I am a believer! This place pinged every Yelp sensory. The rooster out front generates curiosity to the average passerby but if you are hungry it's even more enticing. Seeing lots of people sitting out under the pavilion (even in 90 degree weather) helped me realize the food must be good! The front porch was accommodating to the ones who were waiting to be seated. The hostess on the front porch asked how many were in our party, and then took us inside to seat us. Entering inside reminded me of my great grandparents home, quaintness and community all wrapped into one room filled with tables filled by family and friends enjoying a meal together. The menu was not overwhelming and it did not take long to get a visual of the items as they passed by to other surrounding tables. The servers were friendly and offered all kinds of good advice for the guests. The food was amazing-good wholesome stuff. You would think your grandma was in the kitchen cooking because it is fresh and includes good deep flavors. The stuffed french toast was 2 slices of butter enriched Texas toast with a large serving of strawberries and cream cheese filling squished in the middle. The palmetto burger had just as pimento cheese as it did burger. With layers of crisp lettuce and a slice of tomato, get your mouth ready! The Orleans po-boy was huge- lots of shrimp goodness on a sub roll...another large serving....so come hungry. To finish it off we shared the pecan pie paired with their buttermilk lemon ice cream (yes you read that right).....delicious!!!!! We will be back and remember the cash next time . Another trip today and another great meal, today we did breakfast and boy was it amazing-Will's smothered sausage and potatoes was a deep bowl of goodness, the monte cristo was delicious but after eating a ham ball and a Apple fritter allowed me to only eat half of the sandwich so I have leftovers for later. We were disappointed the tomato pie was sold out, but the reason is that the food here is outstanding and especially the tomato pie. So that means another trip down from Greenville. It's about 50 minutes to get here. Since there was no tomato pie appetizer, I felt calorie justified to up my lunch game to the fried chicken and mashed potatoes with corn. And that was finger lickin good, for sure. It's like eating in an old corner country store, because that's what it exactly is, with an additional large outdoor seating area. We had the country ham balls, and they were killer good. My sister said that she got a taste of country ham in hers, but I did not see/taste any in mine. Nevertheless, they were very good. I got the catfish sandwich, and it was yummy. She got the shrimp and grits and said it was excellent. We shared an order of fries, hand cut and delicious. I love the setting...welcoming and friendly. This is a quint out of the way restaurant. They only do dinner on Thursday nights. My party started with Praline Pecan bacon. I will say it is almost too much pecan on it. But it is heavenly bacon candy. Out of the party of 5, 3 of us ordered the meat loaf and everyone said it is the bomb. I got the brisket and grits and one other got the shrimp and grits. The brisket was one thick cut with BBQ sauce slathered on it. The grits were just ok. They were congealed and not hot. The portions are huge and everyone was full to the max. Service was great too. Everyone in the party also ordered dessert and we were so full took them to go. They were all good. The carrot cake is very different than what im used to but overall tasty. This was a quaint and cute establishment. Not something you would expect to find literally in the middle of nowhere. The waitstaff was extremely friendly. We received menus right away and ordered drinks. The food came out rather quickly, which was a pleasant surprise. We ordered the fried pickles. They were delicious, made to order and flavorful. 5 out if 5! My husband ordered a burger and I a chicken sandwich. Both the sandwiches themselves were great! Nice breading on the chicken and a juicy, flavorful burger. When it came to the fries, unfortunately it was rather disappointing. We were excited by fresh, "hand cut" fries but they were both limp and cold. They were not truly cooked fresh to order, or died in the pass waiting to be plated. We also ordered dessert. They have a wide variety of unique items. We ordered the banana bread pudding on recommendation and a hand pie with ice cream. Both were ok, nothing that knocked it out of the ballpark, just alright. Both were overpriced at $6.00 each and an addition $2.00 for the ice cream. The dessert section of the menu did not have prices, so it was rather a surprise. DEE-LISH-OUS!!! Fantastic food, really nice owners (were there, working the door and kitchen!), and laid back neighborhood place feel. The spot has very welcoming indoor and outdoor seating areas. We wanted to try all the starters but settled on the tomato pie and praline bacon, before adding the ham balls for dessert, after sharing the quacker club and banana foster waffle. We're already planning our selections for the next visit. The smooth cheesy topped tomato pie filling was savory and toothy. The tomatoes, pie crust, and topping were all recognizable and served piping hot. Great dish! The praline bacon was good and exactly as described. Sweet, crunchy, bacon. What's not to love? The duck pastrami sandwich was ridiculously tasty! The melted havarti cheese draped over a generous portion of what appeared to be hand sliced (because of the inconsistent thickness and shape) duck pastrami. The meat tasted pastramied (real word?, but you get it) and was slightly spicy. The marbled rye, onion, and tomato round out this fantastic sandwich. The side of salt and peppered fries were disappointing. Way greasy and limp, not twice fried. Deep fried country ham balls over homemade pepper jelly sauce? Yes please!! Crunchy on the outside, smooth and savory on the inside, with a spicy sweet sauce. The massive complimentary flavor and texture battle in your mouth will make you happy. We sat at the counter and had a complete view of the kitchen. It was great to watch the flow and interactions of the chef-owner and kitchen staff. My husband and I heard about this place almost as soon as we settled down in Anderson a year ago. Today was his first visit and my second, and it was not disappointing. We ended up sharing a large 7 seater table with another small group, but it was above 90 degrees and we were not about to sit outside! We started with the ham balls and pepper jelly because we'd heard great things, and they were insanely delicious! I'm mildly obsessed with pepper jelly, and it did not disappoint. So disappointed-This place used to be so good. My family and I have been coming for brunch here for years and were always impressed. There is always a crowd and a wait but the food used to be worth it. We went for dinner tonight and waited for a table. The service was terrible/rude and the food was either lackluster or good but cold-lukewarm at best. 4 out of 5 of our meals were brought to our table barely warm. I have never done this before but I was the only one at our table who was confident enough to send my meal back to be warmed. They returned my exact meal reheated-reheated so hot that it felt like they were making a statement sending it back burning hot. The tables around us were also lacking things like water in their cups/silverware. All of our water cups remained empty for the majority of our meal. Unfortunately we will never come back and cannot recommend this restaurant any longer. Meal specifics: -country ham balls-fine -praline bacon-fine -fried grits and tomato gravy- fine -the shrimp in the Po Boy tasted very freezer burnt. Did not taste fresh at all. Served cold -shrimp and grits were also not fresh and served cold -the catfish and grits were also served cold -the burger was hot along with the fried-good overall -the chicken tchoupitoulas was served cold: this was the most expensive menu item of the night so this was what I had sent back...again I have NEVER sent anything back to the kitchen before. I would have never sent it back unless I truly thought I could not enjoy the meal the way it was... our main server never apologized for the meal. I am not a rude customer and am always accommodating. My exact words " I feel so bad and have never done this before but my meal is cold" and the server said "we want you to enjoy it-we will heat it" and then walked away without taking the dish. She came back 5 minutes later to grab my plate to reheat. We tried waiting to order dessert but the service was so terrible we gave up after a while of waiting. We were hoping the dessert would be the saving grace of the meal but no luck. The server was unfriendly and unapologetic. I am very understanding if servers or restaurants apologize for either understaffing or mistakes. So sad overall. read more

Primarily known for breakfast Tues-Sat., they do dinners Thursday night only, and brunch on Saturday. Belton address, but out in the country enough to use your GPS. Tomato Pie appetizer and the NY Strip "from our own cow" with smashed potatoes and vegetables were both quite good, desserts are homemade, so save room. Beer and wine only, but they make an interesting Bloody Mary with Sake. Generous portions meant we came home with leftovers, house pickles and a cookbook. Note: cash or check only. After hearing of Grits and Groceries from my father-in-law for a while now I finally had the pleasure to try for myself. We drove over for Saturday brunch and arrived around 11:00 am. After a short wait, we were asked if we minded sitting with others as there were 2 of us as well as them. No problem. After all, enjoying good food with perfect strangers could only add to the experience. And what an experience! On this venture we enjoyed She Crab soup, praline bacon, and tomato pie for appetizer, followed by the entree of grits, eggs, fried chicken breast, and a biscuit. Desert we enjoyed chocolate Coca-Cola cake. To truly describe the food would involve a string of adjectives, so I'll just leave it at amazing. The atmosphere is unique, the staff is excellent, and the price is reasonable for what you are privileged to. Bring cash as credit is not accepted. As mentioned above, you may be asked to join another party due to limited space and the demand. In this instance, we enjoyed the additional company. And no matter how full you may be, get desert. None in particular, just close your eyes and point! One thing is for sure, if I lived anywhere close to this gem I would undoubtedly gain many pounds and be lighter in the wallet...but I would love every minute of it! I am glad I made it out here before I left SC. G&G is definitely a local institution, and it was packed out the patio when I showed up at 11:30AM on a Saturday. I was seated on the communal picnic table in the front, and I really enjoyed chatting with my fellow Southern travelers. Also, service is quick and attentive I sat down and got to checking out the offerings. The menu is fairly straight forward, but there is certainly something to satisfy everyone. Prices are a little steeper than most country diners, but they take care with the products they put out. The famous tomato pie was pretty awesome. It was a bit soggier than I would have liked, but the cheese flavor was perfect with the fresh slices of tomato in the middle. The crust was also buttery as a biscuit, but still a bit crisp. It was my introduction to Southern tomato pie, and it was solid. My shrimp and grits was definitely different than expected. The grits were runny and swimming in a soup-like gravy, and there was not a touch of cheese in the dish. The shrimp were nice and plump, and there was plenty of country ham to go around. The best part was the gravy itself: rich and savory. This will soon be on a TV food show, and the line will be never ending everyday up to closing time, so I would go SOON and check this local joint out. Came for the Saturday brunch. Upon arriving we were asked to sit at the outdoor pic-nick table. We politely declined and the hostess told us that it would be a long wait. We were fine with this as long as we were able to sit inside. 20 minutes or so passed and she told us we would be sitting in the outdoor section. We again kindly declined and she told us that no more indoor seating would open. So we decided to buckle down and eat outside. After we sat down, the entire meal we repeatedly saw families walking inside to dine, with no problem. Not sure why this happened the way it did, but the food was expensive and not exactly the best breakfast food I have ever tasted. There were also lots of wasps flying around the outdoor area while we are. This combined with the smell of the accompanying barn next to the restaurant made for an all around unpleasant dining experience. While I am pretty sure I'm bias on my shrimp and grits, living on the Gulf coast of MS and Louisiana so I know it's not really fair of me to judge these shrimp and grits. But with that said, they were OK. I wasn't thrilled with them but I'm sure it's just because I'm expecting something totally different from a different area. The ham gravy was a bit to watery for my liking which in turned made the grits underneath it all into a soup. My fiance ordered the Eggs Elizabeth ($10.50) French bread slats, topped with ham, poached eggs and hollandaise sauce. We were invited by friends to join them on a day trip motorcycle ride which also included breakfast at this restaurant. YUM is all I can say! There were 6 of us and we were immediately seated inside. The ambiance is great! The service was great.....they took our order immediately and our food was brought to the table piping hot and fresh. We loved all of the "out of the ordinary" choices, along with traditional breakfast choices. The Praline Bacon is very tasty.....it's a must have.
