MY FAVORITE PIZZA PLACE! There is such a consistency with this company, no matter if we dine-in or take-out. There is always a wait so just be prepared for that. This location lends it's hand to some great walking/shopping to help you through that though. The service has always been great and the pizza has the best pepperonis and char on the bottom. All of the salads have been good. The sangria, wine, and beer selections have yet to disappoint. Great little atmosphere. The patio is really nice, just catch it before an unbearably hot sunset. read more

Stopped by about 3:45 to order a pizza to go. Was told that the oven is down from 4-5pm. We went ahead and ordered a pizza and was told it would be ready by 5. Came back at 5 and was told that the pizza would be the first out. We waited for 45 more minutes and watched pizza after pizza being served to tables and orders that had been called in after ours. When we asked the manager to check on our pizza he disappeared and never returned. Everyone seemed very unapologetic. On the upside, the pizza was good, but certainly not worth a two hour wait. I wish I could give more stars because we get pizza from them all the time. But we ordered a gluten free pizza and it was the worse thing I ate ever! The crust was totally inedible and the pepperoni was undercooked! All we could do is eat the toppings off and they literally just slid off the crust! We wasted over $30 for nothing! Not what is used to be. Being poorly managed. Only friendly person in the restaurant was the waitress. Best advice, get it to go.

I have came to this location for some time and they are always very consistent with their food and service. We decided to sit on their patio and boy am I glad we did. The park was beautiful with lush green grass and families playing amongst each other. Next door there is a huge club house built in the trees and it's lit up at night which makes this patio location a hit. We got our favorite pizza which is a make your own with all our favorite toppings. The server was nice especially having to be patient with my unorganized family I went with. Love this location, will definitely be back soon. read more

You won't feel bad to eat pizza! The pizza is made with a thin dough and without to much cheese and they use fresh vegetable and spices that make tastes amazing! The price is reasonable. for a personal pizza for two or three people you will pay $10. I always order a small caesar salad (big portion for two!) And its great. Grimaldi's chemically alters their agua to match the mineral content of the municipal water system of New York AND imports coal from Pennsylvania in an effort to replicate genuine NY style pizza. That shit is unprecedented. However they miss the mark on other key ingredients that would significantly enhance a pie. For example, the chicken is very similar to the bags of pre-cooked at Wal-Mart in the refrigerated section. The meatballs were somewhat flavorful, but the sauce was generic. We split a Caprese Salad consisting of mozzarella, tomatoes and basil. The menu stated it was to be drizzled in olive oil. 'Twas not. Adding insult to lack of oil, the mozzarella did not taste particularly fresh. Oh, and the service was poor. I do grant an allowance for it being Mother's Day. I used to wait tables and tend bar and wow, that holiday is hellish. But that doesn't excuse the practice of bringing each salad and pizza out individually. This created questions of etiquette such as "dude, do I dive into this warm pizza sitting in front of me, or wait on my friends to get their order?" Not cool. Oh, and we requested a side of fresh basil. Over halfway through our meal, our server returned to advise that would be an additional $2.50. We passed. I had gone for a lengthy run that morning and was parched. Our server returned infrequently with a pitcher just full enough to quench the thirst of one person at our table each round. One of our friends made the egregious error of allowing the server to abscond with her glass for a refill. I joked that I was at least able to enjoy the luxury of sucking on my ice until she returned with a nearly empty pitcher. Oh, and prices were outrageous. $7 for dry mozzarella. $5 for one side of a small pizza to be lightly sprinkled with the Wal-Mart procured chicken. $7 for the Caesar salad that I ordered and did not get. I was really hoping for this to have been an amazing meal. I'm in the processing of getting in shape for summer, and my burgeoning abs will suffer for pizza transgressions. The pizza is amazing. And expensive. For pizza, anyway. 2 pizzas, 2 salads & no alcohol came to $84 something, before tip. Maybe that's how pizza rolls in CA/NY. The food is very similar to the one back in Ny. I have been a few times. Once my wife did get a stomach bug but not 100% that was from the food. The large issue is that it looks like they have taken a stand against basic states rights. I just won't go to a place where you are not allowed to protect yourself or your family. Oh Grimaldi's, I really wanted to like you. I heard such great things about you from others. I wanted us to be a match! But alas, in fact, I thought your pizza was just one step up from frozen. Your service was terrible (scowling waitress), and your pizza, tasteless. Yes, you had a thin crust, which I normally like, but this thin crust was more bready, like frozen crust. The sauce tasted like tomato paste. The cheese, like nothing. The caprese salad I had before your tasteless pizza was the exact same one I make at home with fresh mozarella from Sam's. So why was it $7? Why was our crappy lunch for 2 people almost $35 as well? Perhaps it was my fault for wanting to compare you to TruFire or Fireside Pies? You are not either. But your location is in such a nice elegant one that I expected gourmet. My bad! Loved the view! You are just as good (bad) as Papa Murphy's, but with a TruFire price tag. Can't believe we have not eaten here before now. This place is a lot bigger than it looks from the street. They have a very nice patio overlooking the creek. We were a party of 4 adults and we ate on the patio. Our service was very good, as was the pizza. I am interested in building my own pizza oven, so I asked the folks about their coal fired oven. They were so happy to tell me all about it. Very interesting! Also, a really nice manager and crew. We will certainly be back! read more

Funny, I don't recall asking for hair in my calzone?! A few weeks ago my wife and I went here for a date night. There was a band scheduled on the green so the whole shopping area was busy. We took a stroll around the square and decided on Grimaldi's. Awesome that they put you on the waiting list but instead of giving you a puck that requires you stay within 50' or so of the place, they take your mobile and call when a table is ready. Outstanding. Shopping was next. They said it would take about an hour, took about 40 minutes. They called. We returned. Things were looking good. By the time we ordered the band had started and we were on the patio so it made it a bit hard to communicate with the waiter. But all seemed to be understood, including my order for a salad, swapping one cheese for another. That included a specific conversation as to if there would be a charge. No there would not, per the waiter. Food came out - all was delicious until we got to the hair, perhaps only fuzz, in the calzone. In, not on. Pointed it out to the waiter who was disinterested at best. He did apologize so obviously understood the complaint. I asked for a manager - they never came out. Check arrived and there was an upcharge for swapping cheese on the salad. I reminded the waiter of our earlier conversation, to which he said, "we don't allow substitutions". Well, obviously you do for a fee. He said he'd need his manager to take it off and paused as if expecting me to say, "oh gosh, that sounds like effort on your part. Let me just pay for what you screwed up". Since those words never came he went away, eventually returning with a corrected bill. This is a place that has comment cards in the check folio so I completed one and complained about the hairy calzone. I jotted my email and mobile on the card. You know how long it took the manager to call? I'll let you know - still counting the days (weeks). If you like a little tickle with your meal, go to Grimaldi's and ask for the calzone in need of a shave. read more

Watter's Creek is a fab area. we live 5 mins away and have tried every restaurant. Grimaldi's has delish Pizza albeit a bit $$$ and IF one like's thin crust. Good ingredients as well, a wee bit crowded, tho' nice ambiance. Here's my lil' issue. Went with my fam. SPECIFICALLY told server - 6 year old would like the SMALLEST pizza with just cheese. We ordered a Large w/toppings. (After a long wait..and hungry...) 2 LARGE pizza's came, one just cheese, one the adults. ??? Manager came by later, I didn't complain but asked him the logic in a large cheese pizza for a 6 yr old. He said... oh...sorry......and looked at me, as if awaiting for me to suggest a remedy? Not one to complain in restaurants for fear of Ryan Reynolds staff in Waiting, (Go watch it) and that was it. lol. Some may not see my issue... but I wondered what good customer service is and how a proper intelligent staff would have reacted. At the very least charge me for a small. Still tipped 20%+. The place is small so there is always a long wait about 45 minutes or so. I really never mind because there is plenty of shopping nearby to pass the time. The wood fired pizza is good, there is no question about that. The prices are steep unless you are sharing a pizza with a group. Ordered a half white/half Brooklyn pizza over the phone on 12/3, came there 30 mins later and the bartender told me there was a miscommunication between her and the girl working the entry. They didn't put in the order at all and are going to work on it now. Ok, I get it. It gets worse. - had to wait another 30 mins for the pizza to be made - ordered a wine: normally, if the servers forget to put in an order, they usually comp this or pour generously. Didn't happen. - girl working entry then asks me and my best friend if we wouldn't mind moving down the bar. For no reason. While we're waiting for the pizza that she and the bartender forgot to put in. The kicker: - got the bill for my half and half pizza. The large Brooklyn is $24, the large white is $18. Normally, you'd charge $24 for the higher priced pizza as part of a half. The bartender charged $18 for the white pizza AND EACH ADDITIONAL topping to make the Brooklyn. Taking my total over $33 for a normally $24 pizza. Really, Grimaldi's??? I love your pizza and rave about it to colleagues, friends, etc but this experience really left me with a bad taste in my mouth (no pun intended). read more

I am rating Grimaldi's at Waters Creek in Allen, TX a 1 out of 5 purely for the maitre d' that was working at 8:00 PM on Wednesday, July 8th, 2015. We arrived to a less than half-filled restaurant in the middle of the week with a party of 7. When we informed the maitre d' that we were a party of 7, we received a very dirty look and we're unceremoniously told that it would be a 45 minute to 1 hour wait even though we could plainly see several open tables. The maître d' didn't even bother to turn around to check the restaurant to see if something could be worked out. Now I understand that these tables could have been reserved but the maître d' entire attitude was extremely unsympathetic and created the impression in most of us that we were inconveniencing her. Her unprofessional demeanor and attitude was that we were a bother to her and, by extension, Grimaldi's. Normally I base my reviews on a variety of factors, but since this person was such an ass, I have nothing to rate Grimaldi's on but the incredibly poor attitude of this one individual. I understand that this is probably not a regular experience by most of Grimaldi's customers. read more

Though it's not cheap, you won't find better tasting authentic coal-oven cooked pizza in the area than Grimaldi's. After pretty extensive testing by ordering from various pizza locales, our 2 go-to pizza places are Grimaldi's and Crazy Tomato. Grimaldi's is the top choice but sometimes we want delivery and Crazy Tomato is better for that. Plus only Grimaldi's has seasonal cheesecakes. Anyway, the staff here is excellent, friendly, and remembers regulars. The only minor complaints you can ever make are that the parking is not adequate if you are picking up to go, and sometimes they're so busy that even if you order ahead, you might have to wait a bit for your pizza. So we went on a late Saturday afternoon and had to wait 45 mins for a 12" pizza. I requested the manager for a clean cut for our pizza (which means slicing our pizza with a clean slicer as we don't eat pork). She looked at me all confused and asked rudely, "WHAT?" I had to explain and request again what we wanted. A nice employee making the pizzas overheard our conversation and told me he understood what I'm saying. I walked back over to my table and glanced back to see the same manager staring angrily at me with narrowed eyes. The pizza was delicious and our waitress and the cook were super nice. The manager that afternoon on the other hand though really ruined my mood with her bad attitude and rude demeanor. I don't understand how people can be in the service industry with such bad customer service skills. I'm guessing Grimaldi's gets top Yelp ratings because Dallas is hungry for some new variation on the "same-old" pizza theme. I read all the raves and even heard from friends how great this place is for pizza, I got motivated (and admittedly excited) to try it out. I arrived at the Allen location (rather new) and we were instantly seated. The place is smallish in size, so they pack as many tables as they can in the place. My back was just inches from the back of the person seated behind me. It was a little cramped -- some might not mind, but I like to have a little elbow room when I have a meal. Not a biggie. The menu was pretty much pizza, simple salads, calzones, and drinks. Heavy on the pizza vibe -- I didn't see any other table with calzone. I split a large pizza order with my sister: half double cheese and red sauce, half onion and double red sauce. The neat option is the sauces - - they have a pesto option that smelled decent when one passed by the table. The large is pretty big. Their pizza is thinnish, not crunchy. The sauce, which there was very little of (maybe they forgot to double it) was very tomatoey. Sauce looked more like squished tomatoes than red sauce. The small salad could easily be split by two people and was made with romaine lettuce, which is a plus (iceberg is horrible for salads, IMO). Overall, the pizza was OK, but I wouldn't call it "very good" or "great" -- more like a bad version of what's served at Fireside Pies. My favorite pizza is made at "I Fratelli's," so you know my bias. You'll probably enjoy Grimaldi's if you don't build it up much in your head (like I did) and your should come hungry. I wouldn't object to going back, but I'm not motivated to seek out Grimaldi's again either. One last note: A large pizza, one soda, and small salad with tip came to $40.00. That's about $10 overpriced, IMO. read more

This is my new favorite pizza place! I moved to TX 3 years ago from NY. I am very picky about pizza. I have tried pizza here but nothing compares to what I am used to in NY. My sister and her husband tried Grimaldi's. They were super impressed. They told me about it so I made a point to try it out. It was back in January and it was cold! The place was packed and people were waiting outside. Fortunately my brother in law is an Allen cop and he went in earlier in the week to make a reservation for his son's christening. The owner said they do not take reservations but because he was an Allen Police Officer he would do it. We got there at about 6:15 with a party of 15. They got us a table in the back within 5 mins. We ordered the two tables the Grimaldi's House Salad. OMG it was so good! Then we all ordered some cheese pies and some with Italian sausage. The crust was so yummy. Very thin but still very tasty and crispy. The mozzarella was extremely fresh and full of flavor. ! I have now been there 3 times and went this past Saturday and brought two friends who had never been. They were sold. We might go back this weekend. =) read more

It's important to know that I rate the original Brooklyn Grimaldi's a 5-stay, no questions asked. This is only four, and it's only because I've tasted the original that this gets downgraded a star. The differences are: 1 - At the brooklyn one they put fresh basil leaves on the pies. They don't here (they put a few on in the center but they shrivel because they cook them) 2 - the pepperoni here is much thicker, hence oilier, and even saltier Finally, things you can get away with in NYC don't fly here. Charging $4 for sun dried tomatoes on any size pizza (even the personal) AND charging the same $4 even if you only get half the pizza with SDT doesn't work. essentially, if you wanted a half/half personal-sized pizza with three ingredients on each half (even at just $2/ingredient) you could end up with a $27 personal pizza. That's just wrong. The crust is amazing and so is the mozzarella (both are same as BKLN). they give the kids dough to play with before the food comes and that's welcome as well. all in all, best pizza i've tasted in dallas so far. darn i just wish it was exactly like the one in brooklyn. read more

I've been here a couple times now. First time 5 stars too-went in the evening, it was busy but service was great and food was excellent. We've been to the one in NYC too, so this has big shoes to fill. Second time around we had Crystal as a server. She was very efficient and did checks on us. Great server, only suggestion would be to smile. :) We asked for feedback on whether we needed a small or large salad. She suggested small, and she was spot on. Mediterranean salad came out quick and it was super good. Great portion for a small salad, even though the bowl seemed small. Crystal filled our waters consistently and often, and even offered to switch out our salad plates for fresh ones. I'm always impressed when servers offer to do this, especially in the mid price range places. However, our pizza took quite a while to come out this second time. We went on a Sat afternoon around 3pm, so while there were people there, our first time there was much busier and food came faster. However, we were sitting at the high top table right next to the oven so could see everything happening, and it wasn't b/c the pizza guys weren't working - they were busy. So maybe it was just busier than it felt. Crystal did notice this and in the same breath I asked her to check on it, it came out of the oven.That being said, when it did arrive, it was fantastic. Piping hot, dough was nice and chewy and crispy. If you are a deep dish fan, this is not the place, but if you love a solid thin crust pizza done to perfection, this is your place. I then ordered dessert to go (they make their desserts in house and had a seasonal pumpkin cheesecake - and I'm a sucker for a good cheesecake.) I asked for the whip cream and caramel on the side, and it was delivered in a to go bag, along with our leftovers quickly and as per instructions. Crystal handled the bill promptly. I ate the cheesecake (very generous portion) in 3 different sittings, but it was really good. A little more light and foamy than other pumpkin cheesecakes I've had, it was almost more mousse like than dense, but flavor was excellent. We had a hard time finding great NYC style pizza while living in the bay area, so LOVE that we found this place! read more

I'm originally from New York, and to find a place that serves authentic New York style pizza is rare. Ordered a house salad and medium pizza with meatballs. The crust when it arrived was very crispy and tasty. My favorite part of the pizza was the cheese. From looking at the guys making pizzas, it looked like they were using thin slices of mozzarella which had a great consistency melted. Meatball topping had great taste as well. I lived in Brooklyn for 5 years, so it's hard to be objective about this Grimaldi's. For Dallas, it's solid pizza, but it's not the same as the Brooklyn style. Get your pizza very well done. Ask for black, charred edges. They won't really cook it that way, they're cowards about well done pizza, but it will at least be much better. Good pies with a thin, crispy and chewy crust. Not much else to recommend. Skip the salads and antipastos, just get more pizza. Worst thing about this place is they stop taking take-out orders by phone between 7-9PM on weekends. Very stupid. You can still get take-out, but you have to sit there in the restaurant while they make your pizza. Apparently, they don't like selling too many pizzas at this restaurant. read more

OK, I'm another one that does NOT get the bad reviews. This is my husband and I's FAVORITE pizza place. I DO love Fireside Pies, but Grimaldi's is a place you could go every week, and Fireside Pies is way pricier and more for special occasions. First of all, the location in Allen is great. It overlooks the "stream" and park in Watters Creek where they have live music/bands during the warmer months. The outdoor patio seating is awesome in that respect (unless it's 112 degrees out). The inside is quite a bit smaller than the Dallas location. A cool thing too...they have an inside/outside bar. So, if you're strolling by, you can stop and sit and have a glass of wine and a slice. I've never done that, but it looks like a fabulous idea. The pizza is AWESOME. I love the taste of the crust (chewy on the inside, crispy out), love the SAUCE, and I love how they put real mozzarella on top (like nice chunks of mozzarella). And I love the real basil in the middle. We ALWAYS get the same thing. Large cheese pizza, small Caesar salad (feeds 2 EASILY) and sometimes we'll get the Tiramisu for dessert (TO DIE FOR). Our bill normally tops out around $30 for the 2 of us. $16 for a large 18" cheese pizza...how is that overpriced??? And the caesar salad is excellent. We have told all of our friends about it and now it's THEIR favorite pizza place too... I honestly can't understand ppl that say it's *ok*--AGH! BLASPHEMY!!! read more

Grimaldi's is a victim of their own success. First off, the pizza is amazing. It is easily the best pizza in DFW. Problem is, they are now a victim of their own success. The service here has lately been sub-par. Drink refills take forever, for instance. One Saturday night, I was shoehorned into a tiny table by the bar. The bar was so crowded that people waiting for drinks were crowded into my table. When I asked if anything could be done, the host replied, "No, that's what you get for coming in on a Saturday." I have been craving a good pizza for a week or 2. I feel much better after eating at Grimaldi's with my lovely wife. We ordered a small margherita pizza (tomatoes, basil and mozzerella) and added meatballs to it. The crust was thin and crispy and they put the basil on after it came out of the oven so that it was fresh. The only complaint that I have is that our waiter, Eric, forgot that I ordered a beer, so it took about 10 minutes for another waiter to bring it over.
