Lackluster experience .. Was hoping for better, more flavorful food. I wanted the ambiance / vibe to match my dining experience and it just didn't. The food is better elsewhere, like Good Fellas, which isn't much farther away. The drink k had WAS strong so that was a plus but u go to eat FOOD and the food was just disappointing. My soul roll was mainly rife and I didn't like the dip it came with. Service was standard, I wasn't left completely alone but also don't consider myself being waited on. May come back with a group for drinks and conversation but not if I'm hungry. For starters why were we charged 18 percent gratuity ill regardless of service or quality of the food. What if we wanted to tip more or less? Customers choice! It was couples night (2 couples) and we thought we give Grille 55 a try. The cat fish and perch was good. The greens were salty and sweet potatoes were very sweet. We ordered drinks from the specialty menu. Our issue was no prices for the drinks were listed in the drink menu and the waitress did not offer any prices. When the drinks were served, the ice was melted, therefore water down the drinks. No garish either. When we received the bills for both checks the establishment charged us $18 and $20 for each drink for med level alcohol. Not our best out! read more

Also had the Chicken Alfredo and it was nice and super creamy and flavorhowever I think it was missing some broccoli in it. The food and atmosphere of Grill 55 are amazing. First off, the music. They played the full long-version of Tony Toni Tone Anniversary. But also a nice mix of older and new music. Lauryn Hill Ex-Factor. Jagged Edge, New Edition, Tank, Chris Brown. Ne-Yo and more. I wanted to sing every song. And the food. I got Shrimp Alfredo with extra sauce, and the shrimp were bigger than my thumb! And the bowl was HUGE. Enough for 2 days. My date had catfish, Mac & cheese with garlic mashed potatoes. All delicious. All of this is no cap, no lies. The service was great. The atmosphere was so amazing that my date and I stayed there talking and vibing for nearly 4 hours. If you're in the area of the Mayfield location, check it out. The only issue is the parking. Space is limited, but I parked in Giant Eagle across the street, no problem. Can't wait to go back! They charged me $17 for10 wings that were so small and they barely had meat on them, and they were fried too hard, and didn't have a stitch of seasoning on them. everything was à la carte, and the total was $29, which is a total rip off, and the cashier tried to charge me $30 when I got there. The mashed potatoes have so much salt in them, I can't even eat them. I am so disappointed because I normally cook at home, but I wanted to treat myself today. I came home to visit and had dinner at the downtown location. The location was beautiful and clean. Our server Dion was nice and professional. Now let's get to the food. For dinner, I had the lobster bites with Mac n cheese & yams. I had this paired with a lemon drop martini. Everything was delicious. My brother had the lamb chops. Super good. We were so impressed with the flavor and texture of the food. Before leaving, I went back so my husband could try the food. We went to the Mayfield location. This was a call in order. The person on the phone had exceptional customer service. He called us back to let us know that lobster bites were sold out but recommended other items. We decided to get the fried shrimp and lamb chops with multiple sides. Again everything was delicious. I am so impressed with this establishment. Depending on how hungry you are it can work as a light meal, not just an appetizer. Fish comes as 2 fillets. Cooked nicely. Textured is perfect for what is considered a single fry. I wish I would of looked into the reviews more before going here. I really wanted to like this place and give them the benefit of the doubt. You can tell they are trying as the food cost went up from the menu I saw on here. They are trying to accomplish a cool vibe high end restaurant but the quality of the food & service really takes away from the experience. The Alfredo was at least good enough for me to eat but I can't say the same about my partners meal. I could tell by looking at it the chicken was super dry and over cooked. We hate to waste food but he couldn't eat it. I don't blame him. I tried the rice & it wasn't good at all. You can tell a lot of people there order meat & sides which seems like the way to go but we didn't know that. I saw the Alfredo online & I'm glad I was able to enjoy that. My fiancé order a side of Mac & I ordered a side salad that never came til we got the check. We told them to just take it off & they kindly gave both to us anyways free of charge but once we got home we wished they would of just kept it. The Mac & cheese doesn't reheat well to say the least. It tasted alright but it was greasy. The house salad had wrinkled tomatoes on it with a mound of cheese. It's safe to say we won't be back but I wish them the best! It all comes down to having a staff that cares & a manager that carries the place well. It doesn't seem like either of those exist there. I understand it's hard to find good hard working people. I wouldn't say they aren't hard working but more so over worked & under appreciated. We didn't even have silverware & had to wait while our food was at the table. I highly recommend a restaurant staff meeting to get their people back to being motivated servers/staff & refocus on the vibe of the place. There's too many couches where there should be tables. Although the velvet couches looks cool & cozy it takes away from tables and places to have a proper spot to eat for the quality of food they are trying to serve. My granddaughter chose Grill 55 to celebrate my birthday because of the lamb chops. Included were her two brothers and between us we ordered the lamb chops, greens, mac & cheese, catfish, fries, salmon, mashed potatoes, fried tomatoes and calamari. The food was so good I asked to meet the chefs and was given complimentary candied yams. The food was absolutely delicious. The staff was extra friendly and attentive......the service was great! Even though it's not a large space, the lighting and the combination of sofa seating along with booths and other seating arrangements gives off a cozy and relaxing vibe. First note- the parking lot was very small so we had to park at the grocery store across the street. Not a big deal because the walk was very short. We didn't have a wait and we were seated right away. Loved the decor, very modern. There were several TVs so we were able to watch the NFL games and the music set a nice ambiance. They menu had a nice variety of selections. It was hard to order because everything looked good. I got the catfish dinner and my husband had the pasta. I didn't order a drink but my husband enjoyed his cocktail. When our food arrived we were surprised by the portions! We had plenty leftovers to enjoy later. Atmosphere of this black owned business was great. Food all the flavors were there not bland thank goodness. The decor nice and inviting, table servers attentive and polite. My only criticisms were the bartender who was on her phone so she did not acknowledge us for at least 10 mins or more. She seemed to favor the male guests and chatted with them more often. The wait time was longer than expected almost an hour they were short staff unbeknownst to me I would have tried them another time.. this review is for the Grill 55 downtown Cleveland. Let's start off by saying to eat in the private dining area it's a $200.00 deposit which is fine. I've been man places very high scales places that I had to pay a deposit. However here the catch 22 for Grill 55 downtown they do not put you money towards anything nor do they give it back. It's was a table of 9. && due to being so money hungry they kept the deposit which doesn't make it a deposit. So after paying $200 to sit down. The door to the room was filthy even after watching a guy "clean it". After paying $200 to sit down it took about 10 minutes to get me a water. I had to keep asking the waiter for napkins which at the point one of my guest got up and went to the counter to get herself. I had to ask for utensils which I didn't get until after my food came out. The chef is wonderful and definitely knows what she doing. Also if you order over the phone they still charges you 18% of gratuities to your bill. Why? I'm not sure they must be scraping for Pennies. I'm not a complainer where I would make a review but this needs to be done I feel for $200 just to sit on top of paying for my meal I did not meet the standard of quality experience now if I would've set at the bar maybe. Never again! I ordered the ribeye with a temperature of medium. It came out somewhere between medium well to well done. The end of the steak was very grey and well done, while near the bone the steak had had trace amounts of pale pink. I advised the waitress that it was overdone and she took it back to the kitchen. A few minutes later the cook as well as the manager? came out of the kitchen with the same plate and tried to explain to me that I was wrong and that the steak actually was medium. I explained that a medium steak means that it is bright pink throughout, not just near the bone. They asked me to cut into the steak that I'd already cut twice. I obliged them and again, the place I cut was medium well, closer to well. The cook told me that if it was any less done, it would be rare. I further explained that rare means that the steak would be red and that this is not what I asked for either. I even ended up googling a picture of a medium steak to show them. The manager told me that the steak I had was just "how they make medium steaks" there and that I should just taste it. I did and for the record the flavor was good, but it simply wasn't what I'd asked for. I have worked at two restaurants in my life (one was a steakhouse) and I have eaten in countless restaurants, never in my life have I ever seen the cook and the manager come out to the table to argue with a customer about a steak temp. While they clearly weren't happy with me, they weren't nasty or mean, but it is easily the most unprofessional thing I'd ever encountered in a restaurant and it ruined the experience. For the record, they did take the meal off of the bill and I still tipped the waitress because her service was fine, but I definitely would not recommend this place. read more
