly this place is a vegetarian's nightmare. It's clear they do what they do well but everything else is somewhat weak. One rare place where the food in front of you actually looks like the photo of the dish on the menu! I don't know what authentic anything really is, so I will stray from making any comment on that. The kabobs are pretty darn good! We had the beef and chicken kabob combo. It came with two types of very delicious rice, salad, pita bread and a side. I picked the chickpeas as a side. Two of us shared one dish, so the portions are on the large side. The staff isn't overly friendly, but not rude either. The food is good enough to make up for the lack of smiles. Tried it for the first time today and was very satisfied! I got the ground chicken and beef combo and you can choose one side from spinach, chickpeas, or potato and I got the potatoes and everything was delicious. The portion was pretty big and it comes with rice and a small salad. The yogurt sauce is unlimited (they give you a big bottle) and they also have a grinded hot pepper type of sauce which is also unlimited! The yogurt sauce was very tasty compared to other kabob places I have tried! The place is clean and overall i had a great experience :) will come back again for sure :) read more

Nice, clean spot for lunch. Strip mall location. Plastic or metal utensils available, prices moderate (my total bill with drink was $13.00) They have a picture menu for the uninitiated. I ordered the fish kabob, which was made with chunks of moist salmon, cooked perfectly - not dry at all, and very flavorful. Good naan - which made a nice receptacle for the chunks of fish. The chickpeas were only so-so; cooked in a sauce that was kind of bland. The rice and salad were both standard kabob house fare, but the white yogurt sauce and the green chutney (in squeeze bottles you could take to your table) were both very good. The yogurt sauce was nice and thick, and the chutney, while of thin consistency, was flavorful with a tangy heat. The sauces tied together the fish and rice flavors beautifully. I didn't try any desserts, but I do plan on returning for more kabob goodness. read more

Very good food. The outside and inside decor makes this place look very unimpressive, but the food is very good. We got the chicken and lamb kabobs. The portions were huge. They came with rice, bread, chickpeas or spinach, and yogurt dipping sauce for the bread. The yogurt sauce was a little spicy as well, which was a nice touch. This place is truly amazing and worth going to even if it's out of your way. The food looks exactly like it does on the menu and bursts with flavor. I've made this place a regular haunt for bringing coworkers on a lunch break or my days off when I just can't get by without some Chicken Tikka. The baklava is made fresh and tastes amazing. I've had kabob at several other places around Fairfax, Annandale, Alexandria and Gainesville and there is no other place worth visiting in the area. This is a guaranteed divine meal. This is by far my favorite kabob restaurant in our area. The staff is always attentive and accommodating when it comes to substitutions or requests for extras. I always order the #12 which is a Chicken Kabob Sandwich. It comes with lettuce, tomato, onion and tzatziki and hot sauce on the side. Their chicken is all white meat and very flavorful. The pita is always hot and soft, it never gets hard even if you don't eat it right away. I'm pretty much obsessed with their tzatziki sauce. I like it so much that I order three of them on the side. This place doesn't look like much from the outside and the inside is not especially nice. But the food! The food Is excellent, and cheap. For around $7, you get a platter with two entrees, some basmati rice and one of the best naan I ever had (garlic naan). Some reviewers recommend trying the butter chicken. That's an excellent suggestion. The tandoori chicken was really good too. Chicken curry was plenty decent. I had a bhang lassi that was better than other places. The only thing that left me cold was the dessert of the day, which was apparently some kind of fried dough ball in syrup. Not my kind of stuff.. So there it is, 5 stars for the food. Minus one star for the environment: it does look like a back alley in Bombay and the food was served on plastic plates. Also the cashier was not exactly mean, but he wasn't nice either. Best kabob place in town, in my opinion. Since moving to Fairfax 6 months ago, I've eaten there more times than one person should. I always order the same thing which is either the Fish Kabob or Salmon Kabob, both are always amazing. My friends have ordered the Chicken Tikka and I think they've always been happy. Their chick peas are soo good, as well as their green sauce. The portions are huge, even the lunch specials. I've never once had an issue. The restaurant's interior is nice, I love the mural on the wall. Service is quick and the employees are kind. For those complaining about the atmosphere and layout of the restaurant- come on. If you want to continue paying a reasonable price for a great meal, then don't expect a marble floor or granite tables. Their layout is standard for most Afghan and Middle Eastern restaurants (or at least the ones I've been to) and it has charm to it. I think they care more about the quality and taste of their food than the table layout, there is really nothing to complain about with the interior. When I have sat and ate there, I was so into the food I couldn't have cared less about the ambiance, which I feel is how it should be. read more

Rice was spot on! (It's amazing how many people can screw up rice!) Not this place though! Lamb and chicken cooked PERFECTLY, and trust me, I'm a bit of a "food snob" so that is saying a lot! The bread that came with it was warm,chewy and soft, and the cucumber dipping sauce - let me tell you, I should have ordered an extra one because it went fast! Hands down, the best kabobs we've ever had. We have dined in many middle eastern restaurants in NOVA, and Grill Kabob Express wins our 5 stars for all around great food and experience. In the past 6 months since we discovered this place, we have tried nearly all of their wonderful dishes...moist tender white chicken, juicy tender lamb, fresh salmon, tender beef, flavorful ground chicken and beef, and all of their fresh and bountiful side dishes are fantastic. Their fresh, high quality, very flavorful, and reasonably priced food are the main reasons why we enjoy this place, but the owner and staff taking pride in their products and services is why we dine there at least twice a week. One more thing...try cooking their dishes at home...just not worth the time, effort, and cost when we can relax and enjoy a wonderful home-cooked meal at Grill Kabob Express without the fuss and dirty dishes. Another bonus is they serve all their dishes on real dishes and silverware. Oh, I cannot end this shout out without raving about their yogurt sauce and bread to die for! 5 stars! P.S. Nice food and a great selection. You definitely get a nice helping as well with meat or fish and two helpings of different rice, nice Naan bread and a small salad. They have free tea as well. I would like to give 3 stars because they seem to have turnover and sometimes you may get a cashier that seems not very helpful but in the end it is a good place to go.
