TOO EXPENSIVE I stopped in recently and ordered the Monte Crisco. While eating, the waitress asked if I wanted more tomato jam, so I said yes because I figured I may want more. The waitress did not mention there would be a charge for more tomato jam, which came in a tiny continent container. When I got the bill, I was shocked to see an $8 charge for the condiment; a condiment I did not ask for. No transparency for additional condiments. One of the many reasons I dislike eating at restaurants in Abbeville is because they are not chains, so the restaurants are extremely overpriced. To the owner: Thank you for your comment. I did in fact bring the attention to the waitress as well as the cashier. Both told me that was the correct amount for a side condiment of tomato jam. read more

I've seen pictures of the food here on social media and finally decided to meet some friends here for dinner. I like the ambiance of the restaurant. For starters we shared the soul rolls which and and spinach and artichoke dip. The soul rolls which are stuffed with collards and black eye peas were flavorful. The spinach and artichoke dip was quite bland. Force entree got the shrimp and grits. It was delicious. The goat cheese in the Cajun grits were a great addition. The gator I tried had good flavor as well. For dessert we split the pecan bread pudding. It definitely was a nice finishing touch to a great meal. I would definitely return. Hello yelpers....talk about a true rock star location with awesome ambiance and world class staff. Our server Gina made the experience. Had high hopes . But more misses than hits. Server was super sweet and friendly. Started with fried green tomatoe- tomatoes were very tough, but sauce was good. My companion ordered the black eye pea gumbo- very salty and shrimp were a bit past the good date. I tried the fried monte christo sandwhich- just not good (doughy and oily). Well, I read reviews on other sites and this one so tried the place today with my two sisters. Simply put: we were not positively impressed in any way. No "diamond in the rough today"! I was a waitress for six years (thru college) in several good restaurants in the San Francisco Bay Area so do know good food and proper restaurant cleanliness. 1. Our server was nice, but slow (we were one of two active tables at the time) and had the longest fingernails I have ever seen for a server. Also, they were embellished will sequins and bits of plastic etc that, I'm sure, do not take well to frequent soap and water. She also had trouble with handling plates without breaking her nails. 2. The women's rest room-the toilet and sink were OK but the area was dirty and dusty. Also, the toilet was haphazardly separated from a utility sink by a small divider so one easily could see the cleaning area. 3, Food-what a disappointment! My sisters ordered Croque Monsieur and received undercooked and, therefore, soggy sandwiches. The meat inside was literally paper thin and actually missing in some of areas of the sandwiches. I ordered a BBQ Pork sandwich and received a supermarket bun, two pickles, basic pulled pork, and a generic tasting BBQ sauce squirted on top. Considering we were the only active food prep order at the time, the three sandwiches took a long time to prepare. So, again a disappointing visit and one we will not repeat. read more

The food is a bit pricey for the quality. Have been twice with small Family groups of no more than 4-6 People. Tried the Special and a Grilled Chicken Sandwich, which was the special the 2nd time as well. I found the food a bit greasy for my taste. Also, the Sautéed Green Beans(Lunch Special Veggie) soggy to be a sautéed vegetable! Others around the table tried Burgers, also other items and without me mentioning it found the food greasy and veggies soggy. I plan to try it again next week with friends, hopefully they have grown a bit in quality of food as they settled in. We did find the Restaurant extremely clean, the hostess and waitstaff extremely courteous and helpful, as well as attentive. Hoping the chef has worked through the startup and the food has improved to the level of what the Restaurant could be with the location, parking and excellent Staff! I mentioned pricey, what I meant by that is cost vs value of meal. I do not mind paying a top price for the meal, when the taste is worth the cost. Had a grilled Chicken Sandwich with Sautéed Green Beans, was a bit over $15 plus the Drink. A grilled Chicken Breast shouldn't be greasy, or served on a greasy buttered toasted bun, and sautéed green beans should not be greasy and soggy. They should be crisp, and fresh. Perhaps, Customers, when ordering this, should ask them to hold the butter, olive or Wesson oil, as an option. Just my opinion as well as that of family and friends who were with me! The gathering around the table is such a wonderful moment of connecting with friends and family. It is not just a meal, it is an experience. Unfortunately, I struggle with food allergies and it is a very rare occurrence for me to get to enjoy dining out with friends. Indigenous underground came reccomend by a fellow Abbeville restaurant owner who swore up and down that the chef/owner could be trusted to prepare a wonderful meal for me without cross- contamination. I went ahead and booked our Board of Directors lunch at the restaurant and I am beyond impressed. I called ahead and they made certain that they had adequate seating and staff to serve our group. I felt like I was watching children at Christmas time as my board of directors searched through the menu to try the creative soul cuisine. Fellow restaurant patrons even started making recommendations on what we had to try! Before today we never heard of green tomato jam but now we need more of it in our lives! When the food came out it was warm and presented well. My favorite moment was when my guests started trying to split their plates with their neighbors so that they could sample it all! The staff was attentive, the food was delicious and the atmosphere was perfect! The most amazing part for me is that I was able to enjoy a lunch out with friends and feel included without the fear of getting sick from my food (remember I have allergies). My boyfriend and I attended brunch last week. I was sorely disappointed with the entire experience. When we arrived, we were promptly greeted but waited for about 10-15 minutes at the door. When approached, we were asked if we had a reservation, which we did not. Nothing else was mentioned at that time for a reservation, we were seated at a table near the window. After reviewing the menu, we ordered. My boyfriend inquired about adding an egg to his sandwich (clearly states you can on a burger) but he was told the "chef" was too strapped in the back to be bothered with it. We waited about 45 minutes for our food and when it arrived I received an order that was not even mine. When I stated, this is not what I ordered, it was almost of an inconvenience to them. Never received an apology, just excuses. My sandwich was mistakenly placed in a to go box. That's when it started with the sly comments about them not wanting to seat us because we didn't have a reservation. Also, more comments made about the kitchen staff being so stressed out. I was offered an appetizer of pimento cheese while I waited for my correct sandwich. Waited 10 minutes for the cold appetizer after it was offered and waited 20 more minutes for my sandwich to arrive. We were told our drinks and the appetizer would be comped, which I am very appreciative of. However, once the bill arrived our drinks were still on the bill and the incorrect order was on it as well, which was several more dollars than what I originally ordered. At that point, I was so frustrated. I was told my sandwich got placed in a to go box, but all along it was rang in the system incorrectly. Two very different items and the waiter even wrote it down. I just paid the bill and left. Don't get me wrong, the food was subpar good but the experience is what tops it. I don't want to listen to anyone complaining about their job, when I am a patron and contributing to your paycheck. Perhaps I will try it again. I suggest you make it clear that you need reservations to your customers instead of being passive aggressive about it. read more
