Meat and three... pick me, pick me! From the moment I cued up in line just before the door opened to when I paid the check, the customer was superb! There was a crowd building at about 10:45am in anticipation of the 11am opening. I braved the wind and stood with everyone else. I was seated just inside the door at a table for two and quickly ordered an unsweetened iced tea. After looking at the menu, I had to decide was three I would pick. It was not an easy decision! I settled on fried whole wings, mac and cheese, creamed corn and broccoli casserole. There was a piece of corn bread on the side as well. Next time, I will choose something other than the broccoli casserole... it wasn't a favorite. I truly enjoy a small business and this was a must return place. We try a different meat and 3 each Sunday and this weekend we drove out to Wilhelmina's. Granted it was a 25 minute drive and we passed many great places on the way. Not really busy and we were seated promptly. 5 minute wait for drink orders. After we ordered it was 30 minutes before we received our food. Like I said they were not busy. Maybe busy with to-go orders. The fried chicken was very good. Small breast and wing. A little too salty. I guess it was what some people called "seasoned". The hashbrown casserole was good and the collards came from a can. Best item was the chicken. After all was said and done the bill with tip was $41.00. Both of us had One meat and two vegetable meals with tea. Way too much for the food we received. If you live on this side of Anderson and this is all you have, its good. But we won't be back. Soul food made with soul. Very clean and friendly, small restaurant in a service station parking lot. Large portions all is seasoned perfectly. What an authentic gem. Quick, efficient service and the food is exceptional. Some of the best tasting Mac and cheese I've ever had. Small little place but they fit the tables in quite well. There is not much to the menu, but sometimes that exceeds the restaurants that want to be everything to everyone. I went with a co-worker, both of us on a business trip. We were looking for something fast but came upon Wilhelmina's and decided to try it out. The service was out of this world! I went there one time at lunch when they first opened and the food was just fair. I went back to give them a second chance since I figured they might have been having a bad day. I got meatloaf (tasted like wood chips) greenbeans (cold and stems all in them) and mashed potatoes (mainly watery and flavorless). A friend also went one day and said the only thing he could get past his lips was the chicken. He said that was pretty good but wouldn't be back if that's all they did well. I agree... I won't be back either. Good luck to them in their business. I ran one also, and it is hard out there sometimes. I realize this review was not timely, since I ate there close to a year ago. I have increased the number of stars from 1 to 3. I may decide to go back someday and do a re-review. I just saw all of these 5-star ratings and I thought that they were way too forgiving. This place was absolutely amazing . MY MY MY MY !! Was all I could say . The food was phenomenal. Probably some of the best soul food , that I've had in awhile . Sorry Grandma don't be upset but it's the truth . My plate was filled with food , you get the bang for your buck . The food was served hot and fresh . The customer service was a major plus , everyone was friendly and made you feel welcome . Today was my first visit. The fried chicken was crispy and very well seasoned! They gave 3 pieces dark meat which was a huge portion. The green beans were seasoned very simply and were very good. The brown gravy on the mashed potatoes and gravy was some of the best I've had. Last but not least the macaroni and cheese was homemade and was perfect! These are great folks and made me feel welcome on my first visit! Looking forward to paying them another visit soon. read more
