First time here, decided to give it a try because they have some vegetarian options. Got there around 6pm on Friday evening. We were seated right away because most folks wanted to sit outside. It was packed. It was loud. We couldn't really have much of a conversation, just shouting. It really is more like a bar than a restaurant. Our waitress tried but she was overwhelmed and said as much. We finally got some water and chips with salsa. We later ordered when our waitress returned. When we got our food it was after 7pm. It was okay. The nachos were served as six individual whole chip bites rather than the usual piles of covered chips. The rest of the food was a bit underwhelming. EAT HERE! This family-owned small local business is 100% worth supporting. Great food, great service, and it's COVID friendly: there are heaters, outdoor seating, and seating within a tent. Even in 19 degree weather, we still had a fantastic meal here. The stars of the night were definitely the al pastor tacos and elote. However, the lengua, shrimp, carnitas, and birria tacos were all super delicious as well. The shrimp taco has a really tasty filling that I was crazy about. We also ordered the chicken and avocado soup and the honey habanero wings, both of which were very tasty. Our waiter was kind and attentive, made good recommendations, and helped accommodate us by moving the heaters around for maximum warmth (we ate outside, not in the tent). All the tables in the tent were spaced out at least 6 feet apart and we were very far from everyone else. The whole staff wore masks and gloves. Being the creature of habit that I am and have mentioned in other reviews, we came here today to experience a different restaurant. Since I love Mexican food, I thought to myself....'"how can we go wrong? I'll start by saying that I really like the location. I know this area pretty well, but this was an unexpected find. In addition to the location, location, location, I also like the mixed use design of the community. Though it is a suburban area, the set up has somewhat of an urban feel minus the hustle and bustle. When we drove up, the first thing I noticed is that the place was packed. As far as I could see, every table was occupied. If my love of Mexican food was about to be combined with the number of people who occupied the outdoor seating and bar area, I knew my palate was in for a special treat. One really great feature of this area is that they have ample free parking for the first two hours. The signage indicated that it was $3.00 and up for anything over two hours, however, I am uncertain if that includes weekends. Everything is clearly labeled, so there should be no ambiguity about where to park or which direction will get you to the elevator needed to get to the main floor. We walked to the location and noticed some other restaurants in the area. We waited for a brief period before being assisted, as there was another group in front of us. The lovely weather made us feel like a little outdoor dining and since the sun had gone down somewhat, it was perfect. We already knew what we were ordering before we arrived, but I looked at the menu anyway. Other than what we ordered, shrimp fajitas would have been the only other menu item that I would have selected. Nevertheless, we went with the shrimp tacos and tomato rice. Our drink selection was the wild strawberry margarita. The waitress came over to take our order and indicated that some chips and salsa would be brought over soon. The appearance of the salsa and chips was different in terms of flavor. It was not the run-of-the-mill salsa with the visibly diced pieces of tomato, onion and peppers. Tomato was a large component of the salsa, but the tomato was more so mashed with a large amount of black pepper and possibly some onion added. The taste was pretty good. The chips looked and tasted more like store bought pita chips. Had it not been for the salsa, I am not sure if I would have liked the chips without an accompaniment. When our food arrived, it was delivered to the adjacent table. The table arrangement was a little too close. The waiter placed our rice on the table and proceeded to place the tacos there as well. The couple at the other table looked baffled and in an effort not to appear upset, I nicely said those items belong over here. The couple backed away from the food, as the waiter brought the items to our table in an apologetic manner. As long as no one touched the food, I was okay. I looked at the food and thought....is this it? There were two small tacos already dressed with two small shrimp, a dab of guacamole and a bit of salsa. The rice was well cooked, but bland. There was mild hint of tomato flavor and absolutely no salt. Perhaps, adding salt to the water could compensate for not adding it once cooked. It was just blah in my opinion. I am so disappointed. I went here about two weeks ago and had the best server and the best experience. I tried the chicken avocado soup which was so yummy I thanked my server 3 times for suggesting. Today I ordered the same but on Uber eats. The color was much lighter but I didn't think much of it. I tasted it and it's literally water. Like the kind of boiled chicken and rice you make for your sick dog. Whomever thought to serve that was wrong, if it was out then I'd rather them not serve it to me. But to add water yo broth, and put this unseasoned food in a bowl for delivery was absurd. We love gringos in my house so we'll be back but whomever made this surely needs to be spoken to. Some days, the duck is more bland and greasy than others. When doing take out, they don't always pack it up well so things get mushed together and super soggy from all the liquids in the meat. Dining in - the food is typically much better and more consistent for the most part. Service when dining in has been excellent. Take out, not so much. The restaurant is nice and cozy. A spontaneous Happy Hour visit with my coworkers on a Friday night! We arrived around 5:30 PM and it was totally packed. Luckily, we got a table for our party of 7. After we got seated, we ordered some Cocktails, Margaritas and Sodas. Then we ordered some Quesadillas, Meatballs and Tacos as our entrees. The Meatballs were OK except for the sauce. That tasted pretty weird. Was expecting more of a Marina sauce than some odd tasting brown gravy-like flavor... For dessert, we ordered 3 Tres Leches! For some reason, the food items weren't as tasty as the first 2 visits. Don't know why... They were still good, but taste was somewhat different compared to the past visits, especially the Tres Leches. Felt like something was missing since I usually really like it. Food and service-wise, we really enjoyed ourselves... However, when it came to paying for the bill, that is when things got a bit difficult and annoying. We wanted to split up the check evenly amongst the 7 of us for the total of $183.00. So, we simply asked the waiter to charge 1 person's card twice, and the rest evenly among the rest of us. But, when we got the individual checks, one person's card got charged $60 twice! While 5 others got charged $30 each and 1 person didn't get charged at all. How's that come out to the total of $183?!? Isn't that way over??? That is when we had to reach out to the Manager to clarify everything. Not sure what happened to the waiter when we simply requested the checks to be evenly distributed... Don't know how the calculations got so very messed up. Swung by after a trip to Glenstone on a Sunday afternoon. The place was nearly empty inside, most people were sitting outside. The indoor seating was absolutely freezing, so we get why there was more outdoor seating. They started us off with two dishes of salsa and chips, one for every two people, which was nice so we all weren't fighting for them. I ordered two different types of tacos: two chicken and two carnitas. I liked the carnitas tacos more than the chicken. My mother and sister ordered the shrimp honey tacos and really liked them, while my father ordered chicken fajitas. The portion of the fajitas was massive. All in all, I thought it was okay. My family liked their dishes and gave it higher praise than I did, but I did leave the place stuffed. I didn't finish one of the tacos and took it home; four tacos was more than enough for me. There's outdoor seating, though a bit questionable if it's really 6 ft apart from each other since so many patrons came that day to eat out. This review is solely for take out and even with the take out, the food was amazing. We ordered the Al Pastor and duck tacos along with an entree of Carne Asada. The tacos come with 2 orders and they were amazing! Al Pastor had the crispy pork and pineapple that complimented it well. The duck tacos were different than the norm and I'm glad they offer this. Every bite was savory. The entree of Carne Asada was cooked perfectly, tender and they offer it with their green rice. I personally prefer a different type of rice, but it was delicious nonetheless. Ordering for pick up was easy. They take online orders, their third party apps, and in person orders. Everyone was friendly. I would definitely order from here again! read more

I got the duck tacos, but I would recommend the duck nachos instead. If you are kind of hungry, the nachos can be a good meal for you. I got three duck tacos. They were good and you can pick what kind of tortilla you want it all wrapped in. You can get corn tortilla, a regular tortilla, or lettuce. I got the red wine sangria, which was good and I would recommend if you are trying to get drinks. The place was kind of loud. There were a lot of people at the bar drinking, so if you are looking for a quiet place the eat, then this might not be the best place. Great addition to the Park Potomac area! The fam went here on a Sunday around brunch time. We were seated promptly, though the table we got was a little lopsided (we were a party of 4, and it was 2 tables of 2 together, but one table was a bit slanted). We were given the free salsa and chips (if you want more, it's extra), and it was enough chips for our table. The chips tasted very fresh; they were a bit on the thicker side, very crunchy, and held the salsa well. Since this Gringos & Mariachis is rather new, they didn't have a full brunch menu. They had a few $5 drinks, and some omelettes on that menu, so we just ordered from the regular one. We got the following - Chicken Quesadillas - we got these for the kids. They don't enjoy spicy food so we were able to get them a "kids version," which isn't spicy. They both seemed to enjoyed it. It was cheesy enough. Chicken Sopes - little thick-tortilla disks with beans, chicken, sauce, etc. The husband really liked these. These were good - a variety of texture and flavor. There was a good amount of chicken on them as well. I placed some of the free salsa on mine to make it a bit moister as some of the chicken was a little dry, but the salsa and the sauces went very well with the sopes. Fries - fresh, thickly cut, with the skins and all. Yum! Al Pastor tacos - the tacos come with 2, and you can pay $2 for a third taco. No substitutions, the tacos must be the same. We went for the third, and I really liked these al pastor tacos. They aren't as flavorful as some others I have, but I did like the single tortilla and there was enough meat/toppings on it. Good amount of pineapple with the pork as well. Asada tacos - we went for a third on the asada tacos as well. The steak looked soooo good - nice juicy pink centers, etc. The flavor was a bit disappointing though. Bland, but not terrible. I'd definitely come back here and try some of their other menu items. I had high hopes for this place but was let down in many ways. The service was not good at all. The waiter said one word to us and never came back. We did most of our interactions with the bus boys which was an unusual experience. As far as the food, we ordered the beef fajitas and the Birria burrito (has short ribs). I thought the meat was chewy and not flavorful in both dishes. The corn that came with the burrito had way more appeal than the burrito itself. The whole time I kept thinking we should have gone to Taco Bell because at least you know what to expect. I did not try their tacos so maybe that is their highlight. That being said it was insanely loud and we had to yell across the table to hear each other. It's a small space with a lot of tables packed together and music being piped in so that could account for all the noise. The prices were decent for the food, but I found my Birria tacos to be surprisingly bland. Honestly a more bold me would have sent them back. I came here on a Friday night with friends for an early Cinco de Mayo celebration ;) We expected it to be super packed, surprisingly the wait was only 40 minutes for a Friday night. We went to the bar to grab some drinks while we waited. I ordered the Lychee Margarita which comes with Silver Blue Agave Tequila, Orange Liqueur, Lychee Puree and Lime Agave. I love sweet mixed drinks, so you will like this drink if you have a sweet tooth like I do :) Once we were seated, we were brought water and menus. I ordered three Birria, which comes with slow cooked short rib, avocado, onions and cilantro. The tacos were really tasty, I liked the short rib... very flavorful and soft. I hate short ribs that are super chewy and tough. The avocado was really creamy and well spread throughout the taco. Although I was pleased with my meal, I was disappointed with how my order was brought to me. The plate was hot and the staff handed it directly to me without warning me, I almost dropped the plate. Staff really should bring the hot plates straight to guests or at least WARN me -_- Parking can be a hassle, the parking lot is shared with multiple retailers... so factor in some time to find parking during peak times. Overall I did enjoy Gringos & Mariachis, the inside decor is unique, it is great for groups and the food is tasty. However, I could not get past the poor method the staff used to bring me my order. Hot plate straight to my hands... nope! Hopefully staff are more cautious in the future, I am on the fence with whether or not I would come back here. My boyfriend and I came here for happy hour around 6pm on Tuesday. To our surprise (and luck), we found parking outside. Garage parking is free for up to two hours. Since it was a nice afternoon/evening, we opted to sit outside on the patio and people watch. A waiter came by shortly and we ordered our drinks. I ordered a red sangria, while my boyfriend ordered a house margarita. I liked that the red sangria came with a ton of fruit in it. After bringing our drinks, the waiter asked if we were ready to order, we kindly asked him to give us a minute to look over the menu. A minute passed...5 minutes passed...10 minutes passed...15 minutes...he walked by us at least 4 times until I dramatically (yes, dramatically) turned around to make eye contact with him hinting that we were ready. He finally came over and took our orders. We ordered 2 carnitas and 2 al pastor tacos. Note: if you mix and match (i.e., 1 carnitas and 1 al pastor taco), they won't honor the happy hour price. Full disclosure: after living in LA for a couple years, I'm convinced that SoCal has the best tacos in the U.S. and it's consistently good throughout. Thus, I had pretty high expectations after reading the reviews. My conclusion? Eh, it was good, but not mind-blowing great. At least it wasn't disappointing. I was happy that the chips and the taco were both gluten free. For $3 a taco, it's decent, but the price tag is a tad steep for the small taco you get. Between the two, I like the al pastor taco better because of the roasted pineapple that brought out more of the flavor. Both al pastor and carnitas were seasoned well and flavorful. Overall, this is a nice spot for a date or happy hour. There is plenty of seating indoors and outdoors, but I would suggest sitting outside on the patio when the weather is nice. I've gone here at LEAST a dozen times for brunch, after work happy hour, and Taco Tuesdays. Realized I never reviewed! So here's my take on Gringos: Atmosphere: The Park Potomac shopping center is typically packed, so parking can be a struggle at times. But the lower level of the garage is always a safe bet if you're in a hurry and don't want to wait. Inside the restaurant is typically very dimly lit, with eye catching wall art and intimate seating arrangements. Sometimes if the room is packed, seating can be tight. The place can also get pretty loud during happy hour. But it's expected at such a popular place. Service: Every time I've gone here, the service has been good. The waiters/waitresses have been consistently nice and polite. When it gets busy, the servers might not be super attentive, or might take awhile bringing out the check. But that's also expected. Food: Some of the best tacos in this area! Come for Taco Tuesday, you won't be disappointed. The tacos are not on the smaller side like some of the other taco joints in the area. And the meats are just as smoky and dripping with flavor. The elote is bomb here too. Zesty and definitely a good deal when you get the happy hour order, which includes two for the price of one. The drinks are always good. I like the sangrias the best. The margaritas can be hit or miss depending on what flavor you get. But I'm a devoted regular of Gringos regardless! read more

The al pastor tacos were flavorless, and the shrimp tacos had a corn shell that was stale and difficult to eat. I've been wanting to go to Gringos & Mariachis for quite some time now. I don't know why I put it off for so long - I've been missing out! The ambiance of the restaurant is nice and seating is plenty. Our server was very attentive, friendly, and accommodating. The other servers worked well as a team together too (even though it was quite busy). Someone was always coming to check up on us - to make sure our water was filled and if we needed anything. We both ordered the brirria quesadillas and it was so good, I ordered another one to-go! My husband loved the duck tacos, too. The only thing was parking can be quite hard to find, especially during busy hours. Not quite the fault of the business or their service though, but thought would be helpful to mention. From the graffiti artwork to the cute glass water canteens, this place creates a great atmosphere and serves tantalizing food. The tacos al Pastor melted in my mouth and the elote (Mexican street corn) was straight from heaven. To top it off, our server Mike sparked great conversation. Always wanted to try It here and last night was our first visit. Probably the last. Chips and guacamole was fine. Drinks meh. Too small for the price fora pretty drink. What bummed me were the fajitas. You Can judge a good a place on how well they are made and these were so so. Meat was ok and plentiful but it was tons of peppers that were barely cooked and just a few onions. I want my plate with the veggies all caramelized and soft with great juices to dip the tortillas in. Too many other really good places to go to before I head back here. read more
