This is one of Raleigh's hidden gems. I'm just sorry I didn't get to experience this place when I loved ten minutes down the street. Now I live twenty minutes away and it's so worth the drive! Now having been a few times, I can honestly say you cannot go wrong with any item here be it muffin or cake or coffee. If you have to limit yourself to one item, the zucchini chocolate muffins are the absolute bomb. Free wifi and ample parking make this place a great stop for coffee during work (I work on the road) and to synchronize my notes. It's pretty small, so I imagine during peak times it can get very busy. I've been here twice now, each time hoping this would be a local diamond in the rough bakery. Unfortunately, in my humble opinion, it is not. While the cupcakes I purchased were a decent size and moderately tasty, there wasn't a large selection of flavors. The price for 1 cupcake is nearly $4.00, which I think is a bit much. While I really love the desserts from here, I was super disappointed in the mocha I just got. Bitter and burnt coffee. I'm not sure if anyone else had this experience and though I hate giving bad reviews, I do want to bring it to the owners attention. What can I say except groovy! Popped in for a cup of hot tea and a snack and was not disappointed. They had eight different teas from which to choose. I selected the organic Assam. While I was looking at the breakfast options the cashier mentioned that the cinnamon rolls were still hot. Couldn't resist. Let me tell you that role was stupid good. Although more of a bakery than a coffee shop the Groovy Duck does has a nice little place to sit and sip. I noted there were a couple of outlets accessible in case you need to power devices while enjoying a drink or a snack. No matter where you sit you will be able to see outside if that is your desire. I stopped by Groovy Duck Bakery to kill some time on a Tuesday evening. It's a cool place to lounge. It is a bit small though; not many people can enjoy the free wi-fi here at once. The latte I had was good and priced reasonably (unlike many coffee shops). I made the mistake of ordering a "day-old muffin" advertised for a large percentage off on the price. It tasted just like a good muffin would after it had been sitting out for awhile. It's not a lot to go on, but I feel comfortable awarding four stars since it was such a pleasant atmosphere with good prices on coffee. They had a lot of sweets I wanted to try, but I wasn't in the mood at the time. I'll definitely be back! read more

Even close to closing time, there were still several delectable awesomenesses to close out one crazy day. The cupcake frosting was very light and not too sweet. There was just enough of the soft, fluffy topping to complement each bite of the cupcake. The cake is very tasty. A lovely balance of moist, airy, and perfectly sized. It's like have a slice of cake. Each cupcake has a filling. I've been other places where the fillings overwhelmed the cake, but not the case here. There was just enough to add a little something, without being overpowering. We came here looking for a minor boost for the last leg of our whirlwind roadtrip back to Cleveland, Ohio. (I'm a reformed coffee addict, so I only do half-caf drinks every so often.) I accidentally didn't say half-caf, whoops! But the iced latte with a PINCH of hazelnut syrup was so on point, I can't even complain about the craziness that ensued in the car later. Seriously one of the best lattes I've had. If I could bring this place to Cleveland, I would. It was a 5 star place, but I can't really manage 5 stars because , though the coffee here was amazing, I couldn't get any beans for my husband, which was part of the goal for the morning, and the incredibly (almost painful) awkward service was so...strange. My family is a huge fan of their Napolean cake or as we call it Miloja. It is divine! We often order the whole pan as it is usually sold by the slice. They are very helpful as once I had to order it as Diabetic friendly as possible. read more

We bought a lemon cake for a family birthday, and everyone was extremely happy with the quality of the cake. The cake itself was light and moist. Had my husband's birthday cake made by Groovy Duck Bakery last year for his surprise birthday party and everyone absolutely loved it!! I ordered the "Cow Cake" with black and white marbling. They even put the chocolate ganache inside the cake as opposed to on top because of how I wanted it customized. Very fresh and moist cake. I wanted a hello kitty and a spiderman, I was quoted some pretty high prices for smaller cakes than what they quoted me here. I got a red velvet and a chocolate and OH MY GOD. The baked goods are amazing and I would give a couple of stars but I experienced the worse customer service ever and it apparent racism towards me. I walked into the bakery and the gentleman said nothing to me, not even to acknowledge my presence. He was working with a customer that was very indecisive so I decided to have a seat. She said she was confused and she cannot figure out what I want, so he asked "well would you like a coffee or a latte while you're deciding?" She said "yes, maybe that will help me decide" the gentleman didn't say I will be right with you or ask if he could help me at all at this point. But what made me come to the conclusion of his behavior was when a woman walked in and he saw her and acknowledged her presences with a welcome and "I will be right with you!" She was an Caucasian woman. When I looked around realized the way these two woman were treated and he had yet to say anything to me but ask the new woman what she was interested in, I decided to leave with grace. The gentleman said "thanks have a nice day!" I will never go back and I will take my business else where. Best Bakery in Raleigh!!! I have tasted quite a few of their muffins and they all were moist and delicious! My favorite so far is the Maple Walnut. But the Strawberries and Cream, Just Chocolate Chip, Lemon Poppy Seed,Peaches and Cream, Banana Nut, Tropical Carrot and the Amish Friendship muffins were also very tasty. The bakery offers all muffins more then a day old at 50% off( check the lower case in the shelf) and these muffins are still fresh and yummy! Tried the cinnamon rolls and they were delightful too. For my birthday someone bought me a whole cherry topped cheesecake which was eaten up in 3 days. It was so creamy and light and had had a delightful flavor. For my Dads birthday, I decided to order one of their custom cakes. After reading the reviews on their cakes, I decided to order the Cow Cake which is a marble cake filled with chocolate and vanilla pudding and iced with whip cream icing on the sides and chocolate ganache on the top. I served the cake to 7 people who all declared it was " the best cake they had ever eaten". Everyone went back for second pieces and some people had even third pieces of cake. I would definately order the cake again and again,lol! Also want to try the Chocolate cake with mousse filling and the Banana split cake. I tried the famous yellow duck cookie which is perfect for kids. Its a very mild flavored cookie with lots of icing. The only down side to this bakery is the location. Its a litte hard to find as it is in the back of the shopping center. I am hoping the location does not prevent this bakery from being successful.
